US man jailed for stabbing neighbour to death over his ‘loud snoring’

A man from Philadelphia, US recently pleaded guilty to killing his neighbour over an argument about loud snoring. 56-year-old Christopher Casey was sentenced to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in prison over the involuntary manslaughter of 62-year-old Robert Wallace.

As per CBS, the two men shared a common wall in a duplex they were both living in. Robert Wallace had grown frustrated over Casey’s loud snoring and even had an argument in January. The loud snoring had adversely affected Wallace’s health and ability to sleep, as per reports.

As per prosecutors, a disgruntled Wallace broke into Casey’s first-floor window and threatened to kill him over his annoying habit.

It led to an argument between the two men. In a dramatic turn of events, Wallace settled down after 20 minutes and offered Casey to bear expenses for his surgery to stop snoring. But not believing a word from Wallace’s mouth, Casey armed himself with a “large military-style knife” and a taser. And then, he allegedly stabbed Wallace three times in the chest to death.

Guardian reported that Casey had also stabbed himself in the right thigh and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

“I attacked my neighbour. He came to attack me,” Casey reportedly told the emergency services. Casey’s defence lawyer, James Lyons, argued that his life was in danger as Wallace had threatened him multiple times in the past.

He also called Casey “a really good man who was not equipped to deal with this type of sustained abuse and threats”.

“He was terrified of this guy, and he believed that he had no option,” argued the lawyer.

Standing in the court on Wednesday, Casey apologised to Wallace’s family, saying the incident had been “unfortunate”.
