<p>Sharing their love with fans, Alia posted a series of pictures from the wedding as they looked much-in-love. In the first of the many photos, Alia and Ranbir can be seen kissing one another as they stand on the balcony of latter's house.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They shared images of their pheras, their cute moments together as the couple donned ivory and gold ensembles on the special day. Vijay Raaz plays a eunuch with so grace and dignity and is the person who makes Gangu aspire for a political career. Then there Jim Sarbh, who plays a journalist who helps Gangu become a national sensation. The actors fit their role well and deliver to their script, never overstepping Bhatt - who is truly the hero of the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Excited for reactions to her film, Alia Bhatt looked ethereal in yet another white ensemble as she got talking to us when she explained that “white is a colour I love and yes, Gangubai is white (put plainly).” “She wears a lot of white and the reason you'll understand when you watch the film. I wanted this colour to become synonymous with Gangubai,” said the actor as she fondly played with her net dupatta that she paired elegantly with her anarkali suit. &nbsp;</p>

<p>While Gangubai is “white” according to Alia who brings to life the character we have only heard of until now, those who’ve seen the film would agree that it has multiple layers. “I wanted to work with sir (Sanjay Leela Bhansali). The part was amazing, the performance scope was amazing, and the script was amazing. It was scary but amazing,” explained Alia as she plays a powerful brothel madame who fights for women’s rights and advocates equal rights for sex workers in the movie.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As for what prompted her to take it, the actress said that there wasn’t ever one thing that led her to the part. “For me and for actors in general, it’s pretty instinctive. It’s a feeling,” she said.&nbsp;</p>

So did it become difficult to disassociate from Gangu for Alia? She answered, “I think it takes its natural course, disassociating from the character. It usually happens if you move on to another character or the film releases, so you get a bit of a break but this film has been particularly long because the final rollout didn’t happen immediately. <p>I have a feeling 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' will fetch Alia her first National award for best actress. Not that she’s a stranger to outstanding performances. She was in sterling form in Imtiaz Ali’s Highway, Abhishek Choubey’s 'Udta Punjab' and Zoya Akhtar’s 'Gully Boy'.</p>

<p>None of these compares with what &nbsp;Alia has achieved in 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. &nbsp;It’s a transformative performance where we no longer see the actress but only the character. Alia’s voice, body language and mannerisms are completely new to her. She pulls it off with the panache of a pro.</p>

<p>As she told me excitedly, “You know, I always felt that until one is signed for a &nbsp;Sanjay Leela Bhansali film one has not really arrived. Would you believe I first went to audition for him when I &nbsp;was 9? I &nbsp;had gone to audition for Black and he told my mother, ‘No(to Black), she’s meant to be a star’. I felt I had to prove him right someday. And now for us to be collaborating &nbsp;….It’s a dream come true.”</p>

<p>He says, “It was memorable in every way possible. I cannot thank the Festival organizers enough for the honour that they gave my film. The Gala premiere was on 16 February. It was a full-moon night. It was also a rain-washed frosty night. The combination of the full moon and the rains were I think godsent. It was His blessing. The 'Devdas' premiere had happened on a no-moon night: it was a lunar eclipse. I always feel the hand of God in my films. At the most expected of times, when life looks unsure, God has brought down the rains. I feel they are a sign for me.”</p>

<p>Bhansali and his team had to follow strict Covid guidelines during the trip to Berlin. But he says the trip was worth all the discomfort. “It is difficult to travel with all the Covid guidelines. &nbsp;But it was all worth it. Yes, that was a &nbsp;great moment. Then of course the Red Carpet. Our 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' was the last film to be shown in the Gala section, so the red-carpet event was quite something. The theatre where our premiere was held was the most spectacular theatre I had ever seen. There were &nbsp;8,000 seats but we were allowed only 800 seats due to Covid restrictions. It was the most spectacular theatre I’ve ever seen. The screen &nbsp;was bigger than any I’ve seen in my &nbsp;life.”</p>

<p>Laughingly he says he couldn’t resist watching 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' with the Berlin audience. “When the film started &nbsp;I thought I’d stay for a while and then sneak away since I had already seen it &nbsp;300 times. But I just couldn’t take my eyes off. I am sorry but I was in awe of my own film. The most wonderful thing was that just one hour after they opened the box office all 800 tickets were sold out. It was a spectacular evening for me. The whole chain of events—the full moon night, the rain, the sold-out tickets, ours being the last film of the Gala—all seemed providential. I then came to know &nbsp;that there was an audience waiting to see 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'.”</p>

<p>The Berlin experience has given Bhansali confidence for its Indian release. &nbsp;“Birju Maharaj’s, Lataji’s and my mother’s blessings are with me and my hard work. The audience in Berlin clapped at my song Dholida. They enjoyed the music songs and humour and anger of my film. They clapped for 8 minutes after the film was over. I introduced my film to the audience which I &nbsp;was reluctant to do. Gangubai is a film that resonates in your mind. It is an experience that doesn’t need any explanation or analysis. &nbsp;You watch it. You like it. Or you don’t like it. Period. When I heard that standing ovation in Berlin I got my answer. They actually clapped for 6-7 minutes nonstop. That isn’t a small thing. It made all the pain and &nbsp;effort &nbsp;worth the while: the two &nbsp;lockdowns, the pandemic, the recession."&nbsp;</p>
