Former India opener Virender Sehwag recently opened up on the rivalry between India and Pakistan. The two teams are set to lock horns in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. The blockbuster clash between the arch-rivals will be played at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24.

Ahead of the clash, Sehwag explained why Pakistan have always failed to beat India in World Cups. India currently enjoy a flawless winning streak against Pakistan when it comes to both ODI and T20 World Cups and have never lost a game against the Men in Green.

Sehwag said India focuses on preparing well for the game while the Pakistan camp prioritises sending out big statements ahead of the clash between the two teams. Sehwag's response came after he was asked to share his views on the comments of a Pakistani news anchor who said "tareekh badal denge" ( We will change our fortunes ) referring to the clash against India on 'Vishwa Vijeta' show on ABP News.

"If I talk about the 2011 World Cup or the 2003 World Cup, we are under less pressure because our position remains better than Pakistan in the World Cup. So in my opinion, when we play with that attitude, we never give big statements," Sehwag said on ABP News.

"There are always some big statements from the Pakistani side like he [Pakistani news anchor] said at the starting of his show that "We are going to change the date". India never says such things because they go better prepared. And when you go better prepared, you already know what the result would be," he added.

India have a brilliant record against Pakistan in World Cups. The Men in Blue have won on all five occasions in their five meetings with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. In ODI World Cups, India and Pakistan have faced each other seven times and India have won all seven games. India currently possesses a 12-0 head-to-head record against Pakistan in World Cups.

Virat Kohli-led India will hope to keep their stellar record intact when they face Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai on October 24. However, Sehwag believes the T20 World Cup 2021 can be Pakistan's best chance to end India's winning streak against them. Sehwag feels T20 is an unpredictable format thus Pakistan stand a decent chance at beating India this time around.

"We are listening to the same thing for the past many years. And the buildup is always the same that it's a huge game and it is. This topic is always in the discussion that Pakistan hasn't won a match against India in the World Cup and the debate about whether they can win this time is the same too," said Sehwag.

"But if we talk about the current scenario and this format then I think this is where Pakistan always has more chances because they might not play that well in the longer 50-over format. In this format, even one player can defeat any team. But still, Pakistan hasn't been able to do that, we'll see what happens on the 24th," he added.

David Warner comes up with hilarious response as Rohit Sharma flaunts India's T20 World Cup jersey

Former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed has claimed that Team India are under pressure heading into the T20 World Cup 2021 which is the reason why they have appointed former captain MS Dhoni as a mentor for the tournament. Dhoni has returned to the Indian dressing room, a year after announcing his retirement from international cricket and will be mentoring the Indian team in the showpiece event in UAE and Oman.

India will open their campaign against Pakistan with a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, Ahmed shared his views on India's chances at the showpiece event and insisted that India are a top team but their recent performances have not been up to the mark.

He also pointed out how Virat Kohli's decision to step down as T20 captain after the World Cup shows that he is under pressure and so is the team. The former Pakistan cricketer also raised questions over India's T20 World Cup squad and said most of the players selected were not in the top ten performers in the recently-concluded IPL 2021.

“On paper, there is no doubt that India is a top team. The way they have played cricket around the world, but you have to look at recent performances. Firstly, I’d like to talk about Virat Kohli. He was under a lot of pressure and he quit T20 captaincy. He said I won’t captain in T20s as my performances have not been great," Ahmed said in a show on ARY News and ABP News.

“Then, maybe they were under pressure so they are taking MS Dhoni as a mentor. Even if you look at the IPL, the players in India’s squad were not among the top 10 performers. Their spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have not done very well, so of course, there will be pressure,” he added.

India will head into the T20 World Cup 2021 as one of the favourites for the title with significant firepower in their batting and bowling. Having Dhoni as a mentor will also help some of the youngsters deal with the pressure of playing on the biggest stage of them all.

India will face New Zealand on October 31 after the much-anticipated opener against Pakistan before locking horns with Afghanistan in their next game.

Having Dhoni as a mentor will also help some of the youngsters deal with the pressure of playing on the biggest stage of them all. India will face New Zealand on October 31 after the much-anticipated opener against Pakistan before locking horns with Afghanistan in their next game.

India head coach Ravi Shastri on Monday said the dew factor will decide whether the team will go with an extra seamer or spinner during its upcoming ICC T20 World Cup campaign starting on October 24 against Pakistan.

Shastri, who is on his last assignment with the Indian team, also made it clear that the primary objective of the two warm-up games against England (this evening) and Australia on October 20 is to understand how the players are placed in terms of form and rhythm.

