Former Delhi chief minister Atishi has been arrested after taking part in an anti-demolition protest at Kalkaji's Bhoomihin Camp.

"BJP is going to demolish these jhuggis tomorrow, and I am being jailed today because I am raising my voice for these slum dwellers,” Atishi said.

Videos from the site showed police controlling the mob while taking Atishi to the police.

The former Delhi CM further slammed the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the current Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

She was seen shouting that the BJP would never come back again.

On Monday (June 9), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) issued a notice for the residents of Bhoomiheen Camp in South Delhi's Kalkaji Extension. They were directed to vacate their houses ahead of the demolition of illegal huts, as directed by the High Court.

The notice said that residents vacate the premises voluntarily within three days - June 8,9, and 10 - else they will face actions by authorities.

“Any belongings left inside the huts during demolition will be removed, and the agency will not be held responsible for any damage or loss to personal property,” the notice read.

“The DDA has appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with officials to ensure a smooth and orderly process,” it added.

Meanwhile, AAP MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP-led Delhi government is “running bulldozers” on people’s houses and shops.
