Chinese man diagnosed with delusional love disorder; 'all women in school like me'

A 20-year-old Chinese man, diagnosed with a rare condition called delusional love disorder, has taken the internet by storm.

According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reports, second-year university student Liu strongly believed that all the women in his class fancied him.

With the passage of time, as his condition worsened, he started exhibiting "bold displays of love" in an inappropriate manner for his fellow female classmates.

The symptoms of this rare condition were detected in Liu in Feb 2024 and have deteriorated since then, reported SCMP.

Hailing from eastern China's Jiangsu province, Liu told Dr Lu Zhenjiao from Huai’an No. 3 People’s Hospital that "all the girls in school like me," as per SCMP.

The doctor revealed that Liu thought he was the "best-looking guy in the whole university".

“He (Liu) has brought much trouble to many of his schoolmates,” he added.

The outlet said that the women in his class refused his advances, but he still thought they were too shy to accept his affection.

Apart from this, other symptoms displayed by Liu included being excited all the time and a constant change in his behaviour.

He stayed up all night, spent money lavishly and also was distracted during classes. After this, he was sent to the hospital where the doctors diagnosed him with delusional love disorder.

Dr Lu, elucidating on the causes of the disorder said that they are mostly seen from March to April as the change in weather during the period leads to “fluctuation of endocrine levels in the body”.

He said that people suffering from the condition experience sleep loss and also get hyper.

“In more extreme cases, patients can become enraged and attack people,” Lu said as per SCMP.
