Before Pakistan locks horns with Team India in both sides' tournament-openers in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green will travel to Netherlands for three ODIs against the Dutch side.

Ahead of the tour, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a full-strength squad for the Netherlands ODIs. This hasn't been well received by former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria and he has slammed the team management. The tainted spinner feels Pakistan should 'show some courage' and give more chances to youngsters during such tours, taking a leaf from India.

In the recent past, India have rotated their senior players and given chances to a lot of young stars their recent trips to Ireland, West Indies and now Zimbabwe (to kick off from August 18 in the African nation). In addition, many young leaders such as Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah have been tested in captaincy role since the 2021 T20 World Cup.

"India are looking at the future. Unfortunately, Pakistan are not thinking on similar lines. There is no emphasis on creating a bench strength. They need to change their mentality and show some courage. On the Netherlands tour, they could have given young players some chances," Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

Kaneria further pointed out that he feels India are much better prepared for the forthcoming Asian championship, to kick off from August 27 in the subcontinent. In this regard, he opined, "Pakistan have played very few T20Is since last year’s World Cup. They played seven and won six. They played one big T20 game against Australia and lost that as well."

"In comparison, India have played 24 matches, winning 20 (19). India’s ratio is much higher and they have mostly played their B and C teams. As Rohit Sharma said, India is creating a bench strength," Kaneria added.

There are high chances of India and Pakistan meeting each other thrice in the Asia Cup (including the final) and are also placed in the same group in the 2022 T20 World Cup (to be held in Australia from October-November).

'Show some courage' - Danish Kaneria slams Pakistan, urges them to take a leaf from India

Babar Azam-led Pakistan were thrashed by Sri Lanka, by 246 runs, as the two-match Test series between the Asian giants ended in a 1-1 stalemate in the Island nation. Earlier, Babar & Co. had won the series opener by four wickets, in pursuit of 342.

After the Test series, many slammed the team selection of the Babar-led side as some former cricketers raised questions over all-rounder Shadab Khan's absence whereas Md Rizwan was also slammed, for being backed despite low scores since his hundred versus Australia, in the home Test series early this year. Since then, he has had scores of 1, 0, 19, 40, 24, and 37.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has now opened up on Rizwan's recent low scores. The ex all-rounder believes certain pressure needs to be on the keeper-batter after his poor performances with the bat. "You have to keep pressure. The more stronger the bench is, the more careful the player will be about his performance. Rizwan hasn't been performing, and I believe that on tours like this, Sarfaraz coud have been given an opportunity (who last played a Test three years ago, versus South Africa),” Afridi said on Samaa TV.

When asked by the anchor about how people include arguments over city biases (Sarfaraz hails from Karachi, Pakistan) as a reason for a player's selection in the national side, Afridi made a glaring remark.

'Behave like a human being' - Shahid Afridi on 'city biases' in Pakistan team selection

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in their challenging 342-run chase in the first Test at Galle International Stadium, Galle on Wednesday (July 22). The Babar Azam-led side had conceded a slender four-run lead to the Dimuth Karunaratne-led Islanders and had a stiff task to chase 342, however, they rode on vital knocks from Babar, Md Rizwan and opener Abdullah Shafique's 160 not out to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

After Pakistan's historic win, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has fired shots at some other teams by saying that he doesn't ever interfere in team selections even though it is his right. While he didn't mention any other team, sides such as South Africa, India, etc. are nowadays playing with different captains. India have had as many as six captains in 2022 with Shikhar Dhawan to join the list on Friday (July 22), in the ODI series opener versus hosts West Indies. On the other hand, SA are touring England with Keshav Maharaj leading in ODIs, David Miller in T20Is and Dean Elgar to captain the Test side.

"I know the strategies, I know our match-winners. But when you offer accountability and freedom to operate, the players can take the team further up with performances. You can't run cricket sitting on sidelines. It won't be a successful model. We have created a positive environment. Everyone knows I am a phone call away if there are any problems. As an ex-cricketer, I know the issues players might face, so it is important to create that sort of environment,” he added.

Pakistan's out-of-favour keeper-batter Kamran Akmal isn't one to shy away from expressing his opinions and recently lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not allowing opener Ahmed Shehzad's entry into the high-performance camp.

While Shehzad was in the news recently when he slammed Waqar Younis -- former Pakistan bowling coach -- for his omission from the national squad and and stated that he was not allowed to tell his side of the story, the elder of the Akmal brothers, i.e. Kamran also spoke about Shehzad not being allowed to enter the high-performance training camp on Youtube channel paktv.tv.

