Raksha Bandhan 2026: 5 Bollywood songs that perfectly celebrate the special bond between brothers and sisters

Anime has definitely cemented itself as India's fastest-growing entertainment obsession. What was once a niche pastime for a small pocket of viewers has exploded into a mainstream cultural force post COVID, becoming the go-to content choice. From genre-defining hits in the action-driven Shounen space to romance and isekai stories carving out loyal fan bases, anime's reach in India now spans brand collaborations, box office numbers, and a rapidly professionalising convention circuit. As Anime India kicks off today in Mumbai, co-founders Neha Mehta and Mishaal Wanvari spoke exclusively about what's fuelling this rise and where it's headed next.

WION: How has the Indian anime audience changed in the last five years, both in size and in what they're consuming?

Neha and Mishaal: It's evolved so much after COVID especially. As you know, for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, the content has been anime as the first choice. And we have seen that evolve drastically. What we have seen in the data also is that there are more than 150 million anime fans in India. Because as you know, the content for younger generation is a bit limited in India. Our broadcast content has been targeted to a wider audience. While for Gen Z and young adult, there has been less. And anime has become the top choice because of that. And we have seen that grow a lot. And now we're seeing that continuously rise."

“That's what has led to, you know, you must have seen so many brand licencing deals also. Like the Kit Kat and One Piece collab, which happened recently. Then Naruto and Muscle Blaze. So there are many collabs; you can see the acceptance. Brands understand; you can see everyone understanding through the popularity of this audience. And 150 million is a small amount.”

WION: Which genres or titles have been the biggest gateway into anime for Indian audiences?

Neha and Mishaal: Mostly, I'll tell you, India has a lot of core markets of fandom. So you have a Shounen genre, which is the action genre, which has always been popular. But there's a huge chunk of the audience which likes romance. There is something called shoujo, which is targeting the female audience. That's also pretty big. And there is an entire genre called isekai, which is basically being reborn into another world, which is popular."

"So there are core pockets of so many different genres which people like. There is Shounen, which is more about serious and drama-based anime. There are multiple kinds. There's comedy. Because the genres are so many and the quantity being produced is so many. I think Japan produces more than 200 anime a year. That's one of the largest contents being produced as a series-based. So it's every year. And then anime goes to manga. So there are enough genres for people to like. But if you are to ask in pure numbers, action has always been the most popular. I mean, we saw with that Demon Slayer's record box office of almost 90 crores in India."

Also Read: Anime India Mumbai 2026: Naruto director Hayato Date to headline major convention at NESCO

WION: How has cosplay culture specifically grown alongside the anime boom in India?

Neha and Mishaal: So even for anyone who is watching their favourite characters, their favourite stories mould into life, it's a beautiful thing to see those characters, the stories, the plots. And you want to become that character. You want to try to be as close to that character. Because that character has played such an important part. These characters become like family to you once you keep watching them. And they inspire you, they motivate you."

Also Read: Naruto to nationwide fandom: How Anime and Manga became India's cultural bridge to Japan

"So cosplay has become huge. The art form. People are dressing as their favourite characters. And we would like to come to Anime India and experience it. We have three cosplay competitions ourselves. We have a grand cosplay. We have a closet cosplay. So we created a cosplay competition for a limited budget also. Because sometimes cosplay becomes very expensive. So we created a closet cosplay competition, which you only have to do. It's basically a budget cosplay. Then we also have gaming cosplay. So yeah, you should definitely attend each cosplay competition on each day of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (August 28-30). So you'll see the popularity of it."

WION: Is there real potential for India-Japan co-productions, or is India still primarily a consumption market?

Neha and Mishaal: Currently, India has been one of the largest consumption markets. I think for international Japanese companies, the preference has been second just to the US. It has been the biggest consumption market. But we are seeing co-productions happening more sooner than later. If you come to the event, there is a Japanese company called Avex. They have actually announced an anime idea contest. They are looking for Indian stories. And even Indian video proposals. And they are going to actually give a 1 million reward prize to the anime idea contest winners on Saturday."

"So their shortlist is going to be announced on Anime India Mumbai. And the winners will be finally announced at Anime India Hyderabad. So there are companies coming who are very interested in co-production. India has a dearth of mythology stories which are very similar to Japan or Asia. One of the number one anime in Japan is based on a Chinese historical story called Kingdom. And that's number one. Just imagine what we can do with India. So much history and so much mythology."

Also Read: Decoding Japan’s soft power and cultural influence India, others tend to overlook

WION: Where do you see Anime India — the event and the broader ecosystem — five years from now?

