The number one ranked Indian side once again dominated proceedings against Bangladesh and ended with a lead of 68 runs before bundling out visitors for a less-than-modest score at the end of day 1 of the second Test.

Captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were not out on 59 and 23 respectively as India finished the day with 174 runs for the loss of three wickets.

This is the first pink-ball Test match played by either of the nations and the inauguration of this iconic match was done by Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina earlier in the day. BCCI President and former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar were also present to witness the day's proceedings.

India only need a draw in this match for a 12th consecutive home series win.

Earlier, India's lethal pace-trio ensured that the visitors didn't even manage a modest score after Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque won the toss and decided to bat first.

When India came out to bat, last match's double centurion Mayank Agarwal and his opening partner Rohit Sharma did not trouble scorers much and India were reduced to 43-2. But skipper Kohli and Pujara's partnership of 94 runs ensured that India were on course of a clean sweep.

Ind vs Ban 2nd Test: Hosts finish Day 1 on strong note after pace trio skittles Bangladesh

Bangladesh were forced to use two concussion substitutes Friday after India's pacemen led by Ishant Sharma bowled them out for 106 in the first day-night Test for both the teams.

Ishant returned figures of 5-22 in India's pink-ball debut to skittle the tourists in the second session after they elected to bat first in Kolkata.

But the tourists were dealt a double blow after Liton Das and Nayeem Islam were forced out of the game following hits on the helmet from paceman Mohammed Shami.

India were 35 for one at dinner -- the second session break of the day-night Test, trailing the tourists by 71 runs.

Rohit Sharma, on 13, and Cheteshwar Pujara, on seven, were batting after Mayank Agarwal was out for 14 off paceman Al-Amin Hossain.

Mehidy Hasan, who replaced Liton after the wicketkeeper-batsman retired hurt on 24, and Taijul Islam, for Nayeem, are back in the XI.

Mehidy, who made eight while batting, was replacing a batsman, so he can only bat. Taijul is a sub for an off-spinner, so he can bowl.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the use of concussion substitutes for all internationals from August. This is the first time two subs are being used in a Test.

India and Bangladesh have joined the pink-ball party four years after the first day-night Test in Adelaide between Australia and New Zealand.

Ishant struck first to get Imrul Kayes trapped lbw for four, and the left-handed opener wasted a review with replays showing the ball would have hit leg stump.

Umesh Yadav soon got going in his second spell to send back skipper Mominul Haque, caught superbly by Rohit at second slip for nought, before bowling Mohammed Mithun two balls later.

Kolkata-based Shami, part of India's deadly pace trio in the series, received the loudest cheers from a packed house at Eden Gardens after getting Mushfiqur Rahim bowled for nought.

Opener Shadman Islam worked hard for his 29 off 52 balls before becoming Yadav's third victim of the first session, which ended with Bangladesh on 73-6.

Ishant returned to wipe out the tail alongside Shami who took the final wicket of Abu for nought -- the fourth zero in the innings.

India's cricket chief Sourav Ganguly has put on a grand show at Eden Gardens, which is sold out for the first four days of the match.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in attendance along with a host of cricketing greats including batting icon Sachin Tendulkar.

Ishant Sharma takes fives as Indian pacers bundle out Bangladesh for 106 in pink-ball test

India's three-pronged pace attack wreaked havoc with the pink ball to reduce Bangladesh to 73 for six in the first session on day one of the second and final test on Friday.

The heavily-lacquered ball dominated the bat after Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque elected to bat in the first day-night test for both the teams at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

Mominul was soon left to rue the decision as the tourists, beaten inside three days in the series opener in Indore, looked clueless against India's quality attack.

To make it worse for them, Liton Das, who made 24, retired hurt after being hit in the helmet by a short Mohammed Shami delivery.

Nayeem Hasan and Abu Jayed, both yet to open their account, will return after the break to try and help the tourists past the 100-mark.

Ishant Sharma dismissed Imrul Kayes for four to earn the breakthrough and Umesh Yadav struck twice immediately after a change of ends to rattle the tourists.

