SS Rajamouli has reportedly planned to release Varanasi in 50 languages in approximately 120 countries. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the filmmaker will use human voice artists instead of AI.
The buzz around SS Rajamouli's Varanasi continues to intensify since its announcement, and now the filmmaker has planned to take the upcoming epic to another level. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the project is being prepared for a release in approximately 120 countries, with dubbed versions planned in nearly 50 languages.
But the report that has grabbed attention claims that Rajamouli has taken a decision to use human voice artists instead of AI-generated voices. The filmmaker is said to be prioritising the emotional quality of the original performances.
Why Rajamouli prefers human voices
As per a report by Mid-Day, the filmmaker is focusing on ensuring that the performances do not lose their emotional impact when Varanasi is presented in different languages. "Rajamouli [doesn’t want] the performance to get diluted when the film moves from one language to another. For him, dubbing is not just about translating the dialogue and matching the lip movements. The voice has to carry the emotion, personality, and intent of the character. Rajamouli wants the audience in every market to experience the performance, not just know the dialogue," a source close to the production told the publication.

Revealing that the process is expected to be extensive, the source added, "The voice is an extension of that performance, so he wants real artistes behind the different language versions. Over 1500 artistes’ works will be sampled before choosing the voices for the final cut."
Earlier, the filmmaker had addressed speculation surrounding the use of AI in the creation of Varanasi's glimpse.

Rejecting the claims, he described the suggestion as “a huge insult to their artistic genius”.
About Varanasi
The dubbed versions of the film are expected to cover several Indian and international languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, French, Spanish, German, Arabic, Japanese and Korean, among others.
Varanasi is scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 7, 2027, and is also expected to be presented in IMAX.
