Team India's former chief selector MSK Prasad has batted for the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal in the country's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Chahal has not been named in India's squad for the T20 World Cup which was announced by the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel earlier this month. His exclusion came as a shock to many including Prasad, who feels the RCB star is one of the best T20 bowlers India have in their ranks.

Chahal's exclusion was a surprising one as the leg-spinner has been one of India's first-choice bowlers in the limited-overs format over the last few years. He has also been consistent in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

However, he was snubbed from the T20 World Cup squad after suffering a dip in performances in international cricket recently. He also had an average campaign in the India leg of the ongoing IPL 2021 but has bounced back to form once again in the UAE leg of the tournament.

Chahal has so far picked up seven wickets in just four matches in UAE and has bowled at an impressive economy rate of less than six. Prasad feels Chahal deserved a spot in the T20 World Cup squad and pointed out he has been effective even on flat tracks in Bengaluru - which is RCB's home ground in IPL.

“I think he is our best T20 bowler in terms of wickets. He has done superbly in the last 4-5 years. Fortunately, or unfortunately, what the selectors must have thought is the competition between Rahul Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal. On flat wickets like in Bangalore, he (Chahal) has never disappointed his captain Virat and he’s always given you wickets,” Prasad told Sports Tak.

India have several options when it comes to the spin department in their T20 World Cup squad with the likes of Rahul Chahar, Axar Patel, &nbsp;Varun Chakravarthy, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in their ranks. Prasad feels Chahal's dip came at the wrong time for him while Rahul Chahar's performances for Mumbai Indians convinced the selectors to pick him over the senior spinner in the T20 World Cup squad.

“But if you see his performance in the last year, year and a half, there is a little dip in his performance. Rahul Chahar on the other hand has played an important role in winning back-to-back IPL titles for Mumbai Indians. Probably that went on Chahar’s favour,” Prasad explained.

Legendary Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis has made a bold prediction ahead of the much-awaited blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. The arch-rivals will lock horns in their campaign opener at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. Ahead of the clash, Younis has touted Pakistan to beat India if Babar Azam &amp; Co. play to their potential in the opening encounter.

Arch-rivals Indian and Pakistan, which have not played a bilateral series since 2013, meet only in major ICC events. Thus, any encounter between the two sides becomes an intriguing affair with millions across the world glued to their television screens to watch the two teams in action against each other. India and Pakistan have been drawn in Group 2 at T20 World Cup 2021 which also features New Zealand and Afghanistan.

"I honestly believe that Pakistan can beat India in their opening encounter if they play to their potential. It won’t be easy but we certainly have the personnel who can come good," Younis told CricWick when asked about Pakistan's chances against India at the T20 World Cup this year.

A clash between India and Pakistan also brings in a lot of pressure for the players from both sides with expectations at an all-time high. Younis believes it will be crucial for both teams to nullify the pressure well and get the better of their opposition.

"It's a big game and pressure will be on both teams as it will be their first match of the tournament. But the first few deliveries and runs will be crucial but if we are able to negotiate it well we can win the game," the former Pakistan pacer added.

India are unbeaten against Pakistan so far in both T20 and ODI World Cups. India have met Pakistan five times in the T20 World Cup and have won in all five meetings. The last meeting between the two sides came at the ODI World Cup in 2019 where India hammered Pakistan by 89 runs via the DLS method.

Pakistan can beat India: Waqar Younis makes bold prediction ahead of T20 World Cup clash

Indian cricket team's head coach Ravi Shastri has hailed MS Dhoni as the greatest white-ball captain ever. Dhoni is one of the most successful captains to have led India and achieved tremendous success across all formats. It was under his captaincy that India became the no.1 Test team in the world for the first time before he led the Men in Blue to an ODI World Cup victory after an agonising wait of 28 years.

Dhoni, who led India to numerous memorable victories across the globe, remains the only captain in the world to have won all three major ICC limited-overs trophies as a skipper. He led India to a T20 World Cup victory in 2007 before inspiring them to ODI World Cup victory and Champions Trophy triumph in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Hailing Dhoni as the greatest ever white-ball skipper, Shastri said the former India captain won everything there was to be and is the 'King Kong'.

“Dhoni is the greatest white-ball captain ever. Just look at his record in ICC tournaments. What has he not won? IPL, Champions League, all ICC tournaments, two World Cups. There is no one close to him when it comes to white-ball cricket. He has to be the greatest. The King Kong, you can call him in that fashion," Shastri told&nbsp;Fan Code in an interview.

Dhoni retired from international cricket last year after playing 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is in an international career filled with glorious victories. Lauding the calm and composed attitude of the former India captain, Shastri hailed Dhoni's leadership qualities and said there is a feeling of composure and control when he leads a team.