"We'll just try to see how much dew is around and accordingly decide to bat/bowl first. Also helps us decide about playing an extra spinner or seamer," Shastri told former India stumper Deep Dasgupta during an interaction for official broadcasters 'Star Sports'.

India are scheduled to play all their matches in the evening, when dew becomes a major factor.

The heavier the dew, the more difficult it is for spinners to grip the ball, making stroke-play easier for batsmen.

Shastri said that IPL has been an ideal preparatory ground for the Indian players, most of whom are regulars for their respective franchises.

"Boys have been playing IPL for the last two months, so I don't think they need too much of preparation. It's more about them getting together and adapting together. Get some rhythm going, some energy going."

Asked about the specific gains he is eyeing from the warm-up games, Shastri said: "Everyone can bat, everyone can bowl (in this game). So it will help us to get an idea about who is doing how.

"Not really (regarding any locked strategy). We'll just see how things go and work a combination around."

Team India's star all-rounder Hardik Pandya recently opened up on his special bond with former captain MS Dhoni. Pandya revealed Dhoni is like a brother to him who understood him right from the time when he first came into the Indian national side and supported him through thick and thin to play an important role in his rise as a cricketer.

Hardik made his India debut under Dhoni's captaincy in 2016 and went on to establish his credentials as one of the top all-rounders in the world. Hardik has been out of the Indian Test squad for a while now due to a back injury that has hampered his bowling, however, he remains a vital cog in India's white-ball teams.

Hardik said he is very close to Dhoni and admires him for being there when the all-rounder needed support from the former captain, who has helped a number of youngsters by sharing his experiences with them. Hardik insisted he never saw Dhoni as one of the great cricketers of India but as a brother who was there when he needed him.

"He was. MS was someone who understood me from the start: how I function, what kind of a person I am, what are the things I don't like, everything," Hardik told ESPNCricinfo's CricketMonthly.

"He knows what kind of an individual I am. He knows me quite deep. I am very close to him. He is the only person who can make me calm. When all this happened (the television show controversy), he knew that I needed support. I just needed a shoulder, which he provided multiple times in my cricketing career. I never saw him as MS Dhoni the greatest. For me, Mahi is my brother. I respect and admire the fact that he was there when I needed him the most," Hardik added.

Dhoni is often referred to as Captain Cool for keeping a calm demeanour even in the most pressurising situations on the field when leading a team.

“Staying with him, obviously, you learn to be mature, you learn to become humble. I have learned a lot by watching him. He never loses his cool," said Hardik.

Team India will aim to end their ICC trophy drought when they return to action in the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman. The Virat Kohli-led side will open their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan with a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24.

India's last major ICC trophy came under former captain MS Dhoni when he inspired the Men in Blue to a historic triumph at the Champions Trophy in England. India have since failed to clinch a major ICC trophy and will be desperate to return home with the elusive T20 World Cup title.

Since taking over as the full-time skipper of the Indian team in 2017, Kohli has been instrumental as a batter and a leader in India's success across all three formats of the game. However, an ICC trophy continues to elude the run-machine when it comes to his record as a captain.

Having already announced that he will be stepping down as the captain of the T20I side after the T20 World Cup 2021, Kohli will be hoping to end his captaincy stint in the shortest format on a high and inspire India to their second T20 World Cup title.

Ahead of the start of India's campaign at the showpiece event, here we take a look at the team's performances under Virat Kohli in major ICC events so far -

1) ICC Champions Trophy 2017

The Champions Trophy in 2017 was Virat Kohli's first major assignment as the captain of the Indian team. Up against arch-rivals Pakistan in the very first game of the tournament, India registered a massive win by 124 runs to get their campaign underway in style. The win set the tone for the Men in Blue as they played some phenomenal cricket in the group stages to make it to the knockout round.

In the semi-final, India were up against an in-form and spirited Bangladesh side. Kohli & Co. mauled their oponnents by nine wickets to book a spot in the final where they were once again up against Pakistan. Batting first, Pakistan posted a huge total of 338 runs at the Kennington Oval in London before bowling out India for a paltry 158 as the Men in Blue lost the final by a whopping 180 runs to miss out on the trophy.

2) ICC ODI World Cup 2019

Virat Kohli's first ODI World Cup as the captain of the Indian team couldn't have come at a better time for the skipper. With most of the players at the peak of their prowess, Kohli & Co. were one of the favourites heading into the tournament. They did live up to the expectations and dominated the league stage to top the points table with 15 points from nine matches with just one loss in nine games.

