Pakistan men's cricket team captain Babar Azam continues to face flak from former cricketers and fans after his team lost the T20 World Cup match against India. After legendary pacer Wasim Akram went on an explosive rant against the team, former allrounder Shahid Afridi has suggested that Babar needs to be dropped at no. 3 for the balance of the team.

Pakistan have been struggling to get off the blocks in the powerplay overs, primarily due to Babar and Mohammad Rizwan being similar kind of players. Afridi&nbsp;suggested that head coach Gary Kirsten&nbsp;make the necessary changes as Pakistan still had not exited the tournament.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“I think now is the time for Gary Kirsten and Babar Azam to make some changes. I would like to see Salman Ali Agha come into the side in place of Usman Khan and Abrar Ahmed to come in for Shadab Khan,” said Afridi.&nbsp;

“Most of all, I believe Fakhar Zaman should be promoted to open the innings alongside Mohammad Rizwan, with Babar dropping down to number three," he added.&nbsp;

Pakistan are in the precipice of exiting the World Cup. A poor outing against Canada on Tuesday (Jun 11) could be curtains for the team that has struggled in the shortest format of the game in the last couple of years. &nbsp;

“There are some tough conversations and choices to come but we need to remember that there is still hope,&nbsp;Pakistan are not out of the tournament yet," said Afridi.&nbsp;

Shahid Afridi believes Babar Azam needs 'dropping down' after T20 World Cup loss vs India

USA defeated Pakistan in a thrilling Super Over clash in match 11 of the T20 World Cup, being held in USA and West Indies. India-born&nbsp;Saurabh Netravalkar was the star of the show, as he halted Pakistan's run chase in the Super Over to hand his team a memorable win. As soon as the last ball was bowled, his teammates rejoiced and hugged&nbsp;Saurabh. However,&nbsp;Saurabh didn't break into any wild&nbsp;celebratory gestures and maintained a calm grin.

At the&nbsp;Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, Babar Azam &amp; Co. were asked to bat first and the Men in Green posted 159 for 7, after struggling in the first ten overs. In reply, USA tied the game, managing&nbsp;159/3. In the Super Over, pacer&nbsp;Netravalkar held his nerves to defend USA's score of 18/1 as Pakistan only managed 13, with the loss of a wicket, to lose by five runs.

Talking about the Super Over, USA piled up 18 in six balls, bowled by an erratic Mohammad Amir (who had a good outing during the run-chase, with 1 for 25). In reply, Pakistan gave themselves a chance with Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed coming out to bat but&nbsp;Netravalkar -- with match figures of 2 for 18 -- took USA to a historic win. Here is the clip of USA's winning moment (shared by a fan on X):

Asked to bat first, Pakistan lost Mohammad Rizwan,&nbsp;Usman Khan and Zaman early as&nbsp;Netravalkar and left-arm spinner&nbsp;Nosthush Kenjige made a fine start with the ball. Skipper Babar (43-ball 44) and Shadab Khan (40) added 72 for the fourth-wicket to revive their innings. In the end, Iftikhar and Shaheen Afridi's finishing acts propelled the 2009 winners to a competitive 159 for 7.&nbsp;

However, USA batters looked determined to chase down the score. Skipper Monank Patel held one end and added 36 runs with his opening partner Steven Taylor before putting on another 68 with&nbsp;Andries Gous (35). While the two were back in the hut before the death overs, vice-captain Aaron Jones' 36 not out ensured the game went into the Super Over. Amir and Naseem Shah were economical and chipped in with a wicket each, however, Pakistan's sloppy fielding and erratic bowling -- especially in the Super Over -- led to their shocking loss.

Ahead of taking over as Pakistan's white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten opened up on how he wants to ease things for Babar Azam. Babar recently got reappointed as the limited-overs captain and will lead the Men in Green in the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA in June. Kirsten stated that he, along with his coaching staff, will want Babar to play with more freedom citing his recent 42-ball 75 in the three-match T20I series finale versus Ireland in Dublin.

Babar played with a lot more freedom and was in his attacking best in the Ireland-Pakistan series decider, with the scoreline tied at 1-1.

Courtesy of his knock, and Player-of-the-Match Shaheen Afridi's 3 for 14, the Asian giants won by six wickets in pursuit of 179.

Kirsten -- who will take over as the white-ball coach with the upcoming T20 WC is first assignment -- feels Babar carries a lot of weight of the team on his shoulders, which needs to stop.

On Pakistan's over-dependence on Babar, Kirsten said on Talk Sport, "It is not fair on any player. He shouldn't feel like he has to be contributing all the time to a team. I've been in touch with Babar. He's done remarkably well and carries a lot of the weight of the team on his shoulders."

