As per a report in Sportstar, BCCI are likely to host the league across six venues. Five venues in Maharashtra have been 'zeroed in on' -- due avoid flight travel amid such testing times nationwide -- whereas the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad will host the knockout games.

From Jason Holder to Tim David: 5 underrated overseas stars who fetched big-fat cheques at mega auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction was a much-awaited affair. The two-day event was held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. During the course of the auction, as many as 590 players went under the hammer. Many marquee players earned whopping deals whereas some uncapped and inexperienced cricketers also returned with big-fat cheques.

On the other hand, some iconic and popular T20 players went unsold. The auction saw bidding wars for many players as the ten IPL franchises fought hard as the eight existing teams had to revamp whereas the two new additions -- in the form of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) -- build their sides from scratch.

DC, CSK, MI or RCB? Here's which franchise bid for maximum players at IPL 2022 mega auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction was a successful two-day event, held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. After the end of the mega auction, Ishan Kishan finished as the most expensive player; being bought back by the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise for a whopping INR 152.5 million (INR 15.25 crore).

Ishan wasn't retained by the Rohit Sharma-led MI franchise ahead of the mega auction. However, his rise in stature and wide range of shots ensured that he was re-acquired by the five-time champions MI in the mega auction. Ahead of the India-West Indies T20I series, on Wednesday (February 16), the 23-year-old Ishan revealed the advice he got from head coach Rahul Dravid post the auction proceedings.

“It’s [auction] done. Had a good chat with Rahul sir also. [He] asked us to just focus on what we are doing right now. Obviously, IPL is a big platform for everyone, and people get happy when they go to good teams. But the focus is on this series,” Kishan told the host broadcaster before the T20I encounter on Wednesday.

“I’m the happiest when I open the innings, but looking at the situation and what the team asks me to do, I’m okay with my role and comfortable batting anywhere. It’s a big six-hitting ground (Eden Gardens, Kolkata) but that’s my strength, I can clear any ground on any day. I have to go there and watch the ball, be clear about what my role is and what the team needs me to do," the 23-year old further highlighted.

Talking about Ishan's performance in the first T20I, the swashbuckling left-hander wasn't at his fluent best and managed a 42-ball 35 in India's chase of 158. Being asked to bat first, Kieron Pollard-led WI managed 157/7 -- with debutant Ravi Bishnoi and Harshal Patel taking two scalps each -- before India chased down the total with 7 balls and 6 wickets to spare. Rohit's 19-ball 40 and Suryakumar Yadav-Venkatesh Iyer's finishing skills enabled a 1-0 lead for the hosts.

The second and penultimate T20I will be played at the same venue on Friday (February 18).

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made some shrewd buys at the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. While the four-time champions once again invested heavily on experienced and managed to get back a number of their former players back, they also roped in some of the talented Indian youngsters.

CSK bought India U-19 all-rounder Rajvardhan Hangargekar as well at the mega auction after beating Mumbai Indians to his signing for a sum of Rs 1.5 crore (INR 15 million). One of the heroes of India U-19's title-winning campaign in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2021, Hangargekar has seen a lot of hardships in life at a tender age but is well on his way to realising his dream of playing for India one day.

Hangargekar was only 17 when he lost his father to COVID-19 during the first lockdown in the year 2020. However, he showcased great determination and picked himself up amidst the misery to focus on what he loved - cricket. The youngster, who hails from the Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, carved out a pitch of his own to train and practice fast bowling on his farm at his village.

The 19-year-old, who recently lifted the U-19 World Cup trophy with the Yash Dhull-led Indian team, said he always knew what he wanted to do and that he had already decided his goals after his father's shocking demise. Hangargekar admitted it was a tough phase for him but he decided to go after his goals and work as hard as he could to make it to the India U-19 side.

An all-rounder, who can clock impressive pace and can also be a handy batter lower down the order, Hangargekar will get to learn from some of the best in the business at CSK, including captain MS Dhoni. The CSK skipper has made superstars out of several young cricketers in a stellar captaincy career spanning around 15 years.

Hangargekar revealed his late father was a huge admirer of Dhoni - the skipper and the way he runs the game from behind the stumps. One of te most successful captains in the history of IPL, Dhoni has led CSK to four titles and a staggering nine finals since 2008. The India U-19 star said he is looking forward to playing for CSK and get to learn from Dhoni at the franchise.

