Cristiano Ronaldo's future with Manchester United hangs in the balance. When Ronaldo rejoined the Red Devils, after his first stint with the premier club from 2003-09, the ardent Man United fans erupted in joy. Ronaldo also had a good season with the team in 2021/22, returning with&nbsp;24 goals across all competitions -- the highest goal-scorer for United -- but the team's lacklustre run in the last EPL season resulted in them finishing sixth and missing out on Champions League football for 2022/23.

Thus, Ronaldo's future with the United remains a mystery for one and all ahead of the commencement of the EPL 2022/23 season. While the 37-year-old had earlier stated that he is eager to stay and take United to more glory, things have changed in recent times with the Portuguese captain reportedly not happy at the club and&nbsp;handed in a transfer request. Since then, reports have been flowing in that a lot of clubs -- including Man United's arch-rival Chelsea -- have been&nbsp;in talks with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes.

Nonetheless,&nbsp;according to a report by The Athletic, Chelsea is not going to make a bid for Ronaldo from Man United. The two-time Champions League winners were considered to be one of the leading clubs discussing a potential move with Ronaldo's agent -- following new co-owner Todd Boehly's&nbsp;talks with Mendes -- however, it seems Chelsea isn't interested in signing Ronaldo. After Romelu Lukaku's departure, they have roped in&nbsp;Raheem Stirling, hence, the Portuguese striker isn't a priority for them with an already star-studded attacking line-up at their disposal, comprising&nbsp;Kai Haverts, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Callum-Hudson Odoi.

Recently, a Saudi club made a mouth-watering offer to acquire&nbsp;Ronaldo's services --&nbsp;with a transfer fee of £30 million and a whopping salary of £105 million every year. As per reports, the 37-year-old superstar footballer has turned down the offer, hence, there remains no clarity over Ronaldo's future. Will he remain at Man United or find a make a switch?

The picture will surely get much clear in the coming few weeks.

A lot is being said and written about Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Manchester United in this Premier League. Thus, with Ronaldo almost certain to shift base from the Red Devils, many are also pinning their hopes on Lionel Messi to exit Paris Saint-Germain and possibly make an entry into the Premier League.&nbsp;

While a lot of Messi's ardent fans are eager to see him in the Premier League, former Manchester City defender&nbsp;Danny Mills doesn't think that such a move is practical in the current scenario. In this regard, he said on talkSport, "Would you take Lionel Messi? He's the greatest footballer I've ever seen, I didn't see [Johan] Cruyff live or [Diego] Maradona. Messi is the best footballer that I've ever seen. I know Ronaldo's numbers are a little better and he's more of a big-game player."

"In terms of being a footballer, Messi is the greatest, but would you take Messi in your team now? Probably not. "I don't think they [the Premier League's top six] would take him. Liverpool? No. Man City? No. Tottenham? No. I don't think they would," he added.

Last year when Messi had become a free agent, many reports had suggested that he had shown interest to join the Man City club, however, he eventuallyb went to PSG. In his maiden season for the French club, the 35-year-old only managed to score 11 goals in what was an under-par run for the Argentinan captain. Recent reports have claimed that PSG is keen on revamping their squad around superstar Kylian Mbappe and the club can release Neymar and Messi. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this.

Thus, Messi would hope to turn the tides and return to his usual best in his second season for PSG, if he remains a part of the club.

Premier League footballer faces two more rape allegations after being arrested on suspicion of rape

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has taken a dig at arch-rivals Liverpool after the club extended Mohammed Salah's contract, offering him a new three-year contract with a staggering pay rise. Salah will become the highest-paid player in Liverpool's history after penning a new three-year deal with a salary of reportedly more than £350,000 per week.

The 30-year-old has been one of Liverpool's best players since joining the club from Italian Club AS Roma in 2017. He has been scoring goals consistently and is already among the all-time top-scorers for Liverpool. Salah was in talks with Liverpool for several months as his contract was nearing its end.

However, the Egyptian was demanding a huge pay rise which made it difficult for Liverpool to decide on extending his contract. Salah was reportedly holidaying in Mykonos amid the ongoing break and the Liverpool executives flew to the island in Greece to negotiate the contract extension with the star forward. Liverpool eventually had to bow down to Salah's demands despite their strict wage structure and fears that his new contract might propel other top players in the team to demand similar wages.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their squad and bounce back next season under new manager Erik Ten Hag after enduring a disappointing campaign in the Premier League last season. It was an abysmal campaign for United as they finished sixth and failed to win a single trophy. They are out of the Champions League next season and Ten Hag has a huge job at his hands in fixing the issues at the club.

