Kolkata rape-murder: Accused Sanjay Roy used bike registered in top cop's name; police explain why

In a new revelation in the horrific Kolkata murder-rape case, the bike used by the main accused Sanjay Roy, was registered in the name of Kolkata's Commissioner of Police, Indian news media, India Today reported.
However, following the report, Kolkata Police clarified and said that all official vehicles are registered in the name of the Police Commissioner.
They further said that some individuals on social media are attempting to "create confusion" around this.
"All government vehicles belonging to Kolkata Police are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police before being assigned to various units," the police stated on X.
Notably, this was the same bike that Roy, who worked as a civic volunteer with Kolkata police, had used to visit the red light areas in north and south Kolkata on the day of the incident. Before reaching the hospital and committing the horrible crime, Roy rode the bike for around 15 kilometres in a drunken state.

Moreover, CBI sources said that Roy's access to Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer made him feel "invincible". The investigation agency is looking into a larger aspect in connection with the case.
Sanjay Roy was arrested on August 10, a day after the body of the trainee doctor was found inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital. He is currently in jail and will remain in custody till September 6.
ED files money laundering case, probes on alleged 'financial irregularities' at RG Kar Hospital
The Enforcement Directorate has filed a money laundering case to probe alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during the period of its former principal Sandip Ghosh and others, the official sources said.
The ED has taken cognisance of a CBI FIR to file its Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), which equals to an FIR, under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

People who have been named in the CBI complaint are the ones accused in the ED Case as well, the sources said. The agency may soon issue summons to the accused for questioning and recording the statements.
Moreover, the CBI has booked Ghosh and three Kolkata-based private entities, including, Ma Tara Traders of Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Eshan Cafe of 4/1, Belgachia and Khama Louha.
Earlier on Sunday, the CBI raided the premises of Ghosh, ex-medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others in and around Kolkata in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