Neha and Mishaal: "So we see Anime India as a catalyst for growing the anime community and growing the anime business. So when I say growing the anime community, you know this place acts as a core event. Where everyone who loves anime can get together, meet each other, and look at their favourite shows and plots. I mean, if you just see Anime India this time, there are so many booths. There are so many anime-focused booths and experience zones which people would love to experience. That is on the basis of the fandom."

Also Read: My Bias, My Boss ep (5-8) review: Ha Gi-Da Reum chemistry leads to confession

"And we are doing Anime India in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Delhi, and we will be scaling that further. So right now Hyderabad is happening on 14th and 15th November. Then we will be having Bangalore, Kolkata, Delhi and continuing. And that's just the fandom. Then we want to grow the business. So if you see, we only allow officially licensed companies to sell merchandise. And when these companies are seeing the popularity of fandom, we see growth in licencing deals. We see potential for co-productions. So you know in Mumbai there are a lot of animation companies coming from India. They are meeting Japanese companies. We hope that Anime India acts as a catalyst not only to build the fandom but also to grow the business and India-Japan co-productions."

In an exclusive conversation with WION, Anime India co-founders Mishaal Wanvari and Neha Mehta spoke about how anime is steadily building its own ecosystem in the country, from cosplay to brand collaborations and much more.

And now we're seeing that continuously rise." “That's what has led to, you know, you must have seen so many brand licencing deals also. Like the Kit Kat and One Piece collab, which happened recently. Then Naruto and Muscle Blaze. So there are many collabs; you can see the acceptance. Brands understand; you can see everyone understanding through the popularity of this audience. And 150 million is a small amount.” WION: Which genres or titles have been the biggest gateway into anime for Indian audiences? Neha and Mishaal: Mostly, I'll tell you, India has a lot of core markets of fandom. So you have a Shounen genre, which is the action genre, which has always been popular. But there's a huge chunk of the audience which likes romance. There is something called shoujo, which is targeting the female audience. That's also pretty big. And there is an entire genre called isekai, which is basically being reborn into another world, which is popular." "So there are core pockets of so many different genres which people like. I mean, we saw with that Demon Slayer's record box office of almost 90 crores in India." Also Read: Anime India Mumbai 2026: Naruto director Hayato Date to headline major convention at NESCO WION: How has cosplay culture specifically grown alongside the anime boom in India? Neha and Mishaal: So even for anyone who is watching their favourite characters, their favourite stories mould into life, it's a beautiful thing to see those characters, the stories, the plots. And you want to become that character. You want to try to be as close to that character. Because that character has played such an important part. These characters become like family to you once you keep watching them. And they inspire you, they motivate you." Also Read: Naruto to nationwide fandom: How Anime and Manga became India's cultural bridge to Japan "So cosplay has become huge. So you'll see the popularity of it." WION: Is there real potential for India-Japan co-productions, or is India still primarily a consumption market? Neha and Mishaal: Currently, India has been one of the largest consumption markets. I think for international Japanese companies, the preference has been second just to the US. It has been the biggest consumption market. But we are seeing co-productions happening more sooner than later. If you come to the event, there is a Japanese company called Avex. They have actually announced an anime idea contest. They are looking for Indian stories. And even Indian video proposals. And they are going to actually give a 1 million reward prize to the anime idea contest winners on Saturday." "So their shortlist is going to be announced on Anime India Mumbai. So much history and so much mythology." Also Read: Decoding Japan’s soft power and cultural influence India, others tend to overlook WION: Where do you see Anime India — the event and the broader ecosystem — five years from now? Neha and Mishaal: "So we see Anime India as a catalyst for growing the anime community and growing the anime business. So when I say growing the anime community, you know this place acts as a core event. Where everyone who loves anime can get together, meet each other, and look at their favourite shows and plots. I mean, if you just see Anime India this time, there are so many booths. There are so many anime-focused booths and experience zones which people would love to experience. That is on the basis of the fandom." So right now Hyderabad is happening on 14th and 15th November.

Babita Singh Reporting movie review: Babita Singh Reporting is not the usual police drama that introduces a female cop with a slow-motion entry, sunglasses and a larger-than-life personality. Its "hero," Assistant Sub-Inspector Babita Singh, is the opposite of a fearless officer. At a police station in Bhopal, she spends more time pleasing her seniors instead of doing the kind of fieldwork she actually wants to do. At home, things are no better. Her family members have mastered the art of taking her for granted, and Babita, a.k.a Baby, rarely knows how to push back.

Directed by Ambiecka Pandit and written by Amita Vyas, Babita Singh Reporting uses a murder investigation as the backdrop for a much more personal story.

Plot of Babita Singh Reporting

The 2-hour-11-minute film follows Babita Singh, played by Nimisha Sajayan, who works as an ASI in Bhopal. But the field job she has been waiting for remains out of reach. She joined the police force on compassionate grounds and wants to prove herself as a capable officer.

