Usha Vance and JD Vance
JD Vance has hit out at white supremacists who have attacked his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance since he was announced as the Republican vice-presidential candidate last month.
The Ohio senator's wife is of Indian-American origin and has faced brutal racism due to her heritage on social media platforms with many MAGA supporters leading the hate campaign.
“Look, my attitude to these people attacking my wife is, she’s beautiful, she’s smart. What kind of man marries Usha? A very smart man and a very lucky man, importantly,” Vance was quoted as saying on ABC News’s “This Week” on Sunday (Aug 11).
“And my view is, look, if these guys want to attack me or attack my views, my policy views, my personality, come after me. But don’t attack my wife. She’s out of your league.”
Vance was referring to attacks from Nick Fuentes, a White Supremacist who has previously dined with Donald Trump at his Florida Mar-a-Lago home" in 2022.
Quizzed about Trump's connection with Fuentes, Vance said, “Well, Donald Trump doesn’t know anything about, and frankly, doesn’t care for [Fuentes].
Notably, Trump had blamed Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, for bringing the white supremacist to his dinner at the time.
Fuentes reacted angrily after Trump announced Vance as his running mate for the election and went on an unhinged tirade on his podcast.
"Who is this guy, really? Do we really expect that the guy who has an Indian wife and named their kid Vivek is going to support white identity?" he said.
Fuentes even went on about the 'non-traditional' marriage of Usha and JD whilst describing the latter as a 'power-hungry' sociopath.
"Another power-hungry sociopath with the put-on folksy Rustbelt act, obligatory non-combat tour in the Middle East, non-traditional marriage, and conspicuously rapid political ascendancy."
Vance is the Republican Pete Buttigieg.

Apart from making racist comments, Fuentes is also known for denying the Holocaust.
Notably, Usha is an accomplished lawyer by profession and has been with JD since they met at Yale University in 2014 during their law degree course. JD Vance's memoir describes her as his “Yale spirit guide". He credits her for helping him navigate life at the elite university where they met. The couple has three children.
