Namibia finish second best
Tasked with chasing 210 runs to win, Namibia were undone by a ruthless bowling approach by the defending champions. Louren Steenkamp was the highest scorer with 29 runs, while his opening partner Jan Frylinck scored 22 off 15. However, no big partnership saw Namibia on the receiving end as they were folded out for 116 in 18.2 overs. Varun Chakaravarthy scalped three wickets while Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel ended with two wickets each.
What happened in India’s innings?
Having won the toss, Namibia put India into bat as the defending champions made a good start with Samson and Ishan Kishan. Samson was the aggressor of the duo as he scored 22 off 8 deliveries before being dismissed in the second over. After Samson’s wicket, Ishan Kishan took over the initiative and smashed 61 off 24, scoring his fifty in just 20 balls. He, along with Tilak Varma (25), stitched a stand of 79 runs in 31 balls for the second wicket.

However, Ishan’s wicket saw India’s batting collapse as the Men in Blue lost back-to-back wickets. Hardik Pandya (52 off 28) and Shivam Dube (23 off 16) later stabilised the innings, putting together 81 runs for the fifth wicket. Eventually, India were restricted to 209/9 in their 20 overs despite scoring 86 runs in the Powerplay.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus was the pick of the bowlers for Namibia as he bagged figures of 20/4 in his 20 overs.
India are next in action on Sunday when they take on Pakistan in Colombo in a high-stakes contest, while Namibia now face a do-or-die contest against the USA on the same day, with the losing team confirming its exit from the tournament.
