American actor Chase Stokes, best known for the role of John B Routledge in the series Outer Banks, has revealed about the toll the Netflix show took on his body after it came to an end. He also revealed that, along with his physical health, his mental health also deteriorated significantly after years of maintaining his physique for the role.
Chase Stokes on facing health complications post completion of Outer Banks
In an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter, Chase Stokes revealed that the physical and mental toll of maintaining his teenage character's physique led to severe health issues, including partial liver and kidney failure, after wrapping the show's final season. Stokes stated that his liver and kidney were failing and that he might not have lasted much longer without immediate intervention.
He also said that his blood tests showed his testosterone levels were alarmingly low for a 33-year-old man. He then began routine blood tests every two weeks and worked with an internal medicine doctor to get his body to a healthy baseline. The actor noted his brain was "all out of whack" from years of intense filming schedules and the isolated conditions of shooting during the pandemic.
