'Coaching centres have become death chambers': Supreme Court lashes out over Delhi tragedy that killed 3

Taking suo motu cognisance of the death of three civil services aspirants in the Indian capital city of Delhi last month, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre, the Delhi government and the civic body regarding the safety norms they had prescribed so far.
The apex court also called out the coaching centres for running 'death chambers' where the lives of students were compromised.
“Coaching centres are playing with lives of aspirants who have come from different parts of the country,” a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan said.
"These places (coaching centres) have become death chambers. Coaching institutes can operate online unless there is full compliance of the safety norms and basic norms for a dignified life. Coaching centres are playing with the lives of aspirants who come from different parts of the country," the bench added.

Case transferred to CBI
Last week, the Delhi High Court transferred the probe into the deaths of the three students from Delhi Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure that the "public had no doubt" over the probe.
Meanwhile,New Delhi-based Rau's IAS Study Circle, the institute where the incident took place, said it was offering$59,689 (Rs 50 lakh) each to the families of the three students who drowned in the basement that illegally doubled up as a library.
"What we are offering is a Rs 50 lakh compensation to each one of the students who has lost his life," saidAdvocate Mohit Saraf representing the institute.
Saraf said that $29,844 each would be offered to the families right away and the remaining compensation amount would be paid once the institute's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abhishek Guptawas released from prison.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also constituted a panel to probe the drowning of the students while fixingthe responsibility, suggesting measures and recommending policy changes.
The committee will have to submit its final report in 30 days.
