After buying 9.2% stake, Musk comes up with another poll; Twitter CEO cautions users

Days after grabbing a multibillion-dollar stake in Twitter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has started to throw his weight around at the microblogging site.

Musk, who is famous for his Twitter polls, has come up with another. He has asked users if they want an edit button. The users were given only two choices: “yes” or no.

"Do you want an edit button?" tweeted Musk, who recently procured a 9.2 per cent stake in the social media company, worth nearly US $3bn, making him its largest shareholder.

According to aSecurities and Exchange Commissionfiling published on Monday, Musk owns 73,486,938 Twitter shares.

Within minutes, the poll drew more than two million responses with about 73.6 per cent voting yes.

However, the most prominent response came from Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal.

"The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully," he tweeted.

Musk, who had a long and complicated relationship with the social media platform, had recently revealed that he acquired a stake in Twitter.

This came after questioning Twitter's commitment to free speech and asking the users if a new platform was needed.

"Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?," he tweeted.

"Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?" Musk said, adding, "Is a new platform needed?"

There has always been a demand for an edit button on Twitter. On April 1, the company tweeted that it was working on an edit button.

But many were confused about whether the social media company was playing a prank on April Fool’s Day.