However, India crumbled under pressure in the semi-final against New Zealand. The rain-affected clash was played across two days in Manchester with New Zealand posting a moderate total of 239/8 batting first. India got off to a woeful start in the run-chase as they lost their top three on one run each and were reduced to 3/5 inside the first four overs. MS Dhoni (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (77) led India's fightback and got the team close to a victory. However, India suffered a heartbreaking loss by 18 runs to bow out of the tournament. It also turned out to be MS Dhoni's final game in an India jersey as he announced his retirement on August 15, a year later.

India once again proved to be the best team in the league stages as they lost just one out of six series they took part in during the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship which was played from 2019 to 2021. India's only series defeat came against New Zealand as they topped the rankings in the league stages to make it to the final where they were once again up against the Kiwis.

It was a golden chance for Virat Kohli to extend India's dominance further in Test cricket and bring an end to their ICC trophy drought. However, New Zealand outclassed India in a thrilling final to become the maiden champions of the World Test Championship. New Zealand won the rain-affected final by eight wickets in Southampton to lift the prestigious trophy.

As India gear up for T20 World Cup 2021, a look at team's performances in ICC events under Virat Kohli

Indian captain Virat Kohli is one of the most passionate characters on the field when he is playing for his team. However, off the field, he remains a gentleman who also likes to have fun and pull the legs of his teammates. Kohli is a master when it comes to copying the action of different players and has often mimicked some of his Indian teammates.

The Indian skipper was recently seen mimicking left-hand batter Shikhar Dhawan in a video shared by him on social media. In the video, Kohli can be seen trying to adjust his shirt exactly like Dhawan before taking his stance. He then goes on to copy Dhawan's upright stance and the way he leaves a ball while batting.

Hardik Pandya is currently one of the most highly-rated all-rounders in world cricket. He has struggled with fitness issues recently and has not bowled much due to a back injury but remains a vital cog of the Indian team in white-ball cricket. He is part of India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 and will be donning the role of the finisher in the team.

Pandya, who made his international debut for India in 2016 has come a long way and has already established his credentials as one of the top all-rounders in the world. He was a regular in all three formats before a back injury hampered his progress as his bowling woes ensured he was out of the Test team. Nonetheless, he continues to be an important member of India's ODI and T20I teams.

Pandya recently opened up on tasting success at an early age and age his take on whether money changes the perspective of a youngster once he is offered a big contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pandya, who is a vital cog of the Mumbai Indians squad in the IPL, is currently on a salary of INR 110 million per season with the franchise.

Pandya said he and his brother Krunal, who also plays for Mumbai Indians, made sure they never lifted their foot off the ground after money changed their lives for good. Pandya, who comes from a humble background, said he would have been working at a petrol pump had it not been for the money in cricket.

“You need a strong head to understand what is happening. I and Krunal were very strong-headed, so we were able to accept the fact that money is there, but we make sure we never lift a foot off the ground. It might come across like I am flying and all that, but I know at the end of the day, my foot is always on the ground," Pandya said in an interview with Cricket Monthly when asked if money can be a distraction for youngsters in IPL.

"Money is good, bro. It changes a lot of things. I am one of those examples. Otherwise, I would be working at a petrol pump. I am not joking. For me, my family was the priority, to make sure my family has a good life,” he added.

Pandya further stated that it is important to talk about money as it helps youngsters in pursuing sports as a career. The star India all-rounder wondered how many youngsters will be willing to play cricket if there was no money involved in the game.

“In 2019 I had a conversation with someone who was saying, money should not be there for “you all young guys”. I disagreed. When a guy from a village or a small town gets a big contract, he does not keep it for himself, he is looking after his parents, he is looking after his relatives. Money makes the difference. And it gives motivation as well," said Pandya, who has played 11 Tests, 63 ODIs and 49 T20Is for India.

Also Read: From Amazon delivery man to Scotland's hero: Chris Greaves' story is an inspiration to all Pandya further stated that it is important to talk about money as it helps youngsters in pursuing sports as a career. Rahul Dravid likely to replace Ravi Shastri: A look at his achievements as a coach

R Ashwin's inclusion in India's squad for T20 World Cup 2021 came as a surprise to many. The senior spinner last played a white-ball game for India in 2017 and was a regular only in Tests with not many expecting him to feature in the T20 World Cup squad. However, Ashwin made his comeback into the side and is now likely to be one of the first-choice spinners for the Men in Blue at the showpiece event.

Captain Virat Kohli recently explained the reason behind Ashwin's inclusion in the squad and said the off-spinner was rewarded for reviving his skills in white-ball cricket. Ashwin might not have played white-ball cricket for India since 2017 but remains one of the vital cogs of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Tamil Nadu side in the domestic circuit.

