In the United States, a couple, Anthony and Rachel Modrow, has been arrested following the death of their nine-year-old daughter due to an asthma attack. Reports from Metro indicate that instead of seeking immediate medical helpwhen their daughter named Amy suffered the attack at a friend's house in Minneapolis, Minnesota, her parents opted to give her a bath, and neglect her symptoms.
Allegedly, they did not careto call an ambulance for three hours until emergency services were finally contacted via 911.
The Modrows now face charges of second-degree manslaughter for their purported failure to provide necessary care and protection totheir child.
Court documents reveal that during the ordeal, Amy informed her friend's mother that she only had her grandmother's inhaler available.
According to court documents referenced in the Metro report, the woman then contacted Anthony, who sighed and passed the phone to Rachel. Rachel, in turn, requested for Amy to be brought home. Despite being informed by the woman that Amy's asthma attack was genuine and offering to take her to the doctor, Amy's parents declined the assistance.
Three hours later, Amy's aunt contacted a family friend who arrived at the Modrow residence and observed alarming symptoms: Amy's skin had turned blue, she struggled to move her hand, and she was crying. While Rachel went to prepare a steam bath for Amy, Anthony neglected to refill her inhaler, as recounted by the family friend in the court documents.
Recognising the severity of Amy's condition, the family friend took her out of the house and dialed 911 at 10:40 am, three hours after the onset of Amy's asthma attack, as evidenced by phone records. Amy was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center, where doctors were unable to detect a pulse. She was declared brain dead due to oxygen deprivation.
Subsequent investigations revealed that doctors believed Amy would have had a significantly higher chance of survival with immediate medical intervention, as detailed in the documents.
