Last Friday saw two big Bollywood films releasing in theaters. One was Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer 'Luka Chuppi' and the other was Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpayee and Bhumi Pednekar's 'Sonchiriya'. While the genres of the two films were different, both got mostly good reviews from critics.

At the box office though, there has been a clear winner. 'Luka Chuppi' emerged a winner by earning Rs. 40.03 crore within four days of its release, ‘Sonchiriya’ failed to make a mark on the box office with only Rs. 4.60 crore.

While `Luka Chuppi` emerged a winner by earning Rs 40.03 crore in its first weekend, ‘Sonchiriya’ failed to make a mark on the box office with only Rs. 4.60 crore.

Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office figures of both the films.

He wrote, "#LukaChuppi is winning hearts and wooing BO... Makes most of the partial holiday [#Mahashivratri] on Day 4... Mon is at par with Fri... Will comfortably cross ₹ 50 cr in Week 1... Fri 8.01 cr, Sat 10.08 cr, Sun 14.04 cr, Mon 7.90 cr. Total: ₹ 40.03 cr. India biz."

“#SonChiriya won tremendous acclaim, but, unfortunately, it did not convert into footfalls and numbers... Did improve slightly on Day 2 and 3, but the weekend total remains extremely low... Fri 1.20 cr, Sat 1.50 cr, Sun 1.90 cr. Total: RS 4.60 cr. India biz,” he wrote in another tweet.

Kartik and Kriti’s ‘Luka Chuppi’ also made it to the list of top five openers of 2019. Adarsh took to his Twitter and shared the top five openers of 2019.

After ‘Gully Boy, ‘Total Dhamaal’, ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ and ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, ‘Luka Chuppi’ became the fifth highest weekend opener of 2019.

‘Luka Chuppi’ sees Kartik and Kriti as a couple who are in love and inspired by the concept of live-in relationship, decide to live together without actually tying the knot.  Read 'Luka Chuppi' review here.

Everything seems to be working out fine till their respective families get involved and Kartik’s parents start living with them.

Meanwhile, Sushant`s film is a dacoit drama, directed by Abhishek Chaubey. Set in the 1970s, `Sonchiriya` also features Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana in key roles.
