Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik thinks that current Pakistan captain Babar Azam should quit captaincy and focus just as a player. Malik made the statement while speaking to Pakistan's media network Geo TV.

"If I was in Babar’s place, or those people who guide him, they should tell him that Babar should quit captaincy. And focus just as a player. Pakistan team will also benefit from this,” Malik told to Geo Sports.

Malik, during his chat, also lamented the cricket culture in Pakistan which wants overnight results. He, however, picked Babar to break all kind of batting record if he focused on being a player only.

“I feel for him to improve as a leader, it will take a lot of time. But we are in such a culture, where we want overnight results. Whoever is guiding him, please guide him to quit captaincy. He will break all sorts of records and the pressure will be only on his own cricket,” said the former Pak skipper.

While Babar has been one of the most prolific batsmen of Pakistan, his leadership has been questioned at times. Malik, commenting on batting and leadership, said that people are mixing two things and judging him harshly.

“I will say one thing. We are mixing his individual batting performance and leadership. We shouldn’t do that. Both are separate. But when we judge him when team loses, and his performances are also dragged. We shouldn’t do that. It’s a team game. In the past, one player could win the match but game has changed now. It needs team work,” Malik added.

Notably, Babar leads Pakistan in all three formats, that is, Tests, ODIs and T20Is. As skipper, Babar has scored 5,281 runs across all formats in 109 matches at an average of 49.35. Babar has also won 63 matches out of 109 and has lost 35 with one being ties and four producing no results while leading the side.

Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik wants Babar Azam to quit captaincy | Know Why

All-rounder James Neesham held his nerve in the final over to give New Zealand a dramatic four-run win over Pakistan in the third T20 international in Lahore on Monday despite Iftikhar Ahmed's brilliant innings.

Ahmed brought Pakistan back into the contest from 88-7 with a whirlwind 24-ball 60 as they attempted to chase down New Zealand's 163-5.

Needing 15 to win from Neesham's final over, he hit a six and a four to reduce the target to five off the last three deliveries.

But Neesham had Ahmed caught at long-on by Daryl Mitchell and then after a dot ball dismissed last man Haris Rauf in the same manner.

"It was a great game and it's satisfying to get across the line and keep the series alive," said visiting captain Tom Latham.

"I think the whole squad will take a lot of confidence from this match moving forward.

"The three early Pakistan wickets in the powerplay set us up and we pride ourselves on our fielding and keep the bar high every time we set foot into the middle."

Ahmed led the fightback with Faheem Ashraf as the pair added 61 for the eighth wicket, with Ashraf holing out after a 14-ball 27 studded with two sixes and as many fours.

Ahmed smashed six sixes and three fours.

The victory means New Zealand trail the five-match series 2-1 after Pakistan won the first two games, by 88 and 38 runs, also in Lahore.

The last two matches are in Rawalpindi on April 20 and 24.

Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals with prolific opening pair Babar Azam (one) and Mohammad Rizwan (six) both gone by the fourth over with the score on just 17.

Azam was caught at third man off pacer Adam Milne while Rizwan was found short of his crease after trying to take a sharp single.

Pakistan were further jolted by left-arm spinner Rachin Ravindra who dismissed Fakhar Zaman (17) and Imad Wasim for three while Saim Ayub fell to Neesham for 10.

Ish Sodhi dismissed Shaheen Shah Afridi for six and Milne accounted for Shadab Khan for 16, leaving Pakistan reeling.

The hosts battled back thanks to Ahmed, but were bowled out from the final ball on 159.

"We didn't bat well enough tonight," said Pakistan skipper Azam. "We kept losing wickets at crucial stages, because of which the pressure kept building throughout the run chase, but our bowling has been superb this series."

Earlier, New Zealand's innings was anchored by Latham's 64 after winning the toss.

Latham, who hit seven fours and two sixes, added 65 for the third wicket with Mitchell who scored a 26-ball 33.

Mark Chapman made 16 not out off nine balls as New Zealand managed to score 51 in the last five overs.

Shaheen -- playing his 50th T20I -- took 2-33 while his fellow pacer Rauf finished with 2-31.

NZ vs PAK: Kiwis win 3rd T20I after Iftikhar scare, host lead series 2-1

A lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023. While Pakistan are the originals host for the showpiece event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced last year that Team India won't travel to their neighbouring country (due to both nations' strained political relation). Since then, a lot of speculations have been raised with regard to where the continental tournament will be held, which is set to take place in September ahead of this year's ODI World Cup in India.

Firstly, it was said that the tournament will move to UAE with Pakistan to remain as the hosts. Last year, Sri Lanka remained the host but the competition was held in the UAE. However, multiple reports suggested that a hybrid model will be followed for Asia Cup, with India to play their encounters elsewhere. Now, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has shared his firm stance on Asia Cup hosting rights.&nbsp;

"We have made it very clear that unless the Asia Cup is held on a hybrid model like we have proposed, that is India playing its matches at an offshore venue and Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home, we will not accept any other schedule and neither play," he said as quoted by India Today.

"We will not lose our hosting rights. Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this," Sethi said.

It will be interesting to see where the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup gets held as the tournament is just a few months away from commencement.&nbsp;

'Pakistan will not accept any...': PCB chief Najam Sethi's FIRM STANCE on Asia Cup 2023 hosting rights

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have lit up the atmosphere in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition. After losing an intensly-fought season-opener to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), on March 31, the four-time champions Yellow Army locked horns with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai -- their first game at the Chepauk after 1,426 days (following IPL 2019).

The crowd at the Chepauk gave a rousing reception to the Dhoni-led CSK brigade in their memorable homecoming after 2019. Asked to bat first, Chennai rode on Ruturaj Gaikwad's 57, Devon Conway's 47, Shivam Dube's 16-ball 27, Moeen Ali's 13-ball 19, Ambati Rayudu's 14-ball 27* and Dhoni's 3-ball 12 to post 217 for 7. While CSK bowlers were erratic, they managed to defend the total as Lucknow were restricted for 205 for 7. Thus, it was a memorable return to Chepauk for CSK.&nbsp;

Dhoni gave plenty to cheer for the fans as well. The crowd waited patiently for him to come out to bat. There was a sigh of relief for many when Ravindra Jadeja got out in the final over with five balls to spare. Dhoni played only three deliveries but blasted two back-to-back sixes and returned with 12 (3). Even in the opening game, CSK skipper made 14* off seven balls, striking at 200.&nbsp;

After the clash, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Latif hailed Dhoni. Latif was asked to share his views on the '41-year-old youngster' by Nauman Niaz. To this, the former cricketer said on the Youtube channel Caught Behind, "He has scored 5000 runs in IPL alone. Dhoni has always had a golden template. His history has been written with gold - for India, for world cricket. You and I can say whatever we like but it won't make a difference. He is easily the greatest ever Indian captain, and also a wicketkeeper batter. There is no doubt there."

