Senior pacer Ishant Sharma has been a regular in Test cricket for India over the years. He has been one of the country's pace spearheads ever since coming into the limelight and continues to remain a vital cog in the fast bowling setup. However, he has struggled with his form and fitness recently which has seen Ishant in and out of India's playing XI.

Ishant is yet to feature in the playing XI for India in the ongoing three-match Test series against South Africa. The senior pacer is no more a certain starter in the playing XI and is unlikely to make the cut in the series-deciding third Test which gets underway from January 11 in Cape Town.

Mohammed Siraj is likely to miss the series-decider after picking up an injury in the second Test with Ishant one of the strongest contenders to take his place in the XI. However, with the likes of Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur above him in the pecking order, Ishant might fail to make the cut.

Former India batter Wasim Jaffer believes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Siraj are currently India's top three seamers in Tests and Ishant has likely played his final game for the country. Jaffer believes the senior pacer might not play another Test for India in the future.

“I think so [he has played his last Test for India]. If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj are fit, they are the first three seamers. Then you have Shardul and Umesh. Shardul is an all-rounder now so that makes him choose ahead [of other bowlers]. So, definitely, for Ishant, it will be difficult," said Jaffer.

“Obviously, when you are on long tours, the top seamers will be rested or the line-up will be rotated and probably then a place for Ishant will open up. In that case, he will play a few games," he added.

Jaffer believed Ishant, who is in the final lap of his Test career, must be thinking about taking a call on retirement after the ongoing Test series against South Africa. Ishant had picked up 14 wickets in eight Test matches for India in the year 2021.

“But I feel for somebody like Ishant Sharma, who has played over 100 Tests and taken over 300 wickets, I don’t think that is right. So, somewhere I feel he will take a call after the South Africa series. I am sure, he must be thinking about this too," said Jaffer.

'I think he has played his last Test': Wasim Jaffer makes bold claim on Indian pacer's future

Virat Kohli is all set to make his comeback in the series-deciding third Test against South Africa at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Kohli had missed the second Test due to a back spasm but has managed to recover in time to lead the visitors in the final game of the three-match series which gets underway from Wednesday (January 11).

After comprehensively winning the series-opener in Centurion, India lost the second Test in Johannesburg by seven wickets as the Proteas levelled the series 1-1. With Kohli's return, India is all set to be handed a massive boost in their pursuit of a maiden Test series win in South Africa.

In Kohli's absence, KL Rahul had led the Indian team in the second Test. Kohli will be making his comeback in Cape Town to make his 99th Test appearance for India. The Indian skipper will be eyeing a couple of elusive milestones with the willow in the series-decider against the Proteas. Here is a look at the feats Kohli can achieve in the third Test -

8000 runs in Tests

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is just 146 runs away from becoming the sixth Indian batsman and the 31st overall to achieve the feat of 8,000 runs in Test cricket. Kohli needs to be among the runs in both innings of the Cape Town Test to breach the 8000-run mark in whites for the country.

Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Rahul Dravid (13265), Sunil Gavaskar (10122), VVS Laxman (8781) and Virender Sehwag (8503) are the only other Indian batsmen to have achieved the feat of 8,000 or more runs in the longest format of the game.

2nd most centuries in international cricket

Kohli has not scored a century for over two years and will be looking to bring an end to his drought in the final Test against South Africa this week. The Indian skipper currently has 70 centuries in international cricket and is just one century short of matching Ricky Ponting on the second spot in the list of most centuries in international cricket.

Kohli has so far scored 27 tons in Tests and a century in the Cape Town Test will also see him surpass the likes of Allan Border and Graeme Smith on the list of batsmen with most centuries in Test cricket.

Virat Kohli eyes twin milestones as he gears up for comeback in 3rd Test against South Africa in Cape Town

Indian captain Virat Kohli hit the nets in Cape Town on Sunday (November 09) ahead of the start of the third and final Test match against South Africa. Kohli had missed the second Test against the Proteas in Johannesburg as the visitors slipped to a seven-wicket defeat. Kohli had to sit out due to a back spasm.

However, the Indian skipper seems to have recovered from the back issue as he was seen enjoying some batting practice at the Newlands on Sunday. Kohli is likely to make his comeback in the playing XI and lead the team in the third and final Test which will be a series-decider between the two teams.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a few pictures from India's training session in Cape Town ahead of the third Test where Kohli was seen focused while batting in the nets. Earlier, India head coach Rahul Dravid had said Kohli was on track for recovery and will be fine after a couple of training sessions.

Virat Kohli returns to nets as Team India gears up for series-decider against South Africa in Cape Town

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg recently named the best batsman and the bowler of the year 2021 while speaking in a video on his YouTube channel. Hogg rated Indian spinner R Ashwin as the best bowler of 2021 for his consistent performances throughout the year and his heroics across all formats of the game. 2021 was a memorable year for Ashwin as he made his comeback in the Indian T20I side after a wait of over four years.

Ashwin was named in India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 and has since not looked back as he continues his impressive run. While talking about the best bowlers of the year gone by, Hogg said Ashwin was the number one. He also reserved special praise of Pakistan pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali, who both enjoyed a magnificent year with the ball and were among the wickets for their national team.

While Ashwin was the highest wicket-taker in Tests with 54 scalps to his name in nine matches, Shaheen finished with 47 wickets in as many games. Hasan picked up 41 wickets for Pakistan in eight matches and was exceptional throughout the year in the longest format.

“Spin to win, he’s the number 1. Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali, 47 and 41 wickets for them (respectively). They have been carrying Pakistan in the bowling department, so you can’t beat those 2," Hogg said in the video.

While he picked Ashwin as the best bowler of the year 2021, Hogg named England skipper Joe Root as the best batter of the year. Root had a tremendous 2021 as he finished the year as the highest run-getter in Tests with 1708 runs from 15 matches. He has been the lone warrior for England in the ongoing Ashes 2021-22.

Root failed to inspire England to victory in the Ashes 2021-22 but has managed to continue his good form with the bat. He is the top scorer for England so far in the five-match series with 277 runs from four matches. However, England have lost the Ashes 3-0 with three defeats and a draw in the four matches so far.

