Former India cricketer Sandeep Patil has lashed out at the national selectors for picking all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the T20 World Cup 2021 squad despite him not bowling for his side Mumbai Indians in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the UAE. Hardik didn't bowl due to back issues during the second leg of IPL 2021.

However, he was selected in the T20 World Cup 2021 squad as a pure batter and was also part of India's playing for the much-anticipated game against Pakistan on October 24. Hardik picked up a shoulder injury during the game and looked uncomfortable while batting as he could only manage 11 runs off 8 balls before being dismissed.

A number of experts have questioned his spot in the playing XI despite him not bowling for Team India. Former cricketer Patil said selectors should not have gone for him if he was not fit and that the all-rounder should have undergone a fitness test before being picked.

“His selection in the XI is up to the captain and the coach, and only the BCCI will know about it. But basically, if a player is not fit, then it comes to the selectors. If he didn’t bowl in the entire IPL, the selectors should have taken a call. They should have asked for a fitness test before including him in the team for the World Cup,” Patil was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

“Someone has to be accountable. There’s no comment from (India coach) Ravi Shastri. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane said that he’s fit. How can you say he’s fit, if he became unfit during the match? I mean, this is the World Cup, not just any series or match,” he added.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has lashed out at people bursting crackers in the country after Virat Kohl-led Team India's loss against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has lashed out at people bursting crackers in the country after Virat Kohl-led Team India's loss against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021. India suffered their maiden defeat against Pakistan in a World Cup game as they went down by ten wickets at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (October 24). It was a comprehensive victory for Pakistan, who chased down the target of 152 runs without losing a single wicket with the help of an unbeaten stand from openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. However, in the aftermath of Pakistan's win, reports of crackers being burst in different parts of India surfaced. Some also took to social media to share videos of crackers being burst in different areas. Reacting to the incidents, Gambhir, who is a cricketer-turned-politician, said those celebrating Pakistan's win against India can't call themselves Indians while adding that it is absolutely unacceptable. “It's shameful. You live in a country and are called an Indian but when another country wins or Pakistan wins, you start bursting crackers. This is absolutely unacceptable. People who have burst those crackers, cannot call themselves Indians,” Gambhir told India Today. Those bursting crackers on Pak winning can’t be Indian! We stand by our boys! #Shameful — Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) October 25, 2021 × A section of tolls on social media has also targeted several Indian players after the team's loss against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Virender Sehwag reacts to firecrackers being burst in 'parts of India' to celebrate Pakistan's win in T20 WC

The countdown for the biggest spectacle in world cricket has begun as India gear up to take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a blockbuster encounter in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. The mother of all clashes will be played at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (October 24).

In what is expected to be a blockbuster encounter, Indian captain Virat Kohli will be up against Pakistan skipper Babar Azam for the first time in a World Cup. Babar, who was appointed Pakistan's captain across all three formats last year, will be looking to bring an end to his side's losing streak against the Men in Blue in World Cup matches.

India poses a flawless 12-0 record when it comes to World Cup meetings between the two sides. India have won all seven matches against Pakistan in ODI World Cup and have been unbeaten in five meetings against the Men in Green in the T20 World Cup so far.

While India are yet to be beaten by Pakistan in a World Cup encounter, the Men in Green are currently on a six-match unbeaten streak in T20Is in Dubai. Pakistan's winning streak in Dubai dates back to 2016. Babar & Co. will be eager to continue their winning run at the venue, which is considered Pakistan's second home.

India will be heading into the clash on a confident note after beating both England and Australia in their warm-up matches in the lead up to the high-pressure game against Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, beat West Indies comfortably in their first warm-up game before losing to South Africa in their second encounter. Also Read: T20 WC: Chakravarthy, Jadeja as two spinners? India and Pakistan have met on five occasions in the T20 World Cup so far with the Men in Blue defeating Pakistan in all five meetings. Treat it as a game, not war: Mohammad Kaif offers 'small advice' ahead of India-Pakistan clash in T20 WC 2021

Former India captain MS Dhoni has returned to the Indian dressing room for the first time since announcing his retirement from international cricket last year. Dhoni is in the UAE with the rest of the Indian squad as the team's mentor in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.

