Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence after being dropped from the club's next Premier League clash against Chelsea. United boss Erik Ten Hag has decided to drop Ronaldo from the squad to face Chelsea after the Portuguese forward's antics during United's match against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week.

Ronaldo had left the pitch before the final whistle during United's clash against Tottenham and had also reportedly left the stadium before the players reached the dressing room to celebrate their 2-0 win. Ronaldo was reportedly not happy as Ten Hag refused to bring him as a substitute during the game.

The 37-year-old, who had expressed his desire to leave United earlier this summer, was seen storming down the tunnel before the final whistle against Tottenham. He was widely criticised by fans and former players for his action in what has become a major talking point after United's fantastic win.

Reacting to the criticism, Ronaldo took to Instagram to break his silence for the first time after the incident and said he is the same professional that he was 20 years ago and wants to live and play respectfully. Ronaldo said he will keep supporting his teammates and continue working hard to be ready to contribute when called upon.

"As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision making process," Ronaldo said in a statement.

"I started very young, the older and most experienced players examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment get’s the best of us.

"Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again," he concluded.

Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence after being dropped from Manchester United's squad for Chelsea clash

Liverpool maintained their new-found momentum as Darwin Nunez scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League, but high-flying Tottenham Hotspur suffered a reality check with a 2-0 loss at Manchester United on Wednesday. Chelsea's run of four successive league wins came to an end as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Brentford. Impressive Newcastle United bolstered their place in the top-six with a 1-0 victory at home to struggling Everton.

Southampton eased some pressure on manager Ralph Hasenhuttl with a 1-0 win against south coast rivals Bournemouth to climb out of the relegation zone. Liverpool's 1-0 win over champions Manchester City at the weekend looked like lift-off for their stuttering season but they were made to work extra hard by West Ham. In the end they were thankful for summer signing Nunez's first Anfield goal for the club, a superb downward header in the 22nd minute from a cross by Kostas Tsimikas.

Nunez also rattled the post with a ferocious shot but West Ham could easily have taken a point. Jarrod Bowen's penalty was saved by Alisson just before halftime while Tomas Soucek and Said Benrahma both had great opportunities for the visitors late on. Liverpool moved up to seventh with 16 points from 10 games, two points behind Newcastle and three behind Manchester United.

"I don't stand here thinking it should be an easy game for us, but we got the result and I think we deserved the result," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, who was red-carded during the win over City, said. "Luck hasn't always been on our side but maybe today we had it, or Ali, however you want to look at it. "It is three points more, massive."

UNITED TAKING SHAPE

After a difficult start Man Utd are slowly taking shape under Dutch manager Erik ten Hag and they added Tottenham to their wins already against Liverpool and leaders Arsenal. But for a clutch of superb saves by keeper Hugo Lloris, United would have won by more as Tottenham squandered the chance to move into second place with a dismal display. United rained in 18 shots on the Spurs goal in the first half without scoring, but eventually went in front when Fred's side-footed shot deflected past Lloris in the 47th minute.

The Reds kept up the pressure and deservedly put the game to bed in the 69th minute when Bruno Fernandes powered a strike into the net after another excellent flowing move. Newcastle, who have lost only once all season and are beginning to look like contenders for a European place, edged out Everton with a goal by Miguel Almiron.

The Paraguay international curled a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner just past the half-hour mark to condemn Everton to a third consecutive defeat. Chelsea kept a fifth clean sheet in succession in all competitions but Graham Potter's side could find no way past Brentford who enjoyed the better of the chances in the west London derby. They remain fourth in the standings on 20 points, three behind Tottenham with a game in hand, but already starting to drift off the pace set at the top and facing what is already looking like a tense battle for a Champions League spot.

"They had some chances, we had some, we finished the game stronger, but it was a hard-earned point against a team who make it difficult for you," Potter, still unbeaten after replacing Thomas Tuchel in early September, said. Che Adams's first-half header earned Southampton victory at Bournemouth -- their first win in six games moving them up to 14th place with 11 points.

Darwin Nunez earns points for Liverpool vs West Ham, Man United outclass Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has been charged with improper conduct following his outburst at the assistant referee during his side's 1-0 Premier League win against Manchester City at the weekend, the Football Association (FA) said on Tuesday. Klopp was sent to the stands for confronting the official after Liverpool's Mohamed Salah was denied a free kick late in the second half at Anfield.

"Juergen Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following the Premier League game between Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC on Sunday [16/10/22]," the FA said in a statement. "It is alleged that the Liverpool FC manager's behaviour during the 86th minute of this game was improper, and he has until Friday [21/10/22] to provide a response."

