
Bookmyshow is in the spotlight following summons issued by the economic offence wing of the Mumbai police.
CEO Ashish Hemrajani and the company’s technical head are required to appear before the investigative officer regarding allegations of black-market ticket sales for the upcoming Coldplay concert.
This comes after a complaint was filed by Mumbai-based lawyer Amit Vyas. He claimed that Bookmyshow engaged in dishonest practices, hindering legitimate fans from securing tickets during the official sale that commenced on September 22.
The complaint alleges that during the ticket sales, which attracted over 13 million fans logging in, Many legitimate users were either logged out or blocked from accessing the site. This created an opportunity for ticket bots and black-market sellers.
Tickets quickly disappeared from the official site and reappeared on secondary resale platforms like Viagogo at inflated prices. Vyas has indicated his intention to file a first information report under multiple provisions. This includes organised crime, fraud, and breach of trust, further complicating the situation for Bookmyshow.
In response to the allegations, Bookmyshow has issued a statement emphasising its commitment to fair ticketing practices. The company implemented a queuing system to manage the overwhelming demand and capped ticket purchases at four per user. Additionally, Bookmyshow clarified that it has no affiliation with secondary resale sites, asserting that it has filed complaints regarding counterfeit tickets being sold by unauthorised platforms.