“They don't allow him in the high-performance training camp. They told him that players who are out of the side for the past 2 years are not allowed. This is the state (of cricket here). They are basically denying entry to players who have represented Pakistan in 100-150 matches. I don't know where we are going,” Akmal said.

In addition, the 40-year-old Akmal claimed that the process of sending an email to PCB to enter the high-performance camp should be solely for the U-19 players and not for the ones who have represented the senior men's team for a good amount of time. In this regard, he opined, "You've made high-performance camp for cricketers. At least make it available for them. Now, you have to send e-mail to team's office before entering. What's the logic behind this? Even if you are making such SOPs, do this for U19 players."

For the unversed, Kohli hasn't been in form for a long time. While his century-drought continues, with his last triple-figure knock coming in late 2019, the 33-year-old hasn't crossed the fifty-run mark for India across formats since February 18, 2022. One can argue that India haven't played a lot and Kohli has also been rested several times, however, he has looked a pale shadow of himself for quite some time. In IPL 2022, he struggled for his 341 runs, at a strike-rate of 115.98, with only two fifties whereas in the ongoing England tour, he has so far had scores of 11, 20, 1, 11, and 16, respectively.

Thus, Babar -- who has been in terrific form in all formats of late -- extended support to Kohli, winning hearts on social media. The two will come against one another in the forthcoming India-Pakistan clash in Asia Cup, in Sri Lanka, and also in this year's T20 World Cup where the Asian neighbours will kick off their respective campaigns against each other, in October 24 at MCG, Melbourne.

'This too shall pass' - Babar Azam wins hearts with his tweet for Virat Kohli, backs him to end lean patch

Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are two of the biggest batters in modern-day cricket. While there's no doubting that Kohli's form has gone down considerably in the last few years, Babar has been making heads turn with his consistency across formats.

If overall numbers are compared, Babar is way behind Kohli due to the lesser number of years in international cricket. At present, Babar has 9,979 runs whereas Kohli's tally is 23,693 with 70 hundreds overall. Meanwhile, Babar has 24 centuries under his belt. However, the 27-year-old Pakistan captain is miles ahead of Kohli in terms of current form. Thus, Pakistan's opening batter Imam-ul-Haq made a glaring remark while comparing Kohli and Babar. The southpaw was quick to point out that Kohli is a legend, however, he wants his best friend and captain to end with 3,000-4,000 more runs than the Indian star batter after the end of his international career.

“Virat Kohli is a legend and there’s no doubt about that. If someone has played 240 plus matches and someone 80, then you can’t compare them. If you compare their careers right now, then Babar is way ahead, but as my best friend and captain of Pakistan, I want him to break plenty of Kohli’s records," pointed out the dashing opener during an interview on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha

All eyes are on the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022. The upcoming mega event will be held in Sri Lanka despite the political and economical unrest in the country. Amid the chaos in the Island nation, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) got the green light to host the tournament and it will be played in the T20I format.

This will be the second time that the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format, as a preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Moreover, this will also be the first time that the Asia Cup will take place after the 2018 edition. In 2018, Rohit Sharma-led India won the tournament, beating Bangladesh in a humdinger of a final, and the Men in Blue will be eager to win the trophy for the third time in a row (which will be seventh overall). Ahead of the official schedule is released, which is expected to be out very soon, many reports have suggested that India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.

Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma-led India to square off against Pakistan on August 28 - Reports

Among the cricket fans, all eyes are on the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022, which will be held in Sri Lanka, followed by the T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia in October-November. The two big marquee events will also give fans plenty to cheer for as India and Pakistan will square off against each other in both the tournaments.

Last year, the senior men's teams locked horns against each other in the T20 World Cup (T20 WC), held in the UAE. Contrary to expectations, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green demolished India by ten wickets to achieve their maiden win over their Asian neighbours in any World Cup (ODIs or T20Is). Thus, this time around, fans will see more of both sides against each other in the Asia Cup as well as the eighth edition of the T20 WC. Ahead of the rivalry getting resumed on the 22-yard cricket strip, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has made a big statement claiming that Babar & Co. are a better side than Rohit Sharma-led India.

"India is no doubt a good team, but there’s no example of the way Pakistan is currently playing cricket," the former Pakistan cricketer was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. "Pakistan has players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan who are currently named as the best players by the ICC," he opined.