"Look at the way he batted. He faced just 2-3 balls and showed what he has always been capable of. He is the most famous player. We have seen Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, even Virat Kohli. But Dhoni, and the way he conducts himself on the field and the following that he has, there is a different vibe and intensity to it altogether. Outstanding," added Latif.

CSK are at the sixth position in the points table with one win and a loss. They will next face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 08 (Saturday).

'We've seen SRT, Gavaskar, Kohli, but Dhoni is...': Ex-Pak captain hails CSK skipper for his IPL 2023 heroics

A second-stringed Pakistan line-up locked horns with Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series recently, where the Shadab Khan-led Men in Green lost 2-1. After the series, a lot of questions were raised on the Pakistan team management for experimenting with the team as they went in with some inexperienced players and rested the likes of regular captain Babar Azam, Md Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi. Among the inexperienced bunch, a lot of eyes were on former Pakistan keeper-batter Moin Khan's son Azam. Azam Khan failed to get going and now ex-player Aaquib Javed has severely criticised him.

Azam had a good run in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition, where he scored 238 runs at 161.90, but fell flat in the Afghanistan series and returned with 0 and 1 before being dropped for the third game, which Pakistan won by 66 runs. After his flop show, questions were raised on his selection -- with a spectator trolling him for his fitness and eating habits during the second T20I -- and now Javed has made a big remark.

"I am not sure what sort of experiment this was. It's clear to me that no consideration was taken when selecting the squad for this series about what standard of skills and fitness levels are needed to represent Pakistan.

"If I was a player in that squad, I would have refused to play with this team. First, at least attain some levels of fitness before playing. Hopefully, they will have learned from this," Javed was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan lost the series opener by six wickets and fought hard but went down in the following game as well, by seven wickets, before playing for pride in the final encounter and winning it by 66 runs in Sharjah. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Azam, who didn't impress both as a batter and&nbsp;wicketkeeper, will aim for a solid comeback in his next series for the national side.

'If I was in squad, I would've refused to play' - Ex-Pak player severely criticises Azam Khan's fitness level

Afghanistan beat a second-stringed Pakistan by seven wickets in the second and penultimate T20I on Sunday (March 26). Opting to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah, Shadab Khan-led Men in Green only managed 130/6 before&nbsp;Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran's cautious knocks and finishing cameos from Najibullah Zadran and Md Nabi took Afghan line-up home with a ball to spare.

During the game, former cricketers-turned-commentator Simon Doull and Aamer Sohail got involved in a fiery exchange on live tv. The discussion was on Babar Azam, Pakistan's regular captain and best batter across formats. The New Zealander, who has criticised Babar's strike rate in the recent past, suggested that Pakistan skipper should not open the innings in T20Is but Sohail interrupted him and the video of the duo's exchange has gone viral in no time.&nbsp;

Doull:&nbsp;Babar Azam is hands down the best No 3 batsman in the world. He should not open for Pakistan. Saim and Haris should open with Rizwan in T20Is.

Sohail:&nbsp;The T20 teams are selected on the basis of averages and not strike rates. The averages are more important than strike rates. I dont care about the strike rate, I look for the average. If you talk about best players in T20I like Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers, what is the strike-rate between 135 and 137?

Doull:&nbsp;158

Sohail:&nbsp;Whose?

Doull:&nbsp;Chris Gayle. AB De Villiers is 145

Sohail:&nbsp;137 in international cricket.

Doull:&nbsp;What's Babar's?

To this, Sohail didn't give a clear answer. It is to be noted that AB de Villiers' T20I strike rate is 135.16 in 78 T20I matches. However, the former South African captain boasts&nbsp;a strike rate of a whopping 150.13 in his T20 career;&nbsp; with over 300 games (340). Meanwhile, Chris Gayle had a strike rate of 137.50 in 79 T20Is for West Indies. The Universe Boss, however, struck at 144.75 in 455 T20 innings.&nbsp;

On the other hand, Babar's T20I strike rate is 127.80 in 94 T20I innings and it goes up by a whisker&nbsp;to&nbsp;128.46 in 246 T20 innings.

He should not open for Pakistan. Saim and Haris should open with Rizwan in T20Is. Sohail: The T20 teams are selected on the basis of averages and not strike rates. The averages are more important than strike rates. I dont care about the strike rate, I look for the average. If you talk about best players in T20I like Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers, what is the strike-rate between 135 and 137? Doull: 158 Sohail: Whose? Doull: Chris Gayle. AB De Villiers is 145 Sohail: 137 in international cricket. Doull: What's Babar's? To this, Sohail didn't give a clear answer. It is to be noted that AB de Villiers' T20I strike rate is 135.16 in 78 T20I matches. However, the former South African captain boasts a strike rate of a whopping 150.13 in his T20 career; with over 300 games (340). Meanwhile, Chris Gayle had a strike rate of 137.50 in 79 T20Is for West Indies. The Universe Boss, however, struck at 144.75 in 455 T20 innings. On the other hand, Babar's T20I strike rate is 127.80 in 94 T20I innings and it goes up by a whisker to 128.46 in 246 T20 innings.

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2013. Ever since the political relations between both countries hit an all-time low, the two heavyweights only square off during multi-nation or ICC events. The Asia Cup 2023 edition is just six months away but there is no host for the continental event ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the forthcoming edition. Since then, it is understood that the tournament will once again be held at a neutral venue. However, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has lashed out at BCCI's stance.

'Why is India worried about security?'

In a press conference, Najam Sethi said, "I have kept my options open because when all teams are coming to Pakistan and have no issues with security. Then why is India worried about security? In the same way, we can also have security concerns over sending our team to India for the World Cup and I will be bringing this to the table at the coming meetings."

"Obviously we don’t support this stance (by India) because we want to hold the Asia Cup and remember it is not just about the Asia Cup and World Cup it is also about the Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan."

The last time Pakistan travelled to India for a bilateral series was in 2013 whereas their last visit overall was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, India have not visited their Asian neighbours since 2008. It remains to be seen who will host the Asia Cup as India remain adamant about not travelling to Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if their neighbours do not turn up for the continental tournament in September 2023.

