Vivek Oberoi is gearing up for a mythological role in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, but long before he became a familiar face in Bollywood, his journey to the big screen was far from easy. In an interview, his father, Suresh Oberoi, recalled the struggles of launching his son in the film industry. He revealed that he had to go door-to-door to grab an opportunity for Vivek.

Suresh Oberoi recalls the struggle for son Vivek’s debut

In an interview with Nidhi Vasandani on her YouTube channel, Suresh Oberoi recalled the struggling phase before Vivek’s acting debut. He said, “I had to struggle for him again and went door-to-door. Like I used to take my pictures, now I was taking Vivek’s pictures.”

Suresh Oberoi further added that he got a chance to launch his son, Vivek Oberoi, in Bollywood. He shared that while he was working with Ram Gopal Varma, the filmmaker was looking for an actor for his crime thriller Company and asked him to show a tape of Vivek’s acting. After watching his son’s performance, Ram Gopal Varma was immediately impressed and eventually cast him in the film alongside Ajay Devgn, Mohanlal, Manisha Koirala and others.

He later said that he felt immense pride after seeing Vivek Oberoi in his first Bollywood film, Company, and admitted that it brought tears to his eyes. Since then, Vivek has delivered several memorable performances throughout his career, but according to Suresh Oberoi, Saathiya holds a special place in his heart as his favourite film featuring his son.

Vivek Oberoi on his early career: 'A flying shoe came towards me'

In one of his interviews with CNN-News18, Vivek Oberoi recalled his theatre days at Mithibai College in Mumbai. He shared that an angry audience member threw a shoe at him on stage while he was playing a minor guard role with no dialogue and simply standing in the background like a prop.

Oberoi said, "They gave me a useless role that had no dialogues. I just had to stand in the background like a guard, holding a spear. Meanwhile, the guy who got the lead role kept forgetting his dialogues, which I remembered well.”

“I was so frustrated, thinking, ‘I have earned so many awards, and you still made me a prop?’ In frustration, I stood there, leaning my head against the spear," he added.

The actor revealed that his casual attitude during the performance led to an unforgettable moment: “Suddenly, a shoe came flying towards me. Luckily, I moved my face, and the shoe hit my shoulder and fell behind me. I felt so angry and considered storming out.”

Vivek Oberoi's role in Ramayana

Vivek Oberoi was recently seen in the comedy film Mastiii 4. The actor is now gearing up for a mythological role in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming grand saga, Ramayana, which will be released in two parts, with the first part slated for Diwali 2026. He will play Vidyutjihva, the demon husband of Shurpanakha, who is portrayed by Rakul Preet Singh.

For the unversed, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 6, 2026, arriving just ahead of Diwali, while the second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
