In two separate encounters in India's Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, security forces killed at least 30 members of the banned CPI (Maoists). A Bijapur District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was also killed in the encounter, said the police on Thursday (March 20).
The operation was carried out by a joint team of the BSF and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel under the Gangalur police station. The encounter between the security forces and the Naxalites began at 7 am on Thursday and continued for several hours before 26 of the 30 Naxalites were killed in Bijapur district and four were gunned down in Kanker.
"Operations were conducted today in various areas of the Bastar district. In the Bijapur-Dantewada border region, we have recovered the bodies of 26 Naxalites," said IG Sundarraj, speaking to news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the success of the security forces and said, the BJP government under the leadership of Narendra Modi is moving forward with a ruthless approach against the Naxalites, and adopting a zero tolerance policy against extremists, who have refused to surrender despite providing all facilities. The Allahabad High Court observed in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case of the alleged rape of a minor girl that grabbing the breasts of the victim and snapping her pyjama strings does not constitute rape or attempted rape, but rather serious sexual assault.
A single bench, comprising Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, modified the summons order of Special Judge POCSO Court of Kasganj and ordered fresh summons.&nbsp;
The court said that the summons issued on the charge of rape is not legal.
The two accused, identified as Pawan and Akash, allegedly grabbed an 11-year-old girl's breasts and tore her pyjama string, attempting to drag her under a culvert in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;
The accused fled the scene after a passerby intervened. A case has been registered at the Patiyali police station.
The petitioners Akash, Pawan, and Ashok initially faced trial under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 18 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.&nbsp;
However, the High Court directed that the accused should instead be tried under Section 9/10 of the POCSO Act, which pertains to serious sexual assault, in addition to the lesser charge of Section 354-B IPC, which involves assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe.
The court, while partially allowing the criminal revision petition, said, "The allegations levelled against accused Pawan and Akash and the facts of the case do not make out the offence of attempt to rape in this case. As per the prosecution, accused Pawan and Akash grabbed the breasts of the 11-year-old victim and Akash broke the string of her pyjama and tried to drag her under the culvert, but due to the intervention of passersby/witnesses, the accused fled from the spot leaving the victim behind. They have not committed the offence of rape."&nbsp;

Shayan Shaikh (20) was arrested from Malad, and Raziq Butt (20) was arrested from Mira Road.
The octogenarian was kept under digital arrest for 2 months, where she was checked on by the scammer at an interval of 3 hours. She was under constant watch, where she was tracked through video calls and was further advised not to move out of her home.

As reported in the Times of India, the scammer who kept a tab on the lady said he was Sandip Rao from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). During these two months, there was a fake online court hearing orchestrated to make everything seem authentic. Along with this, fake Supreme Court orders were sent to her via WhatsApp. It led on to the fake officials asking her to transfer the money to the court, promising a refund once the investigation was complete.
Rao, who identified himself as a CBI officer, told the victim that a bank account activated in her name was used in money laundering. He further highlighted that some transfers were done between her and Jet Airways CEO Naresh Goyal.
On seeing visible changes in her behaviour, her house help informed the octogenarian's daughter. As per the police, she would have loud conversations with someone over the phone and step out of her room only to have her meals.
The fraudsters continued to interrogate her and called it an 'e-investigation' where her bank details were taken for verification. Furthermore, she was prohibited from communicating details of the probe with her relatives.
An FIR was filed on March 4, which detailed a few transfers made by the accused. Nearly $580 was transferred to Shaikh's account, and about $10,400 to Butt, who handed over the money to another accused, ultimately converting it into cryptocurrency.

An Indian court has ruled that wives watching pornography or engaging in self-pleasure and masturbation are not grounds for divorce.
The Madras High Court on Wednesday (Mar 19) held that a woman&rsquo;s sexual autonomy and the fundamental right to privacy includes spousal privacy, rejecting a man&rsquo;s appeal seeking divorce from his wife.