Babar Azam is among the top-five batters across formats in ICC rankings. He won the ICC Player of the Year award last month. While he continues to make rapid strides as a batter, questions have been raised on his captaincy in the recent past.&nbsp;

In the recent past, Pakistan have lost home Tests versus Australia, England and somehow managed a drawn series versus New Zealand. They also lost T20Is to the Aussies and Moeen Ali-led England in their own backyard last year, failed to win the Asia Cup 2022 final and 2022 T20 World Cup summit clash under Babar. Even in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition, Babar's Peshawar Zalmi are at the fourth spot, with three wins and equal number of losses from six games.

Thus, many former cricketers and experts of the game have raised fingers on Babar's captaincy. Nonetheless, he continues to enjoy full support of his teammates. After Md Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Shan Masood, Haris Rauf has now joined the bandwagon and praised Babar's leadership skills.

“I strongly believe that the improvement in my performance is all because of Babar Azam. We played really good and exciting cricket in the last two years. In this period, we emerged as a good unit, especially in white-ball cricket, and the credit goes to our skipper Babar Azam, who trusted the abilities of players, which ultimately gave us the confidence,” Rauf told&nbsp;Dawn.

Rauf was part of Pakistan's Asia Cup and T20 WC campaigns. He has represented the Asian giants in one Tests, 18 ODIs and 57 T20Is. He is currently part of the Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2023.

Earlier, Masood also made a big claim in support of Babar. While speaking with a local TV channel, as reported by Cricket Pakistan, the left-handed batter said, "Hum sab Babar Azam ke behind hai. Jis tarike se koi bhi aapka captain hota hai, jab Saifi bhai thai, tb bhi hum jaan dene ko taiyaar thai, ab jab Babar Azam hai, tb bhi hum jaan dene ko taiyaar hai. Leader first. Aur hum sabka common goal Pakistan hai."

Bahut saari hum khabre padhte hai, cheeje dekhte hai jo team ko idhar se udhar karne ki koshish karti hai, lekin personally, kisi ko kisi k saath koi vo nahi hai. 'We are ready to give our lives for Babar Azam': Pak batter comes in support of under-fire national captain

Former Pakistan players often remain in the headlines for their staggering claims or severe criticism of the national side. Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar is also one of them who never shies away from expressing his views on various aspects of the gentlemen's game and once again made heads turn by criticising the current crop of players, especially captain Babar Azam, for their poor communication skills. Further, he went on to express his desire to become the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman to serve Pakistan cricket.

In an interaction with Suno News, Akhtar said, "I want to become PCB chairman and produce superstars for Pakistan. I want to produce 50 superstars for my country, then increase the count to 100, 200 and eventually 2000. I owe a lot to Pakistan cricket, and it’s my wish to serve Pakistan. He further asserted, "The reason I want to become PCB Chairman is I owe a debt of gratitude to Pakistan cricket as I am a beneficary of this system &amp; country. I want to start by creating 12 superstars, then 50 more, then another 200 to 2000 kids who are also superstars as backups."

'Want to become PCB chairman and...': Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar wishes to take up top post

Safaraz Ahmed saw a huge downfall in his international career post the 2019 ODI World Cup, in England and Wales. After Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals, they were whitewashed by a second-stringed Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series at home later in the year; resulting in his sacking as the captain. Soon, he was left out of the squad across formats. He made a solid return to the Test line-up in late 2022 during New Zealand's two-match series versus hosts Pakistan. He ended with 86, 53, 78, 118 to return as the Player-of-the-Series.&nbsp;

At present, Sarfaraz is involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, where he is leading the Quetta Gladiators. Recently, the wicketkeeper-batter made an appearance on a TV show in Pakistan. During the show, the host asked him to choose who is the better captain between Babar Azam,&nbsp;Azhar Ali&nbsp;and him. To this, the right-hander shared an epic response. Here's what he said:

"Sarfaraz Ahmed," while later adding, "Kisi ko naaraz karne se behtar hai ki apna he naam le lo (It’s better to take your own name rather than making anybody else angry)." Here's the video:

Under Sarfaraz, the Quetta Gladiators aren't in a good position in PSL 2023. After four games, they find themselves at the bottom with only a solitary win. The keeper-batter has had scores of 2, 5, 39 and 16*. His side will now lock horns with Islamabad United on February 24 (Friday) at the National Stadium, Karachi.&nbsp;

Speaking about captaincy, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar recently made a big claim. In a recent interaction, Akhtar revealed that he was offered Pakistan captaincy in 2002 but passed on the opportunity.&nbsp;

"I wasn't fit enough," Akhtar told Suno News HD. "I could play three matches out of five. I was offered captaincy in 2002, but then I would've played only 1.5–2 years (if I played all matches)," said Akhtar. "I supported my teammates, but the board was very unstable. There was mismanagement all over the board. Pakistan itself had faced mismanagement at that time," he added.

After four games, they find themselves at the bottom with only a solitary win. The keeper-batter has had scores of 2, 5, 39 and 16*. His side will now lock horns with Islamabad United on February 24 (Friday) at the National Stadium, Karachi. Speaking about captaincy, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar recently made a big claim. In a recent interaction, Akhtar revealed that he was offered Pakistan captaincy in 2002 but passed on the opportunity.

Shoaib Akhtar had a stellar run in international cricket. The pacer ended with as many as 444 scalps in a career than spanned for 14 years. He enjoyed a fierce rivalry with some big batters of his time, such as Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid, Gary Kirsten, etc., and gave many other batters sleepless nights with his raw pace and bounce. Akhtar's career was, however, marred with several controversies and injury concerns.

Since his retirement, the 47-year-old Akhtar remains active on social media platforms and never shies away from expressing his views on various aspects of the gentlemen's game. Recently, during an interaction, the former Pakistan speedster made a big claim, revealing that he was offered the national side's captaincy and declined. Here's what he said:

'I was offered captaincy but...': Shoaib Akhtar reveals why he said NO to leading Pakistan in 2002

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar doesn't shy away from expressing his views on various aspects of the modern-day game. Akhtar has often made the headlines with his sensational claims or criticism of the Pakistan cricket team. Recently, the 47-year-old ex-speedster lashed out at the current crop of Pakistan players and targetted skipper Babar Azam whom he feels isn't a big brand yet in the country for his poor communication skills.