Further, the ex-Pakistan captain and keeper feels it will be India vs Pakistan in the Asia Cup, to be held in the Island nation in August-September, in the T20I format. "I am hopeful for Pakistan to win the Asia Cup in 2022. The victory against India in the recent T20 World Cup 2021 has increased hopes for Pakistan," Latif stated. "No doubt other teams are also competitive, but the main competition in Asia Cup 2022 will be between India and Pakistan," Latif mentioned.

On Wednesday (June 22), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced an 18-member squad for Pakistan's forthcoming two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka, which will get underway on July 16 in Galle. The squad sees the return of former captain and wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed whereas veteran spinner Yasir Shah has also regained his spot, after missing out on the home Test series versus Australia early this year.

Yasir was last seen in action for Pakistan against West Indies, held last year, but wasn't prefered for the home Tests against Pat Cummins-led Aussies. He reclaimed his place, leading to Sajid Khan's omission. After the team was announced, former spinner Danish Kaneria slammed PCB and came down heavily on the selection. He didn't approve of Sarfaraz's return and also feels that Sajid should have retained his spot after playing all Tests versus the Baggy Greens.

"I don't understand on what basis the selectors have picked the team. It seems like the selectors will never improve and think about players while picking a team. I don't know how Ramiz (Raja) approved this team. Some changes were needed after Australia defeated Pakistan in their own backyard. Off-spinner Sajid Khan played all the Test matches against Australia, but Pakistan didn't give a chance to Yasir Shah, who would have gotten exposed against the Aussie batters. Sajid has been unfairly treated. They also removed Usman Qadir and didn't play him against Australia either. Zahid Mahmood was also omitted without any reason. I'm not sure whether Babar (Azam) or (Mohammad) Wasim are picking the team or doing favours for friends," Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

"Sarfaraz has also been included in the Test set-up. He won't be getting into the eleven because of Mohammad Rizwan. Instead of Sarfaraz, a young player could have been a part of the side. They also put Haris Rauf in the Test squad, but Shahnawaz Dahani can be a better bowler in the longer format. Rauf should have been kept for the T20 format."

"Pakistan need to make a team for the future, but it seems like the current selection committee is doing favours. One who offers gifts and keeps selectors happy gets into the team. Hardworking and honest players are being treated unfairly," Kaneria added.

Babar-led Pakistan will play two Tests in the Island nation, next month, in Galle and Colombo, respectively. They are ranked fifth in the points table of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship, a spot below Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka.

The deadly Covid-19 virus has affected several star athletes since its advent in early 2000. Former Pakistan skipper Zaheer Abbas is the latest to have contracted the infection. The legendary cricketer has been admitted to the ICU in Saint Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, in the city of Westminster in London, after being Covid-19 positive a few days back.

As per a report on Pakistan news Channel Goe News, Abbas was on oxygen support and after a couple of days, the situation continued to go downhill as the former opener has been shifted to a private hospital.

According to reports, Abbas contracted COVID-19 positive when he was enroute to England from Dubai. He firstly complained of kidney pain and was then diagnosed with pneumonia after arriving in London.

“He is currently on dialysis and the doctors have advised him to refrain from meeting people," the sources said as per quoted by Geo News.

For the unversed, the ex-Pakistani cricketer Abbas is on dialysis and is feeling weak so meeting him has been strictly prohibited, opined the source.

Babar Azam has been in sensational form of late. The Pakistan captain has been on a run-scoring spree in all forms of the game. The 27-year-old has been backed by many former cricketers to be included in the Fab Four, with Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson struggling for form (barring Joe Root who is in red-hot form) whereas some feel it should ideally be expanded and renamed Fab Five, including the Pakistani.

While Babar's form has been unreal, recently he became the first-ever batsman to register nine fifty-plus scores across formats, his next-door neighbour Kohli has struggled to be at his best. The 33-year-old has still scored runs in the white-ball formats, he has failed to convert them into daddy hundreds whereas he averaged only above 25 in Tests last year. Overall, Babar has been scoring hundreds for fun whereas Kohli hasn't scored a hundred in any format, at any level, since November 2019.

Thus, former West Indies pacer-turned-commentator Ian Bishop lauded Babar and stated that the Pakistani has 'almost overtaken' Kohli, especially in ODIs, and is on the cusp of greatness going ahead.

"I want to be clear when I say 'on the road to...', in the white-ball cricket at least, and certainly in fifty overs. I don't use the term ‘great’ loosely. It has to be a bigger sample size to bestow greatness on a player, but his average, as we speak now, (is) on the cusp on 60 with 17 ODI hundreds. He has almost overtaken his next-door neighbour, the great Virat Kohli, in terms of the ultimate fifty-over batsman,” Bishop said during a conversation with cricwick.com.