The South African, who coached India and led them to 2011 ODI WC glory, further added, "What we will try to do as a coaching staff is to lift that a little bit and to realise he's just one of a whole group of players and that he can free himself up to play with his natural talent."

Babar replaced Shaheen as the T20I captain just recently before the World Cup, which kicks off on June 1. Pakistan are placed in Group A along with India, Ireland, USA and Canada.&nbsp;

Pakistan's limited-overs coach Gary Kirsten shares his take on Babar Azam, aims to 'take pressure off' him

Former Pakistan cricketer Saeed Anwar has come under heavy scrutiny following his sexist remarks that divorce rates in the country had shot up due to women entering the workforce.

The undated video of Anwar's unhinged rant has gone viral on social media with netizens questioning how a player of his calibre could have such a narrow worldview.&nbsp;

“Since women have started working in Pakistan, divorce rates have climbed by 30 per cent in the last three years," Anwar said in the video.&nbsp;

“The wives say, ‘to hell with you, I can earn myself. I can run a household on my own'. This is a whole game plan. You will not understand this game plan unless you find guidance,” he added.

Anwar also claimed that during his travels abroad, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson had raised the issue of societal disruptions due to women entering the workforce.&nbsp;

“I have travelled the world. I am just returning from Australia, Europe. Youngsters are suffering, families are in bad shape. Couples are fighting. The state of affairs is so bad that they have to make their women work for money,” Anwar said.

"New Zealand's captain Kane Williamson called me to ask, ‘How will our society get better?'... The Australian mayor said to me, ‘Our culture has been destroyed since our women entered the workforce’," he added.&nbsp;

T20 WC: PCB chief announces WHOPPING amount for each Pakistan player if Men in Green emerge victorious

Fans had a field day trolling the Pakistan men's cricket team after their newly appointed white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, held the first meeting with the players via video conferencing. The South African is currently in India, working for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Gujarat Titans as the batting coach.&nbsp;

While Kirsten connected through the video call, the Pakistani players could be seen present in the conference room, taking note of what their new coach was instructing.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), posted a video of the meeting on its social media handles which instantly led to mass trolling, as some suggested that Pakistan team might start playing 'online cricket'.&nbsp;

"How do players learn from a coach through a laptop screen?" said one user, while another commented: "Only in Pakistan. A WFH coach for the national team."

A third added: "There was a man called MICKEY ARTHUR who was the ONLINE ZOOM coach of Pakistan Cricket. That was the ruining moment of Pakistan Cricket. Hopefully Gary Kirsten will join the team soon. Most likely in ENG series."

Meanwhile, one fan suggested:&nbsp;"Pakistan team should start playing cricket online too."

After being appointed the white-ball head coach, Kirsten&nbsp;revealed his ultimate goal was to unite the otherwise fragmented Pakistan team.&nbsp;

Fans had a field day trolling the Pakistan men's cricket team after their newly appointed white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, held the first meeting with the players via video conferencing. The South African is currently in India, working for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Gujarat Titans as the batting coach. While Kirsten connected through the video call, the Pakistani players could be seen present in the conference room, taking note of what their new coach was instructing. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), posted a video of the meeting on its social media handles which instantly led to mass trolling, as some suggested that Pakistan team might start playing 'online cricket'. "How do players learn from a coach through a laptop screen?" said one user, while another commented: "Only in Pakistan. A WFH coach for the national team." A third added: "There was a man called MICKEY ARTHUR who was the ONLINE ZOOM coach of Pakistan Cricket. That was the ruining moment of Pakistan Cricket. Hopefully Gary Kirsten will join the team soon. Most likely in ENG series." Meanwhile, one fan suggested: "Pakistan team should start playing cricket online too." Azhar Mahmood believes other teams should not write off Pakistan ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will kickoff in June in West Indies and USA. At present, a lot of changes have taken place in the leadership group within the senior national team. Babar Azam has once again been appointed as the white-ball skipper whereas Mahmood was recently roped in as the head coach ahead of his side's five-match T20I series versus New Zealand at home. Mahmood opined that Babar &amp; Co. have performed well in recent ICC tournaments even though they have not won a major title since 2017.&nbsp;

Ahead of the NZ T20Is, which starts on April 18 in Rawalpindi, Mahmood said in a press conference, "Our strength is pure talent and skill. We’ve performed decently on the world stage in the format, and we’ve recently featured in the World Cup finals (2022) and semi-finals (2021). We know we haven’t won a big tournament since 2009 (Men’s T20 World Cup) or the Champions Trophy (2017). But you can never write off the Pakistan team, especially in the T20 format."

He further opined, "We’ve the depth and strength, but there are always areas for improvement. Looking at those aspects, especially in the areas that we’ve lagged behind, is something that I’ve worked on."