In an interview with a local Pakistani channel, Akhtar pointed out the poor communication skills of Pakistani players, including Babar, and mentioned, "Abhi aap dekh le, koi character nahi team mein. Naa koi baat karne ka tarika. (You can see there's no character in the team, nor they know how to talk). How awkward it looks when they come to the presentation. Kitna mushkil hai English seekhna aur baat krna? (How difficult is it to learn and speak English?). Cricket is one job, and handling media is another. If you can’t speak, I am sorry, but you won’t be able to express yourself on TV."

This isn't the first time that Babar has faced criticism for his&nbsp;communication skills. Even in 2020, he addressed the issue during a press conference by saying that he is working on improving his communication skills. Back then, he stated, "I’m a cricketer; my job is to play cricket. Babar Azam hasn't become Pakistan's biggest brand as he can’t speak English: Shoaib Akhtar

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition got underway, in Pakistan, on February 13 (Monday). All eyes are many marquee players in the tournament who will look to put up a solid show whereas many discarded cricketers will hope for a memorable run to make a comeback into their respective national sides. Among the discarded players, Umar Akmal will hope for a smooth run in PSL 2023, where he is representing the Quetta Gladiators.&nbsp;

Ahead of the Gladiators' opening clash, where they face Md Rizwan-starrer Multan Sultans, Umar lashed out at a reporter when he was asked about his fitness and knack of uploading videos on Tik Tok. To this, Umar snapped at the journalist and said, "It is my personal life and it is in front of everyone. It would be better if you refrain from asking such questions."

Further, Umar&nbsp;also asserted that nothing is wrong with his fitness, claiming to be&nbsp;“superfit”. “Fitness is in front of you. I am not the only one. If you ask other players about it, they will also answer it in the same way,” he said. “I have worked very hard on my fitness and I am feeling super fit,” the swashbuckling right-hander added. This isn't the first instance where questions have been raised over Akmal's fitness. It was recently raised by former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi. The ex-cricketer felt&nbsp;Umar was lucky to be picked by the Gladiators despite his string of poor performances.

"Umar Akmal should thank Quetta Gladiators because other franchises were not interested in picking him in PSL. Umar Akmal has problem of fitness since quite a long. PSL 2023: 'Would be better if....': Umar Akmal slams reporter when asked about his fitness - WATCH

India dominated proceedings in the first Test versus Australia, in Nagpur, to go 1-0 up in the ongoing edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Losing the toss, India rode on comeback man Ravindra Jadeja's 5 for 47 to rattle the Pat Cummins-led Aussies for 177 and piled up 400 courtesy of skipper Rohit Sharma's 120, Jadeja's 70 and Axar Patel's 84 before dismissing the visitors for 91 in their second essay to win by an innings and 132 runs. Jadeja accounted for two more wickets in Australia's second innings and, thus, returned as the Player-of-The-Match.&nbsp;

After India's thumping win, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has lavished huge praise on Jadeja and feels 'world cricket hasn't seen an all-rounder like him'. Speaking on his Youtube channel, he said, "World cricket hasn't seen an all-rounder like Ravindra Jadeja. He dominates every department, be it batting, bowling or fielding. He is one such player that the captain will want to have in the playing XI every single time. He constantly creates pressure on the opposition."

"He didn't play cricket for around six months, but still kept himself in good shape and worked on his fitness. It is never easy to make a return, that too against a team like Australia. It was outstanding that he was able to come up with such a dominating performance in his comeback match against a big team," added Kaneria.

To back Kaneria's claims, Jadeja has been in top form across formats. He has had several injury concerns in the recent past but his performances haven't gone down by any means. In his last Test, during India's one-off match versus England in Edgbaston, he had scored a splendid 104 before resuming from where he left during his comeback match in Nagpur.&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation of the Nagpur Test, Jadeja said, "Feeling amazing. When you come back after five months and give your 100 percent, scoring runs and taking wickets.. feels amazing. Was working hard at the NCA. Would like to thank the NCA staff, physios. They have been working hard with me, even on Sundays. Was looking to bowl in good areas. Ball was spinning, going straight, keeping low. Kept telling myself to bowl at the stumps - if they make mistake, I have a chance. I look to keep things simple. Try not to change things with my batting. It's a crucial number - 5, 6, 7."

IND vs AUS | 'World cricket hasn't seen....': Ex-Pakistan spinner reserves high praise for Ravindra Jadeja

There is always plenty happening in Pakistan cricket. In late 2022, Ramiz Raja was sacked as Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman as Najam Sethi once again took over the post. Shahid Afridi acted as the interim chief selector before Haroon Rashid succeeded him. With Saqlain Mushtaq's tenure getting over as the head coach, there have been lots of talk regarding who will succeed the former spinner. While there were speculations of Justin Langer getting the role, the reports fizzled out sooner than later as Mickey Arthur's name started doing the rounds.

Arthur is currently serving a long-term deal with Derbyshire and isn't willing to end his County stint. Nonetheless, reportedly he was offered the role of Pakistan's head coach -- which he had served from 2016-2019 -- and is likely to become Pakistan's first online coach as PCB are keen to rehire him. Amid all this, a lot has been said and written about PCB looking set to reappoint Arthur in the Pakistan cricket setup.&nbsp;Sikander Bakht, Pakistan's former batter who represented the national side in 26 Tests, has joined the bandwagon and stated that Arthur might join as team director. In addition, he made a big claim over foreign coach's presence in&nbsp;Pakistan team setup.

'Do you think any of these can tell anything to Babar, Shadab, Shaheen?'

“I was with the Pakistan team as assistant coach from 2000-2003. The guy who was above me hadn't played a single ODI, but everyone listened to him. He was a South African, I don't remember his name. Once, I tried to tell something to one of the players but he interrupted me, saying ‘I’ve played 40 Tests, you've played 26. Let me handle it'. He actually said that. Do you think any of these can tell anything to Babar, Shadab, Shaheen? If someone comes up and tells them anything, they will…” Bakht said before he was interrupted by the anchors on&nbsp;Geo Super.

When one of the anchor interrupted and asked if there's a need for a person who ensures everyone listens to them, Bakht replied saying, "Foreign coach ke saath ye log (players) sahi rehte hain. Vo angrez rehta hai toh ye log uss se darte hain (These players are kept in check with foreign coaches. Because he's a foreigner, they are scared of him). You see, we had Javed Miandad, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Mohammad Yousuf as coaches. But no one could handle the players,” concluded the former Pakistan cricketer.