"He was really good guy, he always wanted me to be an international player, I wish he was watching me playing for CSK, because he really loved the way Dhoni handled the game, he really loved how calm Dhoni is in tough situations, he was also a calm person in a lot of tough situations. I'm really keen to work with CSK and MS Dhoni," said Hangargekar.

While some big players attained whopping deals and were sold at a high price, few uncapped players or relatively inexperienced campaigners also fetched big fat cheques.

Nonetheless, some T20 stars didn't draw a single bid and went unsold. The likes of Suresh Raina, Shakib Al Hasan, Steve Smith, Adil Rashid, etc. went unsold. Raina's name surprised many as he is known as Mr. IPL and has been a vital cog of the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the tournament's inception in 2008, barring the two seasons in between when the Yellow Army was serving a suspension on account of spot-fixing scandal (in 2016 and 2017).

Raina has amassed 5,528 IPL runs -- fourth-highest overall in the tournament history -- and was part of CSK's title wins in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. However, he managed only 160 runs at an average of 17.77 in the last year's edition. Having a base price of INR 20 million (INR 2 crore) also didn't help the swashbuckling left-hander as he went unsold. CSK didn't retain him initially and also didn't bid for him, along with the other nine franchises.

As Raina went unsold, his big revelation on his IPL future, in 2021, is doing the rounds. In an interview with News 24 Sports, Raina had stated, “If Dhoni bhaai doesn’t play next season, I too won’t play. We’ve been playing since 2008 (for CSK)… if we win this year then I’ll convince him to play next year too…“I’ll try my best. If he will not play, then I don’t think I will play for any IPL team."

Both Raina and Dhoni have been one of the most loved and successful pairs in world cricket. The duo have won India several games in the white-ball formats and remained a lethal force for the Yellow Army in IPL as well. It will be interesting to see if CSK include Raina in their coaching setup for IPL 2022 edition.

For now, Raina's IPL career is more or less over.

ALSO READ | 'He did look a little scared' - Gavaskar explains why Suresh Raina went unsold at IPL 2022 mega auction Raina has amassed 5,528 IPL runs -- fourth-highest overall in the tournament history -- and was part of CSK's title wins in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. If he will not play, then I don’t think I will play for any IPL team." It will be interesting to see if CSK include Raina in their coaching setup for IPL 2022 edition. For now, Raina's IPL career is more or less over.

The IPL 2022 mega auction was a star-studded event, which took place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. As many as 590 players went under the hammer. Explaining the reason for Raina's possible snub at the IPL 2022 mega auction, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar told on Sports Tak, "For Raina I was definitely surprised. He is left-handed, does off-spin bowling, and is experienced. 'He did look a little scared' - Gavaskar explains why Suresh Raina went unsold at IPL 2022 mega auction

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction, the newly formed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bought Indian bowler Avesh Khan for an amount of Rs100.00 million. The bowler was released by Delhi Capitals (DC) after IPL 2021.

After LSG's successful bid, Khan became the most expensive uncapped pick in IPL auction history. The 25-year-old shattered the previous record of Rs 9.25 crore paid for Krishnappa Gowtham by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2021.

While interacting with Sportskeeda, Khan said that he was on the flight at that time and he had expected he would get at least Rs 7 crores.

"I was on the flight at that time and I had expected I would get at least 7 crores. But since I was on the flight and couldn't watch the auction live, I was feeling a bit nervous thinking which team would pick me and for how much," he said.

"Upon landing when I got to know that Lucknow bought me for 10 crores, I froze for five seconds. But then things became normal, I was like okay," Khan added.

"Ishan Kishan and Mohammed Siraj were pulling my leg throughout the flight journey – they were just speculating how much I would go for, which all teams would be interested in me, and all that. Once we landed, the network on my phone was spotty, but then Venkatesh Iyer broke the news to me," he said.

"I would miss them [Ricky Ponting and Co.] a lot because I had an emotional connect with the Delhi Capitals. After our flight landed in Kolkata, I met Rishabh outside and he held his arms wide open for giving me a hug," he added.

"He told me, 'Sorry, le nahin paye' (sorry we couldn't buy you). Because, they weren't left with a huge purse and had players to buy as well. When I watched the auction later, I saw that they did place a final bid for me at 8.75cr, but Lucknow eventually bid the highest. So it was a very emotional moment with Rishabh; we have played Under-19 together, we always sit together after matches, hangout together," Avesh further added.

The IPL 2022 mega auction was an enthralling two-day affair, which was held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. As many as 590 players went under the hammer in the mega auction, which was held after four years. At the end of the two-day auction, all the ten IPL franchises have added quite a lot of big names to their respective squads before the IPL 2022 edition, which gets underway in late March.