Mahmood added, "So till the World Cup, we’d like to develop a structure and game plan, to give role clarity to players. In our squad, we’ve young talent Irfan Niazi, Azam (Khan) and Usman Khan. So definitely, we’ve to give these players a look. We need to use our bench strength. But at the same time, from the discussion I’ve had, we should be aware of our best XI when we play our first game on 6 June in the T20 World Cup."

Pakistan have a mix of young and experienced players in their squad for the home T20Is versus the second-stringed Black Caps. They have added Imad Wasim and Mohammed Amir, who came out of international retirements, whereas the squad also comprises debutants such as&nbsp;Irfan Niazi and Usman Khan.&nbsp;

The one-time winners will be eager to gel well and get some victories under the new leadership group before heading into the T20 WC. They are placed in Group A along with arch-rivals India, USA, Canada and Ireland.&nbsp;

‘You can never write off Pakistan’: Azhar Mahmood issues warning to other teams ahead of T20 World Cup

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has lashed out at rumours which claim that Shaheen Afridi might be removed as the T20I captain. Shaheen was appointed the captain in the shortest format post Pakistan's horror run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, after which Babar Azam was sacked from the top post across formats. Since then, the pacer has led in only five T20Is, versus New Zealand, where he managed only one win. Recently, there have been reports of Shaheen's sacking, which irked his father-in-law Shahid.&nbsp;

<h2>'Biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes...'</h2>

Talking to the media in Karachi, as quoted by PTI, Afridi said, "I think that if you have appointed someone as captain (Shaheen) and given him the responsibility then give him time as well." He further opined, "The biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes whenever the faces change in the board. Whoever comes thinks whatever he is doing is the best for Pakistan cricket."

Afridi added, "If you change the captain then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to change him now is wrong." He even shared his take on the appointment of a foreigner as Pakistan coach but said the person should be a high-profile individual like Andy Flower (with a great track record). In this regard, he said, "I believe that even if you bring in a foreign coach, the staff under him should be Pakistani so that our people can also move forward and improve their skills."

There are speculations that the new governing committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would reinstate Babar Azam and sack Shaheen as the captain of the T20I side ahead of the T20 WC, which gets underway on June 1.

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has been urged to reconsider his retirement in the wake of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The request comes after Wasim helped Islamabad United win their third Pakistan Super League (PSL) title. Wasim played a crucial role in the final and two eliminators, which prompted his teammate Shadab Khan to ask him to come out of retirement.

"I want to (him to be back), in fact, when Imad made the decision (to retire), I had also talked to him that I didn't want him to leave," Shadab said after winning the PSL final against Multan Sultans on Monday (Mar 18).

Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah didn’t mince his words while opening up about the dressing room environment in the Pakistan Cricket Team. The right-arm seamer, who returned to competitive cricket following a lengthy layoff due to injury, revealed that a sense of insecurity of being replaced by someone new prevails among players in case they miss out on playing regular games or take rest.

Shah missed the 2023 World Cup in India due to a shoulder injury and remained on the sidelines for the remainder of the year, including missing the two tours Down Under (Tests against Australia and T20Is versus New Zealand).

Admitting to fear the same as new faces emerged on the scene across formats, Shah said in a chat with Cricwick,&nbsp;"Honestly, the main players are afraid of giving their bodies rest even when they know they need a break because the Pakistan cricket culture is such that if a new player comes in and performs in a match or two, you don't know if he will replace you permanently in the team." &nbsp;

"This fear does not allow players to rest because you are scared your careers could end there," the young bowler said.

Citing examples of different cultures in different teams, Shah pointed out that in some countries, the players are assured of their places in the side despite missing action for whatever reason, unlike in Pakistan.

Regarded as perhaps the most sort-after emerging pacer in world cricket, Shah has a scary history of getting injured.&nbsp;

From staying away from cricket for nearly 14 months due to a back injury at 17, Shah has suffered shoulder injury twice in his career, most recently last year during the Asia Cup, after which he got sidelined for an indefinite period.

Shah last bowled in international cricket against India in the 2023 Asia Cup tie in Colombo, and upon feeling discomfort in his bowling arm, he never returned to playing for Pakistan for the rest of the year.

Explaining what happened that day, Shah said, "I had stiffness in my shoulder, but after warm-ups, it would get better, and I played through it. But during the Asia Cup, I had a tear and felt something tearing inside me."&nbsp;

The right-arm pacer underwent shoulder surgery in the UK, where the doctors informed him that the tear was 4-5 centimetres long.&nbsp;

‘Fear, anxiety and insecurity’` – Naseem Shah describes Pakistan’s dressing room environment

Former Pakistan men's cricket team captain Babr Azam has lamented that the decision taken by the team management to demote him from the opening slot was not right.