KL Rahul led India in the second Test against South Africa at The Wanderers in Johannesburg after Virat Kohli was ruled out of the game due to a back spasm. It was Rahul's debut Test as the captain of the Indian team as he failed to inspire the visitors to a victory against the Proteas. India lost the Test match by seven wickets after failing to defend the total of 239 runs during South Africa's second innings.

With the win, South Africa levelled the three-match series 1-1 making the final third Test a decider for both teams. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir reckoned India missed regular skipper Kohli in the second Test not just as a batter but also as a leader. Gambhir explained why batters like Kohli can't be replaced by anyone despite them undergoing a rough patch with the willow.

"We definitely missed Virat Kohli the batsman. Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Rohit Sharma, these are the type of batters you miss. And it is difficult to find their replacement, no matter what form they are in, because the expectation remains that they will score those big runs," said Gambhir on Star Sports.

"But Kohli the captain, we missed him as well because he is so experienced and things turn simpler for experienced captains because they have been around for long,” he added.

In the series-opener, Kohli had failed to notch up big scores with the bat but was exceptional as a captain on the pitch as he powered the visitors to a thumping win to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Gambhir believes Rahul will need time to learn and should be a quick learner as Test cricket is not as easy as ODIs and T20Is.

"But KL Rahul, the more time he spends, the better he will learn, but the faster he learns the better it is. This is not like ODI or T20I captaincy, which is far easier because you don't have to focus much on-field placements. In Test cricket you need to buy the wickets, sometimes even gamble with your choices," said the former India opener.

'Difficult to find a replacement': Gambhir explains why India missed Kohli in Johannesburg Test against SA

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has endured a lean patch in international cricket for a while now as he continues to wait for his 71st century. Kohli had last scored a hundred for India in the Pink-ball Test against Bangladesh in 2019 and has since not managed to breach the triple-figure mark even once across all three formats of the game.

His form with the willow has been questionable as Kohli has struggled to score runs consistently. In the ongoing Test series against South Africa, the batting maestro was expected to hit the ground running from the first Test in Centurion. However, he failed to get going and was dismissed cheaply in both innings.

Kohli scored 35 and 18 runs in the two innings of the first Test against the Proteas before missing the second game due to a back spasm. The Indian Test skipper has averaged only 26.07 in the 14 Test matches that he has played in the last two years with 652 runs to his name.

However, Kohli has recieved backing from Australian opener David Warner, who believes it's only about time that Kohli gets back to his old rhythm. Lauding Kohli for the high standards he has set for himself with his performances in the past, Warner said he has earned the right to fail because he is so good at what he does.

Warner also explained how the coronavirus pandemic and playing in bio-bubbles for long period might have taken a toll on Kohli's performances. He also highlighted the fact that Kohli had become a father last year and has not had much spare time to be with his family due to busy cricketing schedule.

"We have to understand Kohli’s situation too. The guy has been playing under a bubble for a long time. He has just become a father and rarely gets to see his daughter and wife. All these factors affect performance of the players. Even the best fail to cope up with tough situations sometimes," Warner said on the show Backstage with Boria.

"A lot of people talk about Virat Kohli's form over the last couple of years. We've gone through a pandemic. He has just had a baby. We only see how well he has done. You are allowed to fail. You are allowed to fail, you earn the right to fail when you are so good at what you do," he added.

Kohli is no more India's captain in the limited-overs formats and has a significant burden taken off his shoulders. He would be looking to make the most of it and bounce back to good form in the Indian team's ongoing tour of South Africa.

Former Australia head coach John Buchanan feels the Australian team was hurt and the players' egos were dented after their loss against India in the Test series at home last year. Ajinkya Rahane-led India had defeated Australia 2-1 in the four-match series to script history as the visitors pulled off their second successive Test series win on Australian soil.

Despite missing some of the senior members of the side, including skipper Virat Kohli and the likes of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and KL Rahul among others, a second-fiddle Indian side had stunned Australia in their own backyard after breaching the hosts' fortress - The Gabba in the fourth and final Test.

Buchanan feels it was a demoralising series loss for the Australian team which inspired them to regroup together and work harder for future challenges. Buchanan revealed how Australia's head coach Justin Langer was more excited about the planning and preparation that had gone into making their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign a successful one than the victory itself.

"There’s little doubt that the loss to India at home hurt the team, dented egos, and threatened positions of players and support staff. But turning a team around takes time, and it takes some painful lessons as well. Talking with Justin (Langer) after the T20 World Cup, he was almost more thrilled about the planning and preparation that went into the tournament than winning the tournament itself," Buchanan was quoted as saying by Telegraph.

Australia have been on a redemption journey since their T20 World Cup triumph as they have continued their stellar run in the ongoing Ashes 2021-22 against England at home. Australia have already clinched the five-match series with three back-to-back wins in the first three Tests and are currently on the verge of winning the fourth Test in Sydney.

The fourth Test in Sydney is currently evenly poised, however, Australia have a slighter edge with England needing 358 runs to win on Day 5 to pull off an unlikely win. Buchanan criticised England's tactics and selections in the Ashes this year and said their results in the past couple of years suggest that they are not a good Test side.

“England have been woeful, although a quick look at their results in the longest format over the past two-three years will reveal that they are not a good side. They rely heavily on (Joe) Root, (Ben) Stokes, (James) Anderson and (Stuart) Broad. They have no opening combination with a fragile middle order, and so choose (Jos) Buttler and (Jonny) Bairstow rather than (Ben) Foakes, who is the best ’keeper. Besides, their bowling attack needs conditions in its favour in order to look dangerous," said the two-time World Cup-winning coach.

"Some of their selections on this tour so far seem ludicrous. For instance, the decision to not play Anderson and Broad in Brisbane in bowler-friendly conditions. And you do that in the first Test of a series," he added.

Rishabh Pant has been criticised by many for 'throwing his wicket away' in India's second innings of the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. Pant was dismissed for a duck in the second innings as India lost the Test match by seven wickets after setting up a target of 240 runs for the hosts in their second innings.

Pant had walked into bat at no.6 after the quick departures of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara with India at 163/4. Pant was expected to steady the ship for the visitors and build a partnership with Hanuma Vihari, who was out in the middle. However, the left-handed ended up getting caught by Kyle Verreynne on the third delivery he faced.