“His Test cricket is a work in progress. I'm surprised he hasn't taken to Test cricket numbers a lot earlier. He's starting to get better at it. Technically, he's superb. In future, I'm hoping he will be mentioned in the same breath in Test cricket as the top 3-4 players,” Bishop added.

Babar has also been on a winning spree as Pakistan's captain, especially in the 50-over format in recent times. After Pakistan lost the home Tests versus Australia, 1-0, they beat the five-time World Cup winners 2-1 in three ODIs in their own backyard and whitewashed West Indies in an equal number of ODIs, in Multan, which concluded on June 12.

Meanwhile, the wait for Kohli's 71st international hundred continues. He will next be seen in action for Team India during their rescheduled fifth and final Test versus England, in Edgbaston, on July 01.

The IPL media rights auction was a huge hit as many had their eyes glued on how the proceedings would eventually end. After a three-day auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) laughed its way to the bank by earning a staggering INR 48,390.52 crore from the media rights auction for IPL 2023-27, i.e. more than two and a half times the amount it earned for the previous cycle in 2018.

Thus, IPL continues to grow worldwide and is now also the second most lucrative sports league across the globe, only behind National Football League (NFL). After the auction, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was elated with IPL's rising demand and revealed that from the next season, the cash-rich league's window will expand further, i.e. for a two-and-a-half-month period.

"From the next FTP cycle, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC," Shah had said in an interview with PTI. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) isn't happy with this development.

Reacting to Shah's revelation, PCB is now eyeing the ICC board meeting at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to discuss the topic in length.

"The ICC board meeting will be held during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July and this matter will probably be discussed there," a PCB source said, as per PTI. "Mr Jay Shah has said the BCCI is committed to international bilateral cricket but with so many leagues cropping up and the IPL planning expansion this has to be discussed among the cricket boards," the PCB official further added.

After the auction, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was elated with IPL's rising demand and revealed that from the next season, the cash-rich league's window will expand further, i.e. for a two-and-a-half-month period. Out-of-favour middle-order batter Umar Akmal has lashed out at former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur and ex-bowling coach Waqar Younis, accusing them of spoiling his career. Akmal has not played international cricket for more than two years and has been out of the side following his two successive golden ducks in the home T20Is versus Sri Lanka in late 2019.

In a recent interview with Cricket Pakistan, the 32-year-old Umar slammed former coach Mickey Arthur. The equation between the two has never been ideal and, hence, the right-hander revealed, "Mickey Arthur had personal issues with me but the team management at that time did not raise a voice for me and they have been silent till today. However, Mickey Arthur later did admit that he used harsh words on me. I am among those rare cricketers of Pakistan who have been ignored at every turn,” said the now-ousted middle-order batter.

However, the South African coach didn't take the criticism kindly. Taking cognisance of Umar's statement posted by Pakistani journalist Aalia Rasheed on Twitter, Arthur retweeted and wrote, "Take a look in the mirror Umar!!"

In addition, Akmal criticised Pakistan legend and former bowling coach Waqar Younis, claiming that he refused to promote him up the order in the Pakistani batting line-up, despite receiving advice from former Prime Minister Imran Khan. In this regard, he pointed out, "I asked Imran Khan to recommend team management to send me at number three. Imran Khan himself asked Waqar Younis why I was not a part of the top-order. Waqar Younis was a legendary fast bowler but I could not understand him as a head coach."

It will be interesting to see if Waqar also replies to Umar's claims. For the unversed, the latter announced his arrival in international cricket in style by becoming only the second Pakistani batter to slam a hundred on debut away from home. He further also registered his maiden ODI ton in his third appearance and was known for his power-hitting. Nonetheless, attitude and fitness issues derailed his progress and it now seems unlikely that he will make a return to the highest level.

Babar Azam has been on a rampage. The Pakistan captain has been in splendid form across formats. In the three-match ODI series opener between Pakistan and West Indies, the 27-year-old Babar scored his 17th ton to become the first batsman to have done the unthinkable, of having pulled off a special feat of scoring three centuries on the trot twice.

On Friday (June 10), Babar shattered a world record during the second and penultimate ODI versus the Men in Maroon after slamming an impressive 77 in Pakistan's easy win. By virtue of his knock, Babar created history for slamming nine consecutive fifty-plus scores in international cricket (across all formats). No batsman has managed to do this before. Mithali Raj, former India women's captain, was the first-ever cricketer, overall, to achieve the feat in 2016-17.