PL: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp charged with improper conduct after outburst at referee vs Man City

Liverpool ignited their Premier League season as Mohamed Salah's late goal earned them a stormy 1-0 win over Manchester City to leave Arsenal four points clear at the top on Sunday.

Salah, fresh from his quickfire hat-trick in midweek against Rangers in the Champions League, latched onto a long clearance by goalkeeper Allison in the 76th minute and fired into the net to inflict a first defeat of the season on champions City.

City, who could have gone 16 points clear of their hosts with a win, had a Phil Foden goal disallowed, while Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was shown a red card for remonstrating with a linesman after a tackle on Salah.

Arsenal made it nine wins from their first 10 games with Bukayo Saka's goal earning them a 1-0 victory at Leeds United.

Mikel Arteta's side have 27 points from 10 games with City and Tottenham Hotspur on 23. Chelsea are in fourth spot with 19 points, with a game in hand, thanks to a 2-0 win at Aston Villa courtesy of a double by England midfielder Mason Mount.

Manchester United are fifth with 16 points from nine games after drawing 0-0 at home to sixth-placed Newcastle United, who have 15.

Despite Arsenal's flying start to the season the popular theory is that relentless City are primed to claim a fifth title in six seasons.

But on a rare off day for City's goal machine Erling Haaland, Liverpool produced a performance that suggests it is far too early to disregard Juergen Klopp's side, who have 13 points from nine games after a rocky start.

Clashes between the sides have produced some classics over the past few seasons and while Sunday's match had plenty of the usual quality, it was a blood and thunder affair that occasionally boiled over.

Guardiola was furious when Foden's goal, with the score at 0-0, was ruled out after referee Anthony Taylor checked a pitch-side monitor and decided there had been a foul by Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up.

Salah had been denied by a great save from Ederson but when he found himself one-on-one again he made no mistake. Alisson's quarterback-style clearance was missed by Joao Cancelo and the Egyptian forward ran through to dink a shot over City's keeper.

With tackles flying in Klopp was livid when Salah was not given a foul and he was sent from the technical area.

Klopp was calmer later, admitting that he had probably deserved a red card.

On the result, the German said: "Perfect. Performance, really, really good, in an incredibly intense game.

"We defended at an incredibly high level for 99 minutes almost. They had their moments but especially in the box we did extremely well. This was for us obviously big today. We showed up today and that is all we wanted to do."

The defeat was City's first in 23 away games in the Premier League and Guardiola was left bemused by the decision to disallow Foden's goal.

"The referee said play on, play on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one they gave because we scored a goal," Guardiola, who said coins were thrown at him, complained.

"We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield."

Arsenal's game earlier had suffered a lengthy delay after a power outage at Elland Road. But they returned after 38 minutes to take the points in a frantic game thanks to Saka's first-half goal from a tight angle following a through pass by Martin Odegaard.

Patrick Bamford missed a penalty for Leeds who suffered their first home loss of the season.

"Big momentum for us, we've won another game. We need to keep this going and today we showed we can win no matter what," Saka said.

Chelsea remain unbeaten in six games since Graham Potter became manager, winning the last five in succession in all competitions.

They were given a helping hand as Villa's Tyrone Mings made a terrible mistake to allow Mount to score in the sixth minute. Mount then sealed the points with a second-half free kick.

In Sunday's other match, Declan Rice's earned West Ham United a point with the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Southampton who remain in the relegation zone.

Premier League: Liverpool beat Manchester City 1-0, Arsenal go 4 points clear on top with win against Leeds

Erling Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm ever since his arrival at Manchester City earlier this summer. The Norweigan striker has been scoring goals for fun and has been shattering records at will for the reigning Premier League champions.

Haaland has already scored 20 goals in 14 appearances for the club across all competitions this season in what has been a sensational campaign for the Manchester City star. However, it could all have been very different for Haaland as the 22-year-old was allegedly close to joining Premier League club Leeds United a few years back.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has made a stunning claim regarding Haaland's transfer stating that the Norweigan striker had once told him he intended to join Leeds United in the Premier League and return to his city of birth.

Milner spoke with a young Haaland when the Norweigan was still at RB Salzburg. They met during Liverpool's Champions League meeting against Salzburg where Haaland told Milner about his plans of joining Leeds United in the future. The Liverpool midfielder said he was disappointed as Haaland lied to him about his future plans.

"I can confirm that he said he was going to sign for Leeds a few years ago when we played against him. He was obviously lying, so that’s disappointing," Milner told Viaplay.

Milner came up against Haaland on Sunday as Liverpool defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the Premier League. The English midfielder revealed he had a brief chat with Haaland about Leeds when the two met during the game. "We had a little chat, yeah," said Milner.