Rohit Sharma took a diving, one-handed catch to send back Mominul, while Mohammad Mithun inside-edged an Umesh delivery onto the stumps.

Mushfiqur Rahim became the third top-order batsman to fall for a duck, bowled out by Shami.

Opener Shadman Islam hit five boundaries in his 29 before becoming Umesh's third victim. Wriddhiman Saha took a stunning low catch to send back Mahmudullah for six.

India need only a draw to record their 12th successive home series victory.

India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test: Lethal Indian pace attack wreck Bangladesh on pink-ball debut

By: Amartya Sharma

After a stunning performance by both bat and bowl in the first test match against Bangladesh in Indore, India beat Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs. This win brings an upgrade to a lot of Indian cricketers' ICC Test rankings and career milestones.

Mohammad Shami has made into Top 10 rankings of bowlers in Test cricket for the first time in his career.

Shami who ranks 7 now has rating points of 790 after his career-best 7/58 performance in the just-concluded test match against the Bangladeshi side. The 790 rating points is the third-best for an Indian pacer after Kapil Dev's 877 and Jasprit Bumrah's 832.

As Ishant Sharma moves into the Top 20 list and is at rank number 20 after 3/51 against Bangladesh. Ravichandran Ashwin's 85/5 helps him be in the Top 10 list. Umesh Yadav, who came in as Jaspit Bumrah's replacement ranks at 22 after a 98/4 against

3 Indian bowlers are in the Top 10 list in Test cricket, Former test number 3 slips to fourth Jasprit Bumrah after being out of action after being detected of a Lumbar (lower back) stress fracture which had been detected ahead of the three-match Test series against South Africa, at number 7 is Mohammad Shami who lead a splendid bowling attack against Bangladesh and then Ravichandran Ashwin, who spun his web against Bangladesh batting order also completed his milestone of joint-fastest 250 wickets in test at home with Muttiah Murlidharan's record of 42 tests, ranks at number 10.

Ravindra Jadeja remains on rank number 2 in the rankings of the All-rounder slot in the longest format after his fiery 60 (not out) in 76 balls where he smashed 6 fours and 2 sixes, but remained wicketless despite a 17 over spell (3 in first innings and 14 in second innings)

Meanwhile even the 'Bradmansque' Mayank Agarwal, after a majestic career-best double ton (243) that helped India set an un-sailable lead of 343 runs and the Man of the Match was ranked No. 11 among the batsmen. The 28-year old debuted against West Indies earlier this year, with 3 half-centuries, 3 centuries and two double tonnes in just 12 innings has helped him come into the top 15 list of batsmen of the longest format. He has an average of 71.50 and the rating points of 691.

After this inning, Mayank Agarwal who previously ranked 18 skipped seven ranks and came on number 11.

Mayank Agarwal is only the 2nd Indian opener to score two double centuries in a calendar year after Virender Sehwag scored 319 against South Africa and 201 against Sri Lanka in 2008.

In terms of innings taken for the second Test double ton, Agarwal stands at 2nd position behind Vinod Kambli who took 5 innings. Donald Bradman played 13 innings for the 2nd Test double while the new Indian Test opener needed only 12 innings.

The top ten batsmen list in the test is unfazed by the recent test match performances. Four Indian batsmen are currently in the Top Ten list, Virat Kohli despite being out on a duck stands strong on the second position just below Steve Smith, with the career point of 912.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkaya Rahane maintain positions 4 and 5 ranks respectively. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 54 runs and Ajinkaya Rahane scored 86 runs.

Virat Kohli equals Alan Border's tally of 32 Test matches win as a skipper and his jointly at fourth position at the moment.

India will look to extend its record of the most consecutive series wins at home (currently at 11) after defeating Bangladesh in its first-ever day-night Test match in the Eden Gardens which commences on 22nd November 2019.

India continues to stay at the top of the ICC Test World Championship table with 300 points, these points are more than the combined points gathered by the rest of the teams (232).

India's win over Bangladesh: Updates in ICC Test Rankings, career-milestones and ICC Test World Championship

India declared their first innings on their overnight score of 493-6 and then reduced Bangladesh to 60-4 to inch closer to a comprehensive victory inside three days in the opening test on Saturday.