Babar's dream run started when he scored a memorable 196 in Pakistan-Australia second Test, at Karachi. From thereon, he continued his good form and returned with 66 and 55 in the final Test. In the three ODIs and one-off T20I, that followed suit versus the Aussies, Babar registered scores of 57, 114, 105* and 66. In the first ODI versus the Windies, he ended with a match-winning 103 and his latest knock has helped him create history.

After Pakistan beat Nicholas Pooran-led Windies by 120 runs in the second ODI, in defence of 275/8, Babar said at the post-match presentation, "The wicket was double-paced early on. We wanted to build a partnership as we knew it'd be tough for new batters. Unfortunately, there was a run-out. Because of me we were 10-15 runs short. We saved him (Khushdil) for the end, because we all know what he can do in the slog overs. I was confident that our spinners would bowl well. Nawaz was outstanding, he picked wickets at crucial moments."

PAK vs WI: Babar Azam shatters World Record, 1st batsman to score 9 consecutive 50+ scores in int'l cricket

MS Dhoni-led India created history by becoming the first-ever host nation to win a 50-over World Cup during the 2011 edition in the subcontinent. Dhoni & Co. were favourites ahead of the tournament and beat teams like Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and many others to end with the elusive trophy and break their 28-year-long title drought.

During the second semi-finals, hosts India faced Shahid Afridi-led Pakistan, who came into the game without Shoaib Akhtar. Despite being in the squad, the Rawalpindi Express wasn't named in the playing XI and was declared "unfit" by the team management. Recently, Akhtar recalled the semi-final, held in Mohali, and stated it was "unfair" from the team management to drop him. He further added that had he played, he would've dismissed Indian openers Sachin Tendulkar (who was the Player-of-the-Match for his chancy 85) and Virender Sehwag (who gave the team a flying start).

“Mohali memory haunts me...that 2011 World Cup semi-final. They should have played me, they should have. It was completely unfair from the team management. I knew that I had just two matches left and I had this desire that at Wankhede the Pakistan flag is held high and the team is plays the final. I knew that India was under immense pressure. The entire nation and the media were looking up to the team which means we were the underdogs. So I believed that we shouldn't have taken the pressure,” Akhtar said in an interaction with Sportskeeda.

And I did break a few things in the dressing room because I was so sad, disappointed and furious and so was the entire nation. On Wednesday (June 08), Pakistan captain Babar Azam continued to be among runs as the Men in Green locked horns with Nicholas Pooran's West Indies in the series opener of the three ODIs, in Multan. Chasing 306, Babar-led hosts went past the finish line courtesy of their captain who scripted a brilliant record with his century against the Windies.

Scoring his 17th ton in the shortest format, Babar scripted history as he became the first batter to score three consecutive hundreds on two separate occasions in ODIs. For the unversed, his earlier three consectuive centuries had come against West Indies in 2016, when he made 120, 123, and 117.

In addition, the 27-year-old Babar surpassed the long-standing record of Virat Kohli, former Indian skipper, to become the quickest to score 1,000 runs as an ODI captain. He got to the milestone in his 13th innings; four innings less than Kohli (who achieved the same in 17 outings).

In reply, Pakistan chased down the total with five wickets, and four balls, to spare. Apart from Babar, Md Rizwan scored a fifty whereas Khushdil Shah's entertaining 23-ball 41* ensured no further hiccups for the hosts in the final few overs.

At the post-match presentation, Babar said, "I always try to continue my game and work on my strengths. There was a little bit of a problem during the calling when I was batting with Imam. But it got better as the partnership moved on. The wicket was a little double-paced and wasn't that easy. There was heat but that is not an excuse. Credit to the bowlers. Shadab came back and did well. The standards he sets on the field is brilliant as well. Cricket is changing. We have to plan and play with a lot of intensity. Outstanding finish from Khushdil. You have to take it deep so that there is less pressure on the finishers."

Babar Azam has been in sublime form in all forms of the game. In terms of ICC rankings for batters, the Pakistani captain is the No. 1 batsman in white-ball formats whereas he finds himself in the top five (5th spot) in Tests.

With him being consistent across formats of late for Men in Green, India's veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik recently lavished huge praise on Babar and stated that he has the potential to become the top-ranked batter in all forms of the game.

"One-hundred per cent (Babar is capable of achieving that)," Karthik had said on The ICC Review. "He is a high-quality player who is at the peak of his batting prowess and he has got some Test matches coming up. He has been phenomenal in all three formats of the game and he has done well in different batting positions too. I wish him all the best and think he has the potential. Pakistan's former captain Salman Butt has landed himself in a new role after being roped in by the Singapore Cricket Association as a consulting head coach for the national side for the 2022 season.

