In what comes as a huge blow for the Indian team ahead of the start of the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka at home, star batter Suryakumar Yadav and pacer Deepak Chahar have been ruled out of action due to respective injuries. Chahar had picked up a injury while playing during the third and final T20I between India and West Indies on Sunday.

Chahar has injured his right quadriceps while Suryakumar has suffered a hairline fracture on his hand. Surykumar also sustained the injury during the third T20I against West Indies. Both the players will not be avialable for the three-match T20I sereis against Sri Lanka which gets underway from Thursday (February 24).

"Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries," BCCI informed in an official statement.

While the board has not announced any official replacements for the two players, the likes of Avesh Khan, Harhsal Patel and Mohammed Siraj will comprise the pace attack along with the experienced duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Meanwhile, in the absence of Suryakumar, the likes of Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda can be slotted in the middle-order. The return of Ravindra Jadeja will further strengthen India's batting line-up while young all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer will be looking to continue his good form after impressing against West Indies.

KL Rahul has won hearts off the field. India's white-ball vice-captain Rahul has recently saved the life of a young 11-year-old aspiring cricketer from a rare blood disease by donating a generous amount.

The 29-year-old Rahul -- who is suffering from a hamstring injury at present -- came to know about the 11-year-old young kid, named Varad, after his parents had launched a fundraising campaign on GiveIndia to raise INR 3.5 million (INR 35 lakh) for their son's treatment. Thus, Rahul and his team came forward and rescued the young kid from the disease.

Test axe to shocking threat from a journalist - The Wriddhiman Saha saga

Wriddhiman Saha was dropped from India's Test side as the national selectors announced the squad for the upcoming home Tests versus Sri Lanka, starting on March 04. Post his omission, the 37-year-old keeper-batter has remained in news. While he did share the details of his conversations with head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly, regarding his Test future, Saha made heads turn when he shared a screenshot of a journalist who threatened him after the veteran player didn't entertain his request for an interview.

Saha, on February 19 (Saturday), shared the screenshot of the conversation with the journalist and captioned the post, "After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so-called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone."

Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has reflected on the whole controversy and lashed out at the 'respected' journalist. He said, "This person is some journalist. Because Saha has not said who he/she is, I am not going to speculate. The rumor market is extremely hot, a lot of people have made their conjectures. Whoever the journalist is, he is actually talking like a kidnapper."

"‘Choose the one who is going to help you’ - what clout you have that you are giving a threat and telling to choose him/her else face the consequences. ‘I will remember this’ - it is a threat. So much entitlement and arrogance. Where do you get this from? ‘This wasn’t something you should have done’ - this was the final nail in the coffin. It is an open threat given to Wriddhiman Saha here. It is my wish whom I talk to, who are you?” Chopra further added.

On Saturday (February 19), the Chetan Sharma-led national selection committee appointed Rohit Sharma as the full-time captain of Team India after he succeeded Virat Kohli as the Test skipper. Rohit, who had already taken over as the white-ball captain, has now got the top post in the red-ball format as well after Kohli resigned as the Test skipper post the South Africa series.

Following Rohit taking over as the full-time captain, former Indian keeper-batter Saba Karim feels the BCCI was forced to change their split-captaincy plans with Kohli's sudden resignation as the Test skipper. The former cricketer feels the 33-year-old Kohli was not expected to leave Test captaincy all of a sudden, which he did via a Twitter post on January 15.

Talking about Kohli's credentials as a Test captain, he led India to away series wins in Australia, West Indies, Sri Lanka and helped the team gain an unassailable 2-1 lead over hosts England in an incomplete five-match series, held in 2021. Under him, India were the No. 1 ranked side for quite sometime and also played the final of the inaugural WTC final. In addition, the Test side dominated oppositions in home conditions.

Rohit, thus, has huge shoes to fill in as he is gearing up to take over as the red-ball captain as well.

Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant are not only two swashbuckling batters for Team India but the duo also are capable wicketkeepers. Kishan and Pant go a long way back. The former was Pant's captain in the 2016 U-19 World Cup, in Bangladesh.

The two cricketers were part of India's top-order in the U-19 showpiece event. While Pant now bats down the order for the national side, switching roles from a middle-order batter to a finisher, Ishan remains a top-order batter -- for India and his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). As both players have similar skillsets, people often brand them as rivals. However, Kishan played down all such claims and feels there is no thought of competition between the two.

Wriddhiman Saha's omission from India's Test squad for the forthcoming Sri Lanka series has gained maximum eyeballs. Not only Saha, the senior pros such as Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma have also been dropped from the squad for the red-ball assignment versus Sri Lanka at home, starting on March 04.

However, Saha's non-selection made news as his explosive claims, in an interview with Sportstar, revealed the head coach Rahul Dravid had told him that the team management is looking to groom a youngster in his place whereas BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly had assured him of his spot after the New Zealand home series. Many have reacted to Dravid's chat with Saha -- after the revelation from the keeper-batter. Thus, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has also joined the bandwagon.

Chopra feels Dravid's communication with Saha have been presented in a way as if he told the latter to retire, which was refused by the 37-year-old keeper-batter.

What did Dravid tell Saha?

Wriddhi, I don't know how to say this, but for some time now the selectors and the team management have been wanting to look at a new face. Because you are not our first-choice wicket-keeper, because you haven't been playing for a while, we want to use this time to groom a younger wicket-keeper," were reportedly the exact wordings from the head coach to the gloveman.

A senior Indian player reportedly wants former India pacer Ajit Agarkar to replacer Paras Paras Mhambrey as the current bowling coach of the Indian men's cricket team. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team defeated West Indies 3-0 in the recently-concluded T20I series to complete a whitewash against Kieron Pollard's men.