Recently, former captain and coach Misbah-ul-Haq also reacted to Arthur's likely appointment as the online coach. He didn't mince his words while speaking to ESPNCricinfo, and said, "It is a slap on our cricket system that we are not able to find a high-profile full-time coach. It is a shame that the best ones do not want to come and we insist on having someone who is looking at Pakistan as a second option."&nbsp;In addition, blasted Pakistan's cricket system, and several ex-cricketers, for using their YouTube channels for ratings. "I blame our own system, which is vulnerable enough with so many weak lines for anyone to exploit it. We are to be blamed ourselves that we have disrespected and discredited our own people to make a bad image. The present and former lot do not respect each other, with media and former players using their own YouTube channels for ratings, grossly hitting the credibility and value of our cricket which, as as result, gives an impression that we are not capable," the former right-handed batter further asserted.

'Players are in check...': Ex-cricketer on likely appointment of Mickey Arthur as Pakistan's online coach

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking a lot of big decisions in order to revive Pakistan cricket. Recently, reports came in that the PCB is set to rehire Mickey Arthur, the national side's former coach, as their first online coach. This led to a widespread criticism and former Pakistan captain-cum-coach Misbah-ul-Haq has also joined in and didn't mince his words while reacting to the likely appointment of Arthur into the Pakistani setup.&nbsp;

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Misbah said, "It is a slap on our cricket system that we are not able to find a high-profile full-time coach. It is a shame that the best ones do not want to come and we insist on having someone who is looking at Pakistan as a second option."

In addition, Misbah lashed out at Pakistan's cricket system, and also several former cricketers, for using their YouTube channels for ratings. It is believed that PCB were keen to rehire Arthur as their full-time head coach but the South African is currently on a long-term deal with Derbyshire and isn't willing to end his County stint. As per the arrangement with PCB, Arthur will not be physically present with the Pakistan team but will have his trusted people who will manage the operations on his behalf. He is expected to not travel with Babar Azam &amp; Co. for the 2023 Asia Cup but will be part of their ODI World Cup campaign, in India, followed by their Test tour of Australia later this year.

Pakistani cricketers are known to be vocal on various aspects of the modern-day game and never shy away from expressing their views. Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq made a bold claim about India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah in 2019.

Back then, Razzaq had stated during an interview with Cricket Pakistan, "I have played against great bowlers like Glenn McGrath and Wasim Akram, so Bumrah is a baby bowler in front of me and I could have easily dominated and attacked him." This time around, Razzaq has once again taken a dig at Bumrah while comparing him with Pakistan's young pacer Shaheen Afridi.

Speaking to a local news channel in Pakistan,&nbsp;Razzaq said, "Shaheen Afridi is way better than Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is nowhere close to Shaheen's level." It is to be noted that Bumrah has&nbsp;a total of 319 wickets in 30 Tests, 128 ODIs, and&nbsp;60 T20Is. On the other hand, Shaheen has accounted for 99 scalps in 25 Tests, 62 wickets in 32 ODIs, and 58 scalps in 47 T20Is. At present, both Shaheen and Bumrah have been out of action due to injury concerns.

After making a comeback, from a knee injury, during the 2022 T20 World Cup, Shaheen once again got injured (hurting his knee)&nbsp;during the tournament finale while diving to take a catch. Since then, he has been kept out of action and recently opened up on his struggles during rehabilitation. "There were times when I wanted to give up," Shaheen told&nbsp;PCB Digital. "I was working on only one muscle and it was not improving. Often during the rehabilitation sessions, I used to say to myself 'this is enough, I cannot do this anymore'. But then I used to watch my bowling on YouTube and see how well I had done and that motivated me and I told myself 'to push a little more' ... It is frustrating for a fast bowler to miss cricket because of an injury."

<section itemprop="articleBody">
"It is tough when you miss your home games because of the injury. Before our Test home season, I even missed the seven England T20Is. I was more distressed about missing the Tests because I like Test cricket more. A bowler is measured on how he performs in Test cricket and I wanted to take wickets against England."

Both India and Pakistan will be desperate to regain the services of Bumrah and Shaheen, respectively, with the ODI World Cup set to be held later this year in India.

Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram has slammed Ramiz Raja who was recently sacked from his position as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Akram referred to Raja as being a 'kid' who came to operate cricket but was forced back to his original place.&nbsp;

"He came for six days, now he is back to his original place. Najam Sethi has experience. I think it is a wrong concept, that cricketers should be the chairman of PCB. It is an administrative job, so you need to have proper communication with all the boards. Najam Sethi is the right man for the job. I don’t care if people get angry," Akram told Cricket&nbsp;Pakistan.&nbsp;

The speedster recalled the instance&nbsp;when Raja, rather petulantly, issued threats to the BCCI for not agreeing to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the Asia&nbsp;Cup.&nbsp;

"Najam Sethi gave a very sensible answer. It all depends on approval from both governments. You have to talk properly with boards. This is not gully cricket, that if you don’t come, we also will not go to your country. I don’t understand who are these kids, who come and run cricket in Pakistan."

This is not the first time that Akram has taken a dig at his former teammate. In his&nbsp;autobiography titled, "Sultan: A Memoir", Akram said Raja benefitted on the field due to his father's reputation.

Akram recalled a Test match against New Zealand where Raja received preferential treatment because his father was a police commissioner.&nbsp;

“The first over the next day was delivered by Asif Faridi, a local quick; I was thrown the new ball for the second. I was in my fourth over when John Wright, New Zealand's captain, nicked to Ramiz at second slip. For all his batting kill, Ramiz was at slip for reasons of rank, because his father was a commissioner and because he'd attended Aitchison College," Akram wrote in the book.

'Don’t understand who are these kids': Wasim Akram takes a dig at Ramiz Raja

Pakistan lost to New Zealand by 79 runs in the second and penultimate ODI, in Karachi, as the Black Caps levelled the three-match series with the finale on Friday (January 13). After dismissing NZ for 261, after they were comfortably placed at 183 for 1, Babar Azam &amp; Co. were bundled out for a paltry 182 in 43 overs to lose by a handsome margin.&nbsp;

From Pakistan's perspective, only captain Babar got going on a pitch conducive for spinners. He, however, scored 79 off 114 balls with a strike rate of 69.30. The right-hander came out to bat in the third over and was dismissed in the 43rd over and many slammed him for his slow knock and termed him selfish. While some feel he put pressure on others, many also defended him as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals from the other end. Amid all this, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has slammed Babar's critics.

"If Babar Azam is selfish, then we need two to three additional such players in the team. Babar Azam is a good player and any negative aspect of his game can be rectified," Ajmal was quoted as saying by India Today.

Ajmal also opened up on split captaincy, which is being talked about a lot in Pakistan cricket after their dismal run in home Tests in 2022. In this regard, he suggested, "There is no need for separate captains in all three formats. If they still want to do it, then they should only opt for separate captains in white and red-ball cricket."

