Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Yuzvendra Chahal is making heads turn with his good performances for his new franchise in IPL 2022 edition, however, the wrist spinner has recently been in the headlines for a shocking revelation.

During his Mumbai Indians' (MI) days, Yuzi Chahal had gone through a horrific incident in IPL 2013. He revealed the details in a video shared by RR's official Twitter handle, where he mentioned how he was hung from a balcony by a drunk player. In an interaction with R Ashwin and Karun Nair, where the trio were talking about some past challenges, where Chahal said, "I never told this story, from today everyone will know. I never shared this. This dates back to 2013 when I was with Mumbai Indians we had a match in Bangalore. There was a get-together after that. So, there was a player who was very drunk, I won’t say his name. He was very drunk, he was looking at me for a long time and he just called me and he took me outside and he hung me on the balcony."

'Drunk MI player dangled me off a 15th floor balcony': Yuzvendra Chahal shares shocking experience

Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with the high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 14 of the IPL 2022 edition, at the MCA Stadium, Pune. In a bid to win their first game of the season, MI had their back against the wall after being asked to bat first.

At 55-3 in 11 overs, MI were in a spot of bother before Suryakumar Yadav's 36-ball 52, Tilak Verma's 38* and Kieron Pollard's 5-ball 22* propelled MI to 161-4 in 20 overs. KKR, in reply, were 67 for 3 at the halfway mark before Pat Cummins -- playing his first match of the season -- smacked a mouth-watering 15-ball 56* whereas opener Venkatesh Iyer held one end to return with an unbeaten 50 in the two-time winners' five-wicket win. Such was Cummins' carnage that he came in the middle, at No. 7, in the 14th over and finished off the proceedings with four overs to spare.

The Aussie all-rounder struck at 373.33 as his innings included 4 fours and 6 sixes. While he took on Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills, he was particularly destructive against his compatriot Daniel Sams as the MI pacer conceded 35 runs in his third over, which proved to be the last six balls of the match. Cummins went bonkers with 6,4,6, 6, 4, 6 as Sams also bowled a no-ball in between. Following his disastrous over, Sams joined Harshal Patel & Co. in an unwanted list.

The Aussie pacer bowled the second-most expensive over in IPL history. Before the Cummins' carnage, he had only conceded 15 runs, with a wicket, in his first two overs. Eventually, he finished with match figures of 3-0-50-1.

Cummins, meanwhile, registered the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history, joining KL Rahul at the top. After his match-winning knock, he said at the post-match presentation, "I probably think I'm most surprised by that innings. I'm glad that it came off. The hard thing after a big auction is that there are a lot of changes from last year. It's a good mix of talent out there and quite relaxed with the boys."

IPL 2022: Daniel joins Harshal in unwanted list after being hammered by Pat Cummins in KKR-MI match

Not many would have thought that the five-time winners Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) would be struggling to open their account in IPL 2022 edition. After three games, the Mumbai Paltan are winless and occupy the penultimate spot in the overall standings.

With two back-to-back defeats, MI faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 14 of the 15th edition on Wednesday evening (April 06), in a bid to open their account in their third fixture. Nonetheless, third-time lucky didn't prove to be the case for the MI line-up, who lost to the Shreyas Iyer-led unit by five wickets at the MCA Stadium, Pune.

Being asked to bat first, Rohit & Co. rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 36-ball 52, Tilak Verma's 38* and Kieron Pollard's 5-ball unbeaten 22 to post a competitive 161-4 in 20 overs. After a slow and sluggish start, they recovered in style but all efforts went in vain with Pat Cummins' stunning fireworks and Venkatesh Iyer's 50 not out in KKR's run-chase.

While Iyer held one end with a calculative 50*, Cummins smashed the MI bowlers -- after joining the run-chase at 103 for 5 -- to close the match in the 16th over; slamming the joint-fastest IPL fifty (in 14 balls). He, thus, returned with a blazing 15-ball 56* to keep MI winless.

Thus, head coach Mahela Jayawardene has broken his silence on MI's indifferent start to the ongoing season.

“I think we knew that they have a strategy where they bowl their spinners at the backend as well. So we needed to make sure that we had guys to take them on. Suryakumar Yadav was one of them. But initially it was a tough wicket. There was steep bounce, and there was little bit in it. We felt that we got stuck a little bit, and we were behind, and needed a par course," Jayawardene said at the post-match press conference.