Pant tried to step out and smash Rabada but ended up edging one to the South African wicket-keeper, who made no mistakes with the catch. His approach left many baffled, including former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup-winner Madan Lal, who believes the young wicket-keeper should be rested.

Pant has been playing continuous cricket for India since the IPL 2020 and has been a regular across formats for the team. Lal wants India to give him a break and give senior keeper Wriddhiman Saha a chance in the series-deciding third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

“He should be given a break. And you have someone like Wriddhiman Saha. He is a sensible batsman. He is a very good wicketkeeper. But Pant has to decide how he wants to bat in Test cricket. If there is some doubt in his mind, it is better to give him a break," Lal said during an interaction on Aaj Tak.

"He is a match-winning player, but you cannot bat like this. You have to bat for the team and not for yourself,” the former all-rounder added.

KL Rahul made his captaincy debut for India in Tests as he led the visitors in the second Test against South Africa at The Wanderers in Johannesburg. Rahul was asked to lead the side in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, who had to sit out of the Test match due to a back spasm.

Rahul failed to inspire India to a victory but the visitors put on a strong fight in the game against the Proteas before going down by seven wickets. While many welcomed the decision to appoint Rahul as captain in Kohli's absence, former India batsman Wasim Jaffer believes Rahul should not have been handed the captaincy.

Jaffer said he was surprised by the Indian team management's decision to go with Rahul as the captain of the side despite someone like Ajinkya Rahane being there in the squad. Rahane's form of late has been questionable but he has a tremendous record as the captain of the Test side and is yet to lose a game as captain in the longest format.

“I am surprised by the team management. When you have someone as good as Ajinkya Rahane available who has not lost any Test as a captain and won you a Test series in Australia, do you need to give the Test captaincy to KL Rahul?” Jaffer was quoted as saying by Insidesport.

“I have nothing against KL Rahul. He is young and has captained the Punjab Kings. People are thinking about him as a future captain. But I think Rahane should have led the side in Kohli’s absence,” he added.

Jaffer reckoned India missed Kohli on the field as the captain brings in a lot of aggressiveness and positive intent with him. India failed to defend the total of 239 runs during South Africa's second innings as Proteas skipper Dean Elgar played a gritty knock of unbeaten 96 to take them home in the run-chase.

“India definitely missed Virat Kohli, the captain, because he brings so much aggression to the field. When you have such a player on the field, you know you will be held accountable if you make a mistake. So, they missed that energy,” Jaffer said.

KL Rahul-led India fought hard but lost the second and penultimate Test versus South Africa at The Wanderers, Johannesburg on Thursday (January 06). As Day 4 resumed with India needing 8 more wickets whereas Dean Elgar-led Proteas were 122 runs away from their 240-run target, Rahul & Co. managed to take only one more wicket as Elgar's 96 not out propelled the home side to a seven-wicket win.

With this, the series is now levelled at 1-1 with one more Test to go. While India returned with a lot of positives, such as competing hard sans regular captain Virat Kohli, the all-round performance of Shardul Thakur and middle-order getting some runs courtesy Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane, the former Indian keeper-batsman and ex-selector Saba Karim feels head coach Rahul Dravid has lots to do to inspire the national team to their maiden Test series win on African soil.

South Africa defeated India by seven wickets in the second Test of the ongoing three-match series at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday to level the series 1-1. It was a thrilling encounter between the two sides with both teams giving their all on the pitch.

The Test match also saw a number of heated exchanges and clashes between the players from the two sides as plenty of drama was on offer throughout the course of the game.

While the on-field sledges and chatter between the players garnered a lot of attention on social media, on-field umpire Marais Erasmus was also spotted enjoying banter on the field with the Indian players. The incident happened during Day 3 when South Africa's second innings was underway in Johannesburg.

During the tenth over of South Africa's innings, Indian pacer Shardul Thakur burst into two big appeals before finally managing to dismiss Aiden Markram on the last ball of the over. As action intensified on the pitch, Erasmus could also feel the heat and was heard poking fun at the Indian players.

“You guys are giving me a bloody heart attack after every over," Erasmus was heard saying on the stump mic after the end of Thakur's over where he got rid of Markram. The video of the incident soon went viral on social media.

Earlier during the day's play, Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant had a heated argument with Rassie van der Dussen over his controversial catch of the South Africa batter on Day 2 of the Test match. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was also seen getting involved in a heated exchange with South Africa's Marco Jansen.

KL Rahul-led India lost the second and penultimate Test versus South Africa on a rain-marred Day 4 at The Wanderers, Johannesburg on Thursday (January 6). The first two sessions got washed out due to rain break and wet outfield, however, Rahul & Co. lost the encounter in a jiffy when the match resumed with the Proteas needing 122 more runs (in pursuit of 240) and visitors in search of 8 wickets.

While many thought the overcast conditions would favour the bowlers, SA captain Dean Elgar produced a gutsy and unbeaten 96-run knock to lead his troops from the front and take his side to a series-levelling seven-wicket win in J'burg. This became India's first-ever loss at the venue in the purest format. While Rahul & Co. did compete very well and remained in the contest despite being all-out for 202 in the first innings, the visitors missed their regular captain Virat Kohli's presence throughout the Test.

Sharing an update on Kohli -- who missed the second Test due to upper back spasm -- head coach Rahul Dravid said in a virtual press conference, "Virat Kohli should be fine from all accounts, he should be fine. He has had the opportunity to run around a little bit, he has had the opportunity to test it a little bit. Hopefully with a couple of net sessions in Cape Town, he should be good to go. When asked about his take on India's batting performance in the series so far, Dravid said: "It has been challenging wickets for both the teams, South Africa's fourth innings was probably their best with the bat. Yes, as a batting unit we can look to seize a few key moments and when we get partnerships, we can look to make them longer. It was challenging in the first innings but we could have gotten 55-60 runs more which could have made a huge difference."

"Certainly, we would like to bat a little better. Maybe the guys who got starts could have converted them into 100s. That was the difference in the first game, we had Rahul scoring century for us and we ended up on the winning side. Dean Elgar scored 96 in this Test and South Africa ended up on the winning side," he added.

