Former Union Minister P Chidambaram has been granted interim protection from arrest by the CBI until July 3 in the INX Media Case. According to reports, Chidambaram's lawyer had approached the CBI seeking more time to appear for CBI's questioning. He also added that Chidambaram's plea for anticipatory bail is pending before the Delhi High Court.
Chidambaram, on Wednesday, filed an anticipatory bail again. He moved the Delhi High Court in connection with the INX media case shortly after moving an anticipatory bail plea earlier in the day with Delhi's Patiala House Court.
Chidambaram was asked to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 5. The Patiala House Court said that until then, no coercive action can be taken against him. The court also gave protection from arrest to P Chidambaram until next hearing.

The Delhi court has asked the Enforcement Directorate to come up with a reply on the anticipatory bail plea moved by P Chidambaram by June 5.

On February 28, Karti Chidambaram was arrested at the Chennai airport on his return from the UK for his alleged role in facilitating Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance for INX Media Ltd and its directors, Peter and Indrani Mukerjea.
Karti allegedly took service charges for getting the clearance to INX Media for receiving funds from abroad worth Rs 3.05 billion in 2007 when his father P Chidambaram was the Union finance minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