“When you see Dhoni captaining a side, and you see Chennai Super Kings (CSK), there’s that assurance and calmness of things in control. The other side might be whacking sixes or fours but you still get the feeling there is this composure and control,” said Shastri.

While Dhoni has retired from international cricket, he continues to play for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Dhoni-led CSK became the first team to qualify for IPL 2021 playoffs after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets on Thursday (September 30).

Dhoni will be returning to the Indian dressing room for the first time since his retirement as a mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE. He will be working with head coach Shastri and other members of the Indian team's support staff during the T20 World Cup 2021.

'The King Kong': India head Ravi Shastri calls MS Dhoni the greatest white-ball captain ever

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in the history of cricket. An encounter between the two arch-rivals is always a blockbuster affair with millions cheering for the two sides. However, the two teams have not played any bilateral cricket for over eight years now due to political tensions between the two nations.

India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series against each other in 2013 and have since met only at major ICC events. The two teams last played a bilateral series in January 2013 when Pakistan toured India for a limited-overs series consisting of two&nbsp;T20Is and three ODIs.

Despite efforts, the two cricket boards have not agreed to play bilateral cricket against each other so far which has cost Pakistan millions of dollars, feels former England captain Michael Atherton. Pakistan have also had to play the majority of their home matches in the UAE post the attack on the Sri Lankan team's bus in Lahore in 2009.

"Pakistan's inability to play India in bilateral events has cost them hundreds of millions of dollars in the past decade, or how being in exile in the UAE for nearly a decade cost significant amounts of financial and psychological capital," Atherton wrote in his column for The Times.

Artherton further pointed out how Pakistan have been the most frequent travellers&nbsp;by a distance in the COVID-19 era where most teams have refrained from playing a lot of away matches. Pakistan have toured England, Australia, and West Indies among others to play series in bio-bubbles amidst COVID-19.

Pakistan have played the most number of matches away from home since Covid struck, by some distance," Atherton&nbsp;wrote.

Recently, New Zealand abandoned their tour of Pakistan while England also confirmed that won't be sending their teams to the country. The decisions from the two boards came as a major jolt to PCB, which is staring at huge losses for being unable to host the two series at home.

Pakistan's inability to play bilateral cricket against India has cost them millions of dollars: Former England captain

Rohit Sharma, India's limited-overs vice-captain, has vowed to take Virat Kohli-led Team India to the T20 World Cup title, which will be held soon after IPL 2021's conclusion in the UAE. Rohit is the only player from the current setup who was also part of the victorious MS Dhoni-led team, who won the inaugural edition in 2007.

Under Dhoni, not many gave India any chance but the spirited Men in Blue beat the likes of Pakistan, England, South Africa and Australia to emerge on top in the inaugural edition. Ahead of Kohli &amp; Co.'s campaign in the forthcoming World Cup, Hitman shared a motivational post recalling the 2007 edition's success and aims to bring back the trophy for the one-time winners this time around.

Who would have thought back then that a relatively inexperienced, young team like ours would end up creating history!! It's been 14 years since, we've come a long way, we've created many more histories, we've had our setbacks, we struggled, but it didn't break our spirits. Because we never give up. We give it all!!!

This @icc #T20WorldCup each one of us is going to give everything to repeat history. We're coming for it. India, let's make it happen. I am #InItToWinIt"

Ahead of Kohli & Co.'s campaign in the forthcoming World Cup, Hitman shared a motivational post recalling the 2007 edition's success and aims to bring back the trophy for the one-time winners this time around. Rohit Sharma vows to guide Virat Kohli-led India to T20 WC glory while recalling MS Dhoni & Co.'s success in 2007

Former captain MS Dhoni will be returning to the Indian cricket team's dressing room for the first time since retiring from international cricket last year. Dhoni will be making his comeback in the Indian dressing room as a mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli-led team India will start as one of the title favourites at the T20 World Cup this year and Dhoni's addition to the dressing room is expected to further boost the team's chances of returning home with the elusive trophy. While many have hailed BCCI's decision to appoint an experienced campaigner like Dhoni as a mentor for the team for the showpiece event, some have also raised questions over his appointment.

Responding to questions about whether Dhoni's appointment can create a conflict of interest and lead to a difference of opinion in the dressing room with head coach Ravi Shastri already in charge, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said the former captain's arrival is not to undermine anyone.

Explaining the reason behind BCCI's decision to appoint Dhoni as the team's mentor, Dhumal said the former India captain's pedigree is second to none when it comes to winning major tournaments. Dhoni remains the only captain in the world to have won all three major ICC limited-overs trophies - T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011) and the Champions Trophy in 2013.

