
Days after the horrific case of rape and murderemerged in Kolkata's RG Kar hospital, an acid attack has been reported in Belur, creating a stir in the Bhot Bhagan area in West Bengal. A young woman was attacked with acid around 1 am last night, while she was asleep inside her home, according to the reports.
The woman has suffered severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Howrah District Hospital.
Following the attack, the Belur police have initiatedinvestigation.
Senior officials from Howrah City Police visited the scene on Thursday morning to further assess the situation and to identify those responsible for the attack.

Howrah City Police's Deputy Commissioner (North), Bishop Sarkar, said that an investigation is underway. According to the complaint, the acid was thrown into the room through a hole in the wall, injuring both the young woman and her mother.
The mother's injuries are less severe.
However, the victim's family and neighbours have not been able to provide details on the motive behind the attack, but there is a strong call for the immediate arrest of the attackers, as per the reports.
The police suspectthe perpetrators maybe knowing the victim and that the attack could be driven by personal animosity.

Meanwhile, in the Kolkata rape and murder case the CBI, investigating the incident, informed the Supreme Court on Thursday (Aug 22) that their investigation was hindered by the altered crime scene.
Further, the top courtquestioned the move of the state government in appointing the then principal, Sandip Kumar Ghosh, to another hospital immediately after his resignation from the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