Haaland was born in Leeds as his father Alf Inge Haaland was playing for Leeds United at the time. Alf spent three years at Leeds before moving to Manchester City in 2000. Haaland followed his father's footsteps in joining City from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.

One of the best young strikers in the world at present, Haaland has since been a revelation for the reigning Premier League champions and has been on a goal-scoring spree across competitions.

Erling Haaland was going to sign for Leeds: Liverpool midfielder James Milner makes stunning claim

Graham Potter's impressive start as Chelsea manager continued as Mason Mount's double gave his side a 2-0 Premier League victory at struggling Aston Villa on Sunday.

Chelsea are unbeaten in six games since Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge and the win at Villa was their fifth in a row in all competitions.

They were given a helping hand by their hosts with Mount cashing in on a horribly misguided defensive header by Tyrone Mings in the sixth minute.

Villa responded well and created several good chances before the break but were frustrated by Chelsea's keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga who made a series of saves including a miraculous one to deny Danny Ings an equaliser.

Any hope of Villa salvaging something from the game disappeared in the 65th minute when Mount's dipping free kick deceived keeper Emiliano Martinez.

Victory left Chelsea in fourth place with 19 points from nine games, four behind London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa are 16th, one point above the relegation zone, with pressure mounting on manager Steven Gerrard who was taunted by Chelsea fans throughout the game.

With England manager Gareth Southgate sitting in the stands to run the rule over some of his England squad, the day could not have been more different for Mings and Mount.

Mings has lost his place in the England squad and hardly boosted his prospects of a recall for the Qatar World Cup when he gifted Mount Chelsea's opener.

Ben Chilwell's pass was deflected up in the air and Mings got his clearing header all wrong, glancing it backwards towards his own goal where Mount pounced to volley home.

Chelsea's goal led something of a charmed life after that with Arrizabalaga producing excellent saves to keep out efforts by John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey as Villa attacked with verve.

His best effort, however, was springing through the air to keep out an Ings header from point-blank range.

Raheem Sterling was denied by the woodwork as Chelsea looked dangerous going forward but rocky at the back.

Mings's afternoon got worse when he gave away the foul which gave Mount the chance to size up a free kick.

The England midfielder got plenty of movement on the ball but Martinez should have done more to keep it out.

Villa were subdued after that but while there were boos at the final whistle, Gerrard would have been encouraged by the way his team caused Chelsea problems.

Mason Mount bags a brace as Chelsea beat Aston Villa 2-0 to maintain winning streak in Premier League

Manchester United and an unusually goal-shy Cristiano Ronaldo were unable to find a way past Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday in a 0-0 draw that kept both teams in the top six.

Showing a passion and solidity sometimes lacking from their hosts, Eddie Howe's Newcastle had the best chance of the game with an extraordinary double header from Joelinton in the first half that came first off the crossbar then off the post.

Newcastle's Callum Wilson also had a penalty shout denied.

Feted before the game for reaching 700 club goals in his career, Ronaldo twice had the ball in the back of the net. But he was offside for the first, while the second was disallowed when he cheekily nicked the ball off Newcastle to stroke it home after claiming a free kick had been taken.

Ronaldo has only scored twice this season for Manchester United, with some pundits already declaring the twilight of his brilliant career. The result left Manchester United fifth on 16 points, with Newcastle sixth on 15 points with one more game played.

Antony was again Manchester United's brightest spark, with one close-range shot stopped by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope's shins. Despite seeing plenty of the ball, however, he was unable to wriggle past Newcastle's dogged defence or find the perfect cross for his fellow strikers.

Marcus Rashford, on as a substitute for Ronaldo, set up Fred with a late chance but the midfielder pulled his shot just wide. Rashford then missed a header in the final minute as Manchester United pressed for what would have been an undeserved winner.

Roared on non-stop by their travelling army, Newcastle had the best of the first half, frequently finding promising positions after sloppy passing by their opponents.

But without injured striker Alexander Isak, the visitors failed to apply the finishing touch their efforts deserved.

In the second half, Newcastle were forced more onto the backfoot, but in truth had little trouble holding out against the hosts.

Erik ten Hag's subdued strike force will again come under a harsh spotlight after an unimpressive mid-week Europa League performance when they missed countless chances and left it late for a 1-0 win over Omonia Nicosia.

A lot of action and drama is taking place in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) 2022-23 edition. Ahead of the much-awaited Chelsea-Manchester United clash, set to be held on October 22, a controversy has emerged, off the field, with the Old Trafford club's fans not pleased at all.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust have threatened legal proceedings against Hammersmith and Fulham Council after a cut to the ticket allocation for Erik Ten Hag-led club's visit to Chelsea, to be held later this month.