"That was the plan in the 13th over, and I thought with the couple of big overs at the end, we got that par score, and we were in the game for pretty much all the way. In the past few games we’ve not ruthless enough to close games off," he added.

Reflecting on MI's journey ahead after a tough start, Jayawardene further opined, "It’s always tough when you have a start like this, but we need to look at the positives. We’ve been playing some really good cricket, but we’re not closing games off. All three games we were in it, but we’re not able to finish it off. These are concerns, especially with the ball that we’re not executing at the back-end under pressure.. some of the execution has been poor. We need to brush up on that."

“It’s a long tournament, three games, yeah it is tough but we need to make sure that we get a win and get into those habits. Anything can happen with 10 teams. There are a lot of teams that’s gonna beat each other so we have to make sure we’re in it midway through the season," he concluded.

MI not ruthless enough: Mahela Jayawardene breaks silence on Rohit & Co.'s winless run in IPL 2022

Pat Cummins produced one of the best innings in IPL history as he slammed the joint-fastest fifty (joining KL Rahul at the top) in the cash-rich league, off 14 balls, during Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) 162-run chase versus the five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MCA Stadium, Pune on Wednesday (April 06).

Coming out to bat at No. 7, with the score being 101 for 5, the Aussie all-rounder was on song from the word go. He took on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills before going bonkers versus Daniel Sams to churn out 35 runs, in the 16th over, and finish off the proceedings at one go. While it seemed the run-chase would go down the wire when the Aussie Test captain came out to bat, the 28-year-old pulled off a stunning display to make heads turn worldwide.

At the post-match presentation, Cummins reflected on his match-winning knock and said, "I probably think I'm most surprised by that innings. I'm glad that it came off. I was thinking of having a swing if it was in my area. Wasn't trying to overthink it. Very satisfying to do it on my first game this season. Was just trying to pepper the shorter boundary. The hard thing after a big auction is that there are a lot of changes from last year. It's a good mix of talent out there and quite relaxed with the boys."

Watch: How KKR's Pat Cummins trained at the nets ahead of his joint-fastest IPL fifty in MI tie

Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a woeful start to their campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as they are yet to get off the mark in the tournament after back-to-back defeats in their first two games this season. Mumbai Indians lost to Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets in their opening game before Jos Buttler's sensational hundred helped Rajasthan Royals thrash them in their last outing.

Mumbai Indians' bowling owes have been left exposed this season as ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is failing to find support from the other end. While Bumrah was excellent with a three-wicket haul while conceding only 17 runs against RR, none of the other MI pacers could make an impact.

Murugan Ashwin has played as the lone spinner in the team so far but has failed to impress as MI have struggled to pick wickets in the middle overs. Rohit Sharma & Co. will hope for a batter show from the bowlers when they lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their third game of the season at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.

Against a KKR batting line-up consisting of the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell who can take down any bowling attack on their day, MI bowlers will have to step up and deliver as an off day from them can prove costly for the team's chances.

Kolkata Kight Riders have won two out of their first three games this season and have appeared as a confident unit under new skipper Shreyas Iyer. KKR's middle-order remains a concern for the franchise and skipper Iyer will have to control his urge to big against spinners to ensure he can stay in the middle for longer and anchor the innings for his side.

With Umesh Yadav in fine form, KKR have been excellent with the new ball during the powerplay but there remain concerns in death overs. Andre Russell's fitness will be key as the all-rounder's contributions with the ball are vital for KKR's chances. While KKR will be looking to continue the winning momentum, MI will hope to get their first win in the bag on Wednesday.

KKR vs MI, IPL 2022 prediction:

Mumbai Indians are used to facing the early jitters in a new season but Rohit's men have a lot to work upon and improve as the season progresses. KKR will be high on confidence after comprehensive win over Punjab Kings in their last game and are likely to continue their winning momentum at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.

I just wanted to spend some time in the middle, work the bowling around, play some 15-16 balls and then go after the bowling. 161 is a winning total, according to me. I didn't find any dew, it'll remain sticky and we're confident in defending it."

