Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy is said to have asked a police officer “How many stories like this do you have?” when he was arrested for rape. Mendy is currently accused of a total of eight counts of rape along with allegations of attempted rape and sexual assault by different women.

The Manchester City defender's career has gone downhill ever since he was arrested by the police from his Chesire mansion in November 2020 after being accused of raping a woman thrice in his 'locked' bedroom during a party. The incident happened in October 2022, however, the woman reported it to police a few weeks later in November the same year.

Mendy is currently facing a trial on a total of eight counts of rape and has denied all the charges. During a court hearing, police officer Luke Browczuk, who went to arrest the 28-year-old Manchester City star after allegations of rape were levelled against him, revealed he cautioned the French footballer before Mendy asked how many stories he had.

“I understand what you are doing, your job and stuff. How many stories like this do you have?" - Mendy told the officer. The officer's statement was read out in the Chester Crown Court by prosecutor Timothy Cray.

The woman, who alleged Mendy raped her thrice in his locked bedroom, presented evidence to the judges in the court last week. The woman claimed she was forced to have sex with the Man City footballer despite repeatedly telling him she didn't want to.

“Well the door’s locked anyway," Mendy allegedly told her while asking her to strip down. The woman further claimed that Mendy boasted about having sex with '10,000' women and called it a 'privilege'.

Mendy had signed for Manchester City from French club Monaco in a deal worth around 50 million pounds in 2017 to become the world's most expensive defender at the time. He currently stands suspended by City and is unlikely to play ever again for the reigning English champions.

Under Bruno Lage, Wolves have become a major threat for the big teams, often causing upsets. However, it is Lage's solid playing style that relies on defensive solidity that has brought critical acclaim.

Nunes is expected to play the crucial number eight role and his quality on the ball is expected to help the wolves dictate games from the midfield.

Apart from being good with the ball on his feet, Nunes is an excellent ball-carrier, something that the Wolves had been missing last season. His defensive capabilities are second to none and he could slot easily into the first playing XI.

For a long time, Nunes was expected to move to Merseyside. The plethora of injuries at Liverpool further added fuel to the rumours that Jurgen Klopp might finally authorise the signing of a midfielder, expected to strengthen a squad where a quality no. 8 has been missing.

However, after Liverpool didn't further their interest, Wolves swooped in and within a few days completed the deal.

Manchester United's misery to Kevin De Bruyne magic - Takeaways from Premier League Gameweek 2

Manchester United are now reportedly open to letting Cristiano Ronaldo leave this summer after having maintained for weeks that the Portuguese forward was not for sale. Despite Ronaldo having expressed his desire to leave the club, United's stance was that he was not for sale and would see out the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

However, as per a report in BBC, United could let the Portuguese star leave in the ongoing transfer window as his mood is affecting the morale of the rest of the squad. Ronaldo is said to be a 'negative presence at the club and he hardly communicates with his teammates in the canteen.

As per BBC, sources suggest that United might be willing to let him go even if they were not to find any replacement for him in the current transfer window as many at the club believe his departure will uplift the morale of the players. This comes after United suffered two humiliating defeats in their first two games of the season against Brighton and Brentford, respectively.

While Brighton beat United 2-1, Brentford handed the Red Devils a proper thrashing in a comprehensive 4-0 win at home. United looked clueless in the remainder of the first half after a mistake from David de Gea saw Brentford take the lead in the 10th minute before scoring three more inside the next 25 minutes to extend their lead to 4-0.

It was a dismal show from the United players, who clearly struggled against Brentford's energetic and intense high pressing. The back-to-back defeats in the Premier League have quickly wiped out any optimism United had regained after a good pre-season and the majority of the blame has been put on Ronaldo.

Earlier this summer, there were reports that Ronaldo had informed United of his desire to leave citing the lack of Champions League football and their inactivity in the transfer market. The Portuguese is still actively looking for a move away from the club as he wants to spend the final few years of his career fighting for major titles.

Ronaldo had rejoined United from Juventus last summer and went on to notch up 18 goals for the club in the Premier League. However, his heroics were not enough to help United finish in the top four as they ended up finishing a lowly sixth to miss out on a spot in the Champions League. While Ronaldo has expressed his desire to leave, no top club in Europe has shown any interest in buying the 37-year-old.

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is once again facing flak on social media after he was snubbed the away fans at the Gtech Community Stadium after the club's woeful 4-0 loss against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday (August 14). Ronaldo didn't acknowledge the away fans at the stadium after the game and stormed into the tunnel following the embarrassing loss.

