Heavy rain washes cold lava and debris through Philippines village - see pics

Cold lava was seen streaming down the slopes of the famous Mount Kanlaon Natural Park in the Philippines after an explosive eruption on Monday. In social media posts, torrents of grey mud and rocks are seen flowing through Biaknabato village in Negros Occidental province.

Philippine officials Tuesday orderedevacuation of villagers living near the volcano in the central Philippines after an eruption emitted a five-kilometre-high ash cloud.

Government officials issued a warning of further eruptions of theKanlaon volcano, deadly ash fall, and sulfuric odour. The local media reported that the eruption also caused the cancellation of several flights.

"Go down to your respective evacuation centres, be vigilant, and prepare important things such as water and food," said Jose Chubasco Cardenas, mayor of Canlaon City in Negros Oriental province. Cardenas issued the evacuation order via Facebook for residents in four communities near the volcano.

Governor Jose Lacson told DWPM radio station that more than 700 people were taking shelter in evacuation centres in the nearby Negros Occidental province.

"We advise them to stay there, and for those not yet in evacuation centres, I hope they can reconsider."

Meanwhile, heavy rain washed volcanic mud and debristhrough a village in the central Philippines on Wednesday, two days after a nearby volcano erupted.

In the images and videos shared on social media, residents can be seen walking barefoot through thick sludge covering a road in the village, located a few kilometres from the volcano.

"The lahar on the streets is knee-deep," Stills Fernandez of the municipal disaster agency told the news agency AFP.