So far, India have managed scores of 327, 174, 202 and 266 in the four outings with the willow in the series. Thus, the batters will have to step up and perform if India have to win their maiden Test series on South African soil

For the unversed, the third and final Test will commence on January 11 at Newlands, Cape Town. Ahead of the series finale, the Indian camp is positive of Kohli's full recovery as the 33-year-old missed his first-ever Test since 2017 due to injury concerns.

Everything I am hearing and just having a chat with him, he should be good to go in four days time." Will Virat Kohli regain fitness for India vs SA 3rd Test? Head coach Rahul Dravid provides BIG update

Sunil Gavaskar had lashed out at Rishabh Pant for his poor shot selection on Day 3 of the second and penultimate Test between India and South Africa, at The Wanderers, Johannesburg, on Wednesday (February 05). Coming out to bat after India had lost both their overnight batters -- half-centurions Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane -- in their second essay, Pant had a job in hand to resurrect the innings with Hanuma Vihari and stretch the lead beyond 200.

However, nothing of that sort happened as Pant fell for a three-ball duck. The swashbuckling left-hander danced down the track and took on Kagiso Rabada, however, he failed to connect as he got a thick edge and was caught cleanly by the keeper. Thus, Gavaskar slammed Pant's approach and shot selection while on commentary duties and once again during The Byju's Cricket Live Show on Star Sports..

Gavaskar said, "It's a valid question. This is something one could understand if Rishabh Pant had been batting on 30 and 40. This is something he had not done in Australia. There he applied himself, recognised that there will be hard times at the beginning when you come in to bat and then battling through the hard times, he got set and got to know how the pitch is. And then he played the big shots. That's what he did in Australia."

Even former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir slammed Pant after the end of the third day's play and told on Star Sports, "It’s foolishness. Even if he (Rishabh Pant) had got a six off the ball, he shouldn’t have played the shot."

"Unbelievable, you will call that stupidity and not bravery. The way Rahane and Pujara got you back in this Test match, you have given it back to South Africa. This is not Test cricket. There is a very thin line to call yourself brave. If you had hit a six as well with that shot, you would still not have called that an excellent shot. Test cricket is all about handling pressure and you knew that Rabada was bowling his fourth or fifth over," Gambhir added.

Dravid must have given him a hearing: Gavaskar on Rishabh Pant's shot selection on Day 3 of J'burg Test

Indian fans were in for a shock when they saw KL Rahul come out for the coin toss for the second and penultimate Test between Team India and South Africa, at The Wanderers, Johannesburg on Monday (January 3). The regular captain Virat Kohli missed out due to upper back spasm. Thus, it became the first Test that the 33-year-old Kohli missed due to injury concerns, since the Dharamshala Test versus Australia in early 2017.

With India being on the cusp of winning their first-ever Test series in South Africa, Kohli would've been gutted to warm the bench as Hanuma Vihari got a chance in his place for the second Test in J'burg. Former Indian batter-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar opened up on Kohli's omission and said he was 'absolutely shocked' to see the star batter miss out.

Manjrekar, speaking to ESPNCricinfo, admitted that all kinds of thoughts went through his head when he came to know that Kohli won't be part of the J'burg Test.

“I was absolutely shocked when I read that KL Rahul is walking out for the toss. All kinds of thoughts came over my mind. Various thoughts, but who would’ve thought that an injury to Virat Kohli because he’s one of those guys who never ever miss a Test match. And considering that India is in a great position to win and make history, it’s really unfortunate. It seems he’s really hurting. Shocking in many ways because it’s a surprise. And a batting setback as well despite his form.” Manjrekar said in the preview session.

On the other hand, Manjrekar also was thrilled to see Rahul's stocks rise in recent times due to his rich vein of form and the batter was rewarded to lead the side in Kohli's absence. In this regard, the former cricketer said, "There’s something about Test match performances. You have Rohit Sharma who had a great Test series vs ENG. Immediately after that, he became a captaincy candidate. If not for his injury, he would’ve captained this match,” he said.

“Test match performances really help the credibility of a player and KL Rahul’s performance in England and his 100 recently has contributed to his rise and stature in the team. Seen this with Rohit Sharma and now with KL Rahul. And this is all to do with the hard work that they put in, in England,” he added.

For the unversed, Rahul will also lead India in the three ODIs in South Africa, after the Test series, as limited-overs skipper Rohit has been ruled out due to hamstring issues.

Talking about Day 1 of the second Test, India won the toss and managed only a paltry 202 in the first innings. In reply, SA went to stumps at 35-1 as Rahul & Co. have a stiff task to prevent the Proteas from dictating terms in the penultimate Test.

India's domestic cricket schedule was thrown into chaos on Tuesday when the BCCI decided to postpone major tournaments including Ranji Trophy and the Col CK Naidu Trophy due to a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

With as many as six members of the Bengal contingent including five players testing positive along with a few Mumbai players, it was inevitable that the blue riband tournament beginning January 13 had to be shelved indefinitely.

"The Ranji Trophy & Col C K Nayudu Trophy were scheduled to begin this month while the Senior Women's T20 League was scheduled to commence in February," BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated in a press release.

Shah said that BCCI didn't want to compromise on the health of its players, support staff and match officials which is the reason that for the second year in a row that the red ball competition in all probability will not be held.

"The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly," Shah added.

The BCCI had formed six separate bio-bubbles in six different cities with multiple grounds -- Ahmedabad, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata.

In fact, Mumbai team had arrived in Kolkata and then their out of favour India all-rounder Shivam Dube tested positive and had to be isolated.

CAB secretary Avishek Dalmiya had been admitted to a city nursing home as a precautionary measure after testing positive.

The situation is grim across all the major cities with Delhi recording 5481 cases on Tuesday while Mumbai had 10,860 new cases with hundreds of them being affected by new Omicron variant.

Bengal has seen a single day highest ever rise of 9073 cases as per state's health department. Shah on his part thanked all the stakeholders for being able to organise more than 700 matches across all age-groups during the season.