If he is selfish, then Pakistan needs two to three such players: Saeed Ajmal slams Babar Azam's critics

Pakistan cricket team hasn't had the best of times recently. While they did well to reach the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022 final, they lost the finale on both occasions. However, it is their dismal home record in Tests which led to the team's severe criticism. In 2022, Pakistan failed to win a single Test on home soil. They lost 1-0 to Australia, were whitewashed for the first time at home in the format following the England drubbing and only managed a 0-0 stalemate versus New Zealand recently.

Following their poor run in whites, skipper Babar Azam was criticised severely with many calling for his sacking at least in the red-ball format. Now, former Pakistan captain and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has backed Babar and feels he 'is being forced to become weak'. He also opined on split captaincy and gave his verdict.

Speaking ahead of the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand, Misbah said to Geo News, "It is visible, Babar is being forced to become weak, which is not good. The kind of press conferences and questions being asked from Babar, everyone is watching."

Misbah asserted that if a shift of leadership has to come, it should be a collective decision."If there is a decision to be made, everyone should sit together and make a decision. The players, the selection committee, and the board should sit down and make a decision comfortably. They should review the situation and If they think changes should be made, then they should do it. If you put pressure on someone for any other reason, the whole team will be disturbed. It should not happen," Misbah pointed out.

On split captaincy, Misbah totally ruled out the possibility and mentioned, "Appointing separate captains shakes up everything as it gives birth to competition. It creates a political environment,” he concluded.

Currently, Babar &amp; Co. are involved in a three-match ODI series versus the Kane Williamson-led Black Caps. They lead the series 1-0 and will aim for an unassailable lead in the second and penultimate encounter, underway in Karachi on Wednesday evening (January 11).

After being whitewashed at home versus England in three Tests, Babar Azam-led Pakistan were on the back foot in both their Tests versus New Zealand before the two-match series ended in a 0-0 stalemate on Friday (January 06). Sarfaraz Ahmed, making his Test comeback after a four-year-hiatus, was the star performer for the hosts with scores of 86, 53, 78 and 118. He scored his fourth hundred during Pakistan's 319-run-chase on Day 5 of the second and final Test, in Karachi, while coming out to bat at 77 for 4. Eventually, the match ended with Pakistan 304-9 as the hosts managed to come close to the target courtesy of Sarfaraz's heroics.

Thus, Sarfaraz made a mark and returned with vital contributions whenever he came out to bat in the NZ Tests. As a result, he was adjudged the Player-of-the-Series for for his hard-fought&nbsp;335 runs in four innings. He was recalled into the Test line-up after Md Rizwan -- who remains ahead of Sarfaraz in white-ball formats -- struggled in the England Tests. Ahead of the New Zealand ODI series opener, skipper Babar was asked, in a pre-match presser,&nbsp;if he regrets not giving Sarfaraz a chance in the England series and making him wait&nbsp;for four years. To this, the right-hander had a blunt response up his sleeves. Here's the video:

Journalist:&nbsp;Sarfaraz didn't get a chance for four years but when he got one, he proved his selection. He not only scored a century but also saved Pakistan’s prestige. Do you think he should have got a chance in the England series and do you have any regret that he wasn't part of the Test XI for four years?

Babar:&nbsp;As I mentioned before in the Test match presser, the way he waited, he remained undeterred and didn't lose hope. Both sides will now shift their focus towards the 50-over format with the World Cup set to be held later this year in India.

After a disappointing run in Tests in 2022, Pakistan have started their 2023 season with the second and final Test versus New Zealand in Karachi. The series opener ended in a draw, where New Zealand got a healthy first-innings lead and dominated the game, whereas the final encounter is also heading towards a draw.

For quite sometime, Pakistan have been poor in Tests and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been strongly criticised for producing poor surfaces, favouring only the batters. It was evident in the Pakistan-Australia series and also the case in the England series. As a result, Pakistan bowlers couldn't impress and their batters fell behind as compared to their counterparts' free-flowing approach. Pakistan lost 1-0 to Australia and suffered their first-ever Test series whitewash with Ben Stokes &amp; Co. hammering them 3-0.

As the New Zealand series has also been a sluggish affair, with pitches being flat as ever, former Kiwi cricketer Simon Doull made a glaring remark. He asked if&nbsp;such pitches are demanded by captain Babar Azam for him&nbsp;to improve his numbers in&nbsp;Tests.

"Where does that directive come from? Does that come from Babar who wants to bat on a road and improve his own stats?" Doull questioned. "Does it come from above him?" the co-commentator responded.

'Does the directive come from Babar Azam?': Simon Doull's glaring remark on Pakistan pitches during 2nd Test

Pakistan cricket is going through a lot in recent times. Recently, Ramiz Raja was ousted as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief. The former Pakistan captain took over the post in September 2021 but was severely criticised for the dead pitches Pakistan offered in home Tests, the national side's inability to win Asia Cup and T20 World Cups (in 2021 and 2022) and all hell broke loose following Babar Azam &amp; Co.'s 3-0 whitewash over England on home soil in December 2022.

Following his stint, with Najam Sethi succeeding him, ex-PCB chief Ramiz has opened up on several decisions he took during his tenure. At first, Ramiz had removed the then head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis right before the 2021 T20 WC, in the UAE. Reflecting on his decision, Ramiz recently stated that he doesn't regret this call and felt the need to remove them during his commentary stints. He further mentioned that they were given full payments for two years and respected fully.

“They received their full payments for two years. They were given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him with Mickey Arthur. I made contracts in such a way that I didn't want the board to be left with a coaching setup for three years,” Raja told Samaa TV.

Ramiz added, "We had yearly contracts. They (Misbah and Waqar) would've left in January/February anyway. We brought a new management. It wasn't easy for me. I've played with Waqar, I talked to him in detail. The CEO talked to Misbah. It obviously didn't look good that the change took place with a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup.&nbsp;But I had an idea that we could only go to a certain extent with them. When I used to do commentary, I realised that a change was necessary."

'It was my right...': Ex-PCB chief Ramiz Raja opens up on Misbah, Waqar sacking before 2021 T20 WC

A lot of changes have taken place in Pakistan cricket in recent times. Ramiz Raja, the former Pakistan captain, was recently sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s chief with Najam Sethi taking over. Moreover, Shahid Afridi was named the interim chief selector with Abdul Razzaq and&nbsp;Rao Iftikhar Anjum joining him on the panel as well. In addition, a lot has been said about Babar Azam as a Test captain but he remains the full-time skipper as of now.