Babar was pushed down the batting order in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. Prior to the demotion, it was Babar and Mohammad Rizwan pair that opened the innings for Pakistan.&nbsp;

"I didn't feel or take any pressure whenever I open the innings (in T20Is). The team was demanding me to come down to No. three, and I did it for the team. If asked from a personal perspective, I was not satisfied with the move, but I did it for Pakistan," Babar said after a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match.&nbsp;

Despite not liking the change, Babar performed adequately in the series, coming in to bat at no. 3. He scored three half-centuries (57, 66, and 58 runs) but it wasn't enough as New Zealand won the series 4-1.&nbsp;

Notably, the decision&nbsp;to change the batting spot of their star player was taken by&nbsp;captain Shaheen Afridi and former director of cricket, Mohammad Hafeez.

Hafeez revealed that it took him&nbsp;more than two months to convince Babar to bat at no. 3 as it was better for the team in the long run.&nbsp;

Babar's demotion came a few months after he stepped down as the team captain in all three formats post a&nbsp;disastrous World Cup campaign in India last year. Babar said it was a 'difficult decision' but the right time to make such a call.

The men-in-green lost five of their nine games, including a humbling defeat against arch-rivals India. The team also lost to neighbours Afghanistan and could not qualify for the knockouts, finishing in the fifth spot on the points table.&nbsp;

Pakistan as a unit looked miles behind the pace when compared to other teams. The subcontinent team was found guilty of playing an archaic brand of cricket in ODIs which boils down to the personality of the captain, experts argued.&nbsp;

‘Not satisfied with the move’: Babar Azam slams management’s decision to demote him to no. 3

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has narrowed in on a few options for the vacant head coach role for the men’s national team, with veteran cricketers – Shane Watson and Darren Sammy emerging as top contenders for the position. Pakistan is currently without a head coach, and the board aims to lock in someone permanently instead of temporarily, as was the case with Mohammad Hafeez, whom the PCB appointed for the tours Down Under in December and January.

Pakistan's next international series is the white-ball leg against New Zealand at home in April.&nbsp;

Watson, appointed as the head coach of Quetta Gladiators in the PSL, is currently in Pakistan and has overseen a turnaround for the franchise, guiding them to their first playoffs in five seasons. On the other hand, Sammy&nbsp;also shares a dear relationship with Pakistan since his role as the captain of Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2017, and is hence among the names discussed for the head coach role.

Though the latest reports suggest that the PCB has approached Watson for the top position in Pakistan Cricket, the Aussie legend has yet to respond to their offer due to his work-related limitations.

Watson lives in Sydney with his young family and has a tight schedule at his disposal throughout the year. Watson serves as the coach of San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket, besides committing to Star Sports for the commentator’s role for the ICC-related events and the Indian Premier League. The lanky all-rounder had earlier worked with Ricky Ponting as an assistant for Delhi Capitals in IPL.

Like how the PCB cracked a mid-way deal with Mickey Arthur as their Director of Cricket earlier by allowing him to spend limited time with the team, mainly during marquee events, the board must find a way to rope in Watson permanently. The chances of this deal going ahead will depend on the duration the board wants Watson to stay in Pakistan.

<h2>Sammy in line for head coach role</h2>

Meanwhile, Sammy, West Indies limited-overs coach, is hugely popular among Pakistani fans, which makes his case slightly more viable than Watson's.&nbsp;

As things stand, Sammy is coaching the Peshawar Zalmi side in the PSL 2024, which has also qualified for the playoffs.

The PCB's dealing with appointing a head coach has been a complicated process. After an indifferent 2023 World Cup in India, wherein Pakistan failed to seal the semis spot despite the conditions favouring them, now-ousted PCB chief Zaka Ashraf removed Arthur and Grant Bradburn (previous full-time coach) from their positions, appointing Hafeez as the lone boss on Pakistan’s tours of Australia and New Zealand.&nbsp;

Former Pakistan captain Mohammed Hafeez, who was recently sacked as Men in Green's&nbsp;director of cricket, has slammed the national side for poor fitness standards. Hafeez, in a recent interaction,&nbsp;has stated that the current Pakistani players do not have the fitness to play international cricket.

Hafeez was recently removed as the director of cricket for Pakistan after the senior team's woeful run Down Under, where they lost three Tests to Australia (0-3) and five T20Is in New Zealand (going down 1-4). Soon after his contract was not extended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the former all-rounder revealed, on X (formerly Twitter), that he will disclose the reason for Men in Green's recent failures.

Now, talking on A Sports, Hafeez ripped apart Pakistan's fitness culture and blamed former captain Babar Azam and ex-coach Mickey Arthur. "When we went to Australia, I told the players to take care of their fitness levels. I also asked the trainer about the fitness of the players. He told me a shocking thing that six months ago captain (Babar Azam) and Director of Cricket (Mickey Arthur) told me to stop checking the players on the fitness parameters and let them play the way they want," Hafeez said.