It was yet another dismal performance from United as their horror run continued under new manager Erik Ten Hag, who has now lost his first two games in charge of the club in the Premier League. On Saturday, Brentford ran riot at home as the hosts scored 4 goals inside the first 35 minutes at Old Trafford to head into the second half with a stunning 4-0 cushion. Josh Dasilva opened the scoring in the 10th minute followed by goals from Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo as Brentford registered a comprehensive win against United.

Following the shocking defeat, a number of United players went on to acknowledge the fans at the away end, who kept chanting in support of the club despite their 4-0 defeat to Brentford. However, Portuguese star Ronaldo didn't approach the fans and was spotted leaving midway despite insistence from manager Ten Hag’s assistant Steve McClaren.

WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo refuses to acknowledge Manchester United's away fans after Brentford defeat

Manchester United's disastrous run continued under new manager Erik Ten Hag on Saturday as the Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Brentford in the Premier League. It was a forgetful outing for Harry Maguire & Co., who have now lost two games in a row so far this season and are currently reeling at the bottom of the Premier League table.

It was an awful start for United in the game as they found themselves trailing inside the first ten minutes after a terrible mistake from goalkeeper David De Gea saw Josh Dasilva put Brentford ahead 1-0. What followed was a shambolic first half for United at Gtech Community Stadium as Brentford smashed three more goals in the next 25 minutes to lead 4-0 at halftime.

United failed to break the deadlock even in the second half as they were handed a stark reality check by Brentford at home, leaving manager Ten Hag frustrated and fuming at the end of the final whistle. The Dutchman, who arrived at the club from Ajax earlier this summer, slammed his players for their poor show in the game and admitted he would have substituted the entire playing XI at halftime if he had the choice.

Ten Hag replaced Luke Shaw, Fred and Lisandro Martinez after a disastrous first half from United where they ended up conceding 4 goals against Brentford. The United boss also admitted Brentford were a hungrier team than United on the pitch and his players didn't follow his plans in the game.

"I subbed three but I could've changed them all," a disappointed Ten Hag said after United's defeat.

"We want to bring some fresh energy in the game, so not specific to the ones we sub because I don't think that's honest to them. I think we all have seen the game and I think Brentford was more hungry. We have to question that and we will do in the coming hours. You can have a good plan but we had to put the plan into the bin," he added.

Ten Hag was brutal in his assessment after United's humiliating loss and said his team have been 'naive' when asked about his tactics after the home team conceded the 2nd goal while trying to play from the back. The Dutchman said United's performance was not good enough and that they need to improve soon.

"I don't want to play from the back when it's not possible. It was naive how we played today. You have to play more direct.

"We attracted them, the space was high up the pitch, you have to do that option but that is what we didn't do. Former Manchester United wingback Gary Neville recently offered fans his take on their most recent outing in the Premier League, in which they suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss at the hands of Brentford. While discussing the same, Neville admitted that he had never seen the club put in a worse performance in the last 42 years, which happens to be the exact amount of time he's followed the club.

The Red Devils slumped to the bottom of the Premier League table after suffering their second consecutive setback in the league. United's catastrophic afternoon began with David De Gea letting Josh Dasilva's tame effort into the back of the net barely 10 minutes into the game.

Their deficit was doubled shortly thereafter when former Brentford star Christian Eriksen, who was booed by the home fans, lost the ball to Mathias Jensen due to a poor pass by De Gea, leading to a goal. Brentford slotted in two more goals that were a direct result of a poor defensive showing.

In an interaction with Sky Sports, Neville declared that the club had sunk lower than what was previously considered to be rock bottom, comparing the club's performance to that of the 'men U9' squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo recently outperformed his Manchester United teammates in a footrace in training. The fact that this comes shortly after he was left out of the lineup citing fitness issues makes this feat all the more impressive.

Even though Anthony Martial was nursing a minor injury ahead of their Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., Erik ten Hag decided to keep Ronaldo on the bench, stunting United's attacking options. Instead, he picked Christian Eriksen to lead the charge, who ultimately had to be deployed as a deep-lying midfielder in the second half.

The new boss Ten Hag justified his decision to leave Ronaldo out of the starting lineup due to issues with his fitness after the Dutchman found himself at the receiving end of a significant amount of flak. Although Ronaldo was brought on in the 53rd minute, he couldn't bolster their attack as the Red Devils suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Brighton.