Ramiz's tenure came to a sudden end after Pakistan lost their first-ever Test series on home soil, with England&nbsp;drubbing them 3-0. A lot has been said and written about his stint as the PCB chief. Recently, Ramiz blasted Najam Sethi and criticised the functioning of the PCB and once again took a shot at Indian cricket while pointing out the achievements of the national side in&nbsp;his tenure.

“We gave outstanding performances in white-ball cricket. We played the Asia Cup final, India didn't play that. India, a billion-dollar industry, was left behind. Tod phod hui, unhone apna chief selector, selection committee fire kar di, captain badal diye, kyunki unko hazam nahi hua ki Pakistan unse kaise aage nikal gaya. (They fired their chief selector, selection committee, changed the captain because they couldn't digest how Pakistan went ahead of them),” Ramiz told&nbsp;Suno TV.

Further, Ramiz talked&nbsp;about being sacked as PCB chairman and said,&nbsp;“This is just like France firing their entire board even after they played in the FIFA World Cup final.”

The former Pakistan star also revealed that he empowered Babar Azam at all times and ensured his best performances as leader of the side. "I tried my level best to keep this team united. I empowered Babar Azam. Cricket is one of those rare sports where captaincy is relevant. If your captain is powerful, results will come, and we have given results,”&nbsp;Ramiz concluded.

At present, PCB has threatened legal action against&nbsp;Ramiz&nbsp;over his outbursts&nbsp;on his successor Najam Sethi. Thus, there is a lot happening in Pakistan cricket amid the national side's ongoing home Tests versus New Zealand.

'They couldn't digest how Pakistan....': Former PCB chief Ramiz Raja again takes a dig at India

Shortly after Pakistan was whitewashed in their three-match home Test series versus England, Ramiz Raja was sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief. Ramiz's tenure was expected to come to an end soon after Imran Khan, Pakistan's World Cup-winning skipper, resigned as the country's Prime Minister in April, however, the ex-captain held onto the post for a longer period.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, all hell broke loose for Ramiz after England thrashed Pakistan at home. His tenure as the PCB chairman was marred with controversies and he was often slammed for further deteriorating the cricketing relations between India and Pakistan with his continuous rant against the arch-rivals. Ramiz's criticism of Indian cricket increased ever since the BCCI made it official that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and will shift the event to a neutral venue. To this, Ramiz had revealed that Pakistan also won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup if India boycott&nbsp;the Asia Cup in Pakistan.

The 60-year-old Ramiz has now opened up on why he was pained by India so much during his stint as the PCB chief.&nbsp;"I have got great regard for Indian cricket fans. I have enjoyed my stay in India over the years. Cricket breaks boundaries. I have received a lot of love from India as a commentator and as a cricketer. India thought Asia Cup cannot happen in Pakistan. India withdrew from Asia Cup without any discussion which was painful. I took a strong stance on this issue as a chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board," the former skipper said on his YouTube channel.

Earlier, Ramiz had made a big claim after BCCI's take on next year's Asia Cup. "If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja told Urdu News in November.&nbsp;

Thus, it remains to be seen what the future will look like for two mega events set to be held next year; i.e. the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI WC. However, Ramiz's rant against India didn't help the cause and even led to his sacking. He has now been replaced by Najam Sethi.

"I have got...' - Ramiz Raja opens up on continuous rant against India during his tenure as PCB chief

Babar Azam-led Pakistan were whitewashed in the recently-held home Test series versus England. While they had their moments in the opening two matches, Pakistan lost the final Test by eight wickets in Karachi. It became the first instance where Pakistan suffered a Test series whitewash on home soil and, hence, many have lashed out at captain Babar.

Sikander Bakht, former Pakistan pacer who represented the national side in&nbsp;26 Tests and 27 ODIs, has now slammed Babar for his clueless captaincy.&nbsp; "Our captain doesn't know how to lead the side. He selects the team. I noted in this Test that he picked Salman Agha as a batsman, whereas he is actually an all-rounder. Stokes used Joe Root as a part-time bowler in this series, and our captain simply forgets everything," Bakht said on GEO Super. "He didn't give Iftikhar an over in three consecutive games, then gave him all four overs in an important match," he further opined.

Bakht added, "This is a very big issue. We have to seriously consider whether Babar even deserves the captaincy or not. Rizwan is also an issue for us. And our issues are only increasing."

After the England Tests, Pakistan are very much out of contention for a place in the ICC World Test Championship final. They will next face New Zealand at home in a two-match Test series, starting on December 26. Amid the growing criticism over his captaincy, Babar will be desperate to stand tall and revive his team's fortunes.

'Our captain doesn't know....': Ex-Pakistan pacer lashes out at Babar Azam after England whitewash

In the aftermath of Pakistan's home Test series loss versus England, Ramiz Raja has been sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief. There were reports of the former Pakistan captain set to be removed from the top post. On Wednesday (December 21), it is believed that Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif&nbsp;gave his nod to the appointment of Najam Sethi as the new PCB chairman. It is to be noted that Ramiz had secured the post in September 2021.

Raja, who was nominated directly for the post on August 27, 2021 by the then Pakistan's PM Imran Khan, is only the fourth Test cricketer to don the chairman's hat after Ijaz Butt, Javed Burki and Abdul Hafeez Kardar. It was Raja's second stint as the PCB chief, having held the post earlier&nbsp;from 2003 to 2004. Talking about Ramiz's second tenure, it was full of ups and downs. During his tenure, Pakistan achieved a glorious high of finally managing to beat arch-rivals India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, in the UAE. Further, the senior men's team entered the semi-finals of the last year's T20 WC, ended as runners-up in the Asia Cup 2022 and recently-held T20 WC in Australia. However, the team saw a huge dip by losing the home Tests and only T20I versus Australia, early this year, before being whitewashed for the first time in whites on their home soil in the just-concluded England Tests. In addition, they lost the seven-match T20I series versus the Three Lions ahead of this yea's&nbsp;T20 WC.&nbsp;

Najam Sethi, on the other hand, has already served as the PCB chief before. He gave his resignation in mid-2018 and was succeeded by Ehsan Mani, who was later replaced by Ramiz Raja after he quit in August 2021. Najam, hence, has a tough ask in hand to resurrect Team Pakistan -- at all levels -- and promote domestic cricket in the country, with many questioning the current crop of batters. Several questions have also been raised on Babar following Pakistan's dismal home run recently. It will be interesting to see if more changes are in store.&nbsp;