"He (Dhoni) has been a great leader. Under his captaincy, India won the inaugural World Twenty20, the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups, the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Records are amazing. It is really great to have him as a mentor of the team," Dhumal told&nbsp;India Ahead.

"He has a good reputation and respect in the team, and also bringing him doesn't mean to undermine anybody. They have also done a phenomenal job," he added.

Dhumal also spoke about&nbsp;Virat Kohli's decision to step down as the T20I skipper of the team and confirmed that it was entirely the Indian captain's decision. Dhumal confirmed that BCCI didn't force Kohli to step down as captain from the shortest format of the game.

"The board didn't ask him to step down. It was absolutely his own decision. Why would we ask him to step down? He was doing a great job," said Dhumal.

Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal has once again targeted the Indian selectors over some major snubs in the country's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Jindal took to Twitter to raise questions over the 18-man T20 World Cup squad selected by the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel.

BCCI had announced the T20 World Cup squad earlier this month with a number of big names failing to make the cut. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal among others failed to make the cut, raising several eyebrows. Dhawan has been in stellar touch in the ongoing IPL 2021 and is currently the second-highest run-getter so far this season with 430 runs in ten matches.

Chahal, on the other hand, has returned to form after struggling in the first leg of the tournament in India earlier this year. The leg spinner picked up a three-wicket haul as Royal Challengers Bangalore decimated Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Chahal has nine wickets in 10 matches so far.&nbsp;

The selectors also kept former DC captain and star batsman Shreyas Iyer out of the main squad and included him in the reserves for the T20 World Cup. Iyer has looked in great touch since his return from injury in IPL 2021 this year. Expressing his disappointment over the major snubs, DC co-owner Jindal questioned the selectors through a couple of tweets on Monday.

“The selectors must be wondering why they made some of the decisions they did – our T20 World Cup squad doesn’t have some of our best batsman – any guesses who? @DelhiCapitals @BCCI," he wrote in a tweet.

“India’s best spinner in T20 is missing too!!@BCCIdomestic @RCBTweets,” Jindal said in another tweet.

Must be wondering why they made some of the decisions they did: DC co-owner questions selectors over India's T20 World Cup squad

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is all set to step down as the T20 captain of the Men in Blue post the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE this year. Kohli had announced his decision to step down as T20 captain ahead of the start of the ongoing second leg of IPL 2021 in UAE. He will be also stepping down as the captain of his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore after the end of the current season.

Kohli was appointed India's captain across all three formats in 2017, taking over from former captain MS Dhoni. Under him, India have won some memorable series both at home and overseas and also made it to the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup, and the final of the World Test Championship earlier this year. However, India are yet to win a major ICC trophy under Kohli.

With back-to-back T20 World Cups set to be staged in 2021 and 2022, Kohli has decided to continue as a pure batsman in the shortest format while leading the team in ODIs and Tests. BCCI is yet to announce India's next T20I captain with Rohit Sharma likely to take over from Kohli.

Legendary batsman and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has picked Rohit Sharma as the ideal replacement for Kohli while naming KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as potential candidates to become the Indian team's next vice-captain in T20Is. Rohit is currently India's vice-captain in T20Is and ODIs.

"Definitely, Rohit Sharma for the next World Cup. With World Cups back-to-back, you don't want too many changes in captaincy. I am looking at KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the Indian team. I would also keep Rishabh Pant in mind," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Both Rahul and Pant are leading their respective franchises in the ongoing IPL 2021. While Rahul is the skipper of Punjab Kings, Pant has been leading Delhi Capitals, who currently sit on the second spot on the points table with 16 points from ten matches.

Also Read: Did he bowl fast or slow? India could play one Test match in England next year, says a report by ESPNCricinfo. The one Test match could replace the fifth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester which was cancelled due to Indian team unable to field an eleven after assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar tested positive for COVID-19.

It is understood that a space in England`s schedule in 2022 has been agreed to be kept for the Test. There are thoughts of the one Test likely to complete the 2021 Test series which India currently lead 2-1.

"It has not been confirmed at this stage whether the match will be a standalone game or complete the series started in August, but it will avert the majority of financial losses incurred by the ECB due to the abandonment in Manchester. It may also avert any further disagreements between the ECB and the BCCI about the reasons for the abandonment and who should take responsibility for it," further said the report.

It also said that discussions earlier had included a possibility of the one Test being replaced by two T20Is. With India already scheduled to tour England next year as part of a white-ball tour, it would have been more suitable for the visitors.