A Bench of Justices GR Swaminathan and R Poornima observed that watching porn in private is not an offence. Although the court noted that it may not be morally justifiable as porn portrays women in a degrading manner and it could negatively impact the viewer. However, merely watching porn in private would not amount to marital cruelty.
The court also ruled that the allegation that a wife masturbates is not grounds for divorce, adding that it would be a gross violation of a woman&rsquo;s sexual autonomy. The court said that when masturbation by a man is acknowledged to be universal, masturbation by woman cannot be stigmatised.

&ldquo;If after contracting marriage, a woman has sexual relationship outside marriage, it would furnish ground for divorce. However, indulging in self-pleasure cannot be a cause for dissolution of marriage. By no stretch of imagination, can it be said to inflict cruelty on the husband,&rdquo; the high court said.
The petitioner made several allegations against his wife including that she was a spendthrift, was addicted to watching porn, engaged in masturbation, refused to do household chores, did not treat her in-laws well and engaged in long phone conversations. He also claimed that his wife suffered from a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

The court found that the man did not prove any of the allegations sufficiently and did not have any medical test report for his claim that the woman had STD. The court added that &ldquo;The other party, even if afflicted with a venereal disease in a communicable form should be given an opportunity to show that he or she was not at fault,&rdquo; the Court held.
<h2>Right to spousal privacy even after marriage</h2>
The court further stressed that a woman retains her right to spousal privacy even after marriage, including sexual autonomy.

This comes amid ongoing unrest in Maharashtra's Nagpur over the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who died more than 300 years ago. Some people are demanding to demolish the tomb. After the Punjab Police's action on the protesting farmers at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu Border on Tuesday, Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh asserted that the entire road will be cleared and opened for traffic. Speaking to ANI, SSP Singh highlighted that they did not use any force as protesting farmers cooperated with them.
"Farmers had been protesting at the Shambhu Border for a long time. Today, in the presence of Duty Magistrates, Police cleared the area after they were given proper warning. A few people showed a willingness to go home. So, they were sent home on a bus. In addition, the structures and vehicles here are being moved. The entire road will be cleared and opened for traffic," he said.
"Haryana Police will also begin their action. Once it opens from their side, the movement on the highway will resume. We did not need to use any force because there was no resistance. Farmers cooperated well and they sat in buses by themselves," the SSP said.
Police also removed temporary structures erected by farmers at the protest site. Several farmer leaders including farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal who is on an indefinite fast and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarvan Singh Pandher were detained by the Police.

Reacting to it, farmer leader and national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait condemned the Punjab government's action.
"In the ongoing agitation on the border of Punjab, on one hand the government is negotiating with the farmer organizations and on the other hand it is arresting them. We strongly condemn the action of the Punjab government and all the farmer organizations are ready for every struggle," Tikait posted on X.
On farmer leaders detention, Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi claimed that farmers are being attacked as part of a conspiracy.
"Not just Punjab but the entire farming community is facing a big attack today. A meeting was held today (in Chandigarh) in which it was decided that the next round of talks would be held on May 4 but they (farmers) were attacked from behind and deceived. The road has been blocked by the government, not by the farmers. They (farmers) want to come to Delhi," Channi said.
BJP leader Fatehjung Singh Bajwa emphasized that his party is standing with the farmers and AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann "played with farmers".
"The central government has sent its team of ministers to hold talks with the farmers but the businessmen of Ludhiana West said that they wouldn't vote for them (AAP) as all the roads are closed. To ensure the Rajya Sabha seat for Arvind Kejriwal and win the Ludhiana West by-election, they have detained Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarvan Singh Pandher. BJP is with the farmers of Punjab but Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal played with farmers," Bajwa told ANI.
Defending his government's action, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the action was taken as they want to open Shambhu and Khanauri borders. Speaking to ANI, Cheema asserted that the farmers should stage a protest in Delhi or somewhere else as their demands are against the Central government.
"The AAP government and the people of Punjab stood with the farmers when they protested against the three black laws. The demands of the farmers are against the central government. It has been more than a year and the Shambhu and Khanauri borders are closed. The traders, youth of Punjab are very upset. When the traders will do business, the youth will get employment and they will stay away from drugs," he said.
"Today's action has been taken because we want the youth of Punjab to get employment. We want to open Shambhu and Khanauri borders. The demands of the farmers are against the central government and they should stage a protest in Delhi or somewhere else but should not block the roads of Punjab," Harpal Cheema said. Earlier today, as part of the central government's outreach to farmers, three Union Ministers and Punjab Cabinet Ministers met with the farmers in Chandigarh amid their protest over several demands.
The next meeting between the government and the farmers has been scheduled for May 4.
After meeting with farmers' leaders, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that the discussion was very positive.
"The meeting took place in a very positive atmosphere and the discussions were very positive. The next date for the meeting is May 4," Chouhan said.