IPL 2022: Suryakumar lights up the atmosphere with a glorious upper-cut six during MI vs KKR clash - WATCH

Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player in the IPL 2022 mega auction (rejoining the Mumbai Indians for INR 15.25 crore). Making his IPL debut for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions (GL), Ishan has come a long way and is now MI's mainstay at the top of the batting order.

From a young inexperienced player to being one of the vital cogs in MI line-up, Ishan has had quite a journey in the IPL. I mean all the seniors in the team would sit together. But I was the young one who was still finding his way."

"Hardik bhai was always like 'You leave him to me'. And he actually told me also that until you improve, we can't give you a match'. I also felt then that what they're saying is for my own benefit," Kishan added.

'Until you improve, we can't...': MI opener Ishan Kishan recalls how Hardik Pandya assisted him

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has heaped praise on Mumbai Indians (MI) youngster Tilak Varma. The left-hand batter has impressed in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 so far with his brilliant batting for the five-time champions. He was roped in by Mumbai Indians for a sum of Rs 1.7 crore (INR 17 million) at the mega auction in February this year.

Tilak, a former India U-19 player, has shown a lot of potential on the big stage and has done well for the franchise in their first two matches of the season. After scoring 22 runs in MI's opener against Delhi Capitals, Tilak slammed his maiden IPL half-century in their next game against Rajasthan Royals.

Mumbai Indians failed to chase down the target of 194 runs in their last game against Rajasthan Royals but Tilak was one of the positives for the team as he slammed a quickfire 61 off 33 balls. Shastri, who is currently on commentary duties during the ongoing IPL 2022, has been left impressed by the youngster's shot selection and temperament.

“He has shown a lot of potential in both the innings he has played for Mumbai Indians. I am impressed looking at his wide range of shots- front foot, back foot, sweep. There’s a lot of variation in his shot selection,” Shastri said on Star Sports.

“His composure, body language and temperament is very good for a young player. He’s batted very confidently. This player has the potential to go ahead. Tilak Varma has shown positive intent with his batting and these are good signs for Mumbai Indians. Once Suryakumar Yadav is back in the playing eleven, Mumbai’s middle-order will be strong,” the former India head coach explained.

A number of franchises including the likes of Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and others had expressed interest in signing Tilak at the IPL 2022 mega auction this year. His base price was just Rs 20 lakh (INR 2 million) but the bidding wars between the teams resulted in the right-hand batter going to Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.7 crore (17 million).

Tilak is expected to feature regularly at number 3 for Mumbai Indians this year having impressed in the first two games. Mumbai Indians are known for grooming young talents in the league and Tilak can be one of the stars for the team in the future if he can realise his potential with the five-time champions.

'He has the potential to go ahead': Ravi Shastri heaps praise on Mumbai Indians youngster Tilak Varma

Mumbai Indians are known to be slow starters in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they often stumble at the start of the season before finding their groove as the tournament progresses. However, this season has been different for the five-time champions, who have a squad that doesn't inspire much confidence to spark a turnaround.

Mumbai Indians have suffered back-to-back defeats in their first two matches of the ongoing IPL 2022 as their bowling woes have been left exposed while the batters are yet to fire as a unit. While young Ishan Kishan and Tilka Varma have been brilliant with the willow, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Tim David are yet to get going.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah bounced back with an impressive show against Rajasthan Royals in their last game as he bagged a three-wicket haul after going for runs in the opener against Delhi Capitals, but the rest of the bowlers failed to impress once again. MI's bowling attack has not been the same post the departure of Trent Boult, who was roped in by RR at the mega auction this year.

The likes of Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills and Basil Thami have all been expensive and failed to make an impact. The bowlers will have to step up when Mumbai Indians take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their third game of the season at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.

Mumbai Indians are also expected to have Suryakumar Yadav back in the playing XI for the first time this season. The star Indian batter has joined the rest of the squad after completing his quarantine and has recovered from his finger injury. His return is set to bolster MI's batting line-up which has been heavily dependent on Kishan and Varma so far this season.

Against an in-form KKR bowling lineup with Umesh Yadav on fire and Sunil Narine also doing well, Suryakumar's return will be a huge boost for Mumbai Indians. He has been one of the consistent run-getters for the franchise over the years and is expected to set the ball rolling quickly once again this season.