It has been a great start to his captaincy tenure for Rohit, who has led the team to back-to-back T20I series wins at home. India also completed a 3-0 whitewash against West Indies in the ODIs which were preceded by the T20Is. The Indian team is currently in a transition phase with Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid at the helm.

While a number of new players are trying to cement their respective spots in the Indian team with their performances, a senior figure in the side has requested a change in the backroom staff as well. As per a report in the Times of India, a senior player of the Indian team is 'keen' on Agarkar taking over as the bowling coach of the national team.

Former India seamer Mhambrey, who was appointed along with head coach Dravid and fielding coach T Dilip last year, is currently the bowling coach of the side.

Agarkar, who represented India from 1998 to 2007, played a total of 28 Tests, 191 ODIs and 4 T20Is in his international career. The fast-bowling all-rounder picked up a total of 349 wickets across formats. Agarkar is the third-highest wicket-taker for India in ODIs with 288 scalps.

“The senior player, who plays a vital role in decision-making in Indian cricket now, wants an experienced hand like Agarkar guiding the bowlers till the 2023 ODI World Cup. Senior player wants Ajit Agarkar to replace Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach of Indian team - Report

Wriddhiman Saha's revelation of a journalist threatening him continues to make the headlines. On Saturday (February 19), the veteran Indian keeper-batter was dropped from the Test squad ahead of Rohit Sharma's Indian team's forthcoming series versus Sri Lanka at home, from March 04.

Since then, the 37-year-old Saha has been making the news. While he made some explosive claims regarding his Test spot, in an interview with Sportstar, he then further revealed -- on Twitter -- that a journalist is threatening him after he didn't revert to his interview request.

Saha shared the screenshot of the conversation with the journalist and captioned the post, "After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so-called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone."

Since then, many are eager to know the details of the journalist. Many former cricketers such as Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Aakash Chopra, etc. have urged Saha to come forward and name the journalist.

Recently, BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal reacted to the whole matter and told PTI, "Yes, we will ask Wriddhiman about his tweet and what is the real incident that has happened. We need to know if he was threatened and also the background and context of his tweet. I can't say anything more. The secretary (Jay Shah) will certainly speak to Wriddhiman."

On Tuesday (February 22), Saha made it clear that he has no intention to reveal the name of the journalist. He stressed that he doesn't feel right to bring down someone publicly.

“I haven’t received any communication from the BCCI yet. The main purpose of my tweet was to expose the fact that there’s someone in the media who does such things, disrespecting a player’s wish,” Saha was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday penned an emotional letter to pay a heartfelt tribute to Virat Kohli. One of the greatest batters of all time, Kohli has already established his credentials as one of the legends of the game and has come a long way in his career since making his international debut for India in 2008.

Yuvraj was part of the Indian dressing room and was already a big name in world cricket when Kohli played his first game for the Men in Blue. The duo has since shared a great bond with each other and has been part of several memorable wins for India on the field. Both Kohli and Yuvraj were also part of India's 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squad under MS Dhoni.

Having played together for the Indian team and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Yuvraj has seen Kohli grow from a young prodigy to a legend of the game. Dedicating a special golden boot to Kohli, Yuvraj lauded him for his achievements as the captain of the Indian team. Yuvraj also called Kohli's passion and dedication for cricket an inspiration for youngsters around the globe.

"To the little boy from Delhi @imvkohli. I want to dedicate this special shoe to you, celebrating your career n time as captain which has brought smiles to millions of fans all over the world. I hope you stay the way YOU are, play the way YOU do and keep making the country proud," Yuvraj wrote in an Instagram post for Kohli.

"Virat, I’ve seen you grow as a cricketer and as a person. From that young boy in the nets who would walk shoulder-to-shoulder with the legends of Indian cricket, you’re now a legend yourself leading the way for a new generation. Your discipline and passion on the field and dedication to the sport inspire every young kid in this country to pick up the bat and dream of putting on the blue jersey one day.

"You have elevated your level of cricket every single year and achieved so much already in this wonderful game that it makes me even more excited to watch you embark on this new chapter in your career. You have been a legendary captain and a fantastic leader. I’m expecting many more of your famous run chases," he added.

Yuvraj also recalled the time he spent with Kohli while playing for the Indian team. He insisted the batting maestro might be 'King Kohli' for the rest of the world but for him, the former Indian skipper will always remain 'Cheeku'. Kohli is fondly called Cheeku - his nickname, by a lot of his current and former teammates.

"I’m glad to have shared a bond with you as a teammate and more so a friend. Scoring runs, pulling people's legs, cheating meals, jamming to Punjabi songs and winning cups, we’ve done it all together. Mere liye tu hamesha Cheeku rahega aur duniya ke liye King Kohli," wrote Yuvraj.

"Always keep the fire inside you burning. You’re a superstar. Here’s a special golden boot for you. Keep making the country proud! @virat.kohli," he added.

Kohli, who was last seen in action for India during the recently-concluded T20I series against West Indies, has been given a much-needed 10-day break by the BCCI and will miss the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka at home. Kohli will return when India lock horns with Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series next month.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Yuvraj Singh (@yuvisofficial) × Also Read: Break from bio-bubble a much-needed one for under-fire Virat Kohli Yuvraj also recalled the time he spent with Kohli while playing for the Indian team.

US President Donald Trump has become the first sitting US president to set foot inside North Korea when he crossed over the demarcation line.

Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un shook hands in the demilitarised zone (DMZ) that separates North and South Korea.

"It's nice to see you again," Kim reportedly told President Trump. "I never expected to meet you in this place."

About Trump stepping into North Korea, Kim Jong-un told "It's a very courageous and determined act."

Trump thanked Kim, and added that the two of them have "a great friendship".

It was a "great day for the world", Trump said after meeting North Korean leader Kim.

"It's an honour for me to be here," Trump added, as the two men talked with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Seoul's side of the border.