“Ashwin has been rewarded for reviving his white-ball skills altogether. He bowls with a lot of courage in white-ball cricket,” Kohli said during a press conference organised by ICC on Saturday (October 16).

Kohli further went on to point out how Ashwin has been bowling well in the IPL over the last couple of years and has also taken up responsibility in pressure situations for Delhi Capitals. Kohli believes Ashwin's experience and his confidence heading into the tournament will prove handy for Team India at the T20 World Cup.

“If you saw the IPL in the last couple of years, he’s bowled difficult overs, he’s bowled against the top players in the IPL, and not being shy to put the ball in the right areas. Spinners can get intimidated by the way power hitters hit the ball, but Ashwin believed in his skill set," said the Indian skipper.

India will open their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. It remains to be seen if Ashwin will make the cut in the playing XI for the highly-anticipated clash between the two teams.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag hailed MS Dhoni after he guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Friday. Dhoni's CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in the final of IPL 2021 to further extend their dominance in the league with an elusive fourth IPL crown. Sehwag believes it will be hard for any captain to beat Dhoni's legacy at CSK.

One of the most successful captains of all time, Dhoni led India exemplary well and guided them to numerous trophies over the years. He remains the only captain in international cricket to have won all three major ICC trophies in limited-overs cricket - T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013).

Sehwag said Dhoni's legacy with the Indian cricket team is hard to beat and the same is the case at CSK. Dhoni has led CSK to a remarkable four IPL triumphs and a staggering nine finals. He is one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL.

While lauding him for his captaincy, Sehwag also backed Dhoni to play another season of IPL for CSK next year. The former India opener believes Dhoni still has a year of cricket left in him despite turning 40 and that he should turn up for CSK once again in IPL 2022.

"It's a phenomenal team. No one in Team India could beat Dhoni's legacy and hopefully, it would be difficult for any other captain to do the same for CSK. I feel he has one more year left in him for Chennai. He must play next season and then retire," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag also reckoned that Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL titles compared to Dhoni's four will need some time to match Dhoni's achievements as the latter has guided CSK to nine finals so far.

"The legacy of the captain is known for the number of trophies he has won. And this captain [MS Dhoni] has won four titles and played 9 finals. So, to match him up will be an uphill task for any other skipper. Rohit Sharma is indeed close but to play 9 season finals, he needs more time," Sehwag added.

Dhoni didn't have a great season with the bat as he managed to score only 114 runs in 16 matches for CSK in IPL 2021 but was phenomenal as a captain and played an instrumental role in his side's success.

Did Australia legend Ricky Ponting refuse BCCI's offer to coach Team India?

In what comes as a significant development as far as Indian cricket is concerned, Rahul Dravid has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team. Dravid is all set to replace current head coach Ravi Shastri once his tenure gets over post the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.

The decision was taken by former India captain Dravid during the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai on Friday (October 15). As per a report in the Times of India, BCCI secretary Jay Shah held a meeting with Dravid and persuaded him to take over as the new head coach of team India.

There had been reported claiming that David might not be interested in coaching team India but the latest developments suggest that he is willing to take the top job and will be stepping down from his current role as the National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief soon.

“Dravid has confirmed he will be the next head coach of the Indian team. He will be stepping down as the head of the NCA soon,” a top BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI.

Apart from Shastri, current India bowling coach Bharat Arun is also set to be replaced with Dravid's trusted lieutenant Paras Mhambrey. Mhambrey has worked with Dravid in the past. Dravid will be offered a two-year contract by the BCCI and will be drawing a salary of INR 100 million (10 crore) as the head coach of the Indian team.

However, batting coach Vikram Rathore is expected to continue in his role under Dravid. The new backroom staff under Dravid will take charge from the New Zealand series in November post the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021.

“He was re-appointed as the NCA head last month. But the BCCI needed a strong candidate to take Indian cricket forward. He has worked so hard to develop the next line of Indian cricketers. Rahul Dravid set to replace Ravi Shastri as team India's new head coach after T20 World Cup 2021

Batting legend and former India captain Rahul Dravid is all set to take over as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team post the T20 World Cup 2021. Current head coach Ravi Shastri's contract is all set to expire after the T20 World Cup and Dravid has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the Men in Blue.

Shastri had taken over as the full-time head coach of the Indian team in 2017 and has since formed a formidable partnership with captain Virat Kohli to take the side to greater heights. Under Shastri, India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia in 2019 before repeating the feat once again this year.

India also made it to the final of the World Test Championship and the semi-final of the ODI World Cup in 2019 while also clinching some memorable wins both at home and overseas. However, Shastri is yet to win a major ICC trophy with the team and will be hoping to end his stint on a high with a triumph at the T20 World Cup 2021.