Manchester United Supporters' Trust lawyers have, thus, taken matters into their own hands and recently sent a letter to Hammersmith and Fulham Council in a bid to place a request to issue a new safety certificate to allow fans to attend the high-voltage clash, at the Stamford Bridge stadium in Fulham.

"United fans, and football supporters in general, have had their fill of being on the receiving end of unfair and irrational decisions by councils and the police who seem to consider us to be a public order problem rather than ordinary people freely enjoying a day out,” the fan group -- addressed as MUST -- revealed on Thursday (October 13).

"Tickets had been sold for this game and fans are being treated like second-class citizens. Our first priority in policing football — and the increasing crime and disorder associated with it — is the safety of fans and those who live and work in the local community,” police stated. “This can require significant resources and we have to balance this commitment against our many other policing responsibilities across London.

"For this reason, the agreement in place between the Met and London clubs is that fixtures assessed as high risk should start before 16:45 at weekends to help keep people safe.” United had written to their ardent supporters last week.

"While we are very disappointed by this outcome and believe it is unjustified, it is clear it is a final decision. Over recent years, we have made significant progress in protecting away ticket allocations for our fans and we can assure you that we will continue to fight for this in future," the club further informed.

In the legal letter to the council, the fans have argued saying "there is no rational reason to reduce the ticket allocation for away fans at a 5:30 p.m. kick-off when it is accepted that there would be a full ticket allocation at a fixture beginning no later than 4:45 p.m."

Talking about the EPL standings, Chelsea are placed a spot above Man United. After eight games, they have five wins and two losses -- with 16 points -- whereas the Cristiano Ronaldo-starrer club occupies the fifth position with five wins and three defeats to have 15 points.

Over recent years, we have made significant progress in protecting away ticket allocations for our fans and we can assure you that we will continue to fight for this in future," the club further informed. In the legal letter to the council, the fans have argued saying "there is no rational reason to reduce the ticket allocation for away fans at a 5:30 p.m. kick-off when it is accepted that there would be a full ticket allocation at a fixture beginning no later than 4:45 p.m." Talking about the EPL standings, Chelsea are placed a spot above Man United. After eight games, they have five wins and two losses -- with 16 points -- whereas the Cristiano Ronaldo-starrer club occupies the fifth position with five wins and three defeats to have 15 points.

On Sunday (October 09), Manchester United locked horns with Everton in an away Premier League clash for the Erik Ten Hag-led Red Devils. Despite conceding a lead, with Alex Iwobi scoring in the fifth minute, United came from behind to register a 2-1 win, courtesy of strikes from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo, who has not been in the starting XI more often than not in the ongoing EPL season, replaced Anthony Martial midway in the first half and netted the decisive second goal; 700th strike of his illustrious career.

After adding another feather to his illustrious hat, Ronaldo shared a heartfelt note on his official Twitter account. Here's what he wrote:

"700 club goals. What a beautiful number we’ve achieved together! Thank you to all my teammates, coaches, clubs, family & friends and of course my fans. United we continue!," wrote Ronaldo after completing the massive feat.

The survey which was conducted through well-being workshops at the clubs throughout last season found out several players were against getting vaccinated for COVID-19 and felt pressured into getting jabbed. 189 out of the 843 players who were surveyed also opened up about facing severe anxiety and admitted they feared something bad might happen.

The data found in the survey was released by PFA on World Mental Health Day on October 10 and brought forward the dark side of professional football. It showcases how athletes who appear tough from the outside undergo severe stress mentally and face multiple challenges throughout their careers

Dr Michael Bennett, the director of the player wellbeing at the PFA, said the organisation is trying to get more feedback from players and learn what kind of bullying experiences they endured during their careers. Bennett said the players could have been at the receiving end of bullying from their own teammates, club staff or the management in some cases.

"These are stark figures that illustrate how serious these issues are in the game. Based on this feedback, we have adapted the sessions this season to learn more about the type of bullying players face," said Bennett.

"It could be peer-on-peer bullying, for example, from teammates in the dressing room or training ground. It could be by club staff or management. We are particularly concerned around transfer windows.

"We know that players can be isolated from their squads when a club is trying to force a move. We are often dealing with cases like this. Ultimately, whether it is the training ground or the stadium on a match day, it’s a player’s workplace. They have a right to feel protected and safe at work," he explained.

Erling Haaland scored for the 10th game in a row in all club competitions as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 win at home to Southampton on Saturday to move to the top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker had endured a difficult afternoon by his usual prolific standards but eventually got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to grab City's fourth goal after first-half strikes from Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden plus a volley after the interval from Riyad Mahrez.

