In India's Maharashtra, a new disturbing incident of sexual exploitation has come to light just days after the tragic Kolkata doctor rape-murder case. A 19-year-old nursing student was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver in Ratnagiri district.
What happened?
The 19-year-old girl was reportedly on her way home from college when the auto driver offered her spiked water. After drinking the drugged water, the victim lost consciousness, followingwhich the auto driver took her to a secluded place and raped her.
As per media reports citing local police, the survivor called her family after she gained consciousness.
The survivor has been admitted to an undisclosed local hospital for medical treatment.

Her family lodged a complaint on Monday (August 26). The horrific incident has sparked widespread outrage in Ratnagiri, with the nursing community and other hospital staffers leading protests, and blocking roads demanding justice.
Police look for rapist
As per reports, police are looking for the rapist driver. They are analysing CCTV recordings from the neighbourhood where the incident took place.
Meanwhile, the search for the absconding driver is ongoing.
An 11-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident. A senior female officer will lead the team.

The latest incident of sexual assault in India comes just days after a trainee postgraduate doctor was brutally raped and murdered at West Bengal's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. She was resting in the hospital's seminar hall after a long work shift when she was assaulted. A civic volunteer identified as Sanjay Roy is the main accused in the case and was arrested.
An autopsy of the 31-year-old revealed extensive internal and external injuries.