He is all set to be replaced by Dravid once his contract runs down. As per reports, Dravid has given his nod to the top post and will be joining the Indian team on a two-year contract starting from November this year. Reacting to the news of Dravid's appointment as the new head coach of the Indian team, former England captain Michael Vaughan issued a warning to the rest of the teams around the world.

Vaughan took to Twitter to state that the rest of the world should better beware if the news is true. "If it’s true Rahul Dravid is to be the next Indian coach I think the rest of the world better beware," he wrote on Twitter.

'The world better beware': Michael Vaughan reacts as Rahul Dravid agrees to take over as India head coach

India's legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid has revealed the one thing he finds most stressful and not it's not related to the sport. The 48-year-old has faced top class bowlers in his career and put them on the back foot with stunning shots. He managed to hold his nerves during crucial and pressure situations while playing for India, which earned him the nicknames like "Mr Dependable" and "The Wall".

However, there is one thing that stresses him and it is shopping. During his interaction in a YouTube series 'The Long Game' launched by payment app CRED, Dravid said, "It's hard to have secrets when you've been in the public space for such a long time. Nothing stresses me out like shopping. I've always found that to be the most stressful thing to do."

'Maybe I am not that famous': When a newspaper got Rahul Dravid's name wrong after his century

The T20 World Cup is set to begin from October 17 in the UAE, shortly after the end of the IPL 14 season. The mega event is highly-awaited as all the 16 participating teams will have a chance to win the biggest title in the shortest format of the game.

In the seventh edition, India and Pakistan are in the same group, i.e. Pool B, and will lock horns with each other on October 24, at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. While both sides only meet during ICC events or multi-nation tournaments, post their severely-hit political relations, fans are waiting for the blockbuster face-off; which never fails to catch the attention of the avid cricket followers and produces some memorable moments on the field.

Ahead of the mouth-watering clash, Star Sports -- the official broadcasters of the tournament -- have released a new video from their iconic advertisement series on Indo-Pak cricketing rivalry. It had first caught the attention of the cricketing fraternity during the 2015 ODI World Cup -- getting immense love for showing the friendly banter between the fans from both sides -- and the new version has also gone viral in no time as well.

India to play England, Australia: Complete schedule of T20 World Cup 2021 warm-up matches

Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Avesh Khan is likely to join team India as a net bowler ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman. Avesh has reportedly been asked by the BCCI to stay back in the UAE after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and join the Indian team bubble ahead of the World Cup.

Avesh has been in brilliant form in IPL 2021 so far and is currently the second-highest wicket-taker this season with 23 wickets to his name in 15 matches. He has bowled at a good pace and has also impressed with his consistency. The speedster can also be shifted to the reserves if the team management wants.

"The national selectors have decided to also include Avesh in the mix. As of now, he will be a net bowler but if the team management feels, he can be upgraded," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

Besides, Avesh, Sunrisers Hyderabad's new find Umran Malik has also been reportedly asked to join as a net bowler for team India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. Malik grabbed the limelight with his raw pace on his debut against Kolkata Knight Riders where he clocked over 151 kmph and shattered the record for the fastest delivery by an Indian this season.

Avesh, who was part of the reserves during India's tour of England, earlier this year, has impressed the team management. He was reportedly close to getting into the squad before an injury hampered his chances in England. As per PTI, many believe he was close to making it to the playing XI had he not gotten injured.

"Avesh bowls at an average speed of 142 to 145 clicks, earns disconcerting bounce from the flattest of decks and has been on support staff's radar for some time," the source told PTI.

Venkatesh Iyer as cover, Hardik Pandya to play as pure batter

Another youngster who is all set to get rewarded for his performances in IPL 2021 so far is KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer has played just eight matches in IPL so far but has done enough to convince the selectors of his skills and abilities. The batting all-rounder has so far scored 265 runs and picked up three wickets.

He has been asked to stay back as a cover and will stay with the rest of the Indian squad in the bubble ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup. The report also stated that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely to remain in the squad as a pure batter as there are still doubts over his bowling. Pandya didn't bowl a single over for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021.

BCCI have time till October 15 to make any changes in the current squad announced for the T20 World Cup 2021.

"Avesh bowls at an average speed of 142 to 145 clicks, earns disconcerting bounce from the flattest of decks and has been on support staff's radar for some time," the source told PTI. Venkatesh Iyer as cover, Hardik Pandya to play as pure batter Another youngster who is all set to get rewarded for his performances in IPL 2021 so far is KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. Harshal Patel and 2 other IPL stars likely to join Indian team to support their training for T20 WC - Report

Ravi Shastri's tenure as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team is set to come to an end soon. His current contract expires after the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be looking to announce his replacement soon after his exit.