<h2>Police arrests violence &lsquo;mastermind&rsquo;</h2>
The Nagpur Police nabbed Minorities Democratic Party (MDP) leader Fahim Shamim Khan, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the violence in central Nagpur, reported HT citing officials.
Khan was named as one of the prime accused in an FIR registered at Ganeshpeth Police Station.

<h2>A tale of love and murder</h2>
Police identified the victim as Saurabh Rajput, a merchant navy officer, who had been missing since 4 March 2025.&nbsp;
Rajput, as per a PTI news agency report, was murdered by accused Muskan, his wife and her lover Sahil.
Saurabh went missing on March 4 after he returned home from ship service. Rajput reportedly had returned home from London, where he was posted, when he disappeared.

"A person named Saurabh Rajput, working in merchant Navy, came home on March 4 and had been missing since then," Meerut City Superintendent of Police (SP) Ayush Vikram Singh told news agency ANI.
He further said that on the basis of suspicion, Sachin's wife Muskan and her lover Sahil were called in for questioning.
During the questioning, Sahil confessed to stabbing Sachin to death on March 4, said the Meerut City SP. The duo reportedly stabbed Rajput, then dismembered his body, placing his remains in a plastic drum. They then filled the drum with cement to conceal the crime, said police. The alleged murderers reportedly went on a vacation to a hill station after committing the crime.

Uttar Pradesh: Merchant Navy officer killed by wife, her lover; dismembered body found stuffed in cement filled drum

Security forces have defused five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the last four days in the Kashmir Valley. Two IEDs were detected by security forces on Wednesday (Mar 19).
The first one was defused in North Kashmir's Bandipora district while the second was detected at Awantipora area of Pulwama District.&nbsp;

Security forces averted a big tragedy by detecting an IED which was later defused by the Bomb disposal squad on the Bandipora-Srinagar road. The IED was hidden inside a pressure cooker on the highway and while the forces were on a routine patrol, they detected an IED near the Sunset Point, prompting immediate action to ensure public safety.

The second IED was detected by forces on the roadside (Kakapora to Sangam) at village Ghat Tokuna Awantipora in Pulwama district.&nbsp;
The pressure cooker IED was detected after an input was received by the forces and a BDD squad was sent to the site. The IED was dismantled by the unit BDDS along with Civil police BDDS. As there was no visible signs of the presence of an active mechanism, dismantled parts were taken by civil police for further investigation. No loss of life or injury took place. And on Monday, security forces located an IED in the Reshipora Qaimoh area of Kulgam district during their routine operations. The swift identification and subsequent neutralization of these threats have highlighted the vigilance of security forces in the region.