IPL 2022: Suryakumar Yadav back? Mumbai Indians' predicted playing XI for KKR clash

Ishan Kishan is rising in stature with each passing year due to his fearless striking and keeping skills, for both Team India and Mumbai Indians (MI). Like every keeper-batter in India idolises MS Dhoni, Ishan is no exception. However, Ishan and Dhoni have never shared a dressing room for India and even in the IPL.

Nonetheless, Dhoni and Ishan have been in the same XI while representing the Jharkhand team. When Ishan-Dhoni were part of Jharkhand a Vijay Hazare Trophy, the youngster was left clueless and puzzled with his senior pro's hand-gestures on the field. Ishan revealed the hilarious incident during the second episode of Breakfast With Champions Season 7 with host Gaurav Kapur.

Mumbai Indians have suffered back-to-back defeats in their first two matches of the season so far but there have been a few positives for the five-time champions.

In the last few years, with some sponsorship and match fees, I could just about take care of my cricketing expenses,” Tilak was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“We don’t own a house as yet. So with whatever I have earned in this IPL, my only aim is to get a house for my parents. This IPL money gives me the luxury to play freely for the rest of my career," he added.

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) will be looking to get back to winning ways when they lock horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their second game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Saturday. The match will be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and will be the first game of the double-header on Saturday.

Mumbai Indians slipped to a 4-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals in their first game after failing to defend a total of 177 runs despite being in control for the majority of DC's run-chase. MI bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav, who took Delhi Capitals over the line comfortably at the end.

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, won their first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) comprehensively by 61 runs to get off to a winning start in the tournament. It was a brilliant all-round show from RR as both batsmen and the bowlers impressed in the big win.

Rajasthan Royals' bowling attack consisting of the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna and R Ashwin is one of the best in the tournament this year and is likely to test the Mumbai Indians batsmen. Boult, Chahal and Krishna will be looking to continue their fine form against MI on Saturday after a brilliant show against SRH in their last outing.

While Rajasthan bowlers stole the show with their brilliant performances in their last game, MI bowlers were far from impressive. Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams conceded 57 and 43 runs respectively in their 4 overs as they were slammed all around the ground. Basil Thampi picked up three wickets against SRH but also went for runs.

Mumbai Indians will be hoping for a better show from their bowlers this time around. Rajasthan Royals have a star-studded batting line-up consisting of the likes of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer among others who all looked in good touch against SRH and will be difficult to stop for MI.

MI vs RR, IPL 2022 match prediction:

Mumbai Indians hold a slight edge over Rajasthan Royals with 13 wins in 25 meetings between the two teams. However, with the departures of the likes of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Quinton de Kock among others, MI is not the same team as it was last year. RR might edge MI in the game tonight considering the winning momentum they are enjoying and the rich form of their players.

Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered their second straight defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as they lost against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 23 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday (April 2nd). Chasing a target of 194 runs, Rohit Sharma & Co. were restricted on 170 by RR bowlers as fifties from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma went in vain.

After losing their opening game against Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets, Mumbai Indians headed into the RR clash with an aim to bounce back to winning ways. Rohit won the toss and invited Rajasthan to bat first. RR got off to a poor start but rode on Jos Buttler's stunning century and crucial knocks of 30 and 35 runs from Samson and Shimron Hetmyer respectively to post 193 runs on the board.

While Jasprit Bumrah roared back to form with a three-wicket haul, it was yet another disappointing performance from the MI bowlers, who were taken to the cleaners by the RR batters. Mumbai Indians lost skipper Rohit (10) and Anmolpreet Singh (5) cheaply early in their run-chase before Ishan and Varma steadied the ship with fifties apiece. The duo added 81 runs for the third wicket but the MI inning faltered after their departure as the five-time champions fell short in the run chase.

"I thought they batted pretty well to get to 193. Buttler played an exceptional innings. We tried everything to get him out but he played really well. I thought 193 on that pitch could have been chased, especially when we needed 70 off 7 overs. But these things can happen as it is early days in the tournament, we can learn from that and come out better," said Rohit at the post-match presentation.

"Bumrah bowling well, Mills too, Tilak's batting was exceptional and so was Ishan's. I think one of those two should have batted through," he added.

