Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has equaled David Warner's Indian Premier League (IPL) record of scoring 500 or more runs in seven seasons. Kohli reached the milestone by scoring 70 not outagainst Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 28.
Kohli now has exact 500 runs in 10 matches played this season at a strike rate of 147 and an average of 71. Prior to the current season, he had scored 500 or more runs in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2023 as well. Kohli had amassed 557 runs in 2011 in 16 games, 634 runs in 2013 in 16 games, 505 runs in 2015 in 16 games, 973 runs in 2016 in 16 games, 530 runs in 2018 in 14 games, and 639 runs in 2023 in 14 games.
Warner, on the other hand, had scored 500 or more runs in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2023. The Australian, who has 6,564 runs in 183 IPL games, had scored 528, 562, 848, and 641 runs from 2014-17 respectively. He had hit 692 runs in 2019, 548 runs in 2020, and 516 runs in 2023.
As for Kohli, he recently also became the first batsman to score 400 or more runs in 10 IPL seasons. Before the 2024 season, Kohli had scored 400 or more runs in 2023, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2013, and 2011. His 973 runs in 2016 season is still a league record for the most runs in a single season for a batter,
Overall, Kohli has 7,693 runs in 246 IPL matches at an average of 38.27 and a strike rate of 130.90. He has scored league-record eight hundreds as well with a highest of 113. His IPL runs are also a league record for most runs in the league.