The report also said that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has received a proposal from Cricket Australia (CA) on their plans for the tourists during the Ashes, scheduled to begin in Brisbane from December 8.

While the details of the plans are unclear, it is understood that the schedule, which includes details on quarantine arrangements and bio-secure bubbles throughout the trip, are better than what had been feared. It also means a probability of fewer withdrawals from the England squad for the Ashes.

India could play abandoned Manchester Test against England next year: Reports

&nbsp;It was on this day, 14 years ago, when MS Dhoni-led India emerged triumphant in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup played in South Africa. The summit clash was played between India and Pakistan at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. In the match against Pakistan, India won the toss and opted to bat first.

Virender Sehwag was ruled out of the match due to an injury and as a result, Yusuf Pathan and Gautam Gambhir came out to open the batting. Yusuf Pathan (15) hit one four and one six to let India get off to a flier, but he was sent back to the pavilion by Mohammad Asif in the third over. Robin Uthappa (8) was also sent back cheaply, and as a result, India was reduced to 40/2.

Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh then retrieved the innings for India as the duo put on 63 runs for the fourth wicket. The Men in Blue, however, kept on losing wickets at regular intervals after the departure of Yuvraj (14) in the 14th over. However, Gambhir managed to hold the fort for the Dhoni-led side and he went on to play a knock of 75 from just 54 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes.

In the end, Rohit Sharma played a cameo of 30 runs off just 16 balls to take India`s total to 157/5. Defending 157, India came out all guns blazing as Pakistan was reduced to 77/6 with all their big guns like Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik sent back to the pavilion. But, Misbah-ul-Haq did not give up hope and he started hammering Indian bowlers all around the park and brought the equation really close for Pakistan.

In the final over, Pakistan needed 13 to win and Dhoni opted for Joginder Sharma to bowl the six deliveries. Misbah hammered the second delivery of the over for a six, and India`s hope of winning the match looked glim. However, on the third delivery of the over, Misbah went for a scoop shot only to hand a simple catch to Sreesanth. As a result, India won the finals by five runs and took home the coveted T20 trophy.

After this, Dhoni went on to lift two more ICC trophies -- 50-over World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2013. Yuvraj Singh was the standout performer for India in the 2007 T20 World Cup as he hit six 6s in an over bowled by England`s Stuart Broad. Mumbai Indians (MI) have dearly missed the presence of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the ongoing second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the UAE after facing back-to-back losses. Mumbai Indians got off to a stuttering start with a loss against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their opening game of the UAE leg before succumbing to a crushing defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their second game on Thursday.

Hardik, who is one of the vital cogs in the Mumbai Indians squad has so far missed both their games since the resumption of the IPL 2021 season. Hardik is recovering from an injury and is expected to return to the playing XI for Mumbai Indians' next game against Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. MI bowling coach Shane Bond provided a crucial update regarding the all-rounder's comeback post the team's loss to KKR on Thursday.

Bond said Mumbai Indians are balancing their own needs and keeping team India's needs in mind while dealing with Hardik's workload in the ongoing second leg of IPL 2021. Hardik is part of India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 this year and is touted to play a massive role for the Men in Blue with the bat and the ball.

"Hardik is training well. He trained today (Thursday) and he is getting closer to playing. We are balancing the needs of our team along with the needs of Team India as well. This franchise looks after its players. We are hopeful that Hardik will be back for the next match, he trained well on Thursday," Bond said during the post-match press conference after MI's defeat against KKR.

"It is not a hard directive, you have a duty towards the players. You have to look after them, like anything you have to balance everything and you have to balance what the player wants. One thing our franchise does is look after our players. There is no point in rushing him back, you do not want him to get injured and miss rest of the tournament when we have a chance to win it," he added.

In Hardik's absence, Mumbai slipped to their second straight defeat on Thursday. Batting first, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. got off to a good start with a 78-run stand between openers Rohit (33) and Quinton de Kock (55). However, the middle-order faltered as KKR pacers restricted the defending champions on 155.

In reply, KKR chased down the target comfortably with as many as 4.5 overs to spare. Venkatesh Iyer continued his impressive run as an opener and notched up his maiden half-century, smashing 53 off 30 balls while Rahul Tripathi scored a sublime unbeaten 74 off 42 deliveries to help KKR bag a 7-wicket win and make it two wins in a row in the UAE leg of the tournament.