However, fitness seems to be the last problem for the Portuguese star as he was seen leading the pack in a post that was shared by the team's official Twitter account.

Manchester United's woes to Erling Haaland magic - Top takeaways from first week of Premier League

New manager Erik ten Hag saw the depth of the crisis at Manchester United when his side fell to a 2-1 Premier League defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday, with German Pascal Gross scoring twice.

United fans` hopes that the off-season would mark a turning point have faded, with the club failing to make major moves yet in the transfer market and there was a grim familiarity to the club`s opening match.

The former Ajax coach witnessed a performance that was every bit as disjointed as those produced under his predecessors Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season.

The sense that this was a continuation of last year`s decline began before kick-off where there were yet more loud and angry protests against United`s owners, the American Glazer family, under the South Stand

If that felt familiar, then the sight of Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield as United laboured against Graham Potter`s superbly drilled side was verging on deja vu.

United had been shambolic in their 4-0 loss at Brighton in May and, even with debuts for defender Lisandro Martinez and midfielder Christian Eriksen, little felt new or changed about the performance.

Brighton took the lead on the half-hour with Leandro Trossard finding former United forward Danny Welbeck who squared the ball to the back post for Gross to slot home.

Nine minutes later, Gross doubled the lead, with his sixth career goal against United, after David De Gea had poorly pushed out a Solly March drive right into the path of the German who again made no mistake.

United went in at the break to the sound of booing from their own supporters -- once a rare occurrence but increasingly part of the experience at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag introduced Cristiano Ronaldo in the 53rd minute and the Portugal forward, who is reported to want to leave the club, provided the spark for United`s attempted comeback.

The home side gave themselves a foothold in the 68th minute when a goalmouth scramble ended with Alexis Mac Allister turning the ball into his own net but Brighton held on for a second straight win against United and their first ever at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag said he had no illusions of the scale of the task ahead of him.

"I was aware of it before, this game doesn`t change that. It is a hell of a job. We have to work really hard, analyse then move forward," he said.

"Of course definitely a setback and real disappointment. I knew from the start it would not be easy. We gave two easy balls away and it was not good in the organisation."

Brighton boss Graham Potter was full of praise for his team.

“It was a fantastic effort from the players and we deserved the win over the course of the game,” he said. “It’s a historic win for us so it’s something to be happy about.

“We had an idea about how to attack and then, when we could, we tried to press and put them under pressure. We were brave in what we did," he added.

However, Liverpool refused to capitulate and Salah put them level again, poking home from close range. Jordan Henderson almost grabbed all three points for the visitors with a stoppage-time strike but his shot came back off the crossbar.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scores twice as Fulham hold Liverpool to 2-2 draw in Premier League

The mystery regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United continues to get complicated ahead of the new EPL season. Ahead of Man United's Premier League opener, where they face Brighton on August 07 (Sunday), it is being reported that the new manager Erik Ten Hag is set to bench Ronaldo from the playing XI.

So far, Ronaldo missed the Red Devils' pre-season tour of Bangkok and Australia -- citing personal reasons -- and only made a 45-minute appearance against Rayo Vallecano. His early exit from the game has not impressed the new manager, who is set to snub the star striker from Man Utd's season-opener (as per a report in The Sun).

Ten Hag is reportedly keen to go ahead with the front three in the form of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Recently, in an interview with Dutch outlet Viaplay Sport Nederland, Erik opined on Ronaldo leaving the game before the final whistle. “You would expect someone who has played in the game to be in the changing rooms at the end to listen to the manager’s thoughts. Thus, Ronaldo's omission will certainly make heads turn especially at a time when the 37-year-old isn't too keen to continue at the club. If this happens, this might push him further towards an exit. Two years after the Premier League clubs had decided to express solidarity with the rest of the world in 'taking the knee' as a gesture of standing up against racism of all forms, they have decided not to continue with it in each match next season. The Premier League clubs have decided the anti-racism pre-match gesture will now be limited to only a handful of significant games next season.

Premier League players had started taking the knee in 2020 after the season had resumed post the delay caused by COVID-19. The initiative had begun in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a black man, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, US earlier that year. Floyd's death had sparked massive anti-racism protests across the US and around the globe.

However, the Premier League clubs and players have now decided to not take the knee before every game next season and limit the gesture to only a few matches, which are of more significance.

In a statement, captains of the Premier League clubs reaffirmed they remain committed in their fight against racism and discrimination. However, they will only take the knee in some special matches like the opening and the final game of the season, the Boxing Day fixtures and the finals of the league, FA Cup and the EFL Cup among others.