"We met and liked each other from day one," Trump added.

Kim and Trump also had an informal chat amid the media scrum.

Trump said ''We are hearing from Kim directly''.

“You hear that voice, no one hears this voice, he doesn’t do press conferences,” he said.

Trump said he wants to thank Kim for responding to his Twitter invitation to meet.

“If he didn’t show up the press was going to make me look very bad,” said Trump.

“If you look back two-and-a-half years, before I was president, it was a very very bad situation, a very dangerous situation for North Korea, South Korea, for the world. The relationship we have developed has been so much for so many people,” Trump added.

“Thank you for asking me to step over that line, I didn’t know if you were going to ask me to do that, I thought you might, but I was ready to do that if you asked,” he added.

After exposing him on Twitter, Wriddhiman Saha unwilling to reveal name of journalist who threatened him

Team India's Test squad for the forthcoming home series versus Sri Lanka was revealed on Saturday (February 19). The squad news made heads turn as the national selectors announced Rohit Sharma as the new Test captain, making him India's full-time skipper, whereas senior pros such as Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Wriddhiman Saha failed to make the cut.

Saha's omission made maximum noise as the veteran keeper-batter made some explosive claims post his exclusion. In an interview with Sportstar, the 37-year-old wicketkeeper claimed that head coach Rahul Dravid had told him that the team management is not considering him for future series -- after the South Africa Tests -- as they want to groom a young KS Bharat as the second keeper-batter after Rishabh Pant.

Further, Saha also revealed that he was assured of his place in the Test side by BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly post the first Test between India and New Zealand at Kanpur, in late 2021. Now, Ganguly's brother Snehashish Ganguly -- who is also the secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) -- feels Saha shouldn't have disclosed private chats from BCCI officials, head coach and chief selector.

India demolished West Indies in the three T20Is at home. Taking an unassailable lead heading into the final encounter, Rohit Sharma-led Indian team were asked to bat first in the final T20I. After being at a tricky position, at 61-3, the Men in Blue posted a daunting 184-5 courtesy of an impressive 91-run fifth-wicket stand between Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer.

Both SKY and Iyer came together with the score reading 93-4 in 13.5 overs. The duo's stand flourished as the rest of the innings progressed with their strokeplay, taking India to a competitive score. In reply, Nicholas Pooran's 61 and cameos from Romario Shepherd and Rovman Powell weren't enough for Kieron Pollard's West Indies; losing by 17 runs.

Following the series, SKY's stature continues to rise in Indian cricket. He has fulfilled various roles -- coming out to bat at different positions -- and looks pretty much in contention for the T20 World Cup squad, as per Little Master Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar told Star Sports, "I think he is pretty much making a case for inclusion (T20 World Cup team). In the first match, he and Venkatesh combined to take India home just when things were looking a bit difficult. Today as well. To bat like that when 4 wickets already fell that truly shows the sign that the team is making the right progress. Perfection is impossible. But to have guys who can raise their hand and step up when things are not going their way...don't forget, he is still a newcomer. So it is not like he is playing international cricket for a long time. Venkatesh too came in only a couple of months back."

“He can play at No.3 and help build an innings. Like what we saw in the first game and today the way he can finish it, he is an innings builder and also a finisher. What a great combination," pointed out the former opener.

SKY ended the series with scores of 34* (18) -- striking at 188.89 -- 8 (6) and 65 (31). Thus, he was adjudged the Player-of-the-Match as well as the Player-of-the-Series (he was also the highest run-getter in the ODI leg). At the post-match presentation after the T20Is, SKY said, "Just wanted to replicate what I did in the first game. Needed someone to stay there after Rohit got out and get the team to a defendable total. We had a long chat in the team meeting as to how we are going to react under immense pressure and it came out very well. I just try to keep things simple. Being a little harsh on yourself in the nets, don't hit every ball wildly and have some quality sessions. Excited for the next series."

He's making a case for inclusion for T20 World Cup: Sunil Gavaskar impressed with India's star batter

Rohit Sharma's Team India beat West Indies in the third and final T20I at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday evening (February 20). Being asked to bat first, Rohit & Co. rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 65 and Venkatesh Iyer's 19-ball 35* to post 184-5. In reply, the Kieron Pollard-led visitors were restricted 167-9 to whitewash the series courtesy a 17-run win.

Throughout the course of the series, the 34-year-old Rohit made heads turn for his decision-making, rotating the bowlers and being a step ahead of the opposition on the field. Thus, veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik lauded Hitman but also mentioned where he will be tested as captain. For the unversed, Rohit is now India's full-time captain after being named as Virat Kohli's successor in whites, after taking over in limited-overs, on Saturday (February 19).

Going to be a big challenge: Dinesh Karthik points out where captain Rohit Sharma will be tested

Senior batters Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have both been dropped from India's Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home. The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel dropped as many as four senior players from the Test squad which was announced on Saturday.

Both Pujara and Rahane were struggling with their respective forms in the longest format and had been suffering from a lean patch with the willow for a while now. The duo failed to turn a corner in India's Test series against South Africa earlier this year and their disappointing show on the tour has resulted in their axing from the squad.

After their exclusion from the Test squad, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has made a bold claim on the future of the two senior Indian batters. Jadeja believes their exclusion from the squad means all ut end of their respective Test careers. Jadeja said he doesn't see both Rahane and Pujara making a comeback in the Test team but will like to be proved wrong.

“Both are single-format players, and when you leave them out of that one format, I don’t see them coming back. I hope I am wrong because these are stalwarts. They have played 80-90 Test matches. There is enough talent that is around. The next generation that has come has pushed them," Jadeja said on Cricbuzz.

While he insisted Pujara and Rahane are unlikely to make a comeback in the Test team, Jadeja said the duo has been made a scapegoat after India's 2-1 series loss in South Africa. The former India cricketer said it is unfair for the selectors to drop the do after one series loss and that the two senior batters have been singled out after the defeat.