Ravi Shastri is set to step down as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He has hinted that he will not seek an extension of his contract after his tenure ends at the conclusion of the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman this year in November.&nbsp;

"I believe one thing – never overstay your welcome. And I would say that, in terms of what I wanted to get out of the side, I've over-achieved," Shastri said in an interview with The Guardian.&nbsp;

Team India's tour of New Zealand has now been pushed to late 2022 due to the cramped cricketing schedule. The Kane Williamson-led Black Caps were set to host India over the summer but the tour has been postponed and will now be held after the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia.&nbsp;

For the unversed, the WTC finalists India and New Zealand were set to lock horns in a 3-ODI series, a part of the ODI World Cup Super League for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The T20 World Cup planned for India between October 18-November 15 could move to the United Arab Emirates if the Covid-19 circumstance in the nation doesn't improve. Albeit the Indian cricket board, BCCI hasn't surrendered any expectations of facilitating it, taking the Cup to the UAE is the alternate course of action, and not a trade with Australia, who will have the 2022 T20 World Cup.

“It’s too early to say what will happen. But the contingency plan is that it would go to UAE with the hosting rights staying with BCCI,” said Dhiraj Malhotra - BCCI and the tournament director of the World Cup.

Before the most recent flood in Covid contaminations in the country, BCCI had shortlisted Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamsala, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow as the nine host venues. In any case, the seriousness of the second influx of contaminations has caused colossal worry with India's wellbeing foundation going under a ton of strain.

The Indian board has no alternative except to trust that the wellbeing circumstance will improve and travel boycotts forced by a few nations to be lifted before they would like to arrange the world occasion. It is perceived that occurs, keeping the World Cup in India without spectators would be the favored alternative before they settle on the emergency course of action.&nbsp;

The T20 World Cup this year will be a 16-team affair with teams to declare their squads one month before the tournament. There are four grounds in the UAE where global matches can be facilitated, and should the need emerge that choice will be actuated. The eight-team IPL was effectively arranged in the UAE a year ago.

Following India’s stunning clean-sweep of the England tour where the Virat Kohli-led outfit won the Test, T20I and ODI series, former Australia captain Ian Chappell has sounded a warning to other teams&nbsp;saying India are on their way to dominance.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chappell is of the view that the emergence of young talents well equipped to take on the world’s best strikes a note of&nbsp;fear. The former Aussie skipper heaped praise on the Indian team while lauding their ability and confidence to fight in overseas conditions as well.&nbsp;

“India’s recent successes in Australia – particularly the latest one – have only reinforced the players’ belief in their ability to win under any circumstance. In an era where teams struggle overseas, India now has the depth of talent to alter that pattern. No longer can opponents afford to say, when India&nbsp;are&nbsp;on their doorstep, ‘Just pick a string of fast bowlers with long run-ups and the series will be ours’,” Chappell wrote in his column at&nbsp;ESPNcricinfo.&nbsp;

Chappell then answered one of the most asked questions, can India carry on with their dominance for&nbsp;years?:&nbsp;&nbsp;“‘Can India replicate the dominant periods of West Indies and Australia?’: “India have finally got the equation right and as long as they avoid the pitfalls often associated with continuing success, they are better equipped than any team to produce an era of dominance. The rest of the cricketing world beware. The emergence of such talents as Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Washington Sundar, T Natarajan, and&nbsp;Axar&nbsp;Patel would have been monumental if it had happened in the space of three years, let alone just three months as it did.&nbsp;

“And when you consider that Shardul Thakur excelled in just his second game and the ebullient Rishabh Pant was an international match-winner before his 20th appearance, it really is a rosy picture. A rosy picture, that is, if you’re an Indian fan; for the rest of the cricket world, it strikes a note of fear,” Chappell concluded.&nbsp;

"What I really love about Team India is that Virat Kohli doesn't find any excuses. That's what I really love about his captaincy, he took the blame for everything. He said the bowlers didn't find the right areas, the batsmen were not as consistent. He said 'we got to go back to the drawing board and come back'. WATCH: Olympic medalist Yohan Blake praises Indian cricket team and Virat Kohli

Ajinkya Rahane's terrific captaincy record has started discussions on captaincy style with fans and&nbsp;former cricketers comparing his leadership traits with full-time Indian captain Virat Kohli. While Rahane led Team India to a historic&nbsp;Test series win over Australia recently, Kohli will be back in-charge in the home series against England. A crucial cog in&nbsp;the&nbsp;Indian side, Ravichandran Ashwin&nbsp;has now opened up about the captaincy style between Kohli and Rahane.&nbsp;

Rahane's calm and composed demeanour was lauded by many while his aggressive bowling and fielding changes&nbsp;helped India come back to the series to win it 2-1. However, Kohli's&nbsp;'in&nbsp;your face' and expressive approach have helped India win&nbsp;33 Test matches out of 56 in which Kohli has led Team India.&nbsp;