He added, "When the fat levels of the players were checked, the skin fold of all of them was high - for most players it was 1.5 times the limit. They were unfit and some of them couldn’t complete a 2 km trial run. The decision taken 6 months back overruled the set criteria for fitness. You will suffer defeats if the fitness is like that."

Hafeez also revealed that it took him two months to convince Babar&nbsp;to drop down to No. 3 spot in T20Is.&nbsp;

Hafeez said, "It took me about two months to convince Babar Azam that you have to do it for Pakistan and you are not the first one who's doing it. You are a great player, you are a wonderful player, and you play great cricket. However, you have to develop a Pakistan team. You and Rizwan are very good players, excellent players, but you are not the whole team."

"We need to develop a team and, for that, I want you to come, at number 3 because you have been playing this role in ODI cricket for the last six years, so it won't affect you. Technically, you are very solid. Thank you very much to him that he accepted this, and he played for Pakistan at No. 3 which obviously, I think is the best way to move," he further added.

In the recent past, nothing has clicked for Pakistan. They failed to enter the semifinals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, which led to Babar Azam's removal as captain. Following the ODI WC, Pakistan had a miserable tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Babar Azam, Mickey Arthur put fitness in backseat: Pakistan's former director of cricket Mohammad Hafeez

You have to do it: Sacked Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez recalls tough conversation with Babar Azam

Mohammad Hafeez, the recently sacked Pakistan team director, has promised to reveal the reasons behind the termination of his contract apart from 'new chairmanship.' Hafeez was appointed the team director after Pakistan's poor show in the ODI World Cup 2023. The former skipper's stint, however, was cut short from initial four years to just two months after Pakistan's horrendous tour of Australia and New Zealand. They were whitewashed 0-3 in the Test series against Australia and&nbsp;lost to New Zealand 1-4 in the T20Is.

Writing on his official X handle, Hafeez said: "I always prioritise and represented Pakistan with dignity and pride. I accepted the new role as a Director PCB with great passion to make positive reforms but unfortunately my designated tenure which was offered by Pakistan Cricket Board for 4 years was cut short for 2 months on the account of new chairmanship. Best wishes for Pakistan cricket future. As always, I foremost take responsibility and put myself accountable for all my executions in my given time and will accordingly reveal all the cricketing and other amateur non cricketing facts which ensue bad performances. Stay tuned."

"Hafeez's passion for the game has inspired players and his mentorship during the tour of Australia and New Zealand have been of immense importance. The PCB wishes Hafeez good luck and success in his future endeavours," it further added.

Mohammad Hafeez, ex-Pakistan team director, promises to reveal 'facts' behind his sacking

Former Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur, who was part of the side during their 2023 ODI World Cup debacle, has pointed out that instability in the team structure has resulted in players focusing on their performances and spots, rather than team performance. Arthur recently resigned from his post at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Arthur stated, "When there's security within the environment, Pakistan is very good. When there's that insecurity, players start playing for themselves instead of the team because they're thinking of the next tour, and the next contract. That's a dangerous place to be in, and that's kind of where Pakistan cricket is now. And that's something that's very disappointing and sad for me."

He opined, "There's a massive amount of talent there, There are some world-class players, not just talented players. They're not given the support structure that they need to flourish."

Arthur added, "I still follow Pakistan cricket and I'll always follow it. But the vigour and thirst and passion I have for Pakistan cricket waned a little bit after that. To be brutally honest, I think Pakistan cricket is in a very disappointing place."

Under Arthur's coaching, Pakistan won their last ICC title in the 2017 Champions Trophy. However, everything went downhill from thereon. He returned as the team director ahead of last year's ODI WC but the Men in Green continued to disappoint. Even after the World Cup, there have been wholesome changes in Pakistan cricket's setup. It will be interesting to see how Pakistan cricket goes ahead. But for now, they are completely struggling across formats.

Pakistan bowled New Zealand out for 92 in the fifth and final T20I of the series in Christchurch on Sunday (Jan 21) for a consolation win in 4-1 series loss. Chasing a modest 135, NZ batters found it hard to face Player of the Match Iftikhar Ahmed's spin and were all out 42 runs short of the target. Ahmed finished with the figures of 3/24 in four overs while fellow spinner Mohammad Nawaz took 2/18 in four overs.

Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan were rocked early as Tim Southee took the wicket of Haseebullah Khan in the first over itself. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then added 53 runs for the second wicket before Ish Sodhi sent back Azam for 13. For New Zealand, only two batters crossed the 20-run mark while a total four players got in double digits as the Kiwis found themselves tangled in the Pak spin web. Player of the series Finn Allen could also manage only 22 runs while Glenn Phillips scored 26.