Mumbai Indians are currently missing the services of their star batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has joined the team's bio-bubble but is yet to be deemed full fit to feature in the tournament. While Rohit admitted he would walk straight into the XI when fit, the MI skipper said the franchise is not looking to take any risk with his injury.

"He (Suryakumar Yadav) is a key player for us. Once he is fit he will come straight back. These finger injuries can be tricky and we want to give him time," said Rohit.

IPL 2022: Zaheer Khan provides update on Suryakumar Yadav's availability for Mumbai Indians

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians got a boost in its middle-order when India batter Suryakumar Yadav joined the squad's bio-bubble after recovering from a finger injury and completing the mandatory quarantine period.

Yadav on Wednesday participated in a strength and conditioning session with some other Mumbai Indians stars and will now be available for their match against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (April 2) at the D.Y Patil Stadium here.

Suryakumar had suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on February 20. He was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and has recently recovered from the injury.

Suryakumar Yadav exited his mandatory quarantine and joined the team for the gym session in the company of his mates Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan and Jasprit Bumrah," the franchise informed in a statement on Thursday.

The team underwent a strength and conditioning session on Wednesday under the watchful eyes of Paul Chapman. The session involved weight and fitness training, with the focus on working on core fitness and building strength, the statement said.

In Yadav's absence, the Mumbai Indians' middle-order had struggled to build on the good start provided by openers Rohit Sharma (41) and Ishan Kishan (81), who raised 67 for the opening wicket in their four-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals. Mumbai Indians had posted a below-par 177/5 that Delhi chased in 18.2 overs.

If Yadav returns to action against the Royals on Saturday, the pressure on Tilak Verma and Kieron Pollard in the middle order will be eased a bit.

IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings register impressive wins on Day 2

The second game of the IPL 2022 edition saw the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) lock horns with the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday afternoon. In the first afternoon game of the season, the five-time winners MI franchise went down to Rishabh Pant & Co. by four wickets in defence of a challening 178 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

Opting to bowl first, the DC camp rode on Kuldeep Yadav's 3 for 18 as MI posted 177-5 courtesy skipper Rohit (41) and Ishan Kishan's 48-ball 81 not out. In reply, the Delhi camp lost Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert after good starts whereas the big guns such as Pant and Rovman Powell perished soon. At 72 for 5, not many would've given a chance to the DC camp but Axar Patel's 17-ball 38* and Lalit Yadav's 38-ball 48*, along with Shardul Thakur's 11-ball 22, propelled DC to a stunning four-wicket win.

Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Capitals as they defeated Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 opener on Sunday. The left-arm chinaman kept the batsmen at bay with his brilliant line and length and he ended the match with figures of 3/18 after 4 overs.

The last couple of years have been rough for Kuldeep as he lost his position in the Indian cricket team and he barely featured for Kolkata Knight Riders. During the 2021 season, the spinner missed the UAE leg due to an injury that forced him to undergo a knee surgery. He lost a number of months due to the injury and he finally made his return during India’s series against West Indies last month.

IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians - Head to head record, trivia, stats and squads

Fighting knocks from Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel helped Delhi Capitals in defeating Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets in the Indian Premier League 2022 clash on Sunday.

At the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel played unbeaten knocks of 48 and 38 respectively as Delhi chased the target of 178 with 10 balls left to play.

Capitals who needed 75 off 42 at one point looked deep in trouble when Shardul Thakur became the sixth wicket to fall soon after.

But they weren't done yet as Patel and Yadav pulled off a coup to gather points for Capitals.

Earlier, knocks from Ishan Kishan and captain Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to a total of 177/5 in their Indian Premier League 2022 match against Delhi Capitals.

Chasing 178, Delhi got off to a bad start as they lost three wickets inside the first six overs. Murugan Ashwin was the pick for Rohit Sharma as bowler removed Tim Seifert for 21 and Mandeep Singh in his first over for Mumbai Indians.

In the very next over which was the 5th of the innings, Tymal Mills sent DC captain Rishabh Pant back in the hut. With a short length delivery just outside off stump, Pant looked to cut over point but got the outside edge that travelled straight to Tim David at third man.

Delhi's score read 46/3 after the first powerplay.

