Trending | World | This quirky moment with Pope Francis and the bourbon bottles quickly captured the media's attention, becoming a trending topic and sparking discussions globally.
Last year in February, Pope Francis was seen signing two bottles of bourbon, an act that amused many at that time. It all started when Reverend Jim Sichko, a Kentucky-based Roman Catholic priest, met the Pope in Public and quickly took out two bottles of the drink. As absurd as the act may sound, it was for a good cause. Sichko did so intending to raise money for local organisations for public welfare, and he was even successful in it. After the Pope’s signature, the bourbon bottles were sold for over £24,000, and the money was used for community causes.
"I just pulled out the bottle of bourbon with a pen, and he looked at me and he signed it," Sichko said, The Sky News reported.
Pope Francis died at the age of 88 on Monday (April 21). Just two months before his demise, the Pope has authored a book on February 7 that is scheduled to be published on April 24.
The Vatican also confirmed that the funeral will be held at 10 am local time (4:00 am ET) on Saturday. As per the Apostolic Constitution, the funeral should be held between the fourth and sixth days after the pope's death.
The Vatican City has released the preface of the book: “Awaiting a New Beginning. Reflections on Old Age.” The book was written in Italian by Cardinal Angelo Scola, Archbishop Emeritus of Milan. The Vatican Publishing House (LEV) has published the book that will be available in bookstores by Thursday (April 24).