Talking about the Punjab Kings (PBKS), they retained only opener Mayank Agarwal and pacer Arshdeep Singh before heading into the mega auction, with INR 720 million in their purse. As a result of having the highest purse before the auction, the PBKS think-tank went all-out and roped in some big players and relatively experienced as well as uncapped cricketers to the squad.

There were 20 players who got more than USD 1 million (Rs 7.53 crore as per Saturday's exchange rates).

Q. Why did Ishan Kishan go for Rs 15.25 crore?
A: A current India player and also a wicket-keeper. Can win matches singlehandedly and, at 24, has age on his side. A part of MI's batting core. With 48 crore available, they could have gone for only one big India player. With matches at Wankhede and short boundaries, Kishan is the man to watch out for.

Q. Why did CSK pay Rs 14 crore for Deepak Chahar?
A: CSK had to go the distance for one among Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur, both blessed with multiple skill sets. Chahar with his impeccable powerplay wicket-taking ability and being a part of CSK's set template of experienced players was a no-brainer. Once they took Chahar, they couldn't have possibly gone for Shardul. However, CSK still look short on the express pace department but MS Dhoni will manage it.

Q: Why did Nicholas Pooran and Jonny Bairstow get big deals and Matthew Wade went unsold?
A: Most among the 10 teams needed wicket-keepers. Pooran had a horrendous last IPL but is still considered among one of the biggest T20 hitters plus a safe gloveman, and at times, a brilliant outfielder. It also had a lot to do with the kind of purse that SRH and Punjab Kings had, which certainly inflated his bid.

As far as Matthew Wade who played a blinder in the T20 World Cup semi-final against Pakistan, he isn't the best player of spin bowling on sluggish surfaces, and hence, Bairstow, who has shown his IPL wares, got a deal.

Q. Why so many foreign fast bowlers with big fat deals?
A: Most of the teams during retention had shored up their batting, and hence, always had to depend on an auction for tearaway quick bowlers. So a Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna fetched more than Trent Boult at the auction.

It also had a lot to do with Boult coming in a marquee set at the start and the likes of Lockie, Josh Hazlewood coming later in the fast bowlers' set. Kagiso Rabada also went for more than a million dollars as he would have in the first place.

Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel were rewarded for their great show last year and they have been regularly playing domestic cricket. Kartik Tyagi, Shivam Mavi all earned their stripes for raw pace despite not even remotely being in India contention as of now.

Q: Why did KKR spend 12.25 crore on Shreyas Iyer?
A: KKR were looking at two things: a solid top-order, preferably No. 3 or 4 batter and also a proven captaincy material. With must of the top Indian batters not available, Iyer would have cost a bomb and he did indeed.

Q: Which team was most impressive in its choice of players?
A: Delhi Capitals, despite losing a lot of their core players, did a fine job by getting David Warner for less than Rs 7 crore. A Warner-Prithvi Shaw opening combination looks the most destructive. Getting a Mitchell Marsh for less than 7 crore was also a bargain and so was Sarafaraz Khan at a base price of Rs 20 lakh and Kuldeep Yadav for Rs 2 crore.

Q. Which franchise looked the least impressive with their buys?
A: While Lucknow Supergiants were really impressive in their maiden season (although they had come in as Pune earlier), Gujarat Lions' picks defied logic. They haven't yet picked a wicketkeeper and even KS Bharath is sold out. Giving 9 crore to Rahul Tewatia, a one-match wonder of Sharjah, was baffling. He isn't a consistent performer.

Q. Which franchise looks to have a good spin attack?
A: Rajasthan Royals with Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal look to have a very good spin attack for Indian conditions.

Q: What happens to Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma?
A: Pujara and Rahane are slotted at Nos 103 and 104, respectively, while Ishant is at 124 in the list. They will all come on Sunday but they are low priority as per the franchise's demand for players. Rahane might be taken by CSK for his experience.

Q: What happens to IPL journeymen like Siddarth Kaul and Mandeep Singh?
A: On Sunday, a lot of players will go for a low bidding price as most franchises have exhausted their purse to buy first-team players. Teams like KKR need to buy at least nine more players (for a minimum squad of 18) and only have 12 crores to spend. So these guys won't be attracting great bids.

The 10 IPL franchises have so far spent above Rs 388 crore collectively to buy 74 players out of which 20 are overseas recruits. There were 20 players who got more than USD 1 million (Rs 7.