Speaking after the match, New Zealand skipper Mitch Santner acknowledged that they were out outplayed while chasing a moderate target.

"The pitch slowed down a lot and we were pretty happy with the score. We just got outplayed in the second innings. The power play was very important on a slow wicket. We talk about trying to take it deep but it's good learning," said Santner at the post-match presentation.

Pak skipper Shaheen Afridi also praised Iftikhar Ahmed and said: "Ifti (Iftikhar) is a very experienced player and he's always ready for the bowling but we wanted to give everyone a proper chance so we were planning to give chances to youngsters this series, we sorted out 16-20 players (for the World Cup)."

Pakistan T20I skipper Shaheen Afridi has praised former skipper and batter Babar Azam for keeping the team hunt in all three T20Is despite the Men in Green ending up on the losing side. Babar scored a fifty in all three T20Is of the five-match series but couldn't get support at the other end. As a result, Pakistan now trail 0-3 in the series with two more T20Is to be played.

"I had also said earlier that Babar was not out of form. We cannot judge him based on a few innings. He has played three fine innings in three matches in the series. He could not finish the matches in our favour. He needed someone at the other end to take the innings deeper. If there was another batter at the other end with Babar, we could have finished the game in our favour," said Afridi in the post-match press conference after the loss in third T20I in Dunedin.

In the third T20I on Wednesday (January 17), Babar scored 58 in a chase of 225 but the team lost by 45 runs, managing just 179/7 in 20 overs. No other Pakistan batter has been able to score a single fifty in all three games apart from Babar except Fakhar Zaman (50) in the second T20I.

Overall, Babar has 181 runs in the series so far - behind only New Zealand opener Finn Allen who has 245 runs in as many games. Allen, who scored 34 in the first T20I, went on to hit 74 in the second match before scoring a blistering 137 in the third match on January 17.

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc is surprised at the lower pace of the touring Pakistan team. Notably, pace has been the characteristic of the Pak bowling line-up over the years but this time around it hasn't been there for the Asian bowlers.&nbsp;

"I think everyone was slightly surprised at the lower pace of the Pakistan bowlers, when you're generally used to some guys getting in the 150s [kph]," Starc said two days before the Boxing Day Test while speaking to media at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The pacer although agreed that pace isn't 'be all and end all' but acknowledged that it 'certainly plays a part and can help.'

Pakistan, which lost the first Test by 360 runs, had played Shaheen Afridi, Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad as Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf were not available. While Naseem is in rehab after injury sustained during the Asia Cup earlier this year, Rauf made himself unavailable to play in Australia's domestic T20 tournament Big Bash League (BBL).

Their replacements, Jamal and Shahzad were good but the quickest as they constantly hit the speeds till late 130s only.

Starc, meanwhile, also acknowledged that the extra pace wouldn't be quite as crucial at the MCG. "Case in point, you look at Scotty Boland who can bowl good wheels, but he's not at your top end of pace bowlers," he said. "But he generates a lot of sideways movement here in Melbourne, obviously being his home ground. He's done it for a long time and we saw that obviously against England, where every ball he bowled could have been a wicket. So I don't think that pace is the be all and end all. Certainly, for our attack we all complement each other really well by doing things very differently."

Pakistan are currently trailing 0-1 in the three Test series with the third Test scheduled to be played from January 3 after the Boxing Day Test.

Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq has come under the scanner for his controversial comments during a recent press event. In a video clip of the event that has gone viral on social media, Razzaq can be heard mentioning popular Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's name in a distasteful manner.&nbsp;

While Razzaq espoused his repugnant statements, former teammates Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi sitting beside him on the stage were seen clapping and applauding.

After Pakistan made an early exit from the World Cup in India, Razzaq pointed fingers at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but in doing so, gave a bizarre example that has brought him flak from all quarters.&nbsp;

“Younis Khan had good intentions as a captain and it gave me confidence to perform better. Everyone over here is talking about the intention and Pakistan’s team. Actually, we don’t have good intentions to develop and polish players in Pakistan. If you think that by marrying Aishwarya Rai, a good and pious kid would be born, it would never happen," Razzaq said.&nbsp;

<h2>Fans criticise Razzaq</h2>

After his statement went viral, cricket fans from both countries slammed Razzaq for his highly misogynistic comments.&nbsp;

“What Abdul Razzaq said about Aishwarya Rai was the lowest a man can stoop. What’s more shocking is that a guy like Shahid Afridi is sitting there and endorsing that. I condemn this," said one user, while another commented, "Abdul Razzaq, You have stooped very low. speak according to your level. You don’t need to say anything about Aishwarya Rai."