"We are not going to certify any institution as bad or good," said Kant, according to Indian media reports.
"We will definitely have CBI probe. That is clear. Thousands of people are crying. We can't wipe their tears but we can address their issues. Something very effective has to be done in a time-bound manner," he added.&nbsp;
In a groundbreaking judgment passed in July 2024, India's Supreme Court prohibited any coercive measures, including EMI recovery, against homebuyers in the National Capital Region who have yet to receive possession of their flats.
However, the implementation of the landmark ruling remains elusive.&nbsp;
The homeowners made another startling allegation stating that the loan amounts were unlawfully disbursed directly into builders' and developers' accounts, contravening Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.
"If a particular builder goes insolvent, it's not my fault," said Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing the financiers.
To this, Justice Kant said, "Your fault is that, knowing not a brick has been laid at the site, you released 60 per cent! How can this be without quid pro quo!?"
Singhvi proposed that banks could waive interest charges until homeowners receive possession of their properties. However, the court rejected it.
"It is not going to address the larger issue. It is not going to heal the ailment the entire system is suffering from. Lakhs, lakhs of people... the Supreme Court is handling the poor people's plight every day," Justice Kant said.
"We don't want any reluctance. We want to go into the root... we have zero tolerance. We will request the amicus (curiae) to assist," he said.&nbsp;

WION reached out to experts to get in-depth insights on the case of the woman, who has been suffering from fever, cough and cold for the past 15 days.&nbsp;
Dr Deep Narayan Mukherjee Consultant Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, CMRI Kolkata told WION, "Coronavirus has prevailed for decades in different species and subspecies. Amongst them, the recent COVID-19, was a lethal and problematic virus, something different from the other common coronaviruses."&nbsp;
"Common coronaviruses were prevalent for decades. A few of them were isolated and identified 20-25 years ago - HKU1 is among them. It was detected in Hong Kong, and the name was given for that," he added.&nbsp;

She told WION, "This is not COVID-19 virus, but this is the type of coronavirus. Coronavirus has been there with us, infecting both humans and animals for ages."&nbsp;
"COVID-19 was a different variant of coronavirus, which created a pandemic, leading to cases of COVID-19 pneumonia, causing severe disease and hospitalisation. The same doesn't hold true with earlier reported coronaviruses, including that of HKU1, which is a milder strain of coronavirus and is seen infecting both humans and animals," Dr Baidya said.&nbsp;

<h2>What are its symptoms?&nbsp;</h2>
The symptoms of HKU1 are similar to those of the common cold and include a runny nose, fever, coughing, wheezing, headache, and sore throat. In severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia and bronchiolitis. They are quite different from what we have seen during the COVID-19, such as loss of taste and smell, etc.&nbsp;
Dr Baidya said, "Rarely, it can cause severe lung infection, but cough is commonly seen in around 50-60% of the patients."&nbsp;
<h2>What are prevention tips?&nbsp;</h2>
We should be taking this caution by minimising the spread of the virus by practising proper respiratory etiquette and respiratory hygiene, including wearing masks, practicing hand hygiene, and social distancing.&nbsp;
The detection requires special methods to detect these viruses, which include taking a nasal or throat swab and running an RT-PCR test to identify coronavirus strain, and then further variant characterisation.&nbsp;

Dr Baidya revealed that the treatment of this infection is usually based on symptoms. She said, "Right now, no dedicated antivirals have been proposed for this infection with very promising effectiveness. Mainly, it is symptomatic."&nbsp;
The symptoms are usually mild and self-limiting. We should focus on self-care, and supportive treatment will be provided by the doctor accordingly. Vaishnaw visited the Hyperloop testing facility in Chennai on Saturday (Mar 15), where he was accompanied by the faculty advisors and other researchers. He shared that the Hyperloop tube will soon become the world's longest.
The minister saw a live demo of the Hyperloop tube at the testing facility at 'IIT Madras Discovery Campus' in Chennai.
The Hyperloop test tube is currently known as Asia's longest Hyperloop test facility.

Srinagar: The intelligence agencies of India have rescued thousands of youths, who had been trafficked by a cyber fraud syndicate, from Myanmar. The rescued youths include over a dozen Kashmiri youngsters who had fallen prey to the cyber fraud syndicate operating from Myanmar. We had contact with him till they reached Myanmar but after that we have not spoken to him at all. I want my son back,&rdquo; said Ghulam Rasool, father of Faizan.

