Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on Saturday (June 1) that the mother of the 17-year-old accused in the Porsche accident case has been arrested. This development comes a day afterthe court sent the father and grandfather of the accused minor involved to judicial custody for 14 days.
The minor, who was driving the car, killedtwo IT professionals who were travelling on a bike on the night of May 19. Police have claimed that the 17-year-oldwas driving the car in an inebriated state when it met with the fatal accident. He has been sent to an observation home till June 5.
Also on Friday,the Pune police crime branch filed a production application for the teenager's fatherbefore the Pune District Court in the first FIR wherein charges of 120B were added.
The Punepolice have written to the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board seeking permission to probe the minor.“We have written to the JJ Board and sought their permission to allow us to probe the minor,” Shailesh Balkawade, additional commissioner of police (crime), told the news agency PTI.
Earlier, the JJ Board had granted bail to the teenager,a few hours after the crash and asked him towrite a 300-word essay on road safety. Amid heavy criticism, police again approached the JJB, which modified the order and sent him to an observation home till June 5.
Meanwhile,retired IAS officer Arun Bhatia has written a letter to the Chairman of the MaharashtraHuman Rights Commission (MHRC) seeking the transfer ofCommissioner Amitesh Kumarfrom the city.
Bhatia has also requested the human rights body to investigate the conduct of Kumar. He alsoasked for a report from the police regarding the "step-by-step sequence of events and reasons for delay and lapses in the investigation process which must be obtained and brought into the public domain immediately."
