“We found it just hanging out on our dock this morning and we gently scooped it up with some cardboard and carefully put it back in the water,” said one of the whale watchers, while speaking to the outlet.

In the footage, a long and undulating blood worm was seen having rows of hairlike appendages on each side of its body.

The netizens freaked out by seeing such a worm crawling ashore, as one called it the “stuff of nightmares.”

“Hey that’s my lower digestive system,” said one user, while another called the animal a “nope rope.”

All about this marine monster

This alien-looking marine monster is actually a blood worm, one kind of burrowing invertebrate. It was named so because the red body plasma underneath its translucent skin is visible.

It has the capacity to grow a foot long and its teeth are accompanied by a venomous proboscis - which is said to be as hard as that of humans.

The proboscis of the blood worm shoots out and ensnares its prey. However, the worm is not known to go after humans.

The experts, however, advise people to not place one's fingers near its mouth since it can give a beesting-like bite.

The blood worm is able to easily attract fish which is why it is used as bait by the anglers.