Lalit Yadav then joined opener, Prithvi Shaw, on the crease as both batters kept runs clocking for Delhi. With DC looking to gain momentum in the middle overs, Basil Thampi struck twice in the 10th over to dismantle the chase of Capitals.

Thampi first sent set opener, Prithvi Shaw, for 38 and then packed the bags of Rovman Powell in the same over.

Thampi struck again in the 14th over to remove dangerous-looking Shardul Thakur for 22. MI bowler got his third wicket of the day as Thakur went for the pull but the ball was fuller for the shot and hence got the top edge that went to Rohit Sharma at covers.

Axar Patel then joined Lalit Yadav in the middle and both batters valiantly took the charge against MI bowlers as Delhi needed 28 runs from 18 balls.

The 18th over proved vital as Patel and Yadav smashed Daniel Sams for 24 runs which included three mammoth sixes as Delhi ended any hope of Mumbai.

IPL 2022: Kishan's 81* in vain as Lalit, Axar power Delhi Capitals to four-wicket win against Mumbai Indians

Match 2 of the ongoing IPL 2022 edition will see the most successful team, i.e. Mumbai Indians (MI) face the young and exciting Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals on Sunday afternoon (March 27) at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. After the 15th season got off to a perfect start with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, expect another mouth-watering contest between the two sides.

Talking about the MI Paltans, the Men in Blue are a new-look side but have retained their core players. The likes of skipper Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav will form the nucleus of the franchise whereas the new additions in the form of Tim David, Tymal Mills, Dewald Brevis, Fabian Allen will be eager to add to the side. It will be interesting to see what combination does the Mahela Jayawardene-led MI franchise decide upon aganist DC's young guns. On the other hand, DC lost the services of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada but still have much firepower to rely upon, with Rovman Powell, Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, David Warner, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel.

Nonetheless, DC's biggest worry is the availability of players. Many of their superstar cricketers haven't joined the side and will miss the opening few games. Hence, DC's bench strength will be put to test and a young captain in Rishabh will have to cleverly manage his resources.

Match prediction for MI vs DC: While it is an underrated rivalry between the two sides, MI just have an edge over DC by being marginally ahead (16-14) in head-to-head tally. In the last season, DC completed a double over MI after losing four back-to-back games, including the finale, in IPL 2020. Expect plenty of runs and some assitance for the slower bowlers as the game progresses. While it is tough to predict a winner at this stage of the tournament, expect MI to edge past DC on experience.

IPL 2022: Yuzvendra Chahal, Irfan Pathan laud Kuldeep Yadav for brilliant show against MI

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma achieved yet another captaincy milestone as he led his side out against Delhi Capitals in their opening game of the ongoing IPL 2022 season on Sunday (March 27). Rohit surpassed former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir to become the third most experienced captain in the history of the IPL.

Rohit went past Gambhir in the elite list of players with most matches as captain. Rohit completed 130 matches as captain as he led Mumbai Indians out in their clash against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Gambhir is now on the fourth spot in the elite list with 129 matches as captain in the cash-rich league.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni is on top of the list with 204 matches to his name as captain in the IPL. Dhoni had led CSK in all twelve seasons that they were part of the competition before stepping down from captaincy ahead of the ongoing 15th edition.

Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy baton to Ravindra Jadeja and is part of IPL 2022 as a player. Dhoni had also led now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2016 season when CSK were banned from the IPL for two years. Dhoni has four titles to his name as captain and is one of the most successful captains in the league.

Most matches as captain in IPL:

MS Dhoni (204)

Virat Kohli (140)

Rohit Sharma (130)

Gautam Gambhir (129)

Rohit, who started leading Mumbai Indians from the 2013 season, is the captain with the most number of IPL titles as he has so far led his team to five title triumphs under his captaincy. While he has already gone past Gambhir in the list of players with most matches as captain, he will now aim to go past Kohli, who has stepped down as the captain of RCB.

Kohli has 140 matches to his name as captain of RCB with 64 wins and 69 losses. Rohit is likely to surpass Kohli in the ongoing season unless he has to miss a few matches due to an injury. However, the Hitman has a long way to go to overtake Dhoni on the elite list.

It might take Rohit another few seasons for Rohit to go past Dhoni and become the player with most matches as captain in IPL history.
