The Supreme Court slammed the Kejriwal government and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) over theintroduction of amendments in the Delhi Master Plan, 2021.

The Kejriwal government previously noted that the proposed amendments are likely to provide relief to the traders.

The apex court asked the state government if the traffic conditions, fire safety and the safety of buildings in the city were taken into consideration before proposing the amendments.

The court sought an answer from the state government if any new measures were taken to tackle air pollution. It also asked whether an environmental impact assessment was conducted before proposing amendments to the master plan.

The bench has demanded an affidavit giving details on whether issues like safety of buildings, traffic congestion, parking and availability of civic amenities were taken into account before proposing the amendment.

Over 100 establishments have been shut in the sealing drive ordered against the misuse of residential properties for commercial use and non-payment of 'conversion charge'.

The court will hear the case again in a couple of weeks.