Legendary Rahul Dravid's name has been doing the rounds for the post of India head coach after Shastri. Several former cricketers and experts have also given their backing to the former India captain, who has coached India U-19 and India A sides in the past. Earlier this year, Dravid also served as India's stand-in head coach for the Sri Lanka tour in Shastri's absence.

Former India chief selector MSK Prasad has also backed Dravid to join India's backroom staff after Shastri. Prasad also wants MS Dhoni to take a mentorship role with the team alongside Dravid. The former chief selector said it will be fantastic for the Indian team to have the iconic duo of Dravid and Dhoni in coaching and mentorship role.

“I would definitely feel that going forward it should be Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni. Rahul more as a coach and MS as a mentor. Dhoni and Rahul in the Indian team will be a fantastic thing to watch out for post-Ravi Shastri’s era,” Prasad was quoted as saying by Times of India in an interview.

Shastri had taken over as the head coach of the Indian team in 2017, replacing legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble after the country's defeat in the final of Champions Trophy 2017. He formed a formidable partnership with captain Virat Kohli at the helm and the duo led India to greater heights.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan once again expressed his disappointment over New Zealand and England's decision to pull out of their respective tours of Pakistan. New Zealand were in Pakistan for a limited-overs series but decided to cancel the series ahead of the first ODI between the two sides in Rawalpindi. England, on the other hand, refused to send their teams for the tour.

While expressing his disappointment over England's decision to snub their tour of Pakistan, the Pakistan Prime Minister said money has become a big player now and plays a major role in influencing the decisions of the cricket boards around the world.

Khan insisted that Indian controls world cricket now as the International Cricket Council (ICC) receives the majority of its funding from the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Indian markets. The Pakistan PM said no country can dare to pull out of their commitments against India, unlike Pakistan.

“England let itself down. I think that there is still this feeling in England that they do a great favour to play with countries like Pakistan. One of the reasons is that, obviously, the money," Khan was quoted as saying in an interview with the Middle East Eye.

“Money is a big player now. For the players, as well as for the cricket boards. The money lies in India, so basically, India controls world cricket now. I mean, they do, whatever they say goes. No one would dare do that to India because they know that the sums involved, India can sort of produce much more money,” he added.

New Zealand had pulled out of their tour of Pakitsan on the day of the first ODI against the hosts in Rawalpindi after receiving a 'security threat alert'. Days after New Zealand's decision, the England Cricket Board (ECB) also announced that the teams will not travel to Pakistan due to "increasing concerns about travelling to the region".

Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s chief Ramiz Raja had stated that cricket in the country can collapse if the Indian government wants. Raja had explained how PCB receives 50 per cent of its budget from ICC, which is dependent on the BCCI for funding.

"The ICC is a politicised body divided between the Asian and Western blocs and 90 per cent of its revenues are generated from India. It is frightening," the PCB chief had said.

"In a way, India's business houses are running Pakistan cricket and if tomorrow the Indian PM decides he will not allow any funding to Pakistan, this cricket board can collapse," he added.

India controls world cricket now: Imran Khan after New Zealand, England pull out of Pakistan tour

MS Dhoni is a name synonymous with success in Indian cricket. The former captain of the Indian cricket team enjoyed a glorious career before hanging up his boots from international cricket in August last year. Dhoni took over as India's captain for the first time in 2007 and led the Men in Blue to a memorable triumph at the 2007 T20 World Cup in what was the start of an era of dominance for the Indian team under his talismanic leadership.

Dhoni didn't stop there and went on to make India a dominant force across all formats of the game. India became the no.1 Test team for the first time, under his captaincy in 2009 before clinching the ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Dhoni remains the only captain to have won all three major ICC limited-overs trophies as captain and oversaw more than a decade of India's dominance in world cricket under his able leadership.

Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener believes a lot of India's success in modern-day cricket was based around Dhoni and the way he led the side. Klusener praised Dhoni for the way he led the Indian team after the retirement of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and guided them towards greater hieghts under his leadership. Besides winning all three major ICC trophies, Dhoni also guided India to numerous memorable series wins both at home and overseas.

"I think a lot of India's modern-day success has been based around MS Dhoni. The way he has taken the team forward after Sachin retired has just been incredible. And the way he has taken on responsibility as well. I was always marvelled at how MS put himself out there whenever the Indian team was in trouble and be brave enough to sort things out there," Klusener told CricketCountry in an interview.