"BCCI thanks and continues to appreciate the efforts of the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, match officials and all the service providers who put their best foot forward to host more than 700 matches across 11 tournaments in the current 2021-22 domestic season," he said. BCCI postpones Ranji Trophy and other domestic tournaments amid COVID-19 surge

India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant achieved an elusive feat in the ongoing second Test against South Africa at The Wanderers in Johannesburg on Tuesday (January 04). Pant etched his name in history books as he became the fourth Indian wicket-keeper to complete hundred catches in Test cricket, joining MS Dhoni in an elite list.

Pant achieved the feat on Day 2 of the second Test as he completed 100 catches after taking Lungi Ngidi's catch which also brought an end to South Africa's second innings. Pant took Ngidi's catch off Shardul Thakur's bowling to reach the 100-catch mark in Test cricket joining Dhoni, Syed Kirmani and Kiran More in the list of Indian keepers with 100 or more catches in Test cricket.

Pant is the 42nd wicket-keeper overall to reach the milestone of 100 catches in Test cricket. Dhoni has the most catches by an Indian wicket-keeper in the longest format with 256 catches to his name. He is followed by Syed Kirmani (160) and Kiran More (110).

Pant now has the 4th highest catches for India in Test cricket and the left-handed keeper has achieved the feat in 26 Tests as he continues his prolific run behind the stumps. Pant has been in fine form as a keeper and has also been brilliant with the bat for India in the last couple of years in the longest format.

Talking about Day 2's play, Shardul Thakur picked up an impressive seven-wicket haul to run through the South African batting line-up in Johannesburg. India bundled out the hosts for 229 runs before posting 85/2 at stumps to take a 58-run lead in their second innings of the second Test.

India will be looking to extend their lead on Day 3 and post a strong target for the hosts as they stand one win away from clinching the three-match Test series.

Rishabh Pant joins MS Dhoni in elite list with elusive feat in Johannesburg Test against South Africa

Unheralded seam bowler Shardul Thakur turned out to be an unlikely hero with a career-best 7 for 61 to keep India on an even keel against South Africa on an intriguing second day of the second Test here on Tuesday. Standing at 5 feet 7 inches and with a physique that is an antithesis of what is perceived to be a fast bowler's body, the skiddy Thakur (17.5-3-61-7) landed crucial blows at opportune moments to send the Proteas packing for 229 in their first innings.

It was his effort that nullified India's seemingly inadequate first innings score of 202 with the lead being restricted to 27 and then erased by visitors as they reached 85 for 2 at stumps, losing stand-in skipper KL Rahul (8) and Mayank Agarwal's (23) wicket.

The two under-fire seniors Cheteshwar Pujara (35 batting) and Ajinkya Rahane (11 batting) were at the crease and for a change showed lot of positivity and intent. India now lead by 58 runs. Shardul means 'Tiger' in Sanskrit and his teammates teasingly call him 'Lord Beefy' which incidentally is legendary all-rounder Ian Botham's nickname.

The 'Tiger' was in a mood to hunt inside the 'Bull Ring' under sunny the Johannesburg skyline and he did exactly that, coming up with a performance which is over and above what even coach Rahul Dravid would have expected.

On a pitch with spongy, tennis ball like bounce, a total of 180 to 200 will be an onerous fourth innings chase for South Africa as the match is expected to end well within four days if the weather doesn't play spoilsport.

The day started nicely for South Africa as their dogged skipper Dean Elgar (28 off 120 balls) was happy to play the ugly waiting game while allowing his younger colleague Keegan Peterson (62 off 118 balls) to play an attacking role.

It was going well in a stand of 74 as South Africa reached 88 for one before Thakur was brought into the attack in the 34th over as the second change. With Mohammed Siraj bowling from a shorter run-up and not able to exert himself fully due to a hamstring injury, the man from Maharashtra's Palghar district had to take more responsibility with the team virtually one bowler short.

Mohammed Shami (2/52 in 21 overs) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/49 in 21 overs) once again bowled their hearts out, beat the outside edges without much luck before Thakur came into the picture and dealt three blows in quick succession just before lunch.

Thakur, when he burst into the domestic scene, was more of a 135 kmph plus bowler but over the years, he is bowling in the 120-130 kmph band but possesses a mean outswinger and a lethal off-cutter delivered with scrambled seam and grip of a slower delivery.

In case of a scrambled seam, the stitched part of the ball doesn't hit the ground and if the ball's shine is maintained well, which the Indian team did diligently, it lands on the skin (red part) and starts skidding at a pace which is more than what the batters can apprehend.

"Since he has a habit of bowling a lot of off-breaks (slower delivery for pacers with tweak of finger) in limited overs cricket, he is using that skill effectively in Tests also. He might bowl at 130 kmph but with the scrambled seam, he hurries the batter a touch more)," his childhood coach Dinesh Lad told PTI from Mumbai.

The delivery that got Peterson was a conventional outswinger which wasn't at drivable length and the batter went for a non-existent punch through covers only to land in second slip Agarwal's palms. Before that, Peterson's left-handed skipper Elgar got one that moved late taking the outside edge.

Similarly, in the second session, just when Temba Bavuma (51 off 60 balls) and Kyle Verreynne (21) added 58 and looked like heading for a sizeable lead, Thakur produced a fuller one with scrambled seam that landed on the 'fifth off stump' and cut back sharply to trap the young keeper leg before.

In case of Bavuma, the delivery was fired towards his rib cage and was drifting down before Rishabh Pant took an extraordinary catch down the leg-side. He again came back in the final session to wrap up the innings.

Thakur doesn't have the lethal yorker of Bumrah or the top quality skill sets of Shami or the scorching pace of Siraj. But he is more than the sum total of his parts, in this case the skills which make him special.

Out of Shardul's seven wickets, the dismissal of Rassie van der Dussen did create some controversy as TV replays turned out to be inconclusive whether Thakur's off-cutter, that literally had the batter cut into half, was taken cleanly by Pant.

One angle seemed to suggest that it was picked on the bounce and it was learnt that home team captain Elgar visited the match referee's room to have a chat.

In 2011, Mahendra Singh Dhoni in an exemplary show of sportsmanship had called back Ian Bell after the batter was adjudged run-out in the post lunch session.