Srinagar: The intelligence agencies of India have rescued thousands of youths, who had been trafficked by a cyber fraud syndicate, from Myanmar. The rescued youths include over a dozen Kashmiri youngsters who had fallen prey to the cyber fraud syndicate operating from Myanmar. These youngsters were rescued and repatriated and later handed over to the Counter Intelligence wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police. Unemployed youth across India have been falling in the trap of these fake job scams. The job opening links on social media sites are mostly posted by fraudsters, offering jobs in different countries across the world. These sites run proper exams and interviews before calling the candidates to foreign countries. Some of these youngsters were even given air tickets while some were called to come on their own. <h2>How it all started&nbsp;</h2>
On March 17, between 7 and 9 am, some members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal started a demonstration demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb. When police reached the spot, they started pelting stones at police officers, leaving three injured.&nbsp;

Around 10 pm, another clash erupted in Nagpur's Hansapuri area in which some vehicles, even houses and shops, were set on fire. To quell the situation, police fired tear gas on the mob.&nbsp;
After the massive violence, police nabbed nearly 60 to 65 rioters, India Today reported. Additional personnel, including Quick Response Teams (QRT), Riot Control Police, and the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), were also deployed to prevent further unrest.
<h2>A rumor&mdash;and then destruction&nbsp;</h2>
The first and major cause behind the clashes was a rumour that members of Bajrang Dal and others demanding removal of the tomb had burned a Quran, the holy book of Islam.&nbsp;

Some of the videos of protesters burning the effigy of the Mughal emperor were circulated on the social media platform X, leading to outrage in the Muslim community.&nbsp;
The prime reason for the violence was the demand for the razing of Aurangzeb&rsquo;s tomb, situated in Khuldabad in Aurangabad, which is now named Sambhajinagar.&nbsp;
<h2>Bollywood's Chhava to blame?</h2>
It all began earlier this month when the Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi claimed in the state assembly of Maharashtra that some of the elements in the Bollywood movie Chhava starring Vicky Kaushal, which depicted Chhatrapati Sambhaji&rsquo;s battle with Aurangzeb, were incorrect and that Aurangzeb was, in fact, a good administrator.&nbsp;
<h2>'Take it to your homes'</h2>
But, it was not just the right-wing fringe groups that called for the demolition of the tomb. Several political parties, such as the BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, have also voiced similar views on the tomb.&nbsp;

A statement came from Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji, calling Aurangzeb a thief, and demanding that the tomb be razed.&nbsp;
He even said that people who like to visit the tomb can &ldquo;take it to their homes&rdquo;.&nbsp;
<h2>The history&nbsp;</h2>
Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, ruled India from 1658 to 1707. He has been a controversial figure in Indian history. As per Indian historians, Aurangzeb's reign was marked by rigid Islamic rule, the enforcement of Sharia law, and aggressive military campaigns.&nbsp;
But it is believed that during his later years, Aurangzeb earned money by stitching caps to fund his burial.

A rumor—and then destruction The first and major cause behind the clashes was a rumour that members of Bajrang Dal and others demanding removal of the tomb had burned a Quran, the holy book of Islam. Know symptoms, prevention Some of the videos of protesters burning the effigy of the Mughal emperor were circulated on the social media platform X, leading to outrage in the Muslim community. The prime reason for the violence was the demand for the razing of Aurangzeb’s tomb, situated in Khuldabad in Aurangabad, which is now named Sambhajinagar. Bollywood's Chhava to blame? It all began earlier this month when the Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi claimed in the state assembly of Maharashtra that some of the elements in the Bollywood movie Chhava starring Vicky Kaushal, which depicted Chhatrapati Sambhaji’s battle with Aurangzeb, were incorrect and that Aurangzeb was, in fact, a good administrator. 'Take it to your homes' But, it was not just the right-wing fringe groups that called for the demolition of the tomb. Several political parties, such as the BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, have also voiced similar views on the tomb. He even said that people who like to visit the tomb can “take it to their homes”. The history Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, ruled India from 1658 to 1707. He has been a controversial figure in Indian history. As per Indian historians, Aurangzeb's reign was marked by rigid Islamic rule, the enforcement of Sharia law, and aggressive military campaigns.