Bangladesh had folded for 150 in their first innings and their second outing with the bat was hardly any better as they looked all at sea against India's relentless pace attack on day three of the one-sided contest.

Mushfiqur Rahim was batting on nine at the lunch break and Mahmudullah was on six with a demoralising defeat looming on the tourists.

Earlier, India's massive 343-run first innings lead convinced captain Virat Kohli to declare on their overnight score at Indore's Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Instead of stretching the lead further, Kohli wanted his quick bowlers to exploit the early morning conditions, which proved a smart decision as Bangladesh lost both their openers inside seven overs.

Umesh Yadav induced Imrul Kayes into a drive, only for the inside edge to crash into the leg stump.

In the next over, Ishant Sharma breached the bat-pad gap to sent back Shadman Islam. The openers made six each, mirroring their first innings score.

Mominul Haque, who made seven, survived a review before falling to one when India challenged the original not-out decision after Mohammed Shami had rapped the Bangladesh captain on his pad.

Mohammad Mithun hit four boundaries in his 18 but was jolted by a Shami bouncer which he pulled tamely to Mayank Agarwal at midwicket.

Bangladesh could have been in a bigger hole but Rohit Sharma dropped Mushfiqur in the slip to deny Shami a third success.

Kolkata hosts the second and final match, which will be the first day-night test for both sides, from Nov. 22.

India vs Bangladesh, 1st Test: India beat Bangladesh by innings and 130 runs

As India prepares to take on Bangladesh after suffering a stunning defeat in the Delhi T20 International, stand-in Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that the team is looking to provide opportunities to younger players in order to make them ready for other formats.

"You have seen many players who have emerged from T20I format and then they have gone on to play ODIs and Tests, " Sharma told reporters ahead of the second T20 against Bangladesh. He added that this move doesn't mean that the team is not looking to win matches.

"Winning games is our top-most priority," the stand-in captain asserted.

On Sunday, Bangladesh tasted their first-ever T20 success against India when they comprehensively defeated India by seven wickets.

Sharma added that the team is not focussing on any one department and the idea is to perform "collectively".

"We will make a little change to our approach. We were playing according to the pitch in the first T20I, but if the pitch is better in the next match, then our approach would be different in the next two T20Is, Sharma said.

The skipper also hoped for a better track at Rajkot.

The second encounter of the three-match series will be held in Rajkot on November 7.

Final fixtures for ICC Men's T20 World Cup announced

As India and Bangladesh get ready to lock horns in the first T20I of the three-match series, skipper Rohit Sharma on Saturday said that the side wants to focus on setting targets and defending them ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2020.

"We have looked at certain number of stats on how we chase and set target. Our numbers are great when we chase down the total. We want to focus on setting targets and defending them. The last T20I we played at Bengaluru against South Africa, we batted first on a sticky wicket as we wanted to challenge ourselves before T20 World Cup next year," Sharma told reporters.

"At the same time, we want to win games as well. We have not done well in the T20 format recently, probably we are ranked at number five in the ICC T20I rankings. We want to be at the top in all three formats of the game," he added.

Sharma also said that Rishabh Pant is a match-winner in the T20I format and needs to be given a consistent run as he can take the game forward on his day.

Both wicket-keepers (Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson) that we have in our squad are pretty talented. We have stuck with Pant, this is the format that gave him recognition. We have to stick with him for a while, we know how well he can take the game forward if he has his day," Sharma said.

The 32-year-old also said that the side has a lot of options and they need to be a given a number of games to get the best out of them. He also opined that both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international cricket are different and have different challenges.

''We have a lot of options. They just need to have a number of games behind them. This is the best time for us to try all the guys that are in the squad. When they play in the IPL, that is a different ball game, when you play international cricket, it is a different situation. In international cricket, there are limited opportunities and you have to make the most of it," Sharma said.

Rohit Sharma hits double ton as India declare on 497-9

After becoming the Indian batsman with the most number of double centuries in Tests, skipper Virat Kohli said that after becoming the captain, he started to think about the team completely.