On Tuesday, with match hanging in balance, no such favours were doled out by the current team.

IND vs SA, 2nd Test: Shardul Thakur takes 7-for to bring India back in game, visitors 85/2 at stumps

Shardul Thakur bowled a fiery spell on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between India and South Africa at The Wanderers in Johannesburg as he ran through the Proteas batting line-up with a five-wicket haul. 'It's Lord Shardul Thakur vs South Africa': Twitter erupts as Indian pacer bags fifer in Johannesburg Test

South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen was dismissed controversially on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against India at The Wanderers in Johannesburg on Tuesday. Van der Dussen was caught behind by Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant off the bowling of Shardul Thakur during the Proteas' first innings.

The dismissal took place in the final over before lunch on Day 2 as Thakur bowled a short delivery that beat Van der Dussen's defence and flew towards Pant after taking a thick edge off his bat. Umpire Marais Erasmus gave it out as the right-hander walked back to the dressing room.

However, a controversy erupted on social media as the replays later showed Pant had not taken the catch cleanly behind the stumps. In the replays, it can be spotted that the ball had touched the ground before landing in Pant's gloves after taking an edge of Van der Dussen's bat.

South Africa captain Dean Elgar and team manager Khomotso Masubelele reportedly had a chat with the umpires during the lunch break to discuss the controversial dismissal. However, Erasmus's decision stayed despite the replays suggesting that the ball had touched the ground before Pant caught it.

Out or not out? Rassie van der Dussen's dismissal in 2nd Test against India sparks controversy - WATCH

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020. While he had a stellar career for Team India, Dhoni continued to make heads turn by being very grounded as far as his lifestyle is concerned. Not many know that the 40-year-old drove Team India's bus during Australia's 2008 tour of India.

Yes, Dhoni drove the team bus without any qualms and the entire incident was narrated by former Indian Test specialist VVS Laxman. In his autobiography, Laxman revealed the whole episode and was stunned to see the national team's full-time captain drive the team bus during the Nagpur Test between India and Australia in 2008.

“One of my abiding memories is of MS (Dhoni) driving the team bus to the hotel in Nagpur, during my 100th Test. I couldn’t believe my eyes — the captain of the team driving us back from the ground! It was his first Test in charge after Anil’s (Kumble) retirement, and he didn’t seem to have a care in the world. But he was like that, playful and grounded. MS never lost the joy, the playfulness. I have never met anyone quite like him,” Laxman wrote in his autobiography ‘281 and Beyond.’

For the unversed, Dhoni-led India won the Nagpur Test, in 2008, by 172 runs to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home (their first series win over Aussies in eight years) by 2-0. It was the 100th Test for Laxman and the last for Sourav Ganguly. Anil Kumble had retired after the third and penultimate Test, making Dhoni Team India captain in all forms of the game.

Laxman further also revealed that Dhoni was never someone who would lose his cool even when the national side was under-performing in the purest format, in away series, post the 2011 ODI World Cup win. "MS Dhoni’s calmness and equanimity are legendary. He had seen nothing but success until the tour of England in 2011. We had lost 4–0 in England and had already lost the first three Tests in Australia by the end of that year, and were heading for another whitewash. I was a mess, as were most of the guys, but MS was unbelievably composed. Not once did he lash out, and at no stage did he give the impression that he was frustrated or helpless,” Laxman further wrote.

THROWBACK: When Dhoni drove the team bus after succeeding Kumble to become India's all-format captain

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has opened up on Test captain Virat Kohli's mode of dismissals in recent times. For the unversed, the 33-year-old Indian batter hasn't been able to score an international ton since late 2019 and averages only 26.08 in Tests since early 2020.

Hence, Chopra opened up on Kohli's failures, who is out of the ongoing second Test between India and South Africa at The Wanderers, Johannesburg. The 33-year-old Kohli didn't impress even in the series opener of the three-match Tests versus SA, returning with scores of 35 and 18. In addition, his dismissals were identical by flashing away from the off-stump line.

I'm not saying go down that road because Sachin had more shots as compared to Virat but then, this is the recipe."

"I don't think Kohli has too much of an issue playing the bouncers. It's just about knowing where your off-stump is. Trusting the bounce a little more so you can leave the ball a little more. It doesn't necessarily have to be on line. You don't even need to misread the line; you're not going to get bowled because the ball will be going over the stumps," added Chopra.

SRT had more shots as compared to Kohli: Aakash Chopra weighs-in on Indian Test captain's dismissals

A lot has been said and written about the struggles of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. The two Test specialists have been under-performing with the bat for quite some time and their low scores in the ongoing second Test's first innings has intensified the talks for the duo's omissions.

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra, however, feels the two senior batters need to be persisted with for the entire three-match Test series versus South Africa. Nehra further pointed out that even someone of a stature of Virat Kohli hasn't done well with the bat. Kohli averages 26.08 in Tests since early 2020 whereas the average of likes of Rahane and Pujara also hovers around 25 during the same period.

"Even Virat Kohli has similar numbers but people are not questioning his place in the team. Obviously, he is the captain and what Kohli has done is on a completely different level from the two batters we are talking about. It is not fair to compare, but Rahane and Pujara have also been second to none at their peak, especially the latter,” Nehra told Cricbuzz.

Nehra further added, "If you have backed a player like Rahane for the 1st Test, it would be better to carry on with him for the rest of the series. Obviously, Rahane was the one who was out (officially due to injury) when Kohli came back for the second Test against New Zealand, though he led the team in the first.

"Agreed, both Pujara and Rahane have been in big trouble of late. But changing players in the middle of an important series is a big decision," he asserted further.

For the unversed, Rahane has scored only two half-centuries following his last Test ton in the MCG Test in late 2020. On the other hand, Pujara's last hundred came in early 2019 and, hence, both the cricketers are running against time to hold onto their respective spots in whites.

Needless to say, both Rahane and Pujara will have to score big in India's second innings of the ongoing J'burg Test or will soon perish from the Test line-up.

A lot has been said and written about the struggles of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. The two Test specialists have been under-performing with the bat for quite some time and their low scores in the ongoing second Test's first innings has intensified the talks for the duo's omissions.

