Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru ahead of their TATA IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation and recovery at the National Cricket Academy.

When asked about his recovery, Pant said, "I am recovering very well and I'm getting better with each passing day. Delhi Capitals captain David Warner is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023, but on a contrasting note, his team has failed to register a single win so far. The team's assistant coach and Warner's former teammate, Shane Watson, has come to his aid, saying he'd be blown away if David doesn't set the tournament alight with his performance going ahead.

Speaking on the Grade Cricketer's podcast, Watson said even though Warner slammed his bat in frustration after completing his 43-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians the other night, he still played with a fearless approach.&nbsp;

"The other night, Dave [Warner] definitely had a [much] more fearless mindset with the way he was batting. He was taking the game on… yes, he missed a few balls that in the past he would have hit for four or six, he's mis-hit a couple of balls, but that's all part of Dave just working through the technical side of his game," Watson said.

Watson added that having played alongside Warner for years helps him understand what David's style of play is&nbsp;and what all areas are there that need improvement. The former IPL winner with Chennai Super Kings, Watson said, looking at how nicely Warner has played so far, he will set the tournament on fire.&nbsp;

"That's also part of my role as well, as a coach. Because I know Dave so well from batting with him and playing with him, there's one or two little things that I know he'll get right over the next couple of days, and I'll be blown away if he doesn't - yes, he's been scoring runs, but from a scoring perspective - if he doesn't set the IPL alight from now on, knowing that he's so close.

"He's batting very nicely. He's just mis-hitting some balls that he'd normally hit for four or six. Once you do that, once you start really finding the middle of your bat, then your scoring rate just goes through the roof," Watson added.

Watson elaborated on how David is fighting with different situations in the middle, playing through the innings even when wickets keep falling regularly.

"Warner had been working through" a 'challenging inner battle' in the first three games of the season, grappling with whether or not to take risks as wickets fell at the other end. It goes against a lot of the things that you're taught as a kid growing up," Watson said. "You lose a wicket, you've got to establish a partnership - even in T20 cricket - for five or six balls.

"But then, if you do that and you keep losing wickets after five or six balls before you know it, you're three overs down, and you've just been rotating ones to try and build a partnership. Dave was just working through that himself in the first few games," the former right-handed batter said.

Meanwhile, during the game against Rajasthan Royals, Warner completed 6000 IPL runs, and Watson feels David, over the past many years, has been a top performer in the league.

"His strike rate across his career in the IPL is nearly 140. He's been a great player in the IPL for a long period," Watson on Warner.

Delhi will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 15th in an afternoon game.

Rohit's matches included both the teams he has played for in the IPL, i.e., Deccan Charges from 2008-11 and Mumbai Indians afterwards. RCB's Virat, on the other hand, has scored 925 runs in 26 matches against Delhi at an average of 51.38 and a strike rate of 134.05 with the highest score of 99.

IPL 2023: Suryakumar misses catch, ball hits his eye in MI vs DC - WATCH

Delhi Capitals vice-captain Axar Patel made it clear that skipper David Warner's strike rate is a concern among the camp as well and that he has not been the sheet anchor role.

“He has not been given the sheet anchor role. Ricky (Ponting, Head Coach), Dada (Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket), Pravin (Amre) sir, Watto (Shane Watson), everyone is having constant talks with Warner about his strike rate,” Axar told reporters after DC's fourth consecutive loss this season.

The deputy, however, feels for his skipper and said that, "He is trying really hard but he is just not able to hit it properly (not verbatim)."

Notably, David Warner is currently the second highest run scorer in IPL 2023 with 209 runs in four games at an average of 52.25 but at lowly strike rate of just 114.84. Warner has also scored three fifties in four games but all in a losing cause.

In Delhi's latest loss to Mumbai, nobody from the top-order could hang around as Warner crawled to his fifty. It was Axar Patel in the end to hit a quickfire 54 off 25 to take Delhi to a respectful total of 172.

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) great Chris Gayle has fired a warning at Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner despite his 51-run knock against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Warner was accused of slow batting by Gayle while also highlighting that he is putting pressure on him and the other batters due to his approach. Delhi failed to register their first win of the IPL 2023&nbsp; after they lost on the last ball of the contest against Mumbai on Tuesday, April 11.

"In the first six overs, he showed a bit of intent and tried to be positive there. The wicket was very good to bat on in the powerplay. But he is putting a lot of pressure on himself and the other players as well. Players feel they have to come while he is not getting to ball away, they pretty much have to go from ball one and that is causing Delhi a lot of problems in the middle," Gayle told the digital broadcasters.

According to Gayle, Warner needs to go all guns blazing while attacking from the start. Warner scored a fifty on Tuesday but was not enough for his side as they lost on the final ball of the match.

"So that’s something he needs to work on. He is experienced enough to know what to do. He spoke about it in the previous game," he added.

While Warner has been far from his best, vice-captain for the season, Axar Patel came in defense of Warner and highlighted how he is working on his approach. It is understood that Warner’s depleting strike rate has been a major issue for the franchise while he fails to make an impact at the top.

"Even when he is trying, it's not coming off. Everyone spoke to him - Ricky, (Shane) Watson, Dada. The conversation about his strike rate also came up. They looked at his videos and he's working on it," Axar said.

