Pune car accident case: Teen’s mother blames doctors, minor admits he was drunk

The accused in the Pune Porsche car accident case that killed two IT professionals on May 19, a minor boy, has finally admitted he was in an inebriated state. However, the teen boy said he didn't remember the incidents completely. The accused is held at an observation home till June 5 as the investigation continues.

His parents, Shivani Agarwal and Vishal Agarwal, were produced in the court on Sunday where the investigation officer informed the court that the parents of the 17-year-old accused had tried to shield the child and the blood samples of the mother were taken instead of the accused. This has been revealed and confirmed by the report submitted by the Regional forensic science laboratory of Maharashtra state. The duo has been remanded in police custody till June 5.

Shivani in a statement to the police said that the doctors had asked her to give her blood samples.

“We have recorded the statement of the woman (49). She told us that the doctors of the hospital had told her to give her blood as sample instead of her son’s. She feigned ignorance on why the doctors told her so," a Times of India report quoted Pune commissioner of police (CP) Amitesh Kumar as saying.

On 19 May, the 17-year-old drunk boy killed two IT professionals after crashing his Porsche car in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune when the duo was travelling on a motorbike. The boy didn't have a valid license. Police have registered three separate FIRs in connection with the case – one regarding the accident, the second one against the bar for serving liquor to the minor, and the third one for the wrongful confinement of the accused's kin on the family driver to take the blame for the accident.

The names of some top Maharashtra politicians have also surfaced in the media in relation to the case. The state's deputy CM Ajit Pawar is constantly defending the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from Vadgaon Sheri, Sunil Tingre.

"Did Sunil Tingre try to suppress the matter? The allegations against him are baseless," Ajit Pawar was quoted as saying in media reports.