The victory took City to the top of the standings on 23 points from nine matches although Arsenal, on 21, can reclaim the lead if they beat Liverpool at home on Sunday.

Southampton, meanwhile, were left 16th on seven points after falling to their fourth consecutive league defeat, piling more pressure on manager Ralph Hasenhuettl.

Haaland went into the game in ruthless form after hitting a hat-trick in last week's 6-3 drubbing of Manchester United and scoring a double in the 5-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.

However, luck evaded him when he narrowly failed to open the scoring in the first half, smashing a shot off the inside of the far post and watching the ball trickle out of the goal.

Haaland later scuffed a shot wide and mistimed a header in the second half, but he was not to be denied, firing a first-time shot into the net after a cut-back from Cancelo to score his 15th league goal of the season and his 20th overall.

Portugal full back Cancelo was City's most active player in the early stages of the game and after seeing several of his crosses come to nothing he took matters into his own hands, rifling a low shot into the net to give the champions the lead in the 20th minute.

Foden doubled their advantage later in the first half with a delightful chip, the England midfielder scoring for the fourth time in two league games after, like Haaland, netting three times in the derby win over United.

Mahrez volleyed in a chipped pass from Rodri to get the third goal early in the second half as City continued to toy with Southampton.

Haaland was in danger of drawing a blank for the first time for City since the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Aug. 15 but kept his remarkable goal streak going and is now four games away from equalling Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy's record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, dating back to 2015.

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney urged Cristiano Ronaldo to remain patient and make the most of the opportunities that come his way as the Portugal international looks to work his way back into the Premier League club's first team.

Ronaldo, in his second spell at United, has started only one league game this season and was linked with a move away during the summer transfer window, though manager Erik ten Hag said he still featured in his plans for the season.

Rooney, who played with Ronaldo at United between 2004-2009, said the 37-year-old will be finding his lack of game time hard to swallow.

"The manager's obviously gone a different way in terms of how they're playing and been successful," Rooney, who now manages Major League Soccer side DC United, told reporters on Friday.

Wayne Rooney urges out-of-favour Cristiano Ronaldo to stay patient at Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has had a disastrous start to the ongoing season with Manchester United. The Portuguese forward has started only one Premier League game for the club and has so far managed only one goal across all competitions this season. He was cut a frustrated figure on the bench as United were handed a 6-3 thrashing at the hands of arch-rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

Ronaldo had made his intentions clear about wanting to leave United earlier this summer as he wanted to move to a club competing in the Champions League. However, no top club showed any concrete interest in acquiring the 37-year-old, who is no more the first-choice striker for United.

Ronaldo was on the bench against Manchester City but remained an unused substitute as manager Erik Ten Hag later admitted he didn't want to subject the Portuguese to the humiliating defeat considering his 'big career'. Reports have now claimed Ronaldo can leave United in January if a suitable offer arrives for him.

Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Juventus last year and went on to score 24 goals across all competitions to finish as the club's top scorer. However, it was a disappointing season for United as they finished outside the top four in the Premier League to miss out on Champions League football and went trophyless for another year.

Cristiano Ronaldo can leave Manchester United in January after woeful start to the season - Report

Manchester United suffered a humiliating 6-3 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Manchester City in the first Manchester Derby in the Premier League on Sunday. United were completely demolished by Pep Guardiola's side as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden bagged a hat-trick apiece to extend their unbeaten streak in the Premier League this season.

It was a nightmarish start for United as Foden opened the scoring for City in the 8th minute before Haaland scored twice inside four minutes to make it 3-0. Foden piled more misery on their city rivals with another goal in the 44th minute to ensure the reigning Premier League champions had the game in their bag by halftime.

In the second half, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag went on to make a number of chances as the likes of Fred, Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all came on from the bench. However, Cristiano Ronaldo remained an unused substitute on the bench for United despite them going 4-0 down at the end of the first half.

When asked about his decision to not bring Ronaldo as a substitute in the second half, Ten Hag said it was 'out of respect' for the Portuguese forward's big career. Ten Hag admitted he didn't want Ronaldo to be subjected to humiliation at the hands of City.

"I wouldn't bring him in out of respect for Cristiano, for his big career," Ten Hag said after the game.

"The other thing was the advantage that I could bring on Anthony Martial. He needs the minutes, but I don't want to point it out like that," he added.

Ronaldo, who wanted to leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window earlier this year, had to remain at the club as no top team came in for him. He has had a sluggish start to the season and has managed only one start for United in the Premier League so far this season.

United did manage to score three goals in the second half but it wasn't enough as City scored two more to make 6-3. Ten Hag said his side lacked belief in the game and the performance was unacceptable. The Man Utd manager insisted he couldn't think of any positives to take from the game.