The batsman managed to score his highest Test score as he registered an unbeaten knock of 254 runs. The skipper declared the innings despite having a chance of scoring a triple-hundred.

In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Kohli said: "Feels great obviously. It's a nice little thing to become the Indian batsman with the most number of double centuries in Tests. I used to struggle initially to get big scores, but as soon as I became the captain, I started to think about the team. And when it happens you end up batting more than you can imagine".

What makes this feat special is that the batsman has scored all his double centuries after 2016. Kohli said that his knocks against West Indies and England are his top two scores of over 200 in Test cricket.

"Overall, I am very happy. It was a very dominating day for us again. We are in a top position. If you keep thinking about the team, you just do whatever is best. All double centuries are great, but if you ask me, my top two double hundreds would be against West Indies in Antigua and against England in Mumbai," Kohli said.

The 30-year-old was involved in a 225-run partnership with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. This stand enabled India to post 600 runs on the board.

India also managed to take three wickets of South Africa before the close of play on day two of the match and the Proteas ended the day at 36/3.

"The plan was simple, we wanted to score 600 as soon as possible. Jaddu also batted brilliantly. He played with a great tempo, and it allowed me to bat in a normal manner. I did not have to take many risks and the partnership flourished between me and Jaddu. We got three wickets by the end of the day as well, so it was a very satisfying day. We wanted to attack and be positive," Kohli said.

With this innings, the batsman also went past the 7,000-run mark in the longest format of the game. In the match, the 30-year-old Kohli also surpassed former Australia batsman Don Bradman to record the most number of 150 plus scores as a captain.

Kohli now has 9 scores of 150 plus while captaining India, whereas Bradman had 8 scores of more than 150. Australia's Michael Clarke, Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, West Indies' Brian Lara, and South Africa`s Graeme Smith are next on the list with 7 scores of 150+ each.

The 30-year-old, who is leading his side in the 50th Test match also joined New Zealand's Stephen Fleming, England's Alastair Cook, and Australia's Steve Waugh to become only the fourth captain to score a century in his 50th match as captain.

Kohli now also has most runs as an Indian captain. He went past former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.

He also became the first Indian to score 40 hundreds as skipper. Ricky Ponting has the most international hundreds as a skipper. He had 41 centuries as the captain for Australia in international cricket.

Earlier this year, Kohli surpassed Dhoni to become the most successful Indian Test captain.

He captained India for 60 matches in the Test format. Earlier this year, Kohli surpassed Dhoni to become the most successful Indian Test captain. The 30-year-old Kohli had 27 wins to his credit before the second Test match against West Indies, but with the win, Kohli took his tally to 28 wins in the longest format of the game. The 30-year-old now has 29 wins from 49 matches as Test skipper. MS Dhoni had scripted 27 Test wins from 60 matches. India had registered a comprehensive 318-run win in the first Test match against Windies and as a result, Kohli had added yet another feather to his cap, becoming the most successful Indian captain in overseas Tests. Kohli had gone past former captain Sourav Ganguly to achieve the feat. This was Kohli's 12th overseas Test victory. He broke the record in his 26th match as skipper on foreign soil. Ganguly had 11 Test wins from 28 matches. While filing this story, India had reached a score of 356/3 at the lunch break.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed Team India manager Sunil Subramaniam to stay back in West Indies after he tendered 'unconditional apology' for misbehaving with Indian High Commission officials.

On Wednesday, BCCI had asked him to return from the ongoing tour, but Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai allowed him to stay back with a severe reprimand following his apology.

Subramaniam had misbehaved with the Indian Foreign Service Officers when they reached him for a video shoot by the players for 'water conservation'.

The BCCI had asked the Indian High Commissions in Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana to contact Subramaniam for the video, however, when an official tried to contact him, Subramanium refused to entertain the person.

In his apology, Subramaniam cited stress as the reason for his misbehaviour. Team India manager further added that he was also sleep deprived when the incident occurred.

Subramaniam was appointed as Team India's manager in 2017 for two years. However, it's not clear if he will now be allowed to contest for the position of manager -- the appointment is set to happen by the end of this month.

Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes that Virat Kohli should continue as India's captain and said that it will be foolish to remove him from the position.

After Rohit Sharma — India's vice-captain — unfollowed Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma on Instagram, rumours started pouring in about rift between both the batsmen.

"I think Kohli should not be removed from captaincy because a lot has been invested into him. He has been leading the sides for the past three-four years now," said Akhtar in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

"I have no doubts that Rohit is a good captain and he has done a good job in IPL but I think an investment has been made and that investment can be made better with a slight tweak. Virat Kohli is a sensible choice to carry on. I think it will be foolish to remove Kohli from captaincy," the former speedster said.

"There is a talk going on in India that the team is divided into groups because of the reported rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I guess Rohit wants to become the captain and Virat is coming in his way but I don't think these rumours are true," Akhtar added.

Akhtar also said that Virat needs a better coach and selection committee to improve.

Former Indian cricket team captain and first Indian captain to lift an ICC Cricket World Cup for the country – Kapil Dev - unveiled the largest cricket bat (made using willow in accordance with the ICC standards) on Friday.

The bat measured over 51 feet and weighed 6.6 tons. Dev presided over the event where a Guinness World Record was created at the Phoenix Marketcity and Palladium in Chennai.

Speaking at the event, Dev said, "I want this bat to remain in the city, let all cricketers who played for India come and sign the bat. The bat must remain in Chennai city as an expression of the people’s love".

Rahul Soni, whose team was responsible for crafting the massive bat, said, “while creating this bat we kept in mind the authenticity and ICC guidelines were followed. It is an extrapolated version of the very same bat that is in use. The look and feel is like that of an exact replica and structural stability is such that it can withstand the harsh outdoor environment".

Responding to WION on how cricket and World Cup has evolved since his heydays Kapil Dev said, “the Game is changing, although the sixes and fours remain the same, players now have become more professional. During our days we were even happy to have a single meal but today there are special diets, food guides and players decide what to eat. Sport in India is becoming professional, parents say if you're not good in studies then become a sportsman whereas 45 years back it was never this way. Hats off to the media for giving mileage to sports people.”

Commenting on the occasion Ms Pooja Patti, Center Director, Phoenix Market City and Palladium said, “The idea is to give a lifetime experience for our patrons and ardent cricket fans across the city. This is our way to cheer on, show support and boost the morale of Team India as they participate in the ICC World Cup”. Besides setting up AR and VR booths at the mall to give cricket enthusiasts a surreal experience, live screenings of all the matches are being organized, she added.

Kapil Dev also shared his take on contemporary events and players from the world of cricket. Speaking on Indian skipper Virat Kohli, he said, “He's too good - Kohli, I don't think I can compare. We are proud of the entire team. But we shouldn't depend too much on one player, the entire team must be a part of the win and players must step up when the need arises. All the good luck to the team, hope there are no more injuries and we will win the cup”.

Responding to questions on India’s most awaited clash with Pakistan he said, "the Indian team is far better today but when I was playing Pakistan was much better. If we play against Pakistan we could win 7 out of 10 matches".

Speaking on the upcoming film on the 1983 World Cup win, the veteran cricketer said, the movie will be good, "everyone had given their side of the story and it is not my biopic, it is a film on the winning team. These days actors, directors and film guys are so good. 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' was the most beautiful movie I've ever seen".

“I think Dhoni wearing the glove with the 'Balidaan' symbol of the Special Forces is not a controversy, I think he expressed a feeling from within and the media made it a controversy. However, we should go with the system, Dhoni himself must have not realized that it would become such a big thing. Going by the ICC system and the law he offered to not wear it. I respect Dhoni, he showed passion and love for India and our Army” said Kapil Dev.

Bangladesh will play a series in India for the first time when they tour the neighbouring nation in November for three T20s and two Tests.

In a first, the BCCI on Monday announced the schedule of the entire home season which will comprise five Tests, nine ODIs and 12 T20s.

The three Tests against South Africa in October and two against Bangladesh will be part of the inaugural World Test Championship that begins after the 2019 World Cup.