Ashwin revealed the medical team is currently assessing the fast bowler's injury it remains uncertain whether he will take the field on Day 2 or not.

Siraj pulled his hamstring while bowling the final delivery of the fourth over during South Africa's first innings in Johannesburg. He was seen in immense pain and looked in discomfort during his bowling run-up. He was immediately attended to by the physio on the field before hobbling off the ground.

Siraj's injury will be assessed overnight to determine if he will be fit to bowl on Day 2. Ashwin is hopeful of Siraj recovering quickly from the hamstring injury and giving his best for the visitors.

"I asked before going if I could talk about it. Medical staff are assessing him overnight. I am hoping with the history of Siraj that he can come out and give his best," Ashwin told reporters post stumps on Day 1.

India were bundled out for 202 runs in their first innings as the middle-order failed to dliver yet again with the likes of Ajinkya Rahane (0) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3) disappointing. Captain KL Rahul led from the front in Virat Kohli's absence with a gritty 50 off 133 balls.

Former South Africa star Herschelle Gibbs took a brutal dig at the Proteas fast bowlers during Day 1 of the ongoing second Test between the hosts and India at The Wanderers in Johannesburg on Monday. Gibbs criticised the Proteas fast bowlers for failing to generate much pace during the start of India's innings on Day 1.

Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier opened the bowling for South Africa as India won the toss and opted to bat first in the game. Rabada and Olivier failed to trouble the Indian openers - KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal at the start of the visitors' innings before Marco Jansen got rid of Mayank Agarwal on 26 off 37 balls.

Gibbs took to Twitter to take a dig at the South African pacers, stating how they were even failing to clock 135km on average while commentator Pommie Mbangwa was stressing on air for the South Africans to build pressure on the Indian batters.

"Both opening bowlers for proteas not even hitting 135km on average and Pommy talking about imposing yourself," Gibbs wrote in a tweet.

While South African pacers didn't get off to a good start, they bounced back brilliantly in the latter part of the day. After Agarwal's departure on 26 off 37 balls, India lost Cheteshwar Pujara (3) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) in quick succession while Hanuma Vihari (17) and Rishabh Pant (17) were also dismissed cheaply.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane's saga of failures compounded a shoddy batting performance by India even as stand-in skipper KL Rahul impressed with a defiant show amid the ruins on the opening day of the second Test against South Africa here on Monday.

Rahul's patient 50-run knock on a day when India missed Virat Kohli due to back spasms and Ravichandran Ashwin's cavalier 46 at the rear end ensured that India scored 202 in their first innings on a bouncy Wanderers track.

At stumps, Mohammed Shami sent back Aiden Markram even as Dean Elgar (11 batting) and Keegan Peterson (14 batting) took South Africa to 35 for 1. It could have been two down had Rishabh Pant snapped Peterson off Jasprit Bumrah, which seemed a regulation catch.

Worse, Mohammed Siraj hobbled off with what looked like a hamstring strain and if it's bad news, then India would be left with four bowlers.

However, a lot of blame should go to India's batters as some like Pujara didn't show intent to score while others like Rahane seemed completely short of confidence.

It prompted the legendary Sunil Gavaskar to say it as it is on air, "I think the next innings will be their last chance."
Having given up hopes to play for England, Duanne Olivier (3/67 in 17 overs), playing his first game for South Africa in three years, dismissed Pujara (3 off 33 balls) and Rahane (0) off successive deliveries to make it difficult for the Indians.

Marco Jansen (4/31 in 17 overs), with his giant frame, created awkward lengths for every Indian batter while Kagiso Rabada (3/64 in 17.1 overs), despite not being at his best, got wickets when it mattered.

In his first game as captain, Rahul concentrated hard as he played 133 deliveries. He was peppered with short balls. He would sway to some and duck the others while pulling the ones that he could.

His back-foot driving was majestic and he rode the bounce while going for the flashy cut shots. Such is beauty of sport that Rahul, who till five months ago wasn't supposed to start as an opener in England, is now being groomed as an all-format India captain.

If the first day composure is any indication, he won't do a bad job. But then there was a moment's indiscretion when he played one pull shot too many and holed out in the fine leg region.

Prior to that shot, the occasional pull that he played, Rahul rolled his bat over and tried to keep it down the ground but in this case, he got under the Jansen short ball and didn't get the required elevation.

He had a nice little partnership of 42 runs with Hanuma Vihari (20) before an inspirational close-in catch from Rassie Van der Dussen at short leg sent the latter back.

Rishabh Pant (17) and an attacking Ashwin (24 batting 21 balls) added 40 in quick time but what India needed was a partnership of at least 75 if not 100.

At the start, Mayank Agarwal (26) looked fluent in the first hour with five boundaries before Jansen pitched one in the spot from where it wasn't on drivable length as it climbed on. The opener went for a drive only to edge that to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

Rahul, on his part, survived strong caught behind and leg before appeals which were negated by debutant umpire Allahudien Palekar, someone who impressed on debut.

But what would disappoint Pujara and Rahane most is that on a day when they should have taken more responsibility in Kohli's absence, they couldn't even inject a sense of positivity in India's approach.

The manner in which Pujara hopped and skipped to rising deliveries actually would have made the dressing room feel jittery about demons in the pitch which wasn't the case. But there was definitely seam and bounce which one expects here in South Africa.

He once again got into a shell and was very uncomfortable against steep bounce which finally became his undoing.
Olivier's natural back of length deliveries were perfect recipe for disaster as he fended one that was wide of the short leg fielder but the next one lobbed up to the man at point for an easy catch.

Rahane's dismissal was that of a player, whose confidence has been torn to pieces. The ball pitched on the fourth stump channel, created indecision on whether to play or not and Rahane dangled his bat for the catch to be taken in the slips.

This match will certainly not last the distance and if they can't make a difference in the second innings, the enormous patience that the Indian team management has shown towards them will definitely start wearing thin.

Rahane, Pujara's flop show continues as Indian middle-order disappoints again in 2nd Test against SA

On Monday (January 3), Indian cricket loyalists were in for a shock when they saw KL Rahul walk out for the coin toss for the second Test between India and South Africa, at The Wanderers, Johannesburg. Regular captain Virat Kohli -- who was set to appear in his 99th Test -- missed out due to upper back spasm and Rahul (who was promoted as the vice-captain in Rohit Sharma's absence for the series) took charge of the side.

