It finally happened! Naatu Naatu from RRR has been declared the Best Orginal Song at Oscar Awards 2023. The smash hit song which created hysteria worldwide has fetched music composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose the coveted Oscar award.
The Oscar was presented by Bollywood starDeepika Padukone on Sunday night in Los Angeles where the Oscar award ceremony is underway.
Sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kumar Bhairava, who also performed the song at the event, Naatu Naatu is a Telugu song that transcended borders and languages and became a global phenomenon. Its viral hook step has been copied by people across the world in viral videos.
On Sunday night, the leading men of RRR, Ram Charan and NTR Jr, who also featured in the song, were present at the ceremony to cheer for their film. The film's maker Ss Rajamouli was also present.
Naatu Naatu is the second Indian song to have won the Oscars. Previously, AR Rehman and Gulzar had won in the same category for the song Jai Ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire. The song is first from an Indian production to win an Oscar.
The song beat fellow nominees Rihanna and Lady Gaga to win the award.