Dhoni, a two-time World Cup-winning captain and the only skipper to have won all three major ICC limited-overs trophies, will be helping the young Indian team in bringing an end to their ICC trophy drought since 2013. India's Champions Trophy triumph in England in 2013 was their last major ICC trophy which came under Dhoni's captaincy.

As Kohli aims to lift his first T20 World Cup title in what is set to be his last assignment as India's T20I captain, Dhoni's presence in the dressing room can play a crucial role in the team's success, feels former Australia head coach John Buchanan.

Buchanan is regarded as one of the best coaches in the world and helped the Australian team win two back-to-back ODI World Cups in 2003 and 2007 while also claiming their maiden Champions Trophy title in 2006. The ex-Aussie coach feels Dhoni is an incredible leader and his presence around the dressing room can be an asset for Team India in the T20 World Cup 2021 where pressure can easily get the better of players.

"Dhoni is just an incredible player and an incredible leader," Buchanan told WION.

"His presence is really important. He is a calming influence, he is good at summing out situations and pretty clear at what needs to be done. I am not suggesting that Virat Kohli is not doing that but it's nice to have that sort of presence around the dressing room when things might be a little bit emotional and are not going the right way. If Dhoni plays that sort of a role, which he would. Then I think he will be a real asset to that Indian dressing room," he explained.

'It's ours this time': Ranveer Singh reacts to Virat Kohli's post ahead of blockbuster Pakistan clash

Virat Kohli-led India are all set to open their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (October 24). While Pakistan have already announced their 12-man squad for the much-awaited clash, India have kept the cards close to their chest and are yet to give a hit about their playing XI.

Ahead of the clash against Pakistan, former India opener Virender Sehwag gave his take on the combination India should opt for in their playing XI against Babar Azam's men. There has been a debate surrounding all-rounder Hardik Pandya's place in the XI with doubts over his bowling.

Hardik did not bowl a single over for Mumbai Indians in the second leg of the recently-concluded IPL 2021 and is unlikely to bowl for India against Pakistan due to his back issues. With Shardul Thakur in the squad, many believe India should play Shardul instead of Hardik in the XI to have much-needed balance in the line-up.

However, Sehwag had backed Hardik to play as a pure batter and feels he can make the game one-sided for India if he manages to click with the willow. Sehwag said Hardik would be the first player he would pick in his playing XI for India against Pakistan.

"He'll be on my team. The kind of batter he is, if he clicks, he'll make the match one-sided, and finish it. He has the ability, which he has shown many times. Yes, if he was bowling fit, that would have been the icing on the cake...", Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

"You should go with five bowlers plus if Hardik Pandya or someone else from the top-order bowls a few overs, it'll be the perfect team for me... His batting is surely a concern. If he's not in form or not batting well in the nets, then you can maybe see another batter, otherwise, he'll be my first pick," he added.

India have a host of spinners in their squad with the likes of R Ashwin, Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy among others in their ranks. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue also have a potent pace attack consisting of the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul.

It remains to be seen what playing XI India will opt for in the mother of all clashes in the T20 World Cup 2021.

‘I was surprised’ – Sourav Ganguly opens up on Virat Kohli's decision to step down as India's T20I skipper

Veteran batter Robin Uthappa believes it won't matter to India captain Virat Kohli whether he wins the T20 World Cup as a skipper or a player.
"What has more value is as a player he still has a long way to go. Knowing Virat, I don't think it matters to him whether he wins as a captain or as a player. He just wants to win a World Cup and I think that's more important," Uthappa was quoted as saying by India Today.

MS Dhoni-led India had defeated Pakistan by five runs in a thrilling final to lift the T20 World Cup trophy during the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. It was a thrilling final played between the two arch-rivals which went down the wire with the result getting decided in the final over of the game.

Joginder Sharma was handed over the ball to bowl the final over for India in a tense situation with Misbah-ul-Haq going strong on one end. Misbah was nearing his half-century and was looking set to take Pakistan over the line before he was dismissed by Joginder in the final over. With six runs needed off the final four balls of the 20th over, Misbah tried scooping a delivery and was caught by S Sreesanth.