ALSO READ | Complete list of players sold on Day 1 of IPL 2022 mega auction: Kishan, Chahar emerge as costliest buys Q. IPL Explainer: Decoding the whys and why nots of auction Day 1

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a good run in the two-day IPL 2022 mega auction, held in Bengaluru. The mega auction was an entertaining affair as several marquee players were sold at a whopping price whereas some unknown and relatively inexperienced campaigners also made a mark by attracting quite a lot of bids.

The mega auction, held after four years, also stood out for many players being shifted to a new franchise as the IPL 2022 edition promises to be an enthralling and engaging ten-team tournament, set to be held in March-May this year. Talking about the two-time winners and IPL 2021 runners-up KKR, they entered the auction pool with INR 480 million (INR 48 crore). Prior to the mega auction, the Shahrukh Khan-co-owned franchise had retained four players: Varun Chakravarthy (INR 80 million), Sunil Narine (INR 60 million), Venkatesh Iyer (INR 80 million) and Andre Russell (INR 120 million).

In the mega auction, KKR have revamped decently with plenty of new additions whereas they have also managed to bring back some vital cogs. However, some questions still remain.

KKR's 22-member squad comprises 15 Indian players along with 7 foreign recruits. They have invested heavily on various all-rounders, such as Pat Cummins (re-signed for INR 72.5 million), Md Nabi, Nitish Rana, etc. The KKR unit managed to include wily swing bowler Tim Southee in their line-up as well and got some big names to fill their batting department, such as Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane (INR 10 million), Sheldon Jackson, Alex Hales, Sam Billings (INR 20 million).

KKR broke the bank for Iyer, the former Delhi Capitals' (DC) skipper, for INR 122.5 million (INR 12.25 crore). The Kolkata-based franchise, however, will feel too dependent on Cummins and Southee in the pace department. While they did manage to add Umesh Yadav (INR 20 million) to the squad, the Indian pacer hasn't been a regular in IPL and in Team India's white-ball squads. On the other hand, a lot of onus will be on Varun and Narine to handle the spin workload.

Overall, Iyer seems like a frontrunner to succeed Eoin Morgan -- not re-signed by the team management -- to lead KKR in IPL 2022.

Kolkata Knight Riders complete squad for IPL 2022: Shreyas Iyer joins Galaxy of Knights, Cummins returns

Kuldeep Yadav wasn't retained by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before the IPL 2022 mega auction. On Day 1 of the mega auction, being held in Bengaluru, the 27-year-old was sold to the Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 20 million (INR 2 crore).

Kuldeep debuted in the IPL in 2016, representing the then Gautam Gambhir-led KKR unit. Under KKR, Kuldeep remained a mainstay till the 12th edition in 2018, however, his stocks went down since the IPL 2019 season. He played only 9 games in IPL 2019 whereas featured in only five encounters for the Kolkata-based franchise in the last two seasons. In the 2021 edition, he was ruled out due to injury.

Thus, the Rishabh Pant-led DC camp acquired his services for the IPL 2022 edition during the opening day of the mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday (February 12). After getting Kuldeep for INR 20 million, with his base price being INR 10 million, DC co-owner Parth Jindal took a dig at the KKR team management for not valuing Kuldeep's talent in the last few seasons.

“When we looked at the value names, one of the names that stuck with us was Kuldeep Yadav. Yesterday, when Kuldeep played for India against WI (talking about the third ODI), I was holding myself I hope Kuldeep doesn't do a wonderful job, because then his price will go crazy,” Jindal said on Auction Alert with Boria.

“I don't think he has been handled well in IPL in last few seasons. He is a player who rides on confidence. In the environment we have created at DC, with Ricky and Rishabh, this is really what we want to give him. He has a lot to prove and the fire in the belly is there. We are very keen to see what he does come March end," he added.

Fact Check: Was Sourav Ganguly admitted to hospital in Bengaluru ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction?

Shreyas Iyer, the former Delhi Capitals (DC) captain, has gone for a whopping sum at the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction, being held in Bengaluru on Saturday (February 12). Iyer, who led the DC franchise to their maiden and only final in 2020 season, has been sold to the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 122.5 million (Rs 12.25 crore).

Iyer was expected to be in huge demand in the mega auction. As expected, the 27-year-old youngster triggered a bidding war between DC and the KKR franchise before the latter had the last laugh in the auction proceedings. The Delhi camp bid aggressively for him before the KKR unit jumped in at INR 70 million (Rs 7 crore) and bought Iyer for a humongous sum.