While Klusener insisted it will be difficult for India to fill Dhoni's shoes, Klussener has big expectations from Rishabh Pant, who he feels is incredibly talented. Pant is currently India's no.1 wicket-keeper batsman across all three formats and has also been leading Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

"He is gonna leave a big hole but India is blessed to have a guy like Rishabh Pant, who is stepping into his shoes," said Klusener, who played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa and is currently working as the head coach of the Afghanistan national team.

Team India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently recalled wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant's struggles in the Indian team during his initial days in international cricket. Pant was once touted as an ideal replacement for former captain MS Dhoni and had been backed by many to become one of the future stars of Indian cricket before enduring a rough patch in his career.

From being touted as Dhoni's replacement, Pant was dropped from the ODI and T20I squads last year. He bounced back after impressing with his performances in the Test series against Australia Down Under and has now cemented his place in the Indian side across formats. Chahal recalled how fans used to tease Pant with Dhoni's name at the stadiums on his mistakes.

The spinner said Pant was just 19-20 years of age at the time but was under immense pressure to perform well and play like Dhoni. However, his teammates supported him during the rough phase and help him emerge as a champion.

"Actually, everyone wanted him (Pant) to be like Mahi bhai. The way MSD was behind the stumps. I remember if Pant would ever drop any catch or the DRS went wrong, then the whole ground would start shouting 'Mahi Mahi'," Chahal told SGTV.

"So, there was a lot of pressure on that child (Pant)… because he was only around 19 or 20 years old at that time. We would tell him to ignore all these things and focus on your game. He was under tremendous pressure...then he was also out of the team for a while," he added.

Chahal was part of the Indian side when Pant made his international debut in 2017. The young left-hander has since come a long way and is currently India's first-choice wicket-keeper batsman heading into the T20 World Cup 2021. Pant is also leading the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2021 and has led his side to the playoffs.

Chahal hailed Pant's remarkable rise and credited him for improving a lot in the last couple of years. He also urged fans to respect cricketers a little more as each player tries to give his best on the field.

"He made a superb comeback. He has improved a lot; he has shown a lot of maturity. His performance has been really good and I guess people should understand that when a sportsperson is on the ground, he tries his best, and nobody wants to perform badly. People should give a little respect to the player," Chahal said.

"Bowlers are now getting good help from Pant being behind the stumps. See, there is no replacement for any player. There can be no replacement for Mahi bhai. Pant is trying his best to do better and better. No need to do comparisons," he added.

Pant is also leading the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2021 and has led his side to the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians (MI) star Ishan Kishan was in splendid touch as he took the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowlers to the cleaners in his side's final league game of the IPL 2021 season on Friday (October 08). The left-hand wicket-keeper batsman slammed a brilliant knock of 84 runs off just 32 balls as he powered Mumbai Indians to their highest ever total of 235 runs against SRH.

Kishan opened the batting with captain Rohit Sharma at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in UAE and had come with the intent of taking on the bowlers from the word go. He wasted no time in launching an all-out attack against the SRH bowlers and gave MI a flying start.

After his stellar show as an opener against SRH, Kishan opened up on his chat with team India skipper Virat Kohli regarding his selection in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Kishan, who was enduring a rough patch in IPL 2021 before finding his mojo back in the last couple of games, revealed Kohli supported him during his poor run with the willow and also gave him clarity about his role in the Indian side for the T20 World Cup.

“I had a good chat with Virat bhai, Jasprit bhai also helped me. Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya also supported me. Everyone supported me and said this is a learning stage for me and make sure that I should learn from my mistakes here and not repeat it during the T20 World Cup,” Ishan said after his match-winning knock against SRH on Friday.

“Virat bhai told me ‘You are selected as an opener, you just have to be prepared for that. But at the bigger level, you need to be prepared for everything,” he added.

Kishan has been assured by captain Kohli that he has been selected in the World Cup squad as an opener in the absence of senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who was snubbed by the selectors. Kishan is likely to remain the backup opener in the side with Rohit and KL Rahul expected to be India's first-choice opener in the T20 World Cup in UAE this year.

Known for his ability to destroy bowling attacks with his attacking batting, Kishan has played only ten games for MI this season and has notched up 241 runs, striking at 133.88.

Mumbai Indians (MI) stars Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have both been out of form in the UAE leg of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Their struggles in the middle-order has become a concern for Mumbai Indians as the Rohit Sharma-led side remains at the seventh spot on the points table at present, with little chance of making it to the playoffs.