Butt is a former Pakistan skipper, who represented the Men in Green in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is, ending with 11 tons. His career was cut short following his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal in 2010, which led to him being suspended for five years. Shoaib Akhtar remains a huge name in world cricket. Akhtar ended his illustrious international career with a total of 444 scalps. He was known for his ferocious pace, bounce and ability to rattle the batter's mind even before bowling to him.

During the 2003 ODI World Cup, the former Pakistan speedster Akhtar -- also known as the Rawalpindi Express -- had made heads turn by bowling the fastest delivery in cricketing history; bowling at a mammoth 161.3 kph (100.23 mph) in a group stage match versus England at Cape Town. Recently, the legendary pacer revealed how he clocked the 160kph mark at the international level.

“When you touch 155 kph as a bowler, remember that you have another 5 kph inside you. However, adding that extra pace to your bowling requires specific training. Before I broke the 100 miles record, I was bowling at speeds of 157-158 kph but I was not able to reach 160. I was a bit baffled over the same, wondering why it was not happening,” Akhtar said while talking to Sportskeeda.

“I began by running with tires but soon realised that they are light. Next, I started pulling small vehicles with my shoulders. There is less public in Islamabad, so I used to pull vehicles in the night. I used to match its speed with the pace of my run-up. I realised that the vehicle is also small, so I started pulling a truck. I used to pull a truck for around 8 km," Akhtar added.

Akhtar remains an inspiration for many bidding pacers across the globe. Many have imitated his action as well in the past. However, it would take them a whole lot of effort to come anywhere near Akhtar's illustrious feat, i.e. of bowling the fastest delivery in international cricket.

Danish Kaneria's feud with former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi continues to make the headlines. It all started with Kaneria's claims where he revealed that Afridi never wanted him to be part of the Pakistan cricket team, during his playing days, and didn't favour him on religious grounds.

"Shoaib Akhtar was the first person to talk about my problem in public. Hats off to him for saying it (how I was mistreated in the team because of being a Hindu). However, he was later pressured by several authorities. He then stopped talking about it. But yes, it did happen to me. I was always degraded by Shahid Afridi. We used to play together for the same department, he used to keep me on the bench and didn't let me play the one-day tournament," Kaneria had told IANS during a recent conversation.

To this, Afridi joined in and slammed the tainted Pakistani spinner with some hard-hitting remarks. "And the person saying all this, look at his own character. He is accusing me to get cheap fame and make money. Kaneria was like my younger brother and I played with him in the department for many years," Afridi was quoted as saying by the news.com.pk.

On Monday morning (May 09), Kaneria fired shots once again at Afridi. Replying to Afridi's comments where he mentioned India as an enemy country, Kaneria schooled the ex all-rounder and wrote, "India is not our enemy. Our enemies are those who instigate people in the name of religion. If you consider India as your enemy, then don't ever go to any Indian media channel."

He soon tweeted saying, "When I raised my voice against forced conversion, I was threatened that my career would be destroyed."

While the war of words between Pakistani cricketers isn't new in world cricket, Kaneria and Afridi's feud is taking a turn for the worse with each passing day. Given that Kaneria -- who remains Pakistan's leading wicket-taker in Tests among spinners -- runs his own Youtube channel, he might drop some more big statements with regard to the whole controversy.

Meanwhile, Afridi is also expected to hit back at his former teammate.

'India not our enemy country' - Danish Kaneria slams Shahid Afridi, makes explosive remark on Twitter

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria had made heads turn when he claimed that ex all-rounder and Men in Green captain Shahid Afridi didn't want him in the national team and even conspired against him on religious grounds.

Backing his case, Kaneria -- who remains Pakistan's leading wicket-taker among spinners in Test cricket -- had revealed that the matter was first raised by Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar. "Shoaib Akhtar was the first person to talk about my problem in public. Hats off to him for saying it (how I was mistreated in the team because of being a Hindu). The former all-rounder added, "Everyone knows about his character. If my attitude was bad then why he did not complain to the Pakistan Cricket Board or the department he was playing for. He is giving interviews to our enemy country which can incite religious sentiments."

Kaneria, who was involved in the spot-fixing controversy while playing the English County in 2009, ended his international career claiming 261 wickets in 61 Tests whereas he also accounted for 15 ODI scalps in 18 games. Afridi, on the other hand, had an illustrious career where he represented Pakistan from 1996-2017. He ended with 1,716, 8,064 and 1,416 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively. In addition, he returned with 48 Test, 395 ODI and 98 T20I scalps.