India and Pakistan locked horns in the 2021 T20 World Cup after a long gap, following the 2019 ODI World Cup. While the head-to-head record favoured India, the then Virat Kohli-led Indian team fell flat against the Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. Being asked to bat first, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, Kohli &amp; Co. managed a modest 151 for 7, after being 31 for 3 at one stage, and didn't put up any sort of fight while defending the total. As a result, skipper Babar and Md Rizwan's unbeaten 152-run opening stand took the Men in Green to their first-ever World Cup win over their arch-rivals.&nbsp;

Rizwan, in an interview with&nbsp;Sky Sports Cricket,&nbsp;recalled his side's epic win over Team India last year. He revealed how the Pakistan fans responded to the win and went all-out in their love and admiration for the national side.&nbsp;"When we won against India, that time, I thought it was only a match for me. It was because we won that game easily. But when I came to Pakistan, I realised how much it meant. Whenever I went to a shop, they won't take money from me. They would say, 'you go, you go. I won't take money from you!'" Rizwan said. "People would say, 'everything is free for you here. This is the love from all of Pakistan after that match," he added.

Rizwan (79 not out) and Babar (68 not out) were the top performers with the bat but Shaheen Afridi set it up for his side with an impressive 3 for 31 with the ball.&nbsp;

India and Pakistan locked horns in the 2021 T20 World Cup after a long gap, following the 2019 ODI World Cup. While the head-to-head record favoured India, the then Virat Kohli-led Indian team fell flat against the Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. Being asked to bat first, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, Kohli & Co. managed a modest 151 for 7, after being 31 for 3 at one stage, and didn't put up any sort of fight while defending the total. As a result, skipper Babar and Md Rizwan's unbeaten 152-run opening stand took the Men in Green to their first-ever World Cup win over their arch-rivals. Rizwan, in an interview with Sky Sports Cricket, recalled his side's epic win over Team India last year. He revealed how the Pakistan fans responded to the win and went all-out in their love and admiration for the national side. "When we won against India, that time, I thought it was only a match for me. 'Whenever I went to shop...': Rizwan on Pakistan fans' response after win over India in 2021 T20 WC

Pakistan, under Babar Azam, reached the T20 World Cup 2022 final but lost to eventual winners England at the MCG, Melbourne last month. Their campaign was a topsy-turvy affair as the Men in Green lost their opening two games only to win four in a row and make the final. It was a young squad which impressed many, however, there was a lot of talk regarding the squad which didn't have veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik.&nbsp;

Malik was part of the 2021 T20 World Cup campaign, in the UAE, and did come up with some valuable contributions. However, the 40-year-old last played for the Men in Green during the Bangladesh T20Is, in Mirpur, and has been out of favour since then. After his T20 WC omission, he had shared a cryptic tweet saying, "When will we come out from friendship, liking &amp; disliking culture. Allah always helps the honest."&nbsp;

A month after the T20 WC final, Malik has opened up on his omission and credited skipper Babar Azam foer being vocal about his non-selection. He said on Cricket Pakistan, "Mujhe nahi pata inside news kya hai, lekin Babar ne mujhe Asia Cup me bola tha ki World Cup me ye hi team jaayegi. Uski side se sab communicate hota raha, vo mere se achhe terms pe hai. Main usko apna chhota bhai samajhta hu, uski grooming ya help out karne me, ya jab bhi usko discuss karni hai cheezein, main hamesha se vahan hu aur rahunga. (I don't know what's the inside news, but Babar Azam informed me during the 2022 Asia Cup that the same team will be part of the upcoming T20 WC in Australia. He was in constant communication and remains&nbsp;on good terms with me. I consider him my younger brother. I'm always ready to help him out whenever needed)."

Further, the former Pakistan captain Malik asserted that he does not hold a grudge against Babar and only wants him to grow as a player. “Main aisa nahi hu ki agar main kisi vajah se team me nahi aaya, toh main naaraz ho jau ya muh bana lu. Main aisa bilkul nahi hu. Main karunga bhi nahi aisa. Meri duaa hai uske saath, main chahta hu vo grow kare aur Pakistan team ko, aur uski performances ko top of the table rakhe. (I don't hold a grudge against Babar. I'm certainly not like that. I want him to grow and help Pakistan be on top),” he added.

At present, the Babar-led Pakistan line-up is involved in the second and penultimate Test versus England in Multan. The home side lost the Rawalpindi Test by 74 runs in what was a high-scoring affair. Pakistan will hope to level the series and go on to win it with ICC World Test Championship final ticket up for grabs.

'He told me during Asia Cup...': Shoaib Malik credits Babar Azam for being vocal about his T20 WC omission

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Wasim Akram has taken another dig at his compatriots from back in the day. In his autobiography titled, "Sultan: A Memoir", Akram dubbed Rashid Latif a 'lobbyist' while addressing Aamir Sohail as a 'zombie figure'.

In an excerpt from the book, Akram recounted an incident from 2000 when Latif went to give an interview to a UK newspaper. "The lobbyists were at work. In July 2000, Rashid Latif gave an interview to The Sunday Telegraph in which he claimed to have been offered £15,000 to ensure Pakistan were bowled out for under 300 in the 1996 Lord's Test," wrote Akram in the book. "And who knows? Maybe he had. But had he told me, his captain, at the time? No. Had he reported it to his coach or manager? No. Had he told Qayyum? No. Amazingly, these stories only ever came out when he wanted attention." Similarly, Akram took a shot at former Pakistan opener Aamir Sohail who coincidentally was a key member of the Pakistan outfit that won the 1992 World Cup. "I was publicly reinstated as captain for the DMC Trophy in Toronto. The clamour for change was satisfied by a new coach, Wasim Raja, and new selectors: Wasim's brother Ramiz, Naushad Ali and Abdur Raquib. They recalled, after his tireless lobbying, the zombie figure of Aamir Sohail," wrote Akram. Akram's other revelations This is not the first time that explosive revelations have come out of Akram's book. In a previously released excerpt, Akram said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja benefitted on the field due to his father's reputation. Akram recalled a Test match against New Zealand where the PCB boss received preferential treatment because his father was a police commissioner. Read more: 'Ramiz Raja was at slip due to his father's rank': Wasim Akram makes another bombshell claim Akram revealed that his former captain Saleem Malik took advantage of his junior status. "He would take advantage of my junior status. He was negative, selfish and treated me like a servant. He demanded I massage him; he ordered me to clean his clothes and boots."