Ten Hag, who was roped in from Ajax, comes with a brilliant record in the Dutch league Eredivisie
with his former side but will face his biggest test yet in the Premier League. Ten Hag has already eyed some key signings to kick-start his rebuild project at United with former Ajax and current Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong on top of his list.

Ten Hag is focused on strengthening United's midfield which is an area of concern before moving on to other positions. While the incomings will provide him a significant boost ahead of the season, Ten Hag will also have to sort out the United dressing room which was reportedly split last season amid the club's disappointing run.

There were reports last season of a power struggle between Ronaldo and Maguire in the United dressing room during interim manager Ralf Rangnick's tenure. However, England centre-back Maguire had rubbished the reports stating that all was well between the duo.

The report further claims that Rangnick was barely on speaking terms with Manchester United's&nbsp;football director John Murtough, who was the person responsible for hiring him. Rangnick's comments exposing United's lack of ambition on and off the pitch didn't go down well with Murtough, who believes such remarks could have been avoided to safeguard the club's reputation.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Norway striker Erling Haaland from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract, the Premier League champions said on Monday. City did not provide financial details of the deal but German media reported that the total cost of buying Haaland could exceed 300 million euros ($314.22 million), including his salary, agent fees and bonuses. Chelsea said on Saturday that a final agreement had been struck to sell the Premier League club to a consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and backed by Clearlake Capital.
The takeover is expected to be completed on Monday.

The consortium, which won the bid to acquire the London side earlier this month, received approval from the Premier League and the British government this week for the sale to go ahead.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm that a final and definitive agreement was entered into last night to sell the Club to the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium," the club said in a statement.

"It is expected that the transaction will be completed on Monday. The club will update further at that time."

Russian owner Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale in early March following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation".

The sale also needed the green light from the Portugal government after Abramovich became a citizen of the country last year and is under European Union sanctions.

Chelsea had been operating under a special license issued by the British government since Abramovich`s assets were frozen in March, and it was set to expire on May 31.

The club previously confirmed Abramovich would donate all proceeds from the sale, which would be placed in a frozen bank account, to charitable causes.

"I am proud that as a result of our joint successes, millions of people will now benefit from the new charitable foundation which is being established," Abramovich said in a statement published on Chelsea`s website.

Abramovich bought the club in 2003 and helped Chelsea become a dominant force in English football, leading them to five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League trophies during his reign.

"My goal has been to ensure that the next owner has a mindset that will enable success," Abramovich added. "I am pleased this search has now come to a successful conclusion.

"As I hand over Chelsea to its new custodians, I would like to wish them the best of success, both on and off the pitch.

"It has been an honour of a lifetime to be a part of this club. I would like to thank all the club`s past and current players, staff, and of course fans for these incredible years."

The completion of the sale will allow Chelsea to renew transfer activity as well as permit players to sign new contracts, which was prohibited as part of the sanctions imposed.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm that a final and definitive agreement was entered into last night to sell the Club to the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium," the club said in a statement. "It is expected that the transaction will be completed on Monday. The club will update further at that time." Russian owner Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale in early March following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation". Also read | Carlo Ancelotti hoping Real Madrid's best will be enough to beat Liverpool Abramovich bought the club in 2003 and helped Chelsea become a dominant force in English football, leading them to five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League trophies during his reign. I would like to thank all the club`s past and current players, staff, and of course fans for these incredible years." The completion of the sale will allow Chelsea to renew transfer activity as well as permit players to sign new contracts, which was prohibited as part of the sanctions imposed.

Chelsea reach final agreement for sale of club to Boehly-led consortium

The Boehly-Clearlake consortium, which agreed terms to acquire Chelsea for 4.25 billion pounds ($5.33 billion) earlier this month, passed the Premier League Owners` and Directors` Test, the league said on Tuesday, paving the way for the club`s takeover.