"We have decided to select significant moments to take the knee during the season to highlight our unity against all forms of racism and in so doing we continue to show solidarity for a common cause," Premier League captains said in a statement.

"We remain resolutely committed to eradicate racial prejudice, and to bring about an inclusive society with respect and equal opportunities for all," they added.

The Premier League clubs had also decided to wear the 'Black Lives Matter' logo on their shirts. It was later replaced by the 'No Room for Racism' message. As per Reuters, 119,000 pounds were raised from the royalties from the sleeve badges with 'No Room for Racism' message on club shirts sold last season which will be donated to youth clubs. The Premier League have decided to match that amount raising the total donation figure to 2,38,000 pounds.

Immediately after arriving at Anfield, Jota hit the straps and became a regular starter ahead of several established names. Speaking about the new contract, Jota said, “Well, I'm really proud, I have to say. Meanwhile, manager Jurgen Klopp stated that it was a 'good' news' that Jota had signed the contract. “What Diogo has brought to this team and this club since he arrived is there for all to see, so it is really good news that he has signed a new contract." said the German who also extended his contract earlier this year. “His qualities are obvious. He scores goals – not a bad quality – he works unbelievably hard for the team, his pressing and counter-pressing are on an unbelievable level, he can play in all of our attacking roles and he has an incredible attitude. Not bad at all." added Klopp. Read More: WATCH: Erling Haaland misses a sitter for Manchester City as Liverpool win Community Shield Having played 85 games for the Reds and scored 34 goals, the forward has displayed incredible versatility. Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United has become one of the biggest talking points in the ongoing summer transfer window. Ronaldo has reportedly already informed United about his desire to leave the club this summer amid concerns he won't be able to compete for major trophies with the Premier League giants. Ronaldo is also reportedly unhappy with United's lack of ambition in the transfer market. However, with a top club yet to show any interest in securing his services for next season, it remains to be seen where will Ronaldo end up playing next.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has once again denied the reports that Cristiano Ronaldo can leave the club this summer amid intense speculations over the Portuguese star's future. Ten Hag claimed Ronaldo can even stay at United beyond the expiration of his current contract which ends next year. Ronaldo has reportedly already made it clear that he wants to leave the club this summer.

As per reports, the Portuguese forward, who is regarded as one of the best players of all time, wants to spend the remaining few years of his illustrious career at a club competing in the Champions League and to add to his trophy cabinet. Ronaldo is also reportedly not happy with the quality of United's current squad and believes that are far from challenging for the Premier League title.

The 37-year-old had returned to United last summer from Serie A side Juventus and finished as the club's top-scorer in the Premier League with 18 goals despite United enduring a disappointing season as they finished sixth to miss out on Champions League football next season. Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford with his agent trying to secure a deal.

However, Ten Hag said he is well-informed on Ronaldo's situation at United and expects him to stay at the club this season. He also didn't rule out the possibility of Ronaldo extending his stay for another year at United after his current contract expires next year.

“I am well informed – he also has an option (to extend his contract for another year)," said Ten Hag at the press conference ahead of United's pre-season clash against Crystal Palace. “Yes," he said when asked if Ronaldo can stay beyond the 2022-23 season. "Of course, I have signed here for three years, but in football, it’s short-term as well. We have to win from the start. So I don’t look that far ahead," he added.

Many believe Ronaldo won't fit the style of football Ten Hag might want to play at United as he continues his rebuild project at the club. At 37, despite his goal-poaching abilities, Ronaldo is not the player he once was and might not be able to give his best in terms of pressing, sprinting and winning the ball back as a forward.

However, Ten Hag believes Ronaldo will fit his style of football considering he is a top player who has already proven himself in several top leagues in his career so far.

“Cristiano is capable of doing that. In his career, he has shown everything. We want to play in a certain way. A top player can contribute and Ronaldo is an absolute top player in our squad.," said Ten Hag.

Ronaldo has been linked with several top clubs across Europe like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG and Atletico Madrid among others. However, none of them have shown any concrete interest in the Portuguese star, who is not part of United's onging pre-season tour in Australia.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said Gabriel Jesus`s ability to create "chaos" is exactly what they need after the Brazilian continued his impressive pre-season form in a 2-0 win over Everton in Baltimore on Saturday.

Jesus opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after a corner found him unmarked at the far post, lashing his effort past Jordan Pickford and into the roof of the net, before playing a role in setting up Bukayo Saka for the second minutes later.