Her habit of agreeing to almost anything people ask of her soon creates problems of its own.

The punishment that follows gives Babita a two-week break from work, which she uses to travel to her in-laws' home in Rewa with her husband Sharad (Anshumaan Pushkar).

After reaching the city, she unexpectedly meets her childhood friend Bansi (Barun Sobti), who now makes Ravana effigies for Dussehra. Bansi wants to speak to her about something important, but Babita soon gets busy with family duties. Her sister-in-law's baby shower becomes her new responsibility, and as usual, Baby puts everyone else's needs before her own.

Before she gets the chance to meet Bansi again, tragedy strikes. When Babita begins to question the circumstances surrounding his death, she finds little help from the people around her. The doubts, however, refuse to leave her, and she gradually begins looking into the matter herself.

As Babita's unofficial investigation takes her deeper into Bansi's life, the mystery becomes something more than uncomfortable truths and unexpected connections. At the same time, her personal life becomes increasingly difficult to manage. Between her demanding in-laws and a complicated marriage, Babita finds it harder to separate her role as a police officer from her role as the "ideal" daughter-in-law.

Also Read: New OTT releases this week (August 24-30, 2026): Babita Singh Reporting, Chumbak, Bandar- Watch these 5 titles coming on Netflix, Prime Video and more

The rest of Babita Singh Reporting follows her attempt to uncover what really happened to Bansi while also dealing with her family demands. The deeper she goes, the more complicated both the case and her own life become.

What works

The best part about Babita Singh Reporting is, of course, Nimisha Sajayan. She plays the lead character as a truly ordinary woman who is constantly underestimated but is not without strength. Babita is overweight, insecure and accustomed to being the target of indirect remarks about her body. Yet she skillfully hides how much those comments hurt. The character makes mistakes, hesitates, and doubts herself, but her growth as an investigator and as a person happens gradually.

The film has done a good job of showcasing that women are not always treated badly through dramatic acts alone. Sometimes the control is hidden inside jokes, taunts, financial expectations and the assumption that a woman will always adjust.

The cast is strong, even though several actors do not get as much material as they deserve.

Anshumaan Pushkar plays Sharad with an ambiguity that works well for the character. His behaviour gradually reveals how easily a supposedly supportive husband can become manipulative.

Barun Sobti has limited screen time, but Bansi's importance to the story remains significant.

Also Read: Toxic BO day 2: Yash's starrer sees sharp drop after Rs 100 crore opening

Rajesh Kumar is effective as Babita's opportunistic senior, but the film could have explored his character further.

Sunita Rajwar is also good as Babita's difficult mother-in-law. She makes the character frustrating without looking artificial.

The remaining actors have also delivered solid performances. The problem in the film is not the acting; it is that several characters who initially seem important are given too little to do as the film moves forward.

The murder investigation takes a while to develop, but once Babita begins uncovering connections, the narrative starts gaining momentum. The mystery also works because Babita is personally connected to the victim. And the final revelation does not go exactly where one may expect it to.

What doesn't work

The film's biggest problem is its pacing. While one will not be bored, the first half often makes you feel that the story is taking too long to get to the point.

Babita keeps moving from one clue to another, but for a while, very little comes out of her efforts. The feeling becomes: yes, we understand she is investigating; now tell us where the investigation is actually going?

The second half works better because the mystery starts taking shape.

Also Read: Toxic spark hilarious meme fest: Netizens call Yash' film 'out of syllabus'

One of the first things that stands out is the number of characters introduced early in the story. The film makes it seem as if many of them will eventually receive detailed subplots. That does not really happen, and the focus ultimately remains on Babita. This works for the protagonist, but it leaves several supporting characters feeling underdeveloped.

The film repeatedly delays progress in the investigation, and some of these stretches feel repetitive.

To sum it up, the film sometimes feels like it is juggling too many stories at once, but not every one of them is explored with the depth it deserves.

Verdict

Yes, the film is engaging, but it remains an uneven mystery. It is not a fast-paced crime thriller, and viewers expecting a sharp, constant twist may find the first half a little slow.

But it has something more interesting to say about its protagonist. Babita's biggest case is not just Bansi's murder; it is her own journey from being a woman who exists to keep everyone else happy to someone who begins believing in her own instincts.

However, slow pacing and underused characters prevent the film from becoming a fully gripping thriller.

Still, Babita Singh Reporting is worth watching for Nimisha Sajayan's performance and its attempt to tell a crime story through the life of a woman who has spent far too long being told to stay in her place.