Recalling the thrilling finish to the epic final of the 2007 T20 World Cup, India's current limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who was part of the game, said Yuvraj Singh almost thought that Sreesanth would drop the decisive catch. Rohit revealed he was fielding at cover during the final over and saw Yuvraj turn around as Misbah played the shot.

“I was standing at covers that particular ball. Yuvi ( Yuvraj Singh )was at point. The moment Misbah played that shot, I saw Yuvi turning around. He was not watching because he thought he was going to drop it,” Rohit said in a video shared by ICC.

Team India will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in what promises to be a cracker of a game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday (October 24). The much-awaited clash between the two teams will be played at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, where Pakistan have a formidable record when it comes to the shortest format of the game.

A lot has been said about India's unbeaten streak against Pakistan in the cricket World Cup. The Men in Blue have a staggering advantage when it comes to the head to head record between the two teams in World Cups. India have never lost a game against Pakistan in an ODI or a T20 World Cup so far.

India enjoy a 12-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup history and will be aiming to keep the flawless streak intact when they take on Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai on Sunday (October 24).

However, India need to be wary of Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai, which can be considered Pakistan's second home when it comes to cricket. Pakistan's unbeaten streak in Dubai: Why India shouldn't take Babar Azam & Co. lightly in T20 WC 2021

India and Pakistan are all set to lock horns in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. The much-awaited clash will be staged at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Billions across the world will be glued to their TV screens when the two teams go up against each other.

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in cricketing history and a clash between the two sides is always a high-octane affair with expectations and pressure at an all-time high from both sides. Ahead of their meeting, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar opened up on the rivalry and said Indian cricketers are loved as much in Pakistan as they are in their own country.

Akhtar had a special mention for India's limited-overs vice-captain and star batsman Rohit Sharma, who he feels is liked more than Indian skipper Virat Kohli in Pakistan. The legendary fast bowler, who is an active pundit, said Rohit is known as India's Inzamam-ul-Haq in Pakistan.

“In Pakistan, people like and appreciate Indian cricketers. They praise Virat Kohli, they like Rohit Sharma even more. They call him India’s Inzamam,” Akhtar said on Zee News.

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif was also part of the discussion panel and picked India as favourites for their clash against Pakistan. While admitting that the result could go either way in a T20 game, Kaif said it will be a shocker for him if Pakistan manages to beat India in Dubai.

“Historically, India has always won these (World Cup) matches. But it depends on how the players perform on match day. The Indian side has an advantage that they just played the IPL in UAE and are accustomed to the conditions. Players are also in form. It would be a shocker if Pakistan wins. Of course, anything can happen in T20, but on paper, India appears to be a much stronger team,” said Kaif.

People call him India's Inzamam: Shoaib Akhtar names India star who is liked more than Virat Kohli in Pakistan

India are all set to lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in what promises to be a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. Ahead of the much-awaited clash between the two sides, former Pakistan all-rounder Mudassar Nazar has termed India favourites against Pakistan.

Nazar believes India are a formidable outfit and Pakistan don't stand a chance against Virat Kohli & Co. in the upcoming clash. The former Pakistan all-rounder stated that India are among the top three sides in the world at present.

"I don't think Pakistan has changed. It is India who have changed. India is in the forefront and among the three best sides in the world," Nazar, who played 76 Tests and 122 ODIs for Pakistan, was quoted as saying by AFP.

India and Pakistan will be up against each other for the first time since the 2019 ODI World Cup when they meet in Dubai as the two teams do not engage in bilateral cricket owing to the political tensions between the two countries. The pressure will be immense on players from both sides in a game that will be watched by billions across the globe. Want to see India and Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021 final, says Sunil Gavaskar

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly on Friday (October 22) confirmed that Rahul Dravid's appointment as the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team is not imminent yet. Ganguly revealed Dravid has asked for some time to decide whether he wants to replace Ravi Shastri or not and that there is no confirmation on his appointment yet.