Ashwin, talking about Rahane and Kohli's captaincy, said that a captain and his achievements can be only good as the team while adding the Indian cricket team, in the past, has enjoyed great results due to quality players in the dressing room.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The veteran Indian spinner further said there is not much difference in the duo's captaincy style. Ashwin said that while Kohli is more expressive&nbsp;and communicative, Rahane is much quieter than him.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Rahane has led India in about five Tests and Kohli much more and that’s the first difference. I am totally blown away by the kind of comparisons people like to make when it comes to captaincy. All along it was about MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli and their styles of leadership. I feel this Indian team has had some wonderful results in the past because of quality players and human beings in the dressing room. Virat and Rahane have been captain and vice-captain for as long as I can remember now. They lend great balance to the team,” Ashwin said.&nbsp;

We have played under Jinks in the Dharamshala Test (Against Oz in 2017) and then the Test against Afghanistan and we know what to expect. How are Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane different as captains? R Ashwin gives his take

He "aged 10 years in about one hour" thanks to Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar. Team India's long-serving fielding coach R Sridhar was in the thick of things as side battled adversity after adversity before their "unreal" Test series win over a mighty Australia.

And in an exclusive conversation with PTI, he opened up about the emotional roller-coaster that the tour was. "When Rishabh and Washy (Washington Sundar) were batting, I wasn't able to cope up with tension," Sridhar said after reaching his home in Hyderabad, still trying to calm the nerves after that surreal final day in Brisbane.

"My heart rate was 120 on fitness app and couldn't help telling Rohit that main ek ghante mein 10 saal buddha ho gaya," he joked. An integral part of the Indian team set-up, Sridhar opened about the tour in an elaborate chat, asserting it will be difficult to surpass what the team went through in the past one month -- from hitting the nadir to reaching the zenith.

He touched upon the many highlights of the intense trip -- from coach Ravi Shastri's inspiring speech after the 36 all-out disaster in Adelaide to Hanuma Vihari's "miracle" batting at Sydney to the stunner in Brisbane.

<h2>36 all out and the aftermath:</h2>

"After 36 all-out, you didn't know what's next. Then Ravi (Shastri) bhai gathered the team and said: 'Wear this 36 like a badge on your sleeves and you will be a great team'. "After 40 days, it was gospel truth. Also we had five meetings in two days after the Adelaide Test finished on the third evening. Virat (Kohli), Jinks (Ajinkya Rahane) and the coaching staff discussed combination and Virat gave some lovely suggestions for the MCG Test before leaving.

"I don't think there could have been a better execution in Melbourne," he recalled the events leading up to the turnaround in Melbourne, where India won to draw level.

<h2>Hanuma Vihari and the Sydney Heist:</h2>

"At tea time in Sydney, Vihari had his feet stretched wide as Nitin Patel strapped his hamstring and other physio administered painkillers. I went up to him and told Vihari, 'You owe the next two hours to your team as this team has backed you at every juncture.'

"...And after those 250 balls when he came back, he could barely walk, he fell down on the chair as I went to hug him. He said: 'Sir you asked for it. This is the best I could do in this situation.' I could just mutter 'thank you.' Sridhar said Vihari's fitness took a hit as he wasn't a part of the IPL like most other Indian players last year.

"His hamstring injury is multi-factorial. Firstly, he wasn't playing IPL like others, so general fitness level was a bit less than other guys which I told him and then he stood at short leg for three Tests which also contributed to injury. But what he did in Sydney gave us belief that we could do it in Brisbane.

"Vihari is an intense, young man. He is not your normal, jovial kind of a guy. He can go into a shell very soon, and that's his strength also and it helped him in Sydney. "Despite being on heavy dose of painkillers, which could make you a bit drowsy, he actually pulled off a miracle in Sydney. So when we got there in Brisbane, we had the belief that we could do it."

<h2>The Brisbane Chase on final day:</h2>

"We didn't want to complicate anything with Rishabh and Washy and it was their own plan. They had very valid excellent plan which was based on their abilities and belief. "When you see what they were executing, the last thing you want to do is send in information and at such times, less is more. Ajinkya and Ravi bhai said, 'Just leave these two alone. Whatever happens, we would take it, we came so far brilliantly'."

<h2>T Natarajan didn't carry his bat or pads to the tour:</h2>

"You know Nattu didn't carry a bat. He had his bowling spikes and trainers because he came as a net bowler and was supposed to bowl. He had to borrow one from either Washy or Ash (R Ashwin) when he was named in the squad.

"But that was the beauty. He was not any usual net bowler. (Strength and Conditioning coach) Nick Webb and (trainer) Soham (Desai) had proper strength and conditioning plan for all our net bowlers and they were an integral part of dressing room."

