The BCCI indefinitely postponed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 owing to positive cases across multiple teams inside the bio-secure bubble. Ashwin, who plays for IPL 2021 runners-up Delhi Capitals, decided to withdraw from the T20 tournament to be with his family. While Ashwin didn’t reveal the reason for his exit initially, his wife disclosed that as many as 10 people at their home had tested positive for COVID-19.<o:p></o:p>

The Managing Director of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Ashley Giles as said that the priority of English players would be to represent the country while adding no changes would be made to the international schedule in a bid to accommodate the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.<o:p></o:p>

Giles maintained his earlier stance that ECB has not received any official requests to shift the five-Test series against India, which would allow more time for the BCCI in the September-October window to conduct the remainder of IPL 2021 in the UAE. <o:p></o:p>

‘I’m not aware of anything official, any requests to shift anything. As far as we’re concerned and what we’re prepared for, the matches will be where they are. I’m not surprised there’s all sorts of speculation. Everyone wants to get their cricket in. But we’ve not received anything official and we’re cracking on,” Giles said. <o:p></o:p>

Giles further said that even if some players are rested for the limited-overs tours of Bangladesh and Pakistan in September-October, that would not mean they can go and participate in IPL 2021.

However, former England skipper Michael Vaughan gave his suggestions on how to resume the cash-rich T20 league, which was postponed after several cases emerged inside the bio-secure bubble.&nbsp;

"Simple solution. Play the First Indian Test a week earlier. No England Test players would then potentially play the 100 so fringe Indian Test players replace them. Then the IPL can finish. Good deal all round," Vaughan said on Twitter.

Former India opener turned commentator Aakash Chopra supported Michael Vaughan's idea. On his YouTube channel, he said: "I liked Michael Vaughan's suggestion a lot. If you are taking care of my interests, it is my duty to take care of your interests. So, if you start the Test series a week earlier, we will release our fringe players for The Hundred."

"They can have 4-5 Indian players for The Hundred. To date, no current Indian player has been allowed in any of the world's T20 leagues. But we make an exception for this one tournament," added Aakash Chopra.

"In the post-pandemic world, there is a realization that no one will be able to do anything on their own. Everyone will need the others' help sometime or the other. Everybody will have to look after each other. If you take the example of India's tour to Sri Lanka, more matches were added on the tour to help the Sri Lankan board else all these boards will become bankrupt," said Chopra.

Chennai Super Kings batting coach and former Australian star Michael Hussey has revealed some details of his battle with the dreaded COVID-19. Former Aussie was the third member in the Chennai Super Kings contingent to have tested positive for the infectious virus after bus driver and bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji.

"I wasn’t thinking about (getting home) too much to start with. I was focusing on just trying to get better again, really. My initial test came up as a weak positive, and we were sort of hoping the next would be negative and it’d be alright, but unfortunately I got retested the next day and that came back positive,” Hussey told Fox Sports.

“To be honest, I had already started feeling some of the symptoms and so I was thinking, ‘I’m pretty sure I’ve got it’. Plus, I was sitting next to the bowling coach on the bus a few times, so I thought, ‘If he’s got it then there’s a pretty good chance, I’ve got it as well’.”

Hussey also said that he was certain that he must have contracted the virus sometime after they left the bio-bubble in Mumbai and travelled to Delhi for their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 28.

"There was a risk there. It (also) could have been at the ground; there was ground staff while we were there training and on game day. There was certainly more risk once we left that Mumbai bubble," added Hussey.

He also revealed his reaction when he first got to know that he had tested positive for coronavirus.&nbsp;

"I was a bit like, 'Oh gosh, why me', but I didn't really think too much at all. I thought it was a bit of a shame. But I certainly wasn’t worried about my breathing or things like that. It was just a bit annoying, really."

Hussey had to stay back in India even after the IPL got suspended as he had tested positive for the virus. He was the only Australian member from IPL 2021 to have stayed back while others moved to the Maldives, where they had to spend a week before returning to Australia on May 13. Hussey, along with Balaji, was airlifted from Delhi to Chennai. Mike Hussey has now tested negative and is all set to fly back home via Doha after the travel ban will end.&nbsp;

"That's what we ended up going with in the end. We were a bit nervous obviously with flights being cancelled left, right and centre. But thankfully it all went quite smoothly and it’s good to be back," explained Hussey.

"Even once we arrived in Sydney, the police and the staff at the airport were all really friendly and made you feel as comfortable as they could because it’s obviously not the nicest experience."

“All the other teams were in top form with last year’s disappointing team, Chennai Super Kings, looking like the champion it usually had been all these years. There was a renewed energy about the team this time, though there were no major changes to its squad,” Gavaskar wrote.

He went on to praise Chennai Super Kings' choice to promote Moeen Ali to No. 3 during IPL 2021 ended up being a masterstroke.&nbsp;

Batting up the order, the England all-rounder pounded 206 runs in six matches for Chennai Super Kings' at a strike rate of 157.25. He furnished the innings with some genuinely necessary stimulus with the bat, which the franchise appeared to be deficient with regards to last season.&nbsp;

"We don't know if or when the tournament will be rearranged, but as the ECB have said it could be difficult for the England boys to have a free gap," Stokes wrote in his column for 'Daily Mirror'.

Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach Brad Haddin has opened up about the management’s decision to replace David Warner as the captain of the team during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Haddin revealed that Warner responded to the demotion with ‘class’ and just got back with his job as nothing happened.<o:p></o:p>

Warner was not only removed from the captaincy role but was even dropped from the playing XI, a move that shocked the cricket fraternity considering Warner has been among the most consistent players in the history of IPL. <o:p></o:p>

Haddin said the way Warner would have come back in contention to start in the next few days while adding the southpaw is one of the best in the world in the shortest format of the game. <o:p></o:p>

While SRH was lying at the bottom of the IPL 2021 table, the SRH management decided to shake things up in a bid to get back to winning run.

Sunrisers Hyderabad and India wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha has opened up on his fight against COVID-19 after getting infected with the dreaded virus during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Saha tested positive for COVID-19 after two Kolkata Knight Riders returned positive – the same day IPL 2021 was postponed indefinitely.<o:p></o:p>

Saha said that he was tested twice after feeling tired and complaining of cold but both the reports came negative. He underwent another test after getting a fever and the report returned positive. <o:p></o:p>

“Covid test was taken on the same day. The next day the report came negative. The second day I was also tested. The result was negative. Yet I was not allowed to leave the seclusion. Because by then fever had started coming. After the test on the third day, the result was positive,” Saha added.

There are plenty of talks surrounding the postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 when it comes to the availability of overseas players if the T20 tournament resumes later in the year. The BCCI and IPL Governing Council in an emergency meeting had unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 last week and is now working on finding a window for the remainder of the tournament. Taking to social media platform Kevin Pietersen said that it would be interesting to see how the ECB handle the issue and not allow its best players for IPL 2021 while adding if the players stand together, they will go on to play in the remainder of the tournament.

There are many doubts on how much the Australian players will earn should they decide to not participate in the postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 when it resumes. "I didn't play as many matches as I expected to, and somewhere I was low on confidence. When you are playing non-stop, players do feel high on confidence. The more one sits out the more it gets tougher. I felt a huge pressure on me when I played the Test against England in Chennai this February (his last Test was in January 2019). Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey has returned COVID-19 positive for the second time and will continue to recover in India. Hussey, after testing positive for COVID-19 in Delhi, was airlifted to Chennai on May 6 and continues to remain in isolation. According to the BCCI protocols, a member needs to return two consecutive negative tests to leave the isolation. <o:p></o:p>

“He tested negative before getting on an air ambulance from Delhi to Chennai (on Thursday). He is doing fine. All other overseas personnel have left, head coach Stephen Fleming will be flying out tomorrow,” CSK CEO Viswanathan had said.

Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey has returned COVID-19 positive for the second time and will continue to recover in India. While most of the 38-member Australian contingent, participating in the IPL 2021, is now in the Maldives and are waiting for government clearance on the travel ban on May 15, Hussey remained in India after testing positive for the dreaded virus.

While most of the 38-member Australian contingent, participating in the IPL 2021, is now in the Maldives and are waiting for government clearance on the travel ban on May 15, Hussey remained in India after testing positive for the dreaded virus. The BCCI arranged a charter flight to the Maldives for Australian cricketers, coaches, umpires, commentators as they followed Michael Slater to the island nation after IPL 2021 was postponed last week. Hussey, after testing positive for COVID-19 in Delhi, was airlifted to Chennai on May 6 and continues to remain in isolation. According to the BCCI protocols, a member needs to return two consecutive negative tests to leave the isolation. “He tested negative before getting on an air ambulance from Delhi to Chennai (on Thursday). He is doing fine. All other overseas personnel have left, head coach Stephen Fleming will be flying out tomorrow,” CSK CEO Viswanathan had said. The New Zealand cricketers who left India following the postponement of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, may head to England for their two-match Test series against England, starting June 2 at the Lord’s, followed by the ICC World Test Championship final against India on June 18 in Southampton.<o:p></o:p>

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is unsure about the quarantine protocols for those players upon arrival in the UK.<o:p></o:p>

"I don't know all the details right now. My understanding is that they are looking to leave (Maldives) somewhere around the time that we leave - May 15, 16 or 17- in that time frame. My understanding is that the England board is still working through the final details of what it means to come through the Maldives as supposed to New Zealand."<o:p></o:p>

The likes of Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson and physio Tommy Simsek headed to the Maldives from India after IPL 2021 was indefinitely postponed. They were initially told the quarantine period would be three or four days but was extended by a week. <o:p></o:p>

"They can still work on their fitness. So I don't see it as a bad thing. It's an adapting world and I think that's just something we've got to keep doing," Stead said.<o:p></o:p>

However, pacer Trent Boult chose to return to New Zealand and will be missing the first Test against England. He is doubtful for the second Test if New Zealand decide to manage his workload. <o:p></o:p>