“It is sad. If it was done a year and a half ago, when India were still at the top and winning, I would have backed that decision. Dropping Rahane and Pujara after losing one series is unfair. Then you are singling out these two, and that’s not the way to build sides," said Jadeja.

India's Test squad for the forthcoming home series versus Sri Lanka was announced on Saturday (February 19). Among the notable omissions, senior pros Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma's absence made heads turn.

While Pujara-Rahane are busy in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2021/22 edition, Saha's future seems to be, more or less, sealed after the 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batter revealed his chat with head coach Rahul Dravid. Saha mentioned that Dravid had a conversation with him, where he revealed that the national side is looking at KS Bharat as the second keeper-batter to Rishabh Pant and not him. In addition, he suggested Saha take a call on his future.

Following Dravid's remark, Saha's childhood coach Jayant Bhowmik told India Today, "Rahul Dravid is a gentleman. I have heard what he has said. It's alright. But then, even now Indian team has players who are in their late 30s. Everyone knows that Wriddhiman Saha is still No.1 wicketkeeper in the world. Then, what is the problem?"

He further asserted, "There should not be different criteria for different people when it comes to selection. That's unfair. How can this happen? I spoke to Wriddhiman Saha this morning. He is mentally very strong. His mental strength won't be affected because of all this. He is exceptional.

"But what hurts me is Saha is someone who loves the sport, contributed so much to his country and sport but he has been left out without a proper criterion," Jayanta added.

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard lavished praise on Indian team star Suryakumar Yadav for his brilliant knock in the third and final T20I between the two sides at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (February 20). Pollard called Suryakumar a world-class player and said every batter in the world can learn something from him.

Suryakumar top-scored for India with a brilliant knock of 65 runs off 31 balls laced with seven sixes and a four in the third T20I against West Indies on Sunday. He combined with Venkatesh Iyer (35) to bail India out of trouble with a 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Asked to bat first in the game, India got off to a poor start as they lost opener Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply on 4 off 8 balls before Ishan Kishan (34) and Shreyas Iyer (25) added 53 runs for the second wicket. However, the duo departed in quick succession before skipper Rohit Sharma was also dismissed cheaply on 7 off 15 balls to leave India in a spot of bother at 93/4 inside 14 overs.

'Suryakumar Yadav is world class': Kieron Pollard lauds Indian batter after brilliant knock vs West Indies

Rohit Sharma's Team India beat West Indies by 17 runs to win the third and final T20I and inflict a whitewash over the hapless visitors. On Sunday evening (February 20), Rohit-led Indian team posted a daunting 184-5 and defended the score by 17 runs, despite Nicholas Pooran's 61 and cameos from Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd.

Speaking after Team India's 3-0 victory against the Windies in the press conference, head coach Rahul Dravid lavished huge praise on the national team. He further indicated that the team management already have a fair idea of the team combination for the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia. He said, "I think we have got a fair idea between Rohit and myself and the selectors and the management. I don’t think there’s a set formula to it. But we’re pretty clear about the balance and the combination (for the T20 World Cup)…We are just structuring a little bit of the team around it and also balancing individual workloads as well."

We want to give players opportunities, ensure that by the time we get to the World Cup, some of our guys have played at least 10-15-20 games. It gives Rohit a chance to play them, bowl them in positions that he wants to, but he also has to be balanced with the fact that we need to have a few back-ups of people in case of an injury," the coach further explained.

Have a fair idea of team combination for T20 World Cup, says Rahul Dravid after WI series

Rohit Sharma-led Team India beat West Indies by 17 runs to inflict a whitewash over the visitors in the just-concluded three T20Is. On Sunday evening (February 20), Rohit-led India were asked to bat first. While Ishan Kishan started off nicely, he slowed down as the innings progressed whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad and captain Rohit failed to get going.

Shreyas Iyer got a start, however, perished soon. At 91-4, Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer got together and had a job in hand. While it seemed 160 would have been difficult to cross, the duo put on an impressive 91-run fifth-wicket stand -- filled with strokeplay -- to take the score to 184-5 in 20 overs. SKY returned with a 31-ball 65 whereas Iyer remained unbeaten on 35* (19).

In reply, Nicholas Pooran's fifty and Romario Shepherd's cameo went in vain as the Kieron Pollard-led Windies failed to win a single game in the India tour. While the bowlers did an excellent job to finish the game, maximum credit goes to SKY-Iyer to have set it up beautifully for the home side.

Thus, Iyer reflected on the match-winning partnership with SKY and revealed how the latter's words motivated him when he came to the crease.

When I went out there, even Surya was relatively new to the crease. I still remember the first words he told me- 'Aaj ek aur opportunity hai'," Iyer said.

"So I think, when a senior player tells you that, it gives you a lot of confidence, you see pressure as a privilege. He is one of those guys who everyone likes in the dressing room, he has got great chemistry. It was wonderful batting with him, I was really enjoying his batting from the non-striker's end," he added.

Today, there is another opportunity: Venkatesh Iyer reveals motivating words from 'likeable' Suryakumar Yadav

India defeated West Indies by 17 runs in the third and final T20I on Sunday (February 21) to complete a 3-0 whitewash in the three-match series. Young all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was one of the heroes of India's victory as he contributed well with both the bat and the ball.

Iyer slammed a crucial knock of 35 runs off 19 balls to help India post a strong total of 184 runs on the board before taking two wickets with the ball to help the hosts defend the total. In the absence of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Iyer along with the likes of Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur has impressed with his exploits in limited-overs cricket.

Pandya had opted to make himself unavailable for selection post India's exit from T20 World Cup 2021 to focus on his bowling and overall fitness. The all-rounder has since missed India's series against New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies. He will also be not part of the upcoming T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka at home.

