<h2><strong>What happened with Gill?</strong></h2>

<p>On the third ball of the eight over, a wonderful delivery from Naseem Shah was edged by Gill and it bisected Iftikhar Ahmed (in first slip) and Salman Agha (second slip). However, much to everyone's surprise the ball was not clutched by any fielder and Gill survived due to the lapse. The ball easily flew past the slip fielders while no one attempted to catch the ball.</p>

<p>It reminded fans of Pakistan’s poor show in the field, where they have developed a reputation for poor show. In 2008, a similar incident took place when Pakistan were playing West Indies in UAE. Pakistan fielder Saeed Ajmal failed to catch a lofted shot from Chris Gayle as he and Shoaib Malik approached. <p>Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has predicted the highest run-getter in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023&nbsp;being held in India. The forthcoming mega event will kick off in the subcontinent on October 05 with the defending champions Jos Buttler-led England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad whereas hosts Rohit Sharma-led India face Australia, in Chennai, on October 08.</p>

<p>Kallis, a legend who represented South Africa in 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is, feels England captain Buttler will end up as the leading run-scorer in the upcoming edition. In the last edition, in England and Wales, Rohit Sharma ended with 648 runs -- most by any batter.</p>

<p>"I think Jos Butler will be the leading run scorer. An outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions. Along with England having a good World Cup, I think, um, me, he's going to be the one guy that stands up," said Kallis while speaking to the ICC.</p>

Overall, he&nbsp;has scored 3,223 runs from 96 IPL matches, at an impressive strike-rate of 148.32.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Buttler doesn't have a good ODI record in India -- having managed&nbsp;83 runs in eight matches so far at an average of&nbsp;11. Thus, he has a task to improve his record and help England successfully defend their title. <p>Hardik Pandya-led India thrashed West Indies by nine wickets to win the fourth and penultimate T20I, in Florida, and level the five-match series on Saturday (August 12). Opting to bat first, Rovman Powell-led Windies piled up 178 for 8&nbsp;courtesy of Shai Hope's 45 and Shimron Hetmyer's 61. The total proved to be inadequate as Yashasvi Jaiswal (84 not out) and Shubman Gill (77) stitched a mammoth 165-run first-wicket stand to chase down the score in 17 overs.</p>

<p>With the ball, Arshdeep Singh (3 for 38) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 26) did the job for India to keep the Windies below the 200-run mark before Jaiswal-Gill stood tall. The opening duo ran hard between wickets and found the boundaries at regular intervals, smarting targetting the bowlers, to take India to a&nbsp;dominating win. After the clash, former Indian batter Robin Uthappa made a big claim.</p>

<p>Asked to chase 179, the Indian team started on the front foot as out-of-form Gill found his touch in the US. Both took the attack to&nbsp;the opposition and scored 66 runs in the powerplay to assert their dominance. Both Gill and Jaiswal picked their spots to help India to a good start in the must-win contest. After 10 overs, India were 100 and on course for a superb win.</p>

<p>India would lose Gill in the dying stage of the contest as he departed for 77 off 47 balls. His innings contained 3 fours and 5 sixes it was his second fifty of the West Indies series. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 84 off 51 with 11 fours and 3 sixes while he played in his second T20I match. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on seven as India eased off to the win.</p>

<p>Earlier, West Indies justified their decision of batting first as they put on 178/8 in their 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer top scored with 61 runs off 39 deliveries. He was well supported by Shai Hope who scored 45 but missed out on a fifty. Kyle Mayers and Brandon King scored 17 and 18 respectively before the host lost way temporarily with the bat. Both Hetmyer and Hope put in 49 runs for the fifth wicket.</p>

<p>For India, Arshdeep Singh was the most successful with three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets. There were wickets a piece for Axar Patel, Mukesh Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal.</p>

<p>Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has extended his advice to Shubman Gill after his string of failures in the ongoing series against the West Indies. With eight hundreds in 2023, Gill was in a rich vein of form going into the series against the Caribbean side but has seen his stock go down with poor performances. According to Jaffer, Gill needs to adapt to the new surfaces early if he is to achieve success away from home.</p>