Recently reports had stated that Dravid had agreed to become the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and will take over from Shastri, whose contract is set to expire post the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman. However, Ganguly said Dravid, who had earlier said he was not interested in the role, is yet to make his final call.

Dravid is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is expected to step down from the post if he decides to apply for the India head coach position. Ganguly said the batting legend, who has previously coached the India A and India U-19 teams, will apply if he wants to.

"There is no confirmation (On Dravid becoming coach)," Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

"If he wants to apply, he will apply, the process has to happen. For now, he is the coach of NCA and I believe NCA has a big role to play in Indian cricket. I have spoken to him earlier about this as well and he was not that interested and I feel the situation is still the same. He has asked for some time, let's see what happens," he added.

Recently, reports had also claimed that former India batter VVS Laxman was offered the role of the NCA head as BCCI has already started looking for a replacement for Dravid. However, Laxman turned down the offer and is likely to continue as the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and the batting consultant of Bengal in domestic circuit.

Team India thrashed England by seven wickets in their first warm-up match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Monday (October 18) to find some momentum ahead of the start of their campaign in the showpiece event. India comfortably chased down the target of 189 runs with the help of half-centuries from KL Rahul (51) and Ishan Kishan (70) to bag a comprehensive win.

With Kishan doing well as an opener ahead of the start of India's campaign, the left-hander might pose some selection headaches for captain Virat Kohli and the team management. However, Kohli on Monday confirmed that Rahul will open the batting for the Men in Blue alongside senior opener Rohit Sharma. Opening up on the team's opening combination ahead of the start of their campaign in the tournament, Kohli said it was difficult to look beyond Rahul at present.

"Things were different before IPL, now it's difficult to look beyond KL Rahul. He's been solid upfront. I will be batting at 3. That's the only thing I can say for now," said Kohli during toss ahead of the warm-up game against England.

Talking about the warm-up game between India and England, the Jos Buttler-led side posted a strong total of 188 runs batting first at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai with the help of Jonny Bairstow's 49 off 36 balls and Moeen Ali's quickfire 20-ball 43.

In reply, India were off to a flyer as Rahul and Kishan shared an 82-run stand for the first wicket and set the stage for a comprehensive win for the Men in Blue. While Rahul dashed his way to 51 off just 24 balls, Kishan too went all guns blazing in his 46-ball 70 laced with seven fours and three sixes. Also Read: Advantage India or Pakistan? No Ishan Kishan? Virat Kohli reveals India's opening combination for T20 World Cup 2021

Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar feels India should not keep Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the playing XI for the much-awaited clash against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021. India will open their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 with a blockbuster encounter against their arch-rivals in Dubai on October 24.

Ahead of the game, Agarkar gave his take on what should be India's ideal combination in the playing XI. With Hardik Pandya unlikely to bowl, Agarkar believes captain Virat Kohli will like to go into the game with at least six bowling options to choose from. Pandya did not bowl in the entire second leg of IPL 2021 and is expected to play as a pure batter if he makes the cut in the playing XI.

"Relatively certain that Virat Kohli would like six bowling options. If the pitch has something to offer, then you can perhaps take a chance with five bowlers, but if it’s a flat pitch, he would ideally want to go in with six bowlers with three seamers and they have lots of spin options," Agarkar said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Bhuvneshwar, who featured in India's warm-up game against England on Monday (October 18) looked completely out of sorts and was taken to cleaners by the English batters. The senior pacer ended up conceding 54 runs in the game and remained wicket-less.

With his poor form a concern, Agarkar believes Shardul Thakur should be picked over Bhuvneshwar for the game against Pakistan which will be a high-octane affair with expectations at an all-time from both ends.

"And Jadeja is an all-rounder whose batting has come out in leaps and bounds. So, you can treat him as one of the top-order batsmen. So, my six options if Hadik Pandya is not to bowl - would be Bumrah, Shami, Shardul, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar," said Agarkar as he snubbed Bhuvneshwar from his playing XI.

Bhvneshwar also had an average IPL 2021 where he looked out of rhythm and could only manage six wickets in 11 matches for the franchise as they finished at the bottom of the table.