In Pandya's absence, Iyer, Chahar and Sharul have all strengthened their case for cementing their spots in India's T20I squad. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes Iyer is now ahead of Pandya as far as a spot in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad is concerned.

Expressing concerns over Pandya's return to bowling full-time for the Indian team, Jaffer said he feels Iyer is currently ahead of the star all-rounder while adding that the upcoming IPL 2022 will play a key role in his return to the Indian team.

"At this point of time, I feel he's a little bit ahead because you don't know Hardik Pandya whether he's bowling now or how fit he is. Obviously how the IPL goes for Hardik Pandya will play a very key role but at this point of time, Venkatesh Iyer is ahead of Hardik Pandya," Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

Iyer has so far played six T20Is for India and has scored 128 runs while picking up three wickets. After a stuttering start, the young all-rounder has started to find his feet in international cricket and is expected to give Pandya a tough competition for the all-rounder's spot in the squad.

Senior India wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha recently exposed a 'respected journalist' on Twitter by sharing a screenshot of insulting messages he received from the person after denying an interview. Saha was dropped from India's Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka at home as the selectors announced the squad last week.

Following his exclusion from the squad, Saha went on to make some explosive claims regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly and current India head coach Rahul Dravid. The BCCI has now decided to conduct a 'thorough investigation' into Saha's recent comments and his tweet revealing threatening messages from a journalist.

In the screenshot shared by Saha on Twitter, the journalist can be seen making insulting comments against the senior cricketer. Ever since his post went viral, Saha has received immense support from the cricket fraternity with a number of former cricketers urging him to expose the so-called journalist.

As per a report in the Times of India, BCCI is calling for a 'thorough investigation' in the matter as Saha is a contracted cricketer and the board doesn't want to let it's player down. The BCCI will also investigate the wicket-keeper batter's comments about receiving messages of assurance from board president Sourav Ganguly.

"Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it," officials tracking the development told TOI.

As per the report, the BCCI will approach Saha for the WhatsApp messages and a forensic investigation will be conducted. If the person who sent the messages is found to be an actual journalist covering Indian cricket, he will be banned by the board. The board is also determined to find out if there are other cricketers who have had to go through similar situations.

"If the sender of those messages indeed happens to be a journalist covering Indian cricket, the Board will take steps towards banning him. It is also important to see if anybody else has gone through this," an official was quoted as saying by TOI.

The board official also stated that BCCI president Ganguly's comments will be investigated as well. The official questioned in what capacity did the BCCI president gave assurance to a player about his spot in the Indian Test team.

"The Rahul Dravid-bit is understandable. He's the national coach and may have wanted to keep his players in the loop. That's between the coach and the players. What was the need for a BCCI official to speak with Saha and assure him of a place in the side? 'I don't need to worry till he's there'. In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Saha revealed he had received a congratulatory message from Ganguly after his 61-run knock in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur, in November last year. The wicket-keeper batter claimed that Ganguly had assured him that his spot in the Test side is safe till the time he is the president of BCCI.

"The biggest shock was that when I scored 61 against New Zealand in Kanpur despite being injured, Dadi (as BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is referred to), texted to congratulate me and said I didn't need to worry about anything till he is there. Naturally, I was shocked at what I was told immediately one series after," Saha, who was dropped from the Test squad on Saturday, told ESPNCricinfo.

India's head coach Rahul Dravid is not "hurt" by Wriddhiman Saha revealing the "difficult" conversation that the two had about his future as he firmly believes that the veteran keeper-batter "deserved the honesty and clarity" which was provided to him.

Saha, whose India career has come to a halt, recently told the media that Dravid asked him to consider retirement during a private conversation after the South Africa series last month.

Dravid said his intention behind talking to Saha was to ensure he has a clear picture of where he stands and he does not regret it.

"I'm actually not hurt at all. I have deep respect for Wriddhi and his achievements and his contribution to Indian cricket. My conversation came from that place. I think he deserved honesty and clarity," Dravid replied at the end of the T20 series against the West Indies which India won 3-0 on Sunday.

The 37-year-old, who has played 40 Tests for India, was dropped from the squad ahead of the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. He subsequently pulled out of the ongoing Ranji Trophy as well.

Dravid said he will continue having such conversations with players whether they like the discussion or not.
"It's about conversations I constantly have with players. I don't expect players to always agree with everything I say about them.

"That's not how it works. You can have difficult conversations with the players, but that doesn't mean you brush it under the carpet and don't have the conversations," Dravid was crystal clear about his approach.

Dravid said that his philosophy is to have discussions with players before every playing XI is picked.

"I always believe in having those conversations before every playing XI is picked and be open to questions such as why they are not playing. It's natural for players to get upset and feel hurt," he said.

Dravid also explained the rationale behind speaking to Saha, saying that it was necessary as Rishabh Pant has already established himself as the new No.1 wicketkeeper across formats and the Bengal man wouldn't have got chances going forward.

"I was just trying to convey that with RP (Pant), having established himself as our No.1 wicketkeeper-batsman, the idea was to say that we are looking to groom a younger wicketkeeper (Kona Bharat).

"This doesn't change my feelings or respect for Wriddhi," he asserted.

For Dravid, telling a harsh truth is better than avoiding a conversation altogether. "Easiest thing for me is to not have these conversations and not speak to players about it. That's not what I am going to do.

"But at some stage, I hope they respect the fact that I was able to front up and have those conversations," he added.

India continued their dominant run against West Indies in the third and final T20I on Sunday as they thrashed the visitors by 17 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to complete a 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series. It was a brilliant all-round performance from Rohit Sharma & Co., who rode on Suryakumar Yadav's blistering half-century to post a strong total of 185 runs on the board before Harshal Patel's exceptional spell helped them defend it comfortably.