New KKR captain? Shreyas Iyer roped in by two-time champions for whopping INR 122.5 million

Avesh Khan, who had a memorable run for the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021, has made heads turn by becoming the highest-ever uncapped player during Day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction, being held in Bengaluru on Saturday (February 12). He, thus, went past K Gowtham’s 9.25 cr in 2021 (CSK) to create a new record among uncapped players.

When broadcaster Charu Sharma announced the players from the uncapped list, Avesh's name attracted quite a lot of franchises as he saw several teams bidding for him. The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mumbai Indians (MI) and the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were engaged in an intense bidding war for the 25-year-old pacer, who eventually went to the KL Rahul-led Lucknow franchise for a whopping price of INR 100 million (INR 10 crore).

DC, surprisingly, also didn't bid for Avesh; having already invested a huge sum on several players.

Prior to the mega auction proceedings, R Ashwin -- Avesh's ex-DC teammate -- had predicted a huge bidding war for the young speedster. "There is definitely going to be a bidding war for Avesh Khan. No doubt about that. Guarantee. Just like how Vijay Mallya fought for me with CSK in 2010, I can picture a Parth Jindal or a Kiran Rao fighting it out for Avesh Khan this year. With whom will they fight? Well, that might be any team," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Surely, many are highly impressed with Avesh as he will now look to replicate his previous season's performance in the Rahul-led Lucknow franchise.

IPL 2022 mega auction: Avesh Khan becomes highest-ever uncapped pick, sold for Rs 10 crore

The opening day of the IPL 2022 mega auction has lived upto expectations. The Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) entered the auction pool with INR 570 million (Rs 57 crore) in their purse. With the 33-year-old Kohli stepping down as the RCB captain after IPL 2021 edition, the franchise also had to lookout for a captaincy candidate in the mega auction.

While RCB have bought some big names, such as Faf du Plessis, Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dinesh Karthik, etc., former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has named Kohli's successor for IPL 2022 edition, set to be held in March-May. Chopra feels former South African captain Du Plessis is an ideal choice to replace Kohli from the top post. Faf was bought by RCB for INR 70 million (7 crore).

"100 percent. In my opinion, he (Faf) is their captain. They will eventually announce it for sure. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gone that hard for that long because there are other options available," Aakash Chopra told Star Sports.

"If you are looking only at openers, there were options and there will be more in the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy. They did not go for someone like a Warner or Quinton de Kock. They knew, they had their eyes set on Faf that he is our captain. His record is phenomenal. What he brings is stability and consistency. No international cricket is working in his favour now," Chopra added.

From Ishan Kishan to Yuvraj Singh: Top five most expensive Indian buys in IPL auction

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer used Sarojini Nagar market reference after Delhi-based Indian Premier League franchise bought Australian batter, David Warner, during the IPL 2022 mega auction on Saturday (February 12). Sarojini Nagar market is a very popular market in India's capital, known for cheap products.

Delhi Capitals roped in Warner for Rs 6.25 crore - a price tag that is like a bargain price as said by Jaffer, who is known for his humorous posts on social media.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasarange drew quite a lot of bid in the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction on Saturday (February 12). In the all-rounder's category, Hasaranga's name attracted many franchises as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) competed for him before his former team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) joined the race as the bidding war intensified.

Eventually, the Sri Lankan spin-bowling all-rounder went back to the Virat Kohli-Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a whopping INR 107.5 million (INR 10.75 crore) on Day 1 of the opening proceedings. The Sri Lankan's bid was interrupted in a freakish manner as auctioneer Hugh Edmeades led to a sudden halt to proceedings. It was a physical fall for Edmeades, which led to a stoppage in action as lunch break was taken. The auctioneer has been replaced by broadcaster Charu Sharma for the remainder of the opening day.

Coming back to Hasaranga, the Islander had a memorable run in the previous calendar year, accounting for most wickets in the shortest format in 2021 (36) and also contributing with vital runs down the order in limited-overs. The 24-year-old, who is the No. 1 ranked T20I bowler, had represented the Virat Kohli-starrer RCB franchise in the second and final leg of IPL 14. He, however, couldn't do much in his limited outings.

IPL 2022 mega auction live streaming: When and where to watch in India?

Virat Kohli resigned as the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) captain following the end of the three-time runners-up's campaign in the IPL 2021 edition. Kohli had announced the news at the start of the second and final leg of IPL 14, in the UAE, on September 19.

