Sharmin Segal has to move forward from this, work harder now: Heeramandi's Jayati Bhatia

Jayati Bhatia and Sharmin Segal

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece and actress Sharmin Segal has been receiving a lot of flak online because of her performance in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Some netizens are also unhappy with the actress' responses and interaction with the rest of the cast in latest interviews. Several viral clips show tension between the actresses.

Her co-star Jayati Bhatia, who played Phatto Bi in the web series, recently came forward to extend her support. He said that Segal needs to move on and work harder in upcoming projects.

In an interview to ABP’s Entertainment Live, Bhatia said, "This is a very important phase in her career, in her life. After this, she will only get better. This is the first step, she’s done Malaal, but here she’s worked under the guidance for Mr Bhansali, under his direction, so this is her first thing. Now she has to prove herself."

Bhatia added, "In the next work that she does, she cannot rely on (the same acting style). She has to move forward from this, and show people, while remaining true to the story… She has to work harder now."

Segal plays Alamzeb in the series. She is the daughter of Mallikajaan, played by Manisha Koirala. It also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, and Shekhar Suman.

Wion's review of Heeramandi reads:To its credit, the show has some terrific performances from its leading ladies. Sonakshi Sinha has found her footing in the digital space after years of doing cringe-masala potboilers. Sinha as the calculative, sharp and slightly conniving Fareedan is a such delight to watch on screen. Sinha had delivered a strikingly different performance in last year's critically acclaimedDahaad.
Her performanceinHeeramandishows her versatility as an actor and she doesn't disappoint. Complementing her is Manisha Koirala who adopts a deep baritone to play the menacing, controlling Mallika Jaan for whom power is above all kinds of familial bonding. Koirala and Bhansali collaborate after two long decades. Their last outingKhamoshiwas a poignant coming-of-age story. Check out the full review here!