While India have now moved to the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings with back to back clean sweeps in their last two T20I series, captain Rohit has also managed to create a new captaincy record. With the team's 3-0 clean sweep against Kieron Pollard's men, Rohit has become the first Indian captain to lead the side to 3 or more series whitewashes in T20Is.

No Indian captain before the Hitman had managed to achieve the feat in the shortest format of the game. Rohit has led India to series clean sweeps against Sri Lanka (2017), New Zealand (2021) and West Indies (2022). He has become only the third captain in the world after Pakistan Sarfaraz Ahmed (5) and Afghanistan's Asghar Afghan (4) to win three or more T20Is series without losing a single game.

Skipper Rohit, who demoted himself to no.4 in order to let Gaikwad and Kishan open the innings, also couldn't get going and was dismissed on 7 off 15 deliveries.

However, Suryakumar and Venkatesh Iyer helped India stage a brilliant comeback in the game as the duo posted a brilliant stand of 91 runs for the 5th wicket. Both Suryakumar and Venkatesh went after the West Indies bowlers and took them to the cleaners during their entertaining partnership.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly to dive in and extend his support towards senior wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha, who was recently threatened by a 'journalist'. Shastri said it was shocking to see a player being threatened by a journalist and urged Ganguly to find out who the person is to protect the interest of other players.

Saha on Saturday had shared a screenshot of a conversation between him and a journalist on his official Twitter account. In the chat, the journalist can be seen telling Saha that he doesn't take 'insults kindly' after being seemingly denied an interview by the wicket-keeper batter.

Sharing the screenshot of the chat on Twitter, Saha wrote - "After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so-called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone." Ever since he shared the post, the cricket fraternity has united to extend their support to Saha.

A number of former cricketers including the likes of Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and RP Singh among others have expressed their support for Saha and urged him to name and shame the so-called journalist. Shastri too reacted to Saha's post on Sunday and expressed his shock.

Time for Sourav Ganguly to step in: Ravi Shastri 'shocked' as Wriddhiman Saha threatened by a journalist

Wriddhiman Saha was not picked in India's Test squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series at home. Saha was among four senior players who were dropped from the squad for the two-match series against the visitors. The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel announced India's T20I and Test squad in a virtual press conference on Saturday (February 29).

While Rohit Sharma was appointed India's permanent captain in Tests, the selectors made a bold call by dropping senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma and Saha. While chief selector Sharma refused to divulge the details of the reason behind not including Saha in the squad, he also insisted the senior wicket-keeper not playing in the ongoing Ranji Trophy is not a concern for the selectors.

His non-selection has not gone down well with Saha, who has made some explosive revelations after being dropped from the Indian Test squad. The senior wicket-keeper batter revealed that he had received an assurance from BCCI president Sourav Ganguly that his spot in the Indian Test team is secure as long as he is at the helm of the Indian cricket board.

Saha had played a crucial knock of 61 runs in the first Test against New Zealand last year to bail India out of trouble in Kanpur. Saha claimed it was after his unbeaten 61 against the Kiwis that he had received a message from Ganguly, the president of BCCI, assuring him of his spot is safe in the Test team as long as he was there.

“After scoring 61 against New Zealand at Kanpur, Dadi (Ganguly) congratulated me over WhatsApp and mentioned, ‘As long as I’m here (helming the BCCI), you would be in the team’. Such a message from the BCCI president really boosted my confidence. What I’m struggling to understand is that how things have changed so fast,” Saha was quoted as saying by PTI.

Rahul Dravid asked me to consider retiring: Wriddhman Saha

After venting his frustration out against BCCI president Ganguly, Saha also made some startling revelations against India's current head coach Rahul Dravid. The senior wicket-keeper batter said he was told by the Indian team management that he will not be considered for selection in the Test side anymore and that he should retire.

"The team management had told me that I would not be considered henceforth. I could not tell this so long as I was part of the India team setup. Even coach Rahul Dravid suggested that I think about taking retirement," PTI quoted Saha as saying.

The Indian team has replaced Saha with the young KS Bharat, who has been churning out great performances in the domestic circuit and is seen as a potential long-term competitor for Rishabh Pant as wicket-keeper in the longest format.

Dravid suggested retirement, Ganguly assured Test spot: Wriddhiman Saha makes explosive revelations

Indian seamers fired in unison after Suryakumar Yadav's belligerent fifty as the hosts coasted to a series-sweeping 17-run win over the West Indies in the third and final T20I here on Sunday. After Deepak Chahar limped off the field after failing to complete the third over due to a hamstring injury, Harshal Patel (3/22), Venkatesh Iyer (2/23 from 2.1 overs) and Shardul Thakur (2/33) performed their tasks impressively to defend India's 184/5.

Wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran continued his fine form slamming a third successive fifty (61 off 47 balls; 8x4, 1x6) but it was not enough as West Indies managed just 167 for nine. For Rohit, it was his third successive clean sweep as full-time skipper, having earlier defeated New Zealand (0-3) in T20Is and West Indies (0-3) in ODIs. The win also matched their 2020 record of nine successive victories on the trot.

For the West Indies, this was their third successive bilateral series defeats away from home -- 0-2 to New Zealand in 2020-21 and 0-3 to Pakistan 2021-22 -- as they capped a forgettable India sojourn losing six matches on the trot (including three in the ODI leg).

Though debutant pacer Avesh Khan (4-0-42-0) struggled with his line, Chahar made early inroads for India early on removing both the openers -- Kayle Mayers (6) and Shai Hope (8) -- in the space of 11 deliveries inside the powerplay.

Chahar swung the ball both ways and also smartly changed his pace to deceive the Windies openers and gave the first breakthrough in the fifth ball after India reviewed it successfully to dismiss Mayers.

