Tennis: Novak Djokovic extends record stay as world no.1, Carlos Alcaraz remains in pursuit
Novak Djokovic stays on top of ATP rankings.
Novak Djokovic, in latest ATP rankings released on Monday, continue to remain on number one position, extending his stay to record 379 weeks. Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, however, remains in hot pursuit of the Serbian.
Djokovic, however, stares at losing the top spot after decided to not play in the upcoming Indian Wells Master ATP event, scheduled to be played in the USA. This is also Alcaraz'sgolden chance to bridge the gap between him and Djokovic.
Second-ranked Alcaraz will take over at the ATP summit if he wins the Indian Wells Masters -- Djokovic was forced to withdraw from the event starting this week on Sunday.
The Serb is unable to enter the United States because he is unvaccinated against Covid-19. A petition to US authorities for special permission to enter was rejected.
The 35-year-old winner of 22 Grand Slam titles edged ahead of Steffi Graf's all-time record last week despite losing in the Dubai semi-finals to Daniil Medvedev.