"It's quite simple, it's a lack of belief. When you don't believe on the pitch, then you can't win games; that is unacceptable. We get undisciplined at following rules and you get hammered, that's happened today," said Ten Hag.

"All the credit to City, but it's nothing to do with City, our performance was not good. It had to do with the belief as individuals and as a team.

"From the first minute I felt it, and at half-time, we changed things and we changed attitude. In this moment I can't think about positives. We let our fans down, we let ourselves down and we're hugely disappointed," he added.

'Out of respect': Erik Ten Hag's shocking admission on why he didn't play Cristiano Ronaldo against Man City

Arsenal ensured they will end the weekend on top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby on Saturday but Liverpool's problems continued as they drew 3-3 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Graham Potter marked his first Premier League game in charge of Chelsea with a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace thanks to a late winner by Conor Gallagher.

Newcastle United thumped 10-man Fulham 4-1 at Craven Cottage to snap a run of draws while Everton enjoyed their first away win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Southampton.

Gianluca Scamacca scored his first Premier League goal to help West Ham United on their way to a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers to move them out of the bottom three and leave Wolves in it.

Bournemouth drew 0-0 at home to Brentford.

Arsenal's seventh win in eight matches this season left them on 21 points, four ahead of champions Manchester City who host Manchester United on Sunday.

It was a well-deserved triumph for Mikel Arteta's side although they were helped by Tottenham self-destructing after the break when full back Emerson Royal was red-carded.

Thomas Partey's superb curled effort gave Arsenal an early lead but Harry Kane's penalty levelled it up before the break.

Kane became the first player to score 100 away goals in the Premier League and now has a record 44 goals in London derbies, one ahead of Arsenal great Thierry Henry.

Those feats will mean little to Kane though as his side's unbeaten start to the season came to a disappointing end.

Shortly after halftime, Gabriel Jesus scored from close range after a howler by Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris and Tottenham's Royal was then sent off for a daft foul on Gabriel Martinelli who was deep inside his own half.

"The red card killed the game," Tottenham manager Antonio Conte said. "Not because we had 10 men, but because the team we had was really offensive and in that four or five minutes it took to make the substitutions the team was really offensive, it was difficult to defend and we conceded the (third) goal."

Granit Xhaka sealed the points for Arsenal.

Liverpool dropped more points as Brighton made light of the departure of Potter to mark the start of the Roberto de Zerbi reign with a point from a thriller.

Leandro Trossard scored a hat-trick for Brighton, the first two to put his side 2-0 ahead inside 20 minutes and then late on to salvage a point after a powerful Liverpool fightback.

Roberto Firmino's brace levelled it up for the hosts and when Adam Webster turned into his own goal it seemed Liverpool would take the points, only for Trossard to strike again.

Brighton remained in fourth spot with 14 points while Liverpool are ninth on 10.

Potter's Chelsea were heading for a draw at Selhurst Park after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first goal for the club cancelled out Odsonne Edouard's early opener for Palace.

Gallagher, who spent last season on loan at Palace, curled in a superb winner in the 90th minute, his first Chelsea goal.

Draw specialists Newcastle made the most of an early red card for Fulham's Nathaniel Chalobah to claim their second win of the season after five stalemates in their last six games.

Chalobah was sent off in the eighth minute for a dangerous challenge on Sean Longstaff that was originally deemed a yellow card but upgraded after a VAR review.

Fit-again Callum Wilson bundled Newcastle ahead three minutes later and Miguel Almiron made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute with a sumptuous left-foot volley.

Sean Longstaff made it 3-0 before Almiron slotted home his second goal from Joe Willock's precise pass.

Bobby De Cordova Reid scored a late consolation for Fulham.

Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil scored in quick succession in the second half as Everton came from behind to win at Southampton who had taken the lead through Joe Aribo.

Arsenal beat Spurs to stay top, Liverpool held by Brighton

Erik ten Hag praised Erling Haaland's goalscoring instincts but stressed that Manchester United will not focus solely on the Norwegian striker when they take on Manchester City in a Premier League derby clash.

Later on Sunday, United will have the formidable task of containing Haaland, who has made a blistering start to his City career with 11 league goals in seven games since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the close season.

When asked if he had discussed Haaland with the striker's former Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho, who now plays for United, Ten Hag told reporters, "of course when you have a player who played in the past with a player, you ask him."

"I also think it is our job in advance to analyse as a team and if individual players have huge contribution to the result, we have to do our job and that is what I am doing with my staff and players because they can give us more details," Ten Hag added.

"I like Haaland's attitude. How he is on the pitch. He is direct, his life is about goals and he is direct to the goal of the opponent.