The proposal also needs approval from the British government before the consortium can complete the acquisition, with a week remaining before the club`s current operating licence expires on May 31. "The Board has applied the Premier League`s Owners` and Directors` Test (OADT) to all prospective Directors, and undertaken the necessary due diligence," the league said in a statement.

"The members of the consortium purchasing the club are affiliates of the Clearlake Capital Group, L.P., Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter." "Chelsea FC will now work with the relevant governments to secure the necessary licences to complete the takeover."

The British government is set to approve the sale after Chelsea`s Russian owner Roman Abramovich gave assurances he will not benefit from the deal, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters.
Currently subject to sanctions by the British government, Abramovich put the London club up for sale in early March following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation".
Abramovich dismissed reports that he wanted a loan given to the club, reportedly worth 1.5 billion pounds ($1.88 billion), to be repaid.

Chelsea previously confirmed all proceeds from the sale, which would be placed in a frozen UK bank account, will be donated to charitable causes by Abramovich. Groups led by Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca and former British Airways chairman Martin Broughton were earlier eliminated from the bidding process while a consortium led by Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family pulled out of the running.

Premier League gives green signal to proposed takeover of Chelsea by Todd Boehly-led consortium

BBC News issued an on-air apology to Manchester United fans on Tuesday (May 24) after a message ran on their news ticker calling the club 'rubbish'. United, who are one of the most successful clubs in English football, endured a disappointing campaign in the recently-concluded 2021-22 season as they failed to finish inside the top four in the Premier League. The pictures of BBC's gaffe during a live show soon went viral on social media inviting angry reactions from some United fans.

The incident happened during a live broadcast on Tuesday when the message 'Manchester United are rubbish' flashed up for a few seconds in the ticker. The ticker is a strip at the bottom of the screen which has current headlines running on it. BBC was quick to realise their mistake and issued an apology to those offended.

BBC presenter Annita McVeigh, who was presenting during the gaffe, read out an apology and revealed the message popped due to the mistake of a trainee, who was trying to learn how to use the ticker. McVeigh further said that the message was not supposed to appear on the screen.

“Just while we are on the subject of football, a little earlier some of you may have noticed something pretty unusual on the ticker that runs along the bottom of the screen with news. Making a comment about Manchester United and I hope Manchester United fans weren’t offended by it," said McVeigh as she apologised for the gaffe.

“Let me just explain what was happening. Behind the scenes, someone was training to learn how to use the ticker and to put text on the ticker so they were just writing random things. That comment appeared, so apologies if you saw that and we offended and you’re a fan of Manchester United. But certainly, that was a mistake and it wasn’t meant to appear on the screen," she added.

The British government has issued a licence that permits the sale of Chelsea to a consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and backed by Clearlake Capital, sports minister Nadine Dorries said on Wednesday. Current owner Roman Abramovich is subject to sanctions by the British government. He put the London club up for sale in early March following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation".

"We are satisfied the proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or other sanctioned individuals," Dorries said on Twitter.

"Given the sanctions we placed on those linked to Putin and the bloody invasion of Ukraine, the long-term future of the club can only be secured under a new owner."

Liverpool boss Juergen Klopp says no pressure in quadruple chase

Everton secured their Premier League status as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored five minutes from time to snatch a thrilling 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace after they rallied from two goals down at a rocking Goodison Park on Thursday. Everton needed a win to ensure they continued their 68-year top-flight stay and Calvert-Lewin, who has been a peripheral figure this season due to injury, headed a Demarai Grey free-kick in at the Gwladys Street end to spark a pitch invasion.

Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew, who could have had a red card moments earlier, scored first-half goals for mid-table Palace but Everton responded after the break with goals from Michael Keane and Richarlison before Calvert-Lewin’s winner. Everton move to 39 points from 37 games, four clear of relegation rivals Burnley and Leeds United, which ensures they go into Sunday’s final game of the season at Champions League-chasing Arsenal with the pressure on them since January now off.

"It was unbelievably special," Calvert-Lewin told Sky Sports. "The amount of pressure that we were under, going two goals down and then to get to 2-2, I just felt that another chance would come. "I just had to make sure I was in the right area. It was an incredible experience.

"It’s why we love the game, it’s why the fans love the game. You don’t want to be in the position we were, but then it produces moments like this. "You can go from low to high so quickly. It is the biggest weight in the world that has been lifted!"