It will be interesting to see if Kaneria further reacts to Afridi's statements. He's giving interviews to our enemy country which can incite religious sentiments: Afridi on Kaneria's claims

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Sami has claimed that he had bowled two deliveries over the 160 kmph mark but they were not recorded.

In a recent interview, Sami said that there were two occasions when his balls clocked 162 kmph and 164 kmph but as they were not recorded, the current record belongs to compatriot Shoaib Akhtar who achieved it against New Zealand in 2002.

"I bowled two balls at more than 160kmph in a match, one was 162 and the other was 164. After that, it was said that the bowling machine (speed gun) was not working. So, the balls were not counted," Sami told Paktv.tv.

According to an IANS report, Sami’s personal best is 156.4 kmph during against Zimbabwe in 2003.

Sami explained that bowlers who have breached the 160 kmph were able to do it a couple of times in their career and as a result, they cannot be expected to replicate that kind of pace more often.

"Even if you look at bowling history overall, the bowlers who have crossed the 160 kph-limited have done it only once or twice. It`s not like they kept doing it continuously" he said in the interview.

Jasprit Bumrah is currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition. While he was been economical for the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 15th season, he has managed to pick only five wickets from eight games so far.

On the other hand, Shaheen Shah Afridi's rise has been spectacular in recent times. He accounted for a total of 17 wickets across formats during Pakistan's home series versus Australia recently. While Bumrah was also among wickets in India-Sri Lanka Tests, in the run-up to IPL 2022, Shaheen has made heads turn in recent times whereas Bumrah is being played by caution in the ongoing IPL season. Thus, former Pakistani cricketer Aqib Javed made a bold claim on Bumrah-Shaheen. He also added that Men in Green speedster Haris Rauf has a more aggressive body language than the Indian pacer.

India and Pakistan haven't played a bilateral series since early 2013. Due to the political tension between the neighbouring countries, both sides continue to meet each other only in multi-nation or ICC events. During last year's T20 World Cup, in the UAE, the two Asian giants squared off against each other in the Super 12 round, which was a sellout in no time.

Thus, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja remains hopeful of a fruitful talk with the Sourav Ganguly-led Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to convince their counterpart for a bilateral series in 2024-25. For the unversed, PCB will hold talks with the BCCI in Dubai, from April 7-10, and is expecting a favourable response from the latter, keeping politics aside.

In a recent interview, Ramiz had mentioned that since the BCCI is being led by a cricketer, he has his hopes pinned on not leaving fans deprived of India-Pakistan bilateral series.

"India-Pakistan (2022 T20 World Cup) tickets were sold in one day, we don't have a political perspective on things and if a fellow cricketer is leading the BCCI, we should be approachable to each other since we don't know politics," said Ramiz.

"I'll talk to Ganguly regarding a four-nation tournament. The future of cricket is in triangular and four-nation competitions. Twenty20 leagues are taking away eyeballs from bilateral cricket, of which the novelty factor is decreasing," he further added.

Pakistan were in a strong position on Day 3 of the ongoing third and final Test versus Australia at the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore on Wednesday (March 23). After resuming the day's play at 90-1, in reply to Australia's first-innings score of 391, Azhar Ali and Abdullah Shafique's fifties took the hosts to a commanding position, at 214-2.

While Pakistan did concede a bit of momentum to be reduced to 264-5, they still had skipper Babar Azam in the middle and would've fancied getting close to Aussies' 391. Nonetheless, what followed was complete mayhem for the home side as they went from 264-5 to 268 all-out. Pat Cummins' 5 for 56 and Mitchell Starc's 4 for 33 led to Aussies' 123-run lead as the visitors are now in the driver's seat to clinch the series.

The second and penultimate Test between Pakistan and Australia, in Karachi, went down to the wire as the Babar Azam-led hosts made a match out of it when play resumed on Day Five, with the score being 192 for 2 in pursuit of a daunting 506-run target. Riding on skipper Babar's impressive and gritty 196 and Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out, Pakistan managed to give a scare to Pat Cummins-led Aussies before settling for a draw at 443-7.

After Babar's recent heroics, he has won hearts once again worldwide as his stature continues to rise with each passing day. Thus, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal lavished huge praise on Babar and has placed him on the same level as Virat Kohli. Following his 196 versus Australia, many have raised voices that Babar deserves to enter the Fab Four batters in the modern era (comprising Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Steve Smith).