Premier League clubs have agreed to give pitch-invading fans a minimum one-year ban from their team's home and away matches. Supporters who are found guilty of entering the pitch without permission or using smoke bombs and other pyrotechnics will receive the automatic 12-month suspension.

The bans could also be extended to accompanying parents or guardians of children who take part in such activities. In response to a rash of dangerous pitch invasions in the Premier League and lower leagues last season, England's top-flight clubs met in London on Wednesday in a bid to find a solution to the growing problem.

English Premier League club Chelsea sacked their commerical director Damian Willoughby less than a month after his appointment after a female football finance agent alleged he sent her "inappropriate messages" and sexually harassed her last year.

Willoughby, who had enjoyed stints at Manchester City and gaming company Electronic Arts, was appointed as Chelsea's commercial director earlier this month after Todd Boehly took over at Stamford Bridge. However, his contract was terminated immediately after an investigation was completed into the allegations against him.

As per The Telegraph, the female football agent launched a complaint against Willoughby to Chelsea's president of business Tom Glick, who had hired him as the commerical director of the club. The female agent also submitted evidence in the form of messages sent to her by Willoughby. In one of the messages, Willoughby asked the agent to be naked and promised her he will arrange a meeting for her with Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano if she was willing to be 'naughty' for one night.

"When you come to London will you be naughty?" - Willoughby allegedly asked the agent in one of his messages while introducing City chief executive Soriano.

"No," the agent replied following which Willoughby said - "happy to connect you, if you promise to be naughty one night."

Chelsea released a statement to confirm Willoughby's sacking and said despite the fact that the messages have been sent prior to his arrival at the club, the commercial director's behaviour was in contrast to the kind of workplace environment and corporate culture the club are trying to build under the new ownership.

“Chelsea Football Club confirms that it has terminated Commercial Director Damian Willoughby’s employment with immediate effect. Evidence of inappropriate messages sent by Mr Willoughby, prior to his appointment at Chelsea FC earlier this month, has recently been provided to and investigated by the Club," read a statement from Chelsea.

Chelsea sack director Damian Willoughby for 'inappropriate messages' sent to female agent

Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League with a dominant 3-0 win at Brentford, while Everton beat West Ham 1-0 to get their first victory of the season on Sunday.

Injuries to captain Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko had stretched Arsenal's squad to the extent that 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench late to become the youngest player in Premier League history.

However, the Gunners showed no sign of weakness at a ground where they were beaten 2-0 last season to move back one point above Manchester City and Tottenham at the top of the table.

William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus headed in before half-time and Fabio Vieira marked his first Premier League start with a stunning strike after the break. Brentford boss Thomas Frank said he believes Arsenal will be title contenders and they played like it to blow away the Bees in the first 45 minutes.

"We have a different mentality this season," said Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka. "We are training like we play and have class with the players that can make a difference."

The match had been moved forward two hours to help ease police pressures around Queen Elizabeth II's funeral and Britain's longest-serving monarch was remembered in a minute's silence before kick-off.

Once the action did get underway, it was one way traffic as Arsenal bounced back in style from their sole defeat of the season away to Manchester United two weeks ago.
It took just 17 minutes for Mikel Arteta's men to make the breakthrough when Saliba flicked Bukayo Saka's corner in off the far post.

Jesus also used his head to score his fourth goal in seven Premier League games since joining from Manchester City as he powered home an enticing delivery from Xhaka.

The absence of Odegaard also made room for Vieira and the Portuguese midfielder made his mark with a sumptuous strike from outside the box to kill off any doubt over the outcome four minutes into the second half.

An easy day for Arsenal was rounded off a minute from time when Arteta was able to hand Nwaneri his debut as just 15 years and 181 days, breaking Harvey Elliott's record as the youngest player in Premier League history when he appeared for Fulham as a 16-year-old.

"It was a pure gut feeling," said Arteta on handing Nwaneri a debut.

"Yesterday he had to come because we have injuries, especially the injury of Martin and then I had that feeling from yesterday that if the opportunity could come that I was going to do it."

At the other end of the table, West Ham will spend the upcoming international break in the bottom three after Neal Maupay's first Everton goal gave the Toffees a much-needed win. Frank Lampard's men are now unbeaten in five league games but had just four points on the board before kick-off from four consecutive draws.

An injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin forced Everton to seek more firepower in the final weeks of the transfer window and Maupay delivered on just his second appearance since a move from Brighton. The Frenchman spun onto Alex Iwobi's pass and fired in from the edge of the area to lift Everton up to 13th in the table.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp recently offered his candid take on Chelsea FC's babyfaced co-owner Todd Boehly's plans of potentially setting up an All-Star game in the Premier League inspired by a system of matches that are conducted in the United States-based leagues.