<h2>Talent called Washington:&nbsp;</h2>

"We kept him here after white ball games because we didn't want Ash to bowl too much at the nets but Nathan Lyon was always going to be an integral part of the Aussie line-up so we needed our batsmen to get net sessions.

"We used Washy to bowl into the rough. When Washy would bowl to our top order at nets, I would go and tell him 'Washy, give the ball over-spin because that's the need of the hour on Australian pitches, up (pitching it up) and over spin as you have to put your whole body behind the ball, because it requires energy.'

"We would tell Washy, that you may not be the lead off-spinner, but when India come back again in 2025, who knows you might be leading the spin attack with Kuldeep. Also even when he was not in original squad, he would bat for 30 minutes every day."

<h2>Leadership will now be known as 'Ravi Ship':</h2>

"Before the Brisbane Test started, Ravi bhai had one mantra, 'Nattu is no less than (Jasprit) Bumrah and Washy is no less than Ashwin, and that will be your mindset'. If you two are crossing that boundary line wearing that India cap, you are no less than the person next to you.

"Please quote me, it is unfair that you needed India's greatest Test victory to understand Ravi Shastri's contribution to Indian cricket. He was Indian cricket's 'Go To Man', when NCA needed restructuring in 2007, when IPL was conceptualised, when India needed a stop gap coach in 2007 after the World Cup exit, and also in 2014 when a Team Director was needed."

<h2>And finally, a Champagne spray and game of TT:</h2>

We had a flight next morning. So first we had to pack our bags and then we went to the team room for celebration. 90 per cent people don't drink so it was just spraying champagne and then some games of table tennis which the boys enjoyed.

Inside Team Room: Wear that 36 all out like a badge, R Sridhar recalls 'Raviship' and more

“If you look at the last three years, we [Indian cricket team] have won nine matches overseas and three series (against West Indies and twice in Sri Lanka). I can't see any other Indian team in the last 15-20 years that have had the same run in such a short time, and you have had some great players playing in those series. So the promise is there, and it's just about getting tougher mentally,” Indian head coach Ravi Shastri had said about the Indian team with beaming pride in 2018 just after England handed a painful 4-1 Test series defeat.

In July 2017, Ravi Shastri was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble (former Indian head coach)&nbsp;didn’t get together well enough, which resulted in the latter resigning from his post – a saga well documented in public.&nbsp;

Since Shastri’s appointment, India have defeated Sri Lanka (home and away), South Africa (home), the West Indies (home and away), Bangladesh (home), Afghanistan (one-off Test at home) and Australia (away) but have suffered glaring defeats against England (away), South Africa (away) and New Zealand (away).

The latest addition into the matches India have played under Shastri’s tenure as head coach is the Adelaide Horror, where the Virat Kohli-led visitors were skittled out for 36 runs in the second innings with none of the batters managing to get to double digits.

India may well go onto turn the tables and win the series (a mammoth task)&nbsp;but the scars of 36 have been etched into the hearts of the Indian cricket fans forever.&nbsp;

Ravi Shastri has always sounded bullish about Indian team and the talent it possesses, no second thought about it because it is indeed a supremely talented bunch of players. The bowling attack is arguably the best Indian team has had so far in their history. The batting unit led by Virat Kohli consists of quality players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari – all of them have stood out in some series or another but the questions remain; is this Indian team utilizing its potential collectively? When will Ravi Shastri and co. start producing results overseas? Why does India often get tactically outclassed on foreign soil?

India have been dominating home series and that has been the case for long, long before Ravi Shastri. The 2-1 Border Gavaskar Trophy win in 2018-19 was historic, no shadow of doubt about it. Then Australia were without David Warner and Steve Smith, and India pounced on each and every opportunity that came towards them in the series and registered their first-ever Test series win on Australian soil and became the first Asian side to do so. Fair enough. But did the Indian team utilize the momentum and became a better side? No.

Let’s not even go back to Freedom Trophy, when India visited South Africa in 2017-18 or even the Pataudi Trophy, when India visited England in 2018. India lost both the series. Some will say due to poor reading of conditions, many will say India were tactically and technically outclassed by the hosts.&nbsp;

Just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, India were humiliated by New Zealand and ended up losing the series 2-0. Completely dominated and outclassed by the Kane Williamson-led outfit. Then the pandemic struck and the series drubbing slowly took a backseat amid the chaos of daily life. However, the Adelaide Horror has freshened up the sour memories and fans are asking, what is Ravi Shastri doing to get this talented bunch of players up and running in full flow?