Her final lines, “I am innocent. Always have been. Always will be,” echoed the conviction that has been an integral part of Rhea’s journey. The show gave audiences the opportunity to see her beyond the narratives and headlines, allowing them to discover her personality, humour, vulnerability and strength.

Fearless, resilient, and confident, Rhea embraced the unpredictable nature of the game while building genuine connections along the way. Her emotional goodbye also showed how deeply the experience had affected her, particularly the friendships and bonds she formed during her time in the ‘Circle of Shaq’.

Finding strands of hair on your pillow, in the shower or on your hairbrush can be worrying. For many people, the first thought is, ‘Am I going bald?’ The truth is that not all hair loss is the same. Understanding the difference between hair shedding and hair fall can help you know when it's a normal part of your hair cycle and when it's time to seek medical advice.

Hair shedding is a natural process. Every hair follicle follows a cycle of growth, transition and rest. At the end of this cycle, the old hair sheds to make way for a new one. Losing around 50 to 100 strands of hair a day is completely normal, and in most cases, these hairs grow back without any treatment.

However, there are times when shedding increases temporarily. This can happen after a high fever, illness, surgery, childbirth, emotional stress, rapid weight loss or nutritional deficiencies. During these periods, more hair follicles enter the resting phase together, leading to increased shedding. While it can look alarming, this type of hair loss is often temporary and improves once the underlying trigger is addressed.

What is Hair fall?

Hair fall, on the other hand, is usually linked to changes within the hair follicle itself. Genetics, hormonal imbalances, ageing, certain medical conditions and chronic inflammation can gradually weaken the hair follicle, causing hair to become thinner over time. You may notice a widening parting, a receding hairline, visible thinning of the scalp or reduced hair density. Unlike temporary shedding, this type of hair loss often progresses if the underlying cause is not identified and treated.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that every type of hair loss can be treated with the same shampoo, supplement or home remedy. In reality, hair loss has multiple causes, and successful treatment begins with understanding what is happening beneath the surface.

Dr. Mehak Gupta Assistant Professor, Department of Dermatology, Noida International Institue of Medical Sciences (NIIMS) Medical College & Hospital, Greater Noida, explained in detail when to worry about hair fall, at what point shedding should be taken seriously, and the reasons behind it.

‘’Losing hair from the scalp can be common and does not automatically indicate that a problem with hair exists. Indeed, loss of old hair will allow for the birth of new ones as part of the cycle, and it is safe to say that losing 50-100 hairs per day is normal, as this can vary among people. While there might be occasional shedding of hair, there is no need to be concerned if hair remains thick as always, and you continue to grow new hair. An actual problem is present when shedding increases significantly and becomes noticeable for some time. Shedding of hair can become excessive after fever, stress, weight loss, insufficient nutrition, illnesses, surgeries, hormonal changes, etc. Also, some medications can lead to increased shedding of hair.''

Speaking on the shedding, Dr Gupta said that, ‘’It is mainly defined as the loss of hair that forms a part of the hair growth cycle. Hair loss, on the other hand, involves the decrease in hair density or lack of normal hair regrowth. Hair loss that is sudden, extreme, constant or associated with the visible thinning of the hair must be medically addressed. It is important to consult a doctor about hair loss if bald patches, inflammation of the scalp or any scaling occur with itchiness, pain, or loss of eyebrows.
Moreover, loss of hair that comes with symptoms like fatigue, changes in weight or irregularities in menstruation may also need diagnosis. This is due to nutritional deficiency, thyroid issues and hormonal changes may prevent the hair from growing properly. The treatment should only be administered after establishing the real cause of hair loss instead of following some magic solutions advertised on social networks.''

Concluding her explanation, she said, ‘’It is considered typical to have some hair falling every day. Unlike many other areas of medicine, hair science currently lacks a structured prognostic indicator to objectively assess future hair health. The patent-pending QR678 Hair Biology Protocol was developed to address this gap by introducing what is believed to be the first structured Hair Ageing Index (HAI) and Hair Biology Score, bringing greater objectivity and consistency to hair assessment. Rather than focusing only on visible hair loss, the protocol helps doctors understand the biological health of the hair follicle. Instead of relying solely on subjective examination, patients are evaluated using the Hair Biology Score and Hair Ageing Index, which help clinicians assess overall hair biology, identify underlying patterns of hair loss, monitor changes over time, and personalise treatment strategies based on an individual's hair biology rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Munawar said, “Later I came to know they were all pre-planning against me. Tab dhakka laga tha, tab Bura laga tha… sab ne milkar already pre-planned kiya hua hai mere khilaaf.” (Later, when I came to know that they were all pre-planning against me, that was a shock. Known for his ability to read people and situations, the experience also gave him a different perspective on trust, alliances, and the psychological side of the game.
