The announcement came on Sunday

This year marks the 20th death anniversary of Princess Diana and Kensington Palace on Sunday confirmed that her sons Prince William and Harry have chosen sculptor Ian Rank-Broadleyto create a statue of their mother.

In a statement Sunday, the two brothers reflected on their emotional past few months and the idea tocreate "a fitting and lasting tribute to our mother".

William and Harry said, "We have been touched by the kind words and memories so many people have shared about our mother over these past few months. It is clear the significance of her work is still felt by many in the U.K. and across the world, even 20 years after her death."

Commenting on Ian's work, they said, "Ian is an extremely gifted sculptor and we know that he will create a fitting and lasting tribute to our mother. We look forward to unveiling the statue, which will allow all those who visit Kensington Palace to remember and celebrate her life and legacy.”

The sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley is not new to royal ranks as he has previously been responsible for the image of Queen Elizabeth II that has appeared on British coins since 1998. His work on Princess Diana's statue is expected to finish by 2019.

The statueonce finished will beplaced on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where Diana once lived.