In this regard, Ajmal spoke highly of Babar and also lauded young guns such as Md Rizwan and speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi.

He has proven himself in every format. He has aggression and calmness at the same time. He has everything and has performed well. But having said that, what Babar Azam has achieved in the last year is worth appreciating," Ajmal told Cricket Pakistan.

"If you talk about bowlers… among spinner, Nathan Lyon has delivered impressive performances over the last five years. Among pacers, players like Shaheen Afridi, Mitchell Starc and Jasprit Bumrah have given match-winning performances," he further asserted.

'Greatest of this era are Virat Kohli, Babar Azam' - Former spinner heaps praise on Pakistan captain

There is a lot of action taking place in the longest format of the game and, hence, leading to rapid changes in the points table of the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. After Babar Azam-led Pakistan's riveting draw versus Australia in the second and penultimate Test, in Karachi, there have been some changes in the overall standings.

Talking about the second Test, Pat Cummins-led Australia rode on Marnus Labuschagne's 160 to post 556-9 decl. after opting to bat first at the National Stadium, Karachi. In reply, Pakistan fell flat for 148, conceding a whopping 408-run lead in the process. Despite the humongous lead conceded, Babar-led Pakistan managed to draw the Test while chasing 506 in the fourth and final innings. Babar's 196 and Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out led the home side to 443-7 when both sides settled for a draw on the final day's play. Following the enthralling battle, Australia and Pakistan remain at the top two positions, respectively, but there are some changes in PCT (i.e. Points won by a team / Points contested * 100).

After the Karachi Test, Pakistan skipper Babar said at the post-match presentation, "The plan was to bat session-by-session and build partnerships. It was a team effort, as others (Shafique and Rizwan) chipped in with useful contributions too. We took the onus and the main focus was to build partnerships right throughout the day. Rizwan was outstanding as he saved the Test for us eventually. We wanted to continue to bat in the same way (after the tea break) and we tried to be positive and play our shots. The team needed this knock, so I tried to bat for as long as I could."

Meanwhile, Cummins stated, "I think so, I think we had enough overs, it was a pretty good wicket even on day 4 and day 5. We created a few chances, but we failed to grab them. Mitch Swepson was fantastic on debut, his figures don't do justice to the way he bowled. Nathan was impressive towards the end, as he always does on day 5. For an Australian team to bat over two days at the start of a Test match, I don't think we've done that for a long time. Lots of positives from this match and so far in the series. The way we batted was fantastic, the way we hunted and took those wickets on day 3 with reverse swing, that was brilliant as well. And we were always ahead in the game, so really proud of the boys."

More changes are expected in the WTC points table with the conclusion of the Pakistan-Australia Tests and the ongoing second and penultimate Test between hosts West Indies and England.

Updated ICC World Test Championship points table after Pakistan's riveting draw vs Australia

Australia declared their first innings on 556 for nine and then skittled out Pakistan for 148 to seize control of the second test in Karachi on Monday.

After more than two days of leather-hunt under a harsh sun at the National Stadium, Pakistan's abject batting capitulation handed Australia a mammoth first-innings lead of 408.

The hosts were spared the ignominy of a follow-on but Australia's overall lead bulged to 489 as the touring side finished day three on 81-1.

Their Islamabad-born opener Usman Khawaja was batting on 35 with Marnus Labuschagne on 37.

Earlier, Australia milked 51 runs in nine overs before declaring their innings immediately after crossing the 550-mark.

Skipper Pat Cummins smashed three sixes in his unbeaten 34 off 36 balls against a jaded Pakistan attack on a slow track.

Pakistan were let down by their openers who showed poor judgment to depart either side of the lunch break.

Abdullah Shafique made 13 before running himself out and opening partner Imam-ul-Haq, who smashed twin hundreds in the drawn series opener in Rawalpindi, fell to Nathan Lyon in a sudden rush of needless aggression.

STARC STRIKES

Mitchell Starc then claimed two in two to rock Pakistan.

The left-arm quick lured Azhar Ali (14) into driving a full and wide delivery and Cameron Green grabbed the edge at second slip.

Starc followed that with a searing yorker to trap Fawad Alam lbw for a duck.

Mohammad Rizwan somehow denied Starc a hat-trick but looked pretty much a sitting duck during his 13-ball stay.

Dropped in the slip by Steve Smith off Cummins, Rizwan got another life in the very next ball when an lbw decision against him was overturned.

It did not really matter though as Cummins returned to dismiss Rizwan caught behind in his next over.