In a video clip of the event that has gone viral on social media, Razzaq can be heard mentioning popular Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's name in a distasteful manner. While Razzaq espoused his repugnant statements, former teammates Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi sitting beside him on the stage were seen clapping and applauding. After Pakistan made an early exit from the World Cup in India, Razzaq pointed fingers at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but in doing so, gave a bizarre example that has brought him flak from all quarters. “Younis Khan had good intentions as a captain and it gave me confidence to perform better. Everyone over here is talking about the intention and Pakistan’s team. Actually, we don’t have good intentions to develop and polish players in Pakistan. If you think that by marrying Aishwarya Rai, a good and pious kid would be born, it would never happen," Razzaq said. Shameful example given by Abdul Razzaq. #AbdulRazzaq #CWC23 pic.twitter.com/AOboOVHoQU — Shaharyar Ejaz 🏏 (@SharyOfficial) November 13, 2023 × Fans criticise Razzaq After his statement went viral, cricket fans from both countries slammed Razzaq for his highly misogynistic comments. You don’t need to say anything about Aishwarya Rai." While doubts remain around Babar Azam's captaincy future, it has come to light that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering sacking its entire group of support staff members, according to Samaa TV.

While doubts remain around Babar Azam's captaincy future, it has come to light that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering sacking its entire group of support staff members, according to Samaa TV. The likes of head coach Grant Bradburn, team director Mickey Arthur and batting coach Andrew Puttick could be given the sack as PCB attempts to rejig the order after a dismal World Cup campaign in India. PCB is expected to conduct a thorough review of Pakistan's poor show in the marquee tournament where the team failed to reach the knockouts after all the hype. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf is set to conduct an emergency meeting with former captain Younis Khan to announce the changes in the setup. Arthur was hired as the team director by former PCH chief Najam Sethi and fulfilled his duty for the initial few months remotely through an online medium which brought a lot of flak. Arthur did his reputation no favours when he came up with a flurry of amusing excuses to shield Pakistan's failure. One of Arthur's excuses was that the stadium DJ did not play 'Dil Dil Pakistan' which affected the morale of the players. As for Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick, they have been tied down with lengthier contracts, running until May 2025. Any decision of sacking by the PCB would mean a hefty severance package for the two. Morne Morkel resigns The development comes hot on the heels of Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel resigning from his position as the bowling outfit floundered big time in the World Cup. The former South African speedster had joined the Pakistan backroom staff on a six-month contract in June this year, with an eye to go the distance in the World Cup. His first assignment with the Pakistan team was the tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series. The team emerged victorious in the island nation but it all went south from there. The Pakistan team could not qualify for the finals of the Asia Cup, losing to arch-rivals India in a humiliating manner before repeating the cycle yet again in the World Cup. Also read | World Cup 2023: Morne Morkel quits as Pakistan bowling coach after WC debacle Apart from poor bowling and batting performances, fingers are being raised at Babar Azam for his directionless captaincy. Pakistan as a unit looked miles behind the pace when compared to other teams. The subcontinent team was found guilty of playing an archaic brand of cricket in ODIs which boils down to the personality of the captain. During the World Cup, the PCB chief had met Sarfaraz Khan, fanning rumours that the former captain was being prepared to take over the reins once again from Babar. (With inputs from agencies)

Pakistan Cricket Board mulls sacking foreign coaches after World Cup debacle: Report

Pakistan's World Cup 2023 campaign almost came to an end after England won the toss and elected to bat first in both teams' last league match on November 11 in Kolkata. Pakistan needed to restrict England for 50 and chase it down in about 2.4 overs if bowling first, which they did, but England raced away to 96 in first 16 overs.

Pakistan have no one but themselves to blame as they lost four games on the trot in the tournament and New Zealand won their last league game by a huge margin to virtually shut the door on Pakistan's semifinal hopes. Talking ahead of their game against England, two former Pakistan skippers - Shoaib Malik and Wasim Akram conceded that Afghanistan played better than Pakistan.

“Afghanistan played better cricket than us,” Malik said.

“India is the only team from the sub-continent, who has qualified for the last four. In my opinion, if we are just sticking with this World Cup then yes Afghanistan have played better cricket than us,” Malik added.

Akram, who was part of Pakistan's 1992 World Cup-winning campaign, also agreed with Malik.

“Afghans looked stronger. Maybe, our boys looked fatigued because they were playing cricket continuously. Afghanistan cricketers looked better than Pakistan, there is no doubt,” said Akram.

Pakistan were four and four after eight games. They had started the tournament well with wins over Netherland and Sri Lanka before losing four games on the trot against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. Pakistan then won the two back to back games against Bangladesh and New Zealand to give themselves a shot at the semifinals.

Pakistan had a NRR of +0.036 after eight games and had to beat England to get a NRR of +0.744 or better with 10 points. Batting first, Pakistan would have needed a win margin of 287 runs.