"Everyone has got their reasons around it," Stead said. "India changed very, very quickly, over the space of two or three days, and there were options put in front of the guys and he (Boult) felt for him and his mental health, the best thing he could do was get home for a while.<o:p></o:p>

Even though the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has been postponed for the time being but the performances in the lucrative T20 tournament continue to be a talking point in the cricketing world. The Delhi Capitals opener, who struggled to make a mark in IPL 2020, was back to his best as he gave solid starts to his franchise in the 14 th edition of the tournament. IPL 2021: David Warner and Michael Slater address reports of engaging in brawl

The postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 came as a huge blow to the BCCI but players and staff’s safety was paramount for the organisers. Since the postponement, there have been many reports about rescheduling the T20 tournament and whether an alternate window is possible after the ICC World Test Championship final and before the much-awaited series against England. <o:p></o:p>

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has cleared the air surrounding the postponed IPL 2021 as he said that there is no window for IPL 2021 in between the WTC final and England series as the Indian team will play Sri Lanka for three ODI and five T20Is. <o:p></o:p>

“No (on playing IPL 2021 in between WTC final and England series). India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL,” Ganguly told Sportstar.

The BCCI drew widespread criticism for continuing with the IPL 2021 at a time when India is battling with the devastating second wave of COVID-19. While many had called for an early suspension of the T20 tournament, the BCCI eventually postponed it after the virus hit the players inside the bubble. Should it have been called off earlier? <o:p></o:p>

“You can say that now in hindsight that the IPL should have been called off earlier. Mumbai and Chennai (legs) did not have cases. Only when the IPL reached Delhi and Ahmedabad did the cases rise. People will say a lot of things in any case. The English Premier League had so many people affected. But they could reschedule the matches. But you can’t do that with IPL. You stop it for seven days and it is done. Players go back home and then the process of quarantine starts from scratch,” Ganguly told the same publication.

"I have picked Faf du Plessis first. He has batted amazingly well, scored runs consistently and at a good pace. I think with him will be Jos Buttler. His real form was seen in the 124-run knock against SRH. He was a little hot and cold before that but it was not that he was getting out for five runs. I have kept Moeen Ali at No.3. He made good contributions when he was sent to bat at No.3. At No.4, I have got Glenn Maxwell. RCB started to play him at No.4. We thought he will get stuck on the Chennai pitch but he batted well," said Chopra on his Youtube channel.

"At No.5, I have kept AB de Villiers. He is not your No.5 but when RCB kept him there, we all were surprised. At No.6, the start was slow, there was a knock of 40-odd but then the 87 against CSK, Kieron Pollard became the lord of the Kotla," Chopra continued.

"At No.7, I have got Andre Russell. One day when they were 31/5, he demolished the attack. He took wickets as well and even took five wickets in an innings against Mumbai," added Chopra.

"After that, I have kept Chris Morris. Whichever encounters Rajasthan won, his performance has been good, somewhere wickets and runs at other times. They were important runs. It might have been a short knock but a match-winning one. I was confused between Pat Cummins and Sam Curran, I am going with Sam Curran for the simple reason that he is value for money. He does better than his abilities.”

"At No.10, I have got Rashid. I thought about Narine and didn't find any other good spinner in the overseas contingent. In the end, I have kept Trent Boult," signed off Chopra.

Among these players, some overseas cricketers left a lasting impact on their respective franchises. Former Indian opener-turned commentator Aakash Chopra assembled his best XI of foreign players who are involved in the recently-suspended IPL 2021. IN PICS| From Padikkal to Hussey: IPL members who tested positive for COVID-19 "At No.7, I have got Andre Russell. He does better than his abilities.” "At No.10, I have got Rashid. I thought about Narine and didn't find any other good spinner in the overseas contingent. In the end, I have kept Trent Boult," signed off Chopra. Akash Chopra's best overseas XI: Faf du Plessis, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Chris Morris, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, Trent Boult

AB de Villiers, despite retiring from international cricket three years ago, continues to perform well in the Indian Premier League. The form he exhibited in IPL 2021 shows that he still has it in him. The South African took RCB out of several sticky positions and delivered a win.&nbsp;

In seven matches, De Villiers smashed three half-centuries and chased or posed some heavy targets for the team. There are still some doubts of him returning on the international stage, however, he still has the capacity to bolster Proteas' batting attack.&nbsp;

Virender Sehwag lauded the South African legend and felt that the tag of 'Mr.360' suits AB de Villiers for his heroic knocks.&nbsp;

"People may forget his real name, but will always remember Mr. 360 degree. I don't think we need to give him any other name because how many can you even come up with. 360 degree is a good enough name. In the match against Delhi Capitals, when he left a few balls from Marcus Stoinis outside off-stump, he realised he left a wrong ball. Off the next ball, he went outside off, and even though he was expecting a similar delivery, it was a short-pitched ball and he hit a six," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

"Only AB de Villiers could have done that. Had there been any other batsman, he would have gone outside off and instead ducked to the short ball or may have gotten out. I think only de Villiers could have connected. So, no need to look for any more adjectives or songs or poems. 360 degree is the perfect name," Sehwag said.