<img alt="Virat Kohli" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="8b9744d3-6c89-487c-a62c-5ed4b16e9117" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/000_8XF4TE.jpg" />

The current Indian squad is pretty much similar to when it visited Down Under in 2018-19. So what went so wrong in Adelaide? The pink-ball? India got ample practice including a warm-up game to gear up for the game. Or is the Indian cricket team bearing the weight of being clueless on the tactical front, especially when it comes to batting? The same old road map which was torn apart by the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon in Adelaide.&nbsp;

<img alt="Mayank Agarwal" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="152d4b6a-318c-4bbb-b454-f3c2d2650a6d" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/000_8XF628.jpg" />

Shastri was handed a contract extension in June 2019, until the ICC World Cup 2021. But has the head coach of the Indian cricket team justified his role and position by suffering defeats after defeats in away series (barring Australia 2018-19) against major opposition?&nbsp;

Good vocabulary and booming voice may sound good in the commentary box or in press conferences - where Ravi Shastri is generally not seen after series defeats. But when it comes to the Indian cricket team, the fans demand result, which in all fairness, has been a disappointing course under Shastri’s tenure - be it in away series or in ICC tournaments. And let’s not even discuss the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-final, where the Indian team was left shattered and clueless by New Zealand bowlers.&nbsp;

The Indian cricket team is well capable of coming back strong. These players are a talented bunch. New faces will come in. Players who underperform are often mercilessly cropped out but what about the underperforming head coach of the Indian team? Is there an answer now or will India wait till three forthcoming World Cups, in 2021, 22 and 23? Or if everyone is content with India thrashing Sri Lanka, West Indies or Bangladesh (with all due respect to these teams), then let it be.&nbsp;

No. Let’s not even go back to Freedom Trophy, when India visited South Africa in 2017-18 or even the Pataudi Trophy, when India visited England in 2018. India lost both the series. Some will say due to poor reading of conditions, many will say India were tactically and technically outclassed by the hosts. ALSO READ: Warne vs Tendulkar, 'Monkeygate': 5 classic Australia vs India encounters Just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, India were humiliated by New Zealand and ended up losing the series 2-0. The current Indian squad is pretty much similar to when it visited Down Under in 2018-19. So what went so wrong in Adelaide? The pink-ball? India got ample practice including a warm-up game to gear up for the game. Or is the Indian cricket team bearing the weight of being clueless on the tactical front, especially when it comes to batting? The same old road map which was torn apart by the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon in Adelaide. Shastri was handed a contract extension in June 2019, until the ICC World Cup 2021. But has the head coach of the Indian cricket team justified his role and position by suffering defeats after defeats in away series (barring Australia 2018-19) against major opposition? Good vocabulary and booming voice may sound good in the commentary box or in press conferences - where Ravi Shastri is generally not seen after series defeats. But when it comes to the Indian cricket team, the fans demand result, which in all fairness, has been a disappointing course under Shastri’s tenure - be it in away series or in ICC tournaments. And let’s not even discuss the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-final, where the Indian team was left shattered and clueless by New Zealand bowlers. The Indian cricket team is well capable of coming back strong. These players are a talented bunch. New faces will come in. Players who underperform are often mercilessly cropped out but what about the underperforming head coach of the Indian team? Is there an answer now or will India wait till three forthcoming World Cups, in 2021, 22 and 23? Or if everyone is content with India thrashing Sri Lanka, West Indies or Bangladesh (with all due respect to these teams), then let it be.

Players will go out, new faces will come in. But what about Mr Ravi Shastri?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to include players with 10 T20I matches in its Central Contracts. The move comes with T20 cricket getting more and more popular with each tournament and series across the world.&nbsp;

As per a report in The Indian Express, the BCCI has introduced a change in the regulations as far as the Central Contract system is concerned. Earlier, the proposal to consider players with T20I caps was made during the tenure of Committee of Administrator’s tenure before it was turned down.&nbsp;

Thus far, only players with a minimum of three Tests or seven ODIs in a year were eligible for Central Contracts.&nbsp;

“The board has decided to change the old clause and add a new one where a player who’s played a minimum of ten T20 games in a year can be given a central contract. In the new contract signed by players, this clause was included. If there’s any specialist T20 player, he should not be deprived of a central contract because his speciality is the shortest format,” a source told The Indian Express.

In 2019, Washington Sundar was awarded a Central Contract despite him playing only T20I cricket for India so far in his career. However, this year many more players could be rewarded.

The Central Contract system of the BCCI has four categories. A+ gets 7 crores, A gets 5 crores, B gets 3 crores and C gets 1 crore. The ace players playing all the formats are the ones who get A+ category.