Suryakumar, who has been one of the consistent run-getters for Mumbai Indians over the past few years, has managed to notch up 222 runs in 12 matches so far and his failure to deliver has cost the side dearly in crucial matches in UAE. Kishan, on the other hand, has been dropped from the playing XI after a string of poor performances.

The left-hand wicket-keeper batsman has so far played only eight matches this season and has scored only 107 runs. Both Kishan and Suryaumar had earned their maiden India caps earlier this year, riding on their super show in the IPL. They have also been named in India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.

However, their poor form in the UAE leg of IPL 2021 ahead of the World Cup has raised concerns for the Indian team as well. Batting legend and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels both Ishan and Suryakumar have become relaxed after their India debuts and need to give themselves some time out in the middle to avoid making wrong shot selections.

“I think it looks to me like, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have just relaxed a little bit after getting the India cap. They might not have, but some of the shots they are playing – it looks like they are trying to play these big shots just because they are India players," said Gavaskar on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

"Sometimes what happens is, you gotta give yourself a little bit of time, and you gotta get your shot selection right. And I think that is where they have missed this time around, where their shot selection has not been exactly correct, and that’s why they’ve got out cheaply," he added.

Mumbai Indians have 10 points from 12 matches so far this season but their net run rate is the worst among all four teams in contentions for the final spot in the playoffs. They will face Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in their remaining two matches to ensure a spot in the top four.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq is not new to controversies. The ex-all-rounder is known for his absurd comments about the Indian cricket team and has often faced the heat for the same. Razzaq has made yet another controversial claim, stating that Team India do not play bilateral cricket against Pakistan because they can't compete against them.

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2013 due to political tensions between the two nations. India share one of the greatest rivalries in the history of cricket but have been meeting only in major ICC competitions for over eight years now.

However, Razzaq claimed India are the inferior team between the two and thus do not want to play against Pakistan. His absurd remarks came during a show on Pakistan news channel ARY News when the host asked him to compare the kind of talent Pakistan have in their cricket team to that of India.

"Do India have the kind of pace bowlers or all-rounders like Pakistan or you feel there is no match?" - the host asked Razzaq. The former Pakistan all-rounder responded by claiming that India do not have the kind of talent Pakistan possess in their ranks.

"I don't think India can compete with Pakistan. The kind of talent Pakistan has is entirely different and this I don't think is a good thing for cricket that India and Pakistan are not having matches. It used to be an exciting prospect and give players the opportunity to show how much pressure they could handle. So that has gone missing. I feel that had it continued, people would have found out that the kind of talent Pakistan has, India does not," Razzaq said on ARY News.

Razzaq also went on to compare some of the greats of the Indian cricket team with former Pakistan cricketers while trying to prove that his country has produced better talent over the years. The former Pakistan all-rounder claimed Pakistan have had better players potential wise when compared to India.

"India too has a good team, I'm not saying anything otherwise. Even they have good players. But if you look at it potential wise, we had Imran Khan, they had Kapil Dev. If you are to compare, then Imran Khan was a lot better. Then we had Wasim Akram, they did not have a player of that calibre," said Razzaq.

If you look at it overall, Pakistan have always produced good players. All these are big reasons. This is why India don't want to play against us," he added.

Team India's star wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is celebrating his 24th birthday on Monday (October 04). The Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper has been enjoying a stellar campaign in his debut season as the captain of the franchise and has already helped them to seal a spot in the playoffs in IPL 2021. Pant's DC are currently placed second on the points table with 18 points from 12 matches so far.

Not just on the IPL front but Pant has also enjoyed a fruitful year with the Indian cricket team across formats. From being ousted of the limited-overs formats last year to cementing his spot as the first-choice keeper-batsman across all formats, Pant has come a long way in 2021, in what has been a defining year for him.

Pant became a regular across all three formats after his impressive show in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 against Australia, which paved his way for a comeback in limited-overs. He has not looked back since and has been terrific as a leader of DC in IPL 2021 as well.

Wishes poured in from all corners as a number of his Indian teammates, former cricketers and other players took to Twitter to wish the 24-year-old on his birthday. KKR wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik came up with a cheeky wish, referring to an incident between him and Pant in his side's clash against DC this season where he was almost hit by the birthday boy while collecting a ball after his miscued shot.

"Happiest birthday to the one and only @RishabhPant17. An advice to all keepers, stay a foot away from the stump when he's batting," Karthik wrote in a tweet while sharing a picture of the incident.

Pant's Delhi Capitals will be up against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in their 13th match of IPL 2021 season on his birthday on Monday. Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs and the top spot on the points table will be on the line when they lock horns against each other. Both CSK and DC have 18 points each from 12 games so far but Dhoni's men are on the top on the basis of a superior net run rate.