Back then, the RCB Twitter handle quoted Kohli as saying, "This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me."

He added, "It has been a great and an inspiring journey, captaining a talented bunch of players in the RCB squad. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCB management, coaches, support staff, players, and the entire RCB family, who have been instrumental in the growth of the franchise over the years."

Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, set to be held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh feels Kohli still remains the best man to lead RCB. "Despite having many big names, RCB is a team who is yet to lift the title. AB de Villiers won't play this season and Kohli has stepped down from captaincy... so they need to find a captain now. Among Indians, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are the two names who can efficiently lead the team," Harbhajan said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

"Shreyas has already shown his captaincy prowess while leading the Delhi franchise. But I think Kohli will have to don the captaincy hat again. RCB won't get a better leader than him," opined Harbhajan.

"RCB is making a new team and they will search for a good leader. But does Kohli want to take up the role? It will be a big challenge but I won't be surprised if he agrees to be the captain for the next 1-2 years," he added.

Recently, former Indian fast-bowling all-rounder Ajit Agarkar had also advised Kohli to reconsider taking up RCB captaincy.

"If Virat Kohli can take over the captaincy and if he is happy to do it and if he has the energy to do it, I think that will be the easiest solution for them," Agarkar told Star Sports show Game Plan ahead of the auction.

"At the end of the day, we have seen RCB over the years they haven't invested enough money in making a proper team of 12, 13 or 14 players with enough depth. It's always been dependent on the top three, not enough middle order players and if you don't have the money, you can't do that again. So, if you break the bank for one player, doesn't matter how good he is - will win you games but will never win you competitions," he further added.

Under Kohli, RCB won 64 games and lost 69. He led the franchise in 140 games, taking them to the IPL 2016 final where they lost to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

For now, RCB have retained Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Md Siraj ahead of the mega auction. They will have to include some famed and marquee players and then choose their next captain, unless Kohli has a change of mind (which seems highly unlikely at this point of time). He has already given up Team India captaincy altogether (resigning from two formats and being sacked as the ODI captain).

Virat Kohli should don captaincy hat again: Harbhajan Singh urges Indian star to lead RCB in IPL 2022

Hardik Pandya is out of action from international cricket for quite sometime. He remains a vital cog in India's limited-overs setup but hasn't played a single game since the Men in Blue's dismal 2021 T20 World Cup campaign.

Hardik has had issues fulfilling the all-rounder's role following his back surgery, in the pre-pandemic era. Since then, he hasn't bowled a lot for Team India and didn't roll his arms for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the last two IPL seasons. In the forthcoming IPL 2022 edition, the 28-year-old Hardik will represent the newly-formed Ahmedabad franchise, named the Gujarat Titans, where he will be eager to play as an all-rounder and also make a mark as captain.

While Hardik remains a big name in Indian cricket in recent times, following his IPL blitz for the MI franchise, the all-rounder had once failed to draw a single bid and went unsold at the 2014 auction for the cash-rich league. Back in 2014, Hardik wasn't a known face in the domestic circuit and, thus, failed to draw a single bid despite a base price of INR 1 million (Rs 10 lakhs).

In the 2015 auction, Hardik's base price remained the same but he managed to be bought by the Rohit Sharma-led MI franchise. From 2015-2021, Hardik has amassed 1,476 runs at a strike rate of 153.91 along with claiming 42 wickets. He was a vital part of MI's title win in the 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 editions, respectively. He will now be eager to replicate his success for his home franchise Gujarat Titans.

Virat Kohli has been one of the best players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years. The run machine is currently the all-time leading run-getter of the league and was the first batter to reach the milestone of 6,000 runs in the history of the tournament. While Kohli has been incredibly successful with the bat, he has also been extremely loyal to his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Kohli has been part of the RCB team since the inception of IPL in 2008 and has been with the franchise throughout his IPL career so far. He has not played for any other team in the tournament and has often expressed his desire to spend his entire IPL career with the side.

While speaking on the RCB podcast recently, Kohli revealed he has been approached by some IPL teams in the past but decided not to leave RCB. Kohli said he said he was requested by the teams to come in the auction somehow and has thought about the same but eventually decided to stay at RCB.

"I've been approached a few times as well -- to come into the auction somehow -- I have thought about it," Kohli said on RCB podcast.

"At the end of the day, a person lives a certain number of years, and then you die and life moves on. If you are a good person, people like you and if you are a bad guy, they stay away from you. Eventually, that's what life is all about," Kohli added.