SET-PIECE WOES

Palace went ahead after 21 minutes when Eberechi Eze’s free-kick was met by Matete with a simple headed finish as Everton`s set-piece woes were on show again. Ayew was fortunate not to receive a red card after a crunching tackle on Anthony Gordan only drew yellow, and then minutes later scored the second goal for the visitors.

It was a setback of Everton’s own making as captain Seamus Coleman lost the ball on the halfway line.
As Palace broke into the box, a mix-up between Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and defender Vitali Mykolenko allowed Wilfred Zaha to fire at goal, the ball ricocheting into the net off Ayew after 36 minutes.
Everton started the second half much brighter and pulled a goal back through Keane. They kept pressing after that and drew level through Richarlison.
The home fans roared Everton forward in search of a vital third and Calvert-Lewin, a player who has drawn some criticism for his perceived poor performances in recent weeks, came up with their magic moment to send Goodison Park wild.

"The way the fans have been supporting us has been unbelievable," Calvert-Lewin added. "I think they`ve made the difference for us. "Some fans have questioned my commitment to the club, but I always give 100% and I hope my goal showed that."

"I just had to make sure I was in the right area. It was an incredible experience. "It’s why we love the game, it’s why the fans love the game. You don’t want to be in the position we were, but then it produces moments like this. "You can go from low to high so quickly. It is the biggest weight in the world that has been lifted!" ALSO READ | Qatar 2022: In a first, women referees to officiate at men's FIFA World Cup SET-PIECE WOES Palace went ahead after 21 minutes when Eberechi Eze’s free-kick was met by Matete with a simple headed finish as Everton`s set-piece woes were on show again.

Liverpool proved why they are known as 'mentality monsters' after thrashing Southampton 2-1 despite playing with a second-string playing XI. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made as many as nine changes in the playing XI against Southampton from their FA Cup final against Chelsea last week.

It was a crucial game for Liverpool as they are still pretty much alive in the Premier League title race. It was a must-win situation for Klopp's Reds after Manchester City dropped points in their frustrating 2-2 draw at West Ham, allowing Liverpool to close the gap on top of the table.

Klopp fielded a second-string XI with a number of players, who had not enjoyed regular football this season. Southampton took the lead through a goal from Nathan Redmond in the 13th minute and it looked like Klopp's decision to field a second-string side might have backfired. However, Liverpool came from behind to win the game 2-1 and bag all three points.

Post the game, Klopp was asked about the decision to make a staggering nine changes in the team and the Liverpool boss responded by giving credit to his players. He also compared them to Ferraris stating that they all delivered when called upon despite having not featured regularly.

"After making nine changes, if it didn't work out it was my responsibility, now it worked out it's the boys' responsibility. I thought they did exceptionally well," Klopp said after Liverpool's win.

"I'm so happy about the performance. It was a bit touching. It's like having Ferraris in the garage," he added.

After Liverpool went behind in the 13th minute, Takumi Minamino equalised for them in the 27th minute before a towering header from Joel Matip secured a thumping 2-1 win for the Reds, who were without the likes of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk among others.

"That Takumi doesn't play more often, that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is in outstanding shape and is not part of the squad very often, Harvey (Elliott) didn't play for a long time, Curtis (Jones) didn't play for a long time and all these boys deliver, it's unbelievable," Klopp said lauding his players.

<h2>Liverpool keep Premier League title race alive</h2>

With their 2-1 win over Southampton, Liverpool closed the gap on City at the top and are now only one point behind the league leaders with one game in hand. Manchester City have 90 points to their name and will play Aston Villa in their final game of the season while Liverpool will take on Wolves in their last encounter.

Liverpool have taken the Premier League title race down the wire with their convincing victory but their fate lies in the hands of Manchester City. If City drop points against Villa, Liverpool can go on to win the Premier League 2021-22 title with a win against Wolves in their last game. However, the chances of City dropping points are slim.

Klopp said it is tough for his players to digest the fact that they might fall short by just one point and end up losing the title to City but they have produced an exceptional fight till the end.

"It is really tough for the boys, but whatever happens this year happens because of this group. It is exceptional and tonight they showed it again," said Klopp.

Despite scoring four goals, de Bruyne reckoned that it actually should've been five. If you miss you miss, it doesn’t matter, you make mistakes in the game and you go again. It should have been five, to be honest,” he added.
