
A woman was tossed in the air and severely injured after she was hit by a speeding car on Wednesday (June 12) in the Indian state of Maharashtra while she was crossing the road.
The horrific car crash took place at Swaraj Chowk in Pimpri Chinchwad city after which the victim, Rekha was immediately rushed to the hospital by the driver himself and is currently undergoing treatment.CCTV footage of the accident soon went viral on social media.
The clipping showed the woman crossing the road when she was hit by a speeding Wagon R and thrown into the air.
The police said that the accused, a 24-year-old, was taken into custody and his car was seized.
“In an accident with a white Wagon R, the victim Rekha was injured, yesterday between 3.30-4 pm. She is stable now. The accused who is a 24-year-old has been taken into custody and the car seized,” news agency PTI quoted Pimpri-Chinchwad DCP Shivaji Pawar as saying.
The police also confirmed that the driver was not drunk and he likely lost control of the vehicle.
“The accident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the car veered off the road and hit the woman as she was walking along the roadside. The woman received injuries. Her brother and uncle reached there shortly after the incident and took her home. They informed us that they will visit the police station to file a formal complaint,” an official told PTI.
The incident comes days after a 17-year-old boy killed two IT professionals after hitting them with his Porsche in Pune.
The allegedly drunk teenager was released on bail just 15 hours after being detained which sparked a nationwide outrage.