In his next over, he took the outside edge of Hope with a peach of an outswinger and looked on fire before he sustained an injury and limped off the field without completing his over.

In absence of Chahar, Harshal stepped it up displaying his brilliant cricketing mind as he executed his slower ones to perfection to be the wrecker-in-chief.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav unleashed his brute power on way to a 31-ball 65, and was well supported by all-rounder Venkatesh (35 not out off 19) as India posted a challenging 184 for five after being put in to bat.

Suryakumar smashed seven sixes and one boundary in an exceptional display of power-hitting before getting out for his career-best T20 score in the final delivery. Pace bowling all-rounder Venkatesh smashed four fours and two sixes at the other end as the duo put together 91 runs from 37 balls for the fourth wicket to help India recover from a mini middle-order collapse.

The rejigged Team India lost three wickets for 55 runs in the middle overs including that of skipper Rohit Sharma, who batted at number four, to be struggling at 98/4 in 15 overs.

Surya cruised to his fourth T20 fifty in just 27 balls with a massive inside-out six over covers off Romario Sheperd in the final over as India stepped up in style smashing 86 runs in the final five overs.

It was a new-look Indian batting order on display with Ishan Kishan opening the batting with Ruturaj Gaikwad, while Shreyas Iyer batted at No 3, and skipper Rohit dropped him down the order at No 4 in absence of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant who have been rested.

Having got a chance after making a debut in the Sri Lanka series in July last year, the Maharashtra 'run machine' Ruturaj impressed in his short stay at the crease and timed the ball to perfection before getting out while playing out of his comfort zone.

The most expensive buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction Ishan, who had two forgettable outings in the first two T20Is, started to fire against Shepherd with three boundaries in four balls in the fourth over.

Having put on a fifty-plus stand in just 32 balls, the duo of Shreyas and Ishan failed to convert their starts and got out in the space of seven balls.

The Windies spin duo of Hayden Walsh Junior (4-0-30-1) and Roston Chase (4-0-23-1) bowled brilliantly in the middle overs.

Wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha was dropped from India's Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka on Saturday (February 19). The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel dropped as many as four senior players from the Test squad including Saha, who has been replaced by young wicket-keeper KS Bharat.

Since being dropped from the Test team, Saha has gone on to make some startling revelations regarding his exclusion. From claiming that he was asked by head coach Rahul Dravid to consider retirement to opening up on assurance from BCCI president Sourav Ganguly about his spot in the Test side, Saha has made some explosive remarks in the last few hours.

In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, the senior keeper has now also shared details of the message he had received from India's chief selector Chetan Sharma before being dropped from the Test team. Saha claimed Sharma told him the same thing that Dravid had said, informing him about the team management's plan to look beyond him in the longest format.

However, he insisted Sharma told him later that he will not be considered for selection in the Indian Test team from 'now on'. Saha's claims have contradicted Sharma's comments during the press conference after the squad announcement where he said the four players had been dropped only for the two-match series against Sri Lanka.

"Ten-twelve days later, I got a call from Chetan Sharma [chairman of selectors]. He asked me if I was playing Ranji Trophy. I said I hadn't decided yet. Then he went on to tell me what Rahul bhai had said. So I asked him if this decision was for just this series or for the upcoming series against Australia and England too. Then he paused for a couple of seconds and said, "From now on, you will not be considered," Saha told ESPNcricinfo about his chat with Sharma.

"Then I asked him why, is it because of my performance and fitness or is it because of my age? He said fitness and performance were not an issue. "We want to look at new faces and if we bring in a new face, we can't drop him without playing him." That's why he said "from now on"," he added.

Sharma had on Saturday said the door has not been closed for the likes of Rahane, Pujara and others and that they can make their comebacks in the Test team if they manage to perform well in the Ranji Trophy. While Pujara, Rahane and Ishant are all in action for their respective sides in the Ranji Trophy, Saha had pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.

Scrutiny is nothing new when it comes to sports. Athletes across the globe go through lean patches and are at times subjected to intense criticism which even the toughest one find difficult to handle. The damage from scrutiny is often swept under the rug and players are left to deal with the repercussions.

When it comes to cricket in India, praise and criticism go hand in hand. As much as the cricketers are loved by the fans of the sport that has ruled the hearts of the nation for several decades now, they receive an almost equal amount of scrutiny when their performances on the field dip.

Virat Kohli is no different. Despite being a cult hero and one of the best batters to have graced world cricket in the present era, Kohli has failed to earn leverage against unscathed criticism and personal attacks which can cause severe damage to even the mentally toughest athletes.

Kohli, who has rightfully earned the tag of a 'run machine' with his incredibly consistent performances with the willow over the years, has not enjoyed the best of form over the last couple of years. His last international century came more than a couple of years ago in November 2019 and his last few series have been below-par as per the standards he has set for himself with his stunning performances in the past.

This is not the first time Kohli has gone through a lean patch in his career and as per the batting maestro himself, he has seen the worst of it all during India's tour of England in 2014 which has left him shattered on and off the field. "I just didn't know what to do and what to say to anyone, How to speak, how to communicate," Kohli had once said recalling the England tour of 2014 - his worst so far in his career.

Eight years down the line and Kohli is a far more mature cricketer now, a fighter in his own rights and someone who hates to turn up on the field if not feeling his hundred per cent. However, his ongoing rough patch once again has pushed one of the finest cricketers of the generation to the edge.

COVID-19 has changed the way the sport used to be played and mental fatigue has become a far bigger challenge than it ever was. A number of players, including Kohli in the past, have spoken about the importance of adequate breaks while playing continuous cricket in such bubbles and how challenging it is for players to go about their business in such conditions.

On Saturday (February 19), Kohli reportedly left the Indian team's bubble in Kolkata during their ongoing T20I series against West Indies after being granted a much-needed ten-day break by the BCCI. The break couldn't have come at a better time for the former India captain.