<h2><strong>Jaffer’s advice to Gill</strong></h2>

<p>"These West Indies surfaces are like that, you have to wait for it and can't just keep hitting on the rise which Shubman likes. But one thing he needs to understand is he is not going to get conditions like Ahmedabad everywhere. So the better he gets used to the other surfaces, and adapts to the surfaces it's going to do him wonders," Jaffer said on ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>In his last six innings, Gill has been dismissed for under 10 runs on four occasions. His highest score on the tour is 85 runs he scored in the third ODI at Tarouba and has been far from convincing. Gill has scored 187 runs in nine innings during the West Indies tour and has been urged by a few fans to be dropped after the lean patch.</p>

<p>"Shubman is not somebody who goes from ball one. He is not that kind of a player so he takes his time at the start. He has a habit of reaching towards the ball when the ball is not coming on," Jaffer added.</p>

<h2><strong>Kishan underlines Gill’s importance</strong></h2>

<p>"He’s a tremendous player, I’ve seen how he middles the ball. Seeing him hitting it out of the middle gives me a lot of confidence as well. Always important to win at this level, and the learnings from these games are important. We were looking to get early wickets and didn't let any ball go. Everyone is looking very positive," Kishan said in a post-match interaction after helping India win the series.</p>

<p>Kishan also commented on the T20 World Cup and thinks it is a bridge too far and is not thinking about it. With senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma out of contention for the shortest format, Kishan is the front-runner to be in the first team and will be a key member for the Indian side when they return to the Caribbean Islands in 2024.</p>

<p>Gill's dismissal brought in the tea with India at 41/1 while chasing a record total of 444 runs if they were to win the match. Australia, having resumed the day from 123/4, added 147 runs more to their total for the loss of four more wickets and declared on 270/8.</p>

<p>Alex Carey top scored for Australia with 66 not out and Jadeja took three wickets for India in the second innings.</p>

<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined India and Australia for slow over rates during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final which concluded with Australia's victory on Sunday. India players have been fined 100 per cent of the match fees while Australia have been docked 80 per cent of the match fees in fine.</p>

<p>After the Test got over, the ICC reviewed the over rates and found India to be five overs short in the allotted time that included adjustment for breaks and extra time as well. Australia, on the other hand, were found four overs short.</p>

<p>According to the Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 per cent of the match fee for each over they failed to bowl within the allotted time.</p>

WTC Final: Shubman Gill tweets to show disappointment after being given out on day 4

<p>Australia all-rounder Cameron Green's catch to dismiss India batter Shubman Gill on day 4 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final has created a lot of furore. The catch, which Green thought was clean, was adjudged the same by TV umpire as well but Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma along with a lot of former players had a different opinion about it.</p>

<p>Speaking about the catch after the day's play, Green said, "I definitely though I caught it." Shubman, however, 'facepalmed' the decision as he tweeted a picture of Green in the motion while catching the ball which is seen touching the ground.</p>

WTC Final: ‘It was clean...:’ Cameron Green on catch to dismiss Shubman Gill on day 4

<p>India batter Shubman Gill has taken the world cricket by storm in last year or so and his latest exploits in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) where he won the Orange Cap for most runs got him many accolades from all quarters.</p>

<p>The fans went one up on all the appreciation Shubman got from the cricket world as they tagged him the successor of India's one of the modern great - Virat Kohli.</p>

<p>Kohli, who is in England for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, spoke about how he'd been guiding Gill and how the young batsman in keen to learn and grow.</p>

<p>"He (Gill) speaks to me a lot about the game, is very keen to learn and has an amazing skill set at his age," Kohli said. "He has got an amazing ability and a temperament to perform at the highest level and is confident and we do have that relationship and we do have that understanding based upon respect."</p>

<p>"These tags of king and prince and all of that kind of thing are great for the public and spectators to see, but I think the job of any senior player is to help improve the youngsters and give them the insight you have had throughout your career.</p>

<p>"As long as a guy is keen to learn like him he is going to be fine as he wants to learn how to do this for a long time at the highest level and perform consistently," he added.</p>

<p>Kohli also wished Gill success in the WTC Final as well where he's expected to open the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. "He is a lovely kid and he is playing amazingly well and I wish he continues the same in this Test match," said Kohli.</p>

<p>India skipper Rohit Sharma also praised the young batsman for the form he is in currently and said that he doesn't need any advice as of now.</p>

<p>"The way he is batting at the moment, I don't think he needs any advice. He is a batter who likes to bat and likes to spend a lot of time in the middle,” said Rohit.</p>