Winning the toss, Rahul-led India opted to bat first at The Wanderers, J'burg. While the national side started well, at 36 for no loss, they were soon reduced to 49-3. From thereon, it was hardwork for in-form opener Rahul to get to his 13th half-century amid regular fall of wickets. Rahul eventually fell to Marco Jansen's well-executed short-pitched delivery for a well-made 133-ball 50.

Courtesy his knock, the 29-year-old Rahul entered an elite list -- featuring the likes of Kohli, Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly, etc. -- to have scored 50 or more runs on captaincy debut. For the unversed, Vijay Hazare, who scored an unbeaten 164 in 1951, tops the list, followed by Sunil Gavaskar (116 runs) and Virat Kohli (115) on the second and third position respectively. Sourav Ganguly (84 runs), Chandu Borde (69), Hemu Adhikari (63) and Nari Contractor are also part of this unique club.

Meanwhile, Rahul became the fifth Indian captain to surpass the 50-run mark while opening the innings. Little Master Gavaskar (25 times), Contractor (4 times), current head coach Rahul Dravid (2) and Virender Sehwag (2) are also part of the elusive panel.

Ind vs SA, 2nd Test: Rahul joins elite list comprising Virat Kohli and Ganguly after 50 on captaincy debut

Hanuma Vihari was sent packing after a stunning catch from Rassie van der Dussen in the ongoing second Test between India and South Africa at The Wanderers in Johannesburg. Vihari was going strong in the middle and had settled down well before edging one from Kagiso Rabada for Van der Dussen to take an absolute blinder.

The dismissal took place in the 39th over of India's innings when Vihari was batting on 20. Rabada bowled a quick short ball at the right-hander, who tried to defend it but ended up playing it towards Van der Dussen, who was stationed at short leg.

Van der Dussen was quick to fly towards his left and grab a one-handed stunner to send Vihari back in the hut. The South African fielder's effort left everyone, including the commentators in awe.

IND vs SA: Rassie van der Dussen takes a blinder to send Hanuma Vihari packing in Johannesburg Test - WATCH

Cheteshwar Pujara's woeful run with the bat continued on Day 1 of the second and penultimate Test between India and South Africa on Monday (January 3). After stand-in captain KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first, India started off decently to reach 36 for no loss before they were quickly reduced to 49-3 in no time.

After Mayank Agarwal (26) was the first wicket to fall on the day, No. 3 batter Pujara was expected to grind it out in the middle with no Virat Kohli in the line-up, due to upper back spasm. However, nothing of that sort happened as the 33-year-old perished for cheap (3), falling to a well-executed short-pitched delivery from SA's pacer Duanne Olivier.

With another failure, Pujara is surely running against time to hold onto his Test spot. For the unversed, the right-hander's last triple-figure knock came in early 2019 versus Australia Down Under. Since then, he has had vital fifty-plus scores under his belt, however, the senior pro has failed to convert them. Moreover, Pujara has fallen to short-pitched balls or being beaten by the incoming deliveries.

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra decoded Pujara's failures in the lunch break and told on Star Sports, "He is not even hitting the half volley with full might and we can an uncanny pattern in his dismissals. He had nicked Ngidi's delivery in the first innings of the Centurion Test. If we look at his hands and the height of the delivery, why is he even trying to play off the front foot instead of using the depth of the crease."

"If you are always lunging forward with low hands, bowlers are going to enjoy bowling against you on South African pitches. Extra bounce, low hands, lunging forward… that's a recipe for disaster," he added.

To showcase Pujara's woes, he has now gone 45 innings without a century. Thus, former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel also spoke at length about the short ball ploy used against Pujara and said, "He needs to find a way to get off the strike in South Africa and have that intent to score. There is no better feeling bowler when you run in and know that the batter is not trying to take you on."

India are without regular captain Kohli in the second Test in Johannesburg. The visitors have lost more than half the side for 150 after opting to bat first. They will hope to post anything over 220 and then challenge the Dean Elgar-led Proteas with the red cherry in hand.

IND vs SA, 2nd Test: Aakash Chopra points out 'uncanny pattern' to Pujara's dismissals amid his struggles

Virat Kohli-led India got off to a brilliant start in the ongoing Test series against South Africa as they got the better of Proteas by 113 runs in the series-opener in Centurion. It was India's only 4th Test win in South Africa, as they desperately aim for their maiden Test series win against the Proteas in their own backyard.

India are just one win away from sealing the series and script history by winning their maiden Test series in the country. However, it is not going to be an easy task for the visitors, who are missing skipper Virat Kohli in the ongoing second Test between the two nations in Johannesburg.

Nonetheless, India's superb victory in the first Test has set them up on the path towards greatness as they stand closer than ever to win their first Test series in South Africa. Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg believes the current Indian team is one of the best in the world at present and will be labelled as one of the great teams to have been on earth if they manage to beat South Africa in the ongoing series.

"India just won in South Africa in the Boxing Day Test, if India win one out of the remaining two Test matches, they are definitely the best team in the world at the moment. India are going to be labeled as one of the great teams that have been on Earth. Like Australia in the 2000s and West Indies in the late 70s and early 80s," Hogg said while speaking in a video on his YouTube channel.

Last year, India had continued their overseas dominance in England after winning their second straight Test series on Australian soil. India were leading 2-1 in the five-match series against England before the final Test in Manchester was called off due to COVID-19.

India could have easily wrapped up the series in their favour and defeated England in their own backyard had the last game not been postponed. Citing India's impressive performances overseas, Hogg said their domination while travelling makes India one of the most successful Test teams ever.

"India are the best team because they are dominating when they travel. They annihilated England on English soil. They should have had that series against England done and dusted being 3-1 up. England had no answers for them. England were too worried about The Hundred competition, getting the big stars to play there," said the former Australia spinner.

"Well, we're in different times, there's a pandemic, you have to adjust and be hospitable to the visitors. If that Test match does not get rescheduled, I don't think anyone should worry about it because it was completely England's fault," Hogg added.