His century drought since 2019 has led to needless scrutiny almost every time he turns up to bat in a game. However, even Kohli will admit, he has not been the prolific run-scorer that he used to be and pressure seems to have taken a toll on his performances for the Indian team.

Apart from dealing with his rough patch, the last few months have been turbulent for the former India captain, who was embroiled in a controversial saga with the Indian cricket board after being sacked from ODI captaincy in December last year. Kohli, who had himself given up T20 captaincy last year, was sacked as the captain in ODIs before he decided to quit Test captaincy as well.

While the popular belief was that being relieved of the pressure of captaining the team will help Kohli bounce back and find his lost form, there were no such signs as the former India skipper continued to struggle. While the best way to find form is to play as much as you can, sometimes a break can do wonders.

For Kohli, this crucial ten-day break couldn't have come at a better time as it will help the seasoned cricketer in pressing the refresh button after what have been an agonising few months on and off the field. Kohli will miss the 3rd T20I against West Indies followed by the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

He will return from his much-needed break when India lock horns with Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series. To make his comeback in the format that he loves the most will be an ideal situation for the run-machine, who will be looking to shut down some of his critics with his bat.

Kohli has scored 760 runs in 15 Tests, 791 runs in 21 ODIs and 846 runs in 2 T20Is, averaging 28.14, 37.66 and 56.40 in the three formats respectively since his last international hundred. His form has not been as bad as it has been made out to be but when it comes to a batter of his standard and quality even good numbers look poor.

Break from bio-bubble a much-needed one for under-fire Virat Kohli

The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel on Saturday (February 19) announced India's squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka at home. The squad selection has hinted at the beginning of a new era of the Test team as the selectors dropped four senior players from the side while naming Rohit Sharma the captain after Virat Kohli's departure.

The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma have been axed from the Test squad and have been replaced by youngsters. While the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal are likely to get more chances in the middle-order now, Saha has been replaced by young wicket-keeper KS Bharat, who is seen as a long-term competitor of Rishabh Pant for the first-choice keeper's spot.

Despite a number of young players being included in the squad, former India cricketer and national selector Dilip Vengsarkar is not happy with some of the decisions of the Sharma-led selection panel. Vengsarkar, who was a member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning squad has questioned the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sarfaraz Khan in the Indian Test team.

Both Gaikwad and Sarfaraz have been enjoying a stellar run in the domestic circuit and have been scoring runs consistently for their respective state teams. Vengsarkar accused the selectors of 'not applying their minds' while selecting the team.

"It seems there isn't application of mind when the team is selected. How can one explain the omission of Ruturaj and Sarfaraz, who are two of the most prolific scorers in the domestic circuit? Looking at the team, a couple of players, though talented, haven't done much to merit their place in the squad," the former selector was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

"Let every player earn his place in the team and not take it for granted. Ruturaj and Sarfaraz deserve a place. The selectors are damaging their morale by not selecting them for India," he added.

While Gaikwad was the highest run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 with 603 runs from five matches at an average of over 150, Sarfaraz has been dominating bowling attacks in the Ranji Trophy over the last couple of years. The right-hander has 1995 runs to his name at an average of 199 in nine matches since the 2019 season.

Gaikwad is currently part of India's ODI and T20I squads but is yet to receive his maiden call-up in Tests. Sarfaraz has not received his maiden international call up for Team India yet.

'No application of mind': Former selector questions Gaikwad, Sarfaraz's non-selection in India's Test squad

Rohit Sharma was appointed as India's permanent Test captain on Saturday (February 19). The Hitman will now be leading India across all formats of the game and his first major assignment in Tests will be the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka at home. The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel announced India's Test and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka series on Saturday.

Apart from naming Rohit as the new Test captain, the selection committee also made some notable exclusions from the squad with an eye on the future. Senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha were dropped from the side to make way for youngsters. In the absence of KL Rahul, who will miss the series due to an injury, pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named India's vice-captain for both the T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka.

While speaking about the future captaincy prospects of the Indian cricket team, chief selector Sharma named three potential candidates who will be groomed for a leadership role under current skipper Rohit. Sharma said Rahul, Bumrah and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant are among potential captaincy candidates for the Indian team going forward.

Chetan Sharma names 3 potential captaincy candidates for India who will be groomed under Rohit Sharma

India survived a last-over scare from Rovman Powell to secure a thrilling 8-run win in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series to take an unassailable lead of 2-0. India will be aiming for a 3-0 clean sweep when they lock horns with Kieron Pollard & Co. in the third and final T20I of the series at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (February 20).

If India manage to continue their stellar winning run in the third T20I on Sunday, it will be the second successive T20I series clean sweep for the hosts, who had defeated New Zealand 3-0 at home post the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. India have been enjoying a brilliant run under captain Rohit Sharma and will be hopeful of making it three wins in a row on Sunday.

However, the hosts are set to be without Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the final encounter. Both Kohli and Pant were the heroes of India's victory in the second game as they slammed a half-century apiece to help the Men in Blue post a challenging total of 186 runs on the board. Kohli and Pant left the team's bio-bubble and have been given a ten-day break by the BCCI.

The duo will also miss the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka which is set to get underway from February 24. In the absence of the duo, India are likely to bring Shreyas Iyer back in the playing XI. Iyer, who is yet to feature in the ongoing T20I series, can take Kohli's no.3 spot in the batting line-up. Talented opener Ruturaj Gaikwad also might finally get a chance to break into the XI.

Gaikwad is part of the squad but is yet to get a chance in the series and he might open with captain Rohit Sharma in the 3rd T20I on Sunday. Ishan Kishan, who has had average outings as an opener in the first two games, might be asked to take Pant's spot in the middle-order and keep wickets in his absence.