The season will begin with South Africa arriving for three T20s and as many Tests starting September 15.
What is noticeable in the entire schedule is India will not be playing a full-series comprising Tests, T20s and ODIs in one go. And that means that South Africa will return to play three ODIs in March 2020.

The series against Bangladesh will begin with the first T20 in Delhi. The two Tests will be played in Indore (November 14-18) and Kolkata (November 22-26).

Bangladesh had toured India for the first time in 2017 when they played a one-off Test in Hyderabad. They will also be one of the six sides India will play in the nine-team World Test Championship. The ICC has already made it clear that India and Pakistan will not be facing each other in the first cycle, unless they both make the final.

After Bangladesh's departure in the last week of November, India will face the West Indies in three T20s and as many ODIs starting December 6. The following month will see Zimbabwe touring India for three T20s between January 5-10.

Four days later, India play Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series. The BCCI and Cricket Australia had serious differences over the scheduling of the series but the Indian cricket board eventually had its way.

The home season will conclude in March with South Africa's ODI tour of India.

The complete breakdown of the home series fixtures: Freedom Trophy - 2019 against South Africa: 1st T20I: September 15, Dharamsala 2nd T20I: September 18, Mohali 3rd T20I: September 22, Bengaluru 1st Test: October 2-6, Vizag 2nd Test: October 10-14, Ranchi 3rd Test: October 19-23, Pune Bangladesh's Tour of India - 2019: 1st T20I: November 3, Delhi 2nd T20I: November 7, Rajkot 3rd T20I: November 10, Nagpur 1st Test: November 14-18, Indore 2nd Test: November 22-26, Kolkata West Indies' Tour of India - 2019: 1st T20I: December 6, Mumbai 2nd T20I: December 8, Thiruvananthapuram 3rd T20I: December 11, Hyderabad 1st ODI: December 15, Chennai 2nd ODI: December 18, Vizag 3rd ODI: December 22, Cuttack Zimbabwe's Tour of India - 2020: 1st T20I: January 5, Guwahati 2nd T20I: January 7, Indore 3rd T20I: January 10, Pune Australia's Tour of India - 2020: 1st ODI: January 14, Mumbai 2nd ODI: January 17, Rajkot 3rd ODI: January 19, Bengaluru.

At least we were not last like India: Malala Yousafzai's dig at friendly match ahead of Cricket World Cup

KL Rahul knows exactly what it would mean to win this year's World Cup in England, having seen for himself what a 2011 triumph on home soil meant to his fellow Indians.

Eight years ago, Rahul was a teenager watching television in a Bangalore bar as Gautam Gambhir's 97 and then-captain MS Dhoni's 91 not out saw India beat Sri Lanka in the World Cup final in Mumbai.

"When the game was over it was absolute chaos. The roads were blocked, everybody left their homes and was on the road celebrating," Rahul said Friday as he recalled the aftermath of India's second World Cup triumph.

"It was an unbelievable experience to see so many people forgetting about their worries. Whatever they had going on in their lives, they were just so, so happy India had won the World Cup.

"It was even bigger because we won it at home in India -- it brought billions of people together and brought so much joy."

Rahul was already a first-class cricketer but said watching the match made him want to focus more.

"I knew what a World Cup could do to the country, how big it is and how valuable it is to be part of a World Cup dream," he said.

"To be here after eight years representing my country means the world to me. I'm looking forward to hopefully inspiring billions of people again and to win the WorldCup would be the icing on the cake."

Now the 27-year-old Rahul finds himself in the same side as Dhoni and fellow 2011 winner Virat Kohli, the star batsman who has succeeded the wicket-keeper as India captain.

And he said the current side had the talent to equal the achievement of Kapil Dev's celebrated team in 1983 by winning a World Cup in England.

"To be part of this team is incredible,” Rahul said. "It's not just MS and Virat, there are so many other talented individuals -- Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan) and Jasprit (Bumrah), who is the most feared bowler in world cricket right now.

"Hopefully the hard work we have put in over the past two or three years means we can go out there, enjoy ourselves and win the World Cup."