Todd Boehly, who is also the co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, recently took up part-ownership of the renowned London-based Chelsea FC. After a brief stint as the club's frontman, Boehly has suggested the Premier League to take a page out of the notebook of American Sports and participate in All-Star games, which is the norm in the NBA and the MLB.

Klopp, however, is not too impressed by the idea, admitting that matters function much differently in football compared to the way it does in NBA or MLB. He offered fans some insight into the same while in conversation with the media in the aftermath of Liverpool's recent 2-1 Champions League victory against Ajax.

"When he finds a date for that, he can call me. He forgets that in the big sports in America, these players have four-month breaks. It is completely different in football. What can I say? Does he want to bring the Harlem Globetrotters as well and let them play against a football team? I am surprised by the question so please don't judge my answer too much. But maybe he can explain it to me at some point and find a proper date.

The Premier League, in it's longstanding history, has never experimented with anything like an All-Star game. Whether Todd Boehly could be the one to spearhead the charge to kickstart this practice is something that remains to be seen.

"Not sure people want to see that. Imagine that: [Manchester] United players, Liverpool players, Everton players altogether in one team. It is not a national team. North against south. That means north east [too], Newcastle... interesting game. And all the London guys together, Arsenal, Tottenham, great. Did he really say it? Interesting." Whether Todd Boehly could be the one to spearhead the charge to kickstart this practice is something that remains to be seen.

Three Premier League games scheduled for this weekend have been postponed ahead of Queen Elizabeth's funeral next Monday, including Chelsea's home game against Liverpool on Sunday, the Premier League has announced.

Manchester United's home game versus Leeds United on Sunday has also been postponed while Brighton & Hove Albion's match against Crystal Palace on Saturday remains postponed, the league said.

The Brighton game was originally postponed due to planned industrial action on the rail network, which has been called off following the queen's death.

English soccer's ruling body had already postponed all of last weekend's fixtures as a mark of respect.

"Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen's funeral," the Premier League said in a statement.

"Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.

"For the matches being played during the period of National Mourning, tributes will be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums."

Manchester United said their match was postponed because the Greater Manchester Police are "supporting forces across the United Kingdom at locations and events of high significance" after the queen's death.

New dates for the rearranged fixtures will be announced in due course, the league added.

FA, EFL matches resume

Earlier, England's Football Association (FA) and the English Football League (EFL) said matches will resume as scheduled from Tuesday after the last round of fixtures were postponed following the queen's death last week.

"After a period of pause and reflection for our national game, we can confirm that fixtures will resume as scheduled," the FA said on Monday.

That includes matches from the Women's Super League and women's Championship, FA Cup second round qualifying, women's FA Cup, the lower tiers of the English football pyramid as well as all matches across grassroots football.

However, FA Trophy and FA Youth Cup matches will return later on Monday. The FA also said that all scheduled matches will be postponed next Monday, the day of the queen's funeral.

English Football League says matches to return from Tuesday after postponement due to Queen's demise

After a loss to Dinamo Zagreb, Thomas Tuchel was sacked as the Chelsea manager with immediate effect. His sacking came as a shocker to many and the German has now finally reacted to his exit. Being replaced by Graham Potter, the 49-year-old has revealed that the recent turn of events has definitely left him devastated but shared some of his high points serving as Chelsea's manager.

"This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write, and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end," Tuchel wrote on Twitter on Sunday (September 11). "This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever," he added.

Tuchel further asserted, "I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart," said Tuchel.

Under Tuchel, Chelsea won the Champions League title in 2021 after joining The Blues early in the same year, in January. Thus, his impact was felt immediately, however, the club's poor start to new campaign turned things upside down for Tuchel. A defeat at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb on September 6, by a 1-0 margin, led to his ouster. He has been replaced by Graham Potter.

Before joining The Blues, Potter also looked back at his time Brighton's manager and penned a heartfelt note for the club fans. He wrote, ”For some I recognise that the change that comes so suddenly in football can be hard to accept. I may not be able to persuade you all to forgive my departure but I would at least like to take the chance to say thank you. I hope that you will understand that at this stage of my career, I felt I had to grasp a new opportunity,” wrote the former Brighton manager in a heartfelt letter.

"I did not know at the time that it would be the end, but looking back now we played so well. There was so much positivity around the club. The last few days have been an unexpected whirlwind. Leaving the training ground for the last time was a poignant moment. To my successor, whoever that may be, I would say, congratulations. You'll be working for a great club with a fantastic squad, supported by a great chairman and board,” wrote Potter.

Will Potter occupy the top post at Chelsea for a long period? Only time will tell...