ODI World Cup 2023: 'Afghanistan played better,' former skippers lament poor show by Pakistan

Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman scored a sublime ton on November 4 in Bengaluru, helping his team beat New Zealand by 21 runs in the rain-hit ODI World Cup 2023 match. With the win, Pakistan are still in contention of making it to the semifinals, all thanks to Zaman's belligerent 126 not out off 81 balls.

Pakistan were 200/1 in 25.3 overs when the game was called off by the umpire and Zaman said that they had planned for the rain interruption.

"The wicket was very good, there was no turn, nothing," Fakhar said after the match. "Rain was at the back of our mind. We knew [of the forecast] from yesterday. That's why after 15 overs, we [Babar and himself] sent a message upstairs to the management to give us the target for 20 overs."

The match was first stopped after 21.3 overs in chase of 402 and Pakistan were 160/1 at that point - 10 runs ahead of the DLS target. With the game resuming after a delay, the Men in Green were given a target of 342 runs in 41 overs and Pakistan did not let up and scored 40 more runs in the four overs they got before the final stoppage.

"We wanted to try and make it up [in those five overs]. At this level, planning is important. It's difficult otherwise. We had planned for this. So when we got 10 runs ahead, close to the 20th over, we played out [Trent] Boult because we knew we were well ahead," said Zaman about the batting approach in the game.

The Pak opener didn't play the first few matches of the tournament but has been instrumental ever since he was given a chance. His chances of playing in the World Cup were low but the batter persevered and the results are here to see.

"Every player who performs says 'I did this, I did that'. But when I had the time off [after the Asia Cup], I didn't rest," Fakhar said. "I was at home for just two days and then I went straight to Peshawar to train. I want to dedicate this performance to Aftab Khan (Pakistan fielding coach."

Pakistan next play England on November 11 in their last league of the quadrennial tournament.

Ahead of Pakistan's must-win ODI World Cup clash versus New Zealand, set for Saturday (Nov 4), the team's Director of Cricket Mickey Arthur feels Pakistani players not playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a disadvantage. Arthur&nbsp;said, while speaking to the media&nbsp;in the pre-match press conference in Bengaluru,&nbsp;that Pakistan have had to adapt to new conditions rapidly in the ongoing World Cup in India.

Asked whether&nbsp;Pakistan players not featuring in the IPL -- since 2009 due to both the nations' strained political relations -- has been a disadvantage, Arthur was quick to agree but said he is not&nbsp;making&nbsp;any excuses.

"No excuse, but it has been. And the interesting thing has been that every ground we've been to has been a new venue for our players, which is exciting. The players have really embraced that and they've enjoyed that fact because they've watched IPL on TV and they've seen test matches at iconic grounds like Eden Gardens, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai. So, for them to play it, it's been really exciting for them," Arthur said.

Arthur further opined, "Of course, it is the first time they're playing there, so it has taken a little bit to get used to the conditions."

He also opened up on Babar Azam-led Men in Green's ordinary run in the World Cup, where they have won three and lost four games.

"Every game we go into, we want to win. And I'll be brutally honest, I don't think we've played to our full potential this tournament yet. I thought the Bangladesh game is the first game where we actually put a complete game together. We batted beautifully, bowled beautifully, and fielded beautifully, which in all the other games, we've done one or two disciplines OK, but our other disciplines let us down," the South African mentioned.

"So, I'd like to say we're peaking, but the preparation of the guys and the attitude of the guys' will to get better every day, that has been exceptional. So, I can't fault anybody in terms of that. But we found our best game against Bangladesh and I just hope that's not too late for us," Arthur&nbsp;added.

Pakistan need to win their remaining two games and also hope for other results to go in their favour if they are to enter the semi-finals.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf has been accused of 'flagrant misdoings and unconstitutional decisions' by Zulfiqar Malik, a member of his own management committee. Ashraf made the allegations in an email marked to the Prime Minister's Office and Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPL) ministry as well. The developments, including the content of email, were reported by ESPNCricinfo.

As per the email, Malik accused the PCB chief of the following irregularities and wrongdoings:

<ul>
	<li>Failing its legal, prescribed mandate, which was to manage only the board's daily affairs and not make long-term decisions</li>

	<li>Failing to provide his degree certificate, which is a prerequisite for becoming a PCB chairman</li>
	<li>Allowing his son Chaudhry Khan Mohammad to meddle informally in board matters</li>
	<li>Misusing the office of the PCB election commissioner to carry out political victimisation of opponents and running rigged elections in regions</li>
</ul>

As for reason of writing this email, Malik wrote: "I have noted some flagrant misdoings and unconstitutional decisions by management that I wish to bring on record."&nbsp;