After the latest defeat, DC remain the only team yet to win in the current season of the IPL from their four matches. They will next take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with the intention of winning their first match of the season.

Talking about the final delivery, Nortje bowled it at the stumps as David moved forward, connected and sprinted for two as the ball went to deep mid-off. Explaining his comments, Sehwag said that a quickfire 30 from Warner would have been better instead of 55-60. He added that a fast innings from Warner could have given other players a chance to chase the target.

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a huge role in his team win against struggling Delhi Capitals on April 8 as he hit five fours in the first over of the match itself.

Jaiswal started with pulling the first ball from Khaleel Ahmed for four before a misfield on a cut shot gave him the second boundary on the second ball. The southpaw completed the hat-trick with an exquisite drive on the off-side off the third ball. The fourth ball of the over was dot but Jaiswal hit two more fours on the last two balls to take 20 off the first over.

The over set the tone for RR as they scored 199/4 in their 20 overs, which proved too much for DC to chase down. Royals spinner, Ravi Ashwin, in a video shared by the IPL's twitter handle, interviewed Jaiswal about his innings after the match.

Ashwin further asked, 'I see a lot of confidence in your batting, does it have something to do with your year with the red-ball?' Jaiswal responded positively to that, saying, "yes, I think 100 percent because I played a lot of red-ball cricket the whole year and I was able to control my emotions a lot."

He was wearing a white t-shirt and black shades as he was greeted by the fans at the stadium. He arrived in an SUV on the premises of the stadium after which he was seen hugging former IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla and other delegates in the VIP lounge.

On the flip side, fans too showed their love for their local boy as they unveiled a special banner that read, “RP17, We Miss You.” The fans were seen cheering for Rishabh as his side took on defending champions Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, in what is Delhi’s first home match of the IPL season.

As a result, DC fell short of the target by 50 runs. Speaking to the media after the match, Ponting didn’t mince his words and slammed his side’s poor outing across all departments in their IPL 2023 opener. Ponting said that given so much dew in the evening, DC should have made the most of this chance, but because they had leaked so many runs in the beginning, they were always playing the chasing game and faltered eventually. “We conceded 16 sixes in our bowling innings, and that goes to show, we were off with our execution. When you give away that many, it’s hard to drag yourself back into the game. I didn’t think it was a 190-plus wicket. There was a lot of dew there, if anything, the wicket was probably better for us batting second, so there are a few reasons why we lost the game,” Punter added. Ponting heaps praise on Mark Wood Mark Wood was impressive in his first game as a Lucknow player, picking up his maiden IPL five-for (5/14). Looking impressed with how he bowled, Ponting said he expected nothing less from Wood, and with the way he traumatised DC batters with the sheer pace early on, he deserves all the credit. “He was outstanding. He bowled the way we thought he would bowl. We knew he’d bowl fast and attack the stumps, and he used his bouncer really well. He is a world-class fast bowler. Playing their first-ever match at their home ground in Lucknow, the home side restricted DC to a mere 143/9 in their 20 overs to get off the mark. Putting Lucknow Super Giants to bat after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals got the wicket of skipper KL Rahul for 8 as he was dismissed by left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya. LSG lost their first wicket at the score of 19 in the fourth over. Kyle Mayers and Deepak Hooda then struck a partnership for Lucknow and the duo took their team's total beyond the 50-run mark in 7.1 overs.

Krishnappa Gowtham walked out to bat as an 'Impact Player' for Lucknow Super Giants substituting Badoni and went on to hit six in the last ball of the innings to take the team's total to 193/6 in 20 overs.

Delhi will take on defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday, April 4 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in their first home match of the season. On the flip side, LSG will travel too far South to take on Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday.

<h3>Delhi’s special tribute to Pant</h3>

Injured in December, the severity of Pant‘s injuries have seen him miss out on both international and IPL cricket in 2023, but he still remains a fan favourite for the franchise.

“Always in our dugout. Always in our team,” read a message on Delhi Capitals’ Twitter handle as they unveiled a kit with No.17 at the back.

Pant recently shared pictures of his recovery and is doing well to return the field for India. While the World Test Championship (WTC) final comes too early for him, the ODI World Cup later in the year in India could see him feature in the team. Meanwhile, David Warner has taken charge of the franchise and has been given the responsibility to help the team win their first IPL title.

Bengal keeper-batter Abhishek Porel is set to replace injured Rishabh Pant at Delhi Capitals (DC). The India international is currently recovering from the injuries he suffered in a horrific road accident late last year that ruled him out for most of 2023.

An IPL source close to the information revealed that Delhi Capitals have zeroed in on the young 21-year-old Abhishek as Pant’s replacement; and that, under the supreme guidance of the coach Ricky Ponting and Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly, Abhishek can learn and grow in a better space.

"Delhi Capitals are likely to put forth Abhishek Porel's name as Rishabh's replacement for the current season. He is only 21, and under the guidance of Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly, could be groomed as a second option even after Rishabh comes back," an IPL source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

While Delhi is adding up local wicket-keeping options from their end, the in-form Mumbai&nbsp;batter, Sarfaraz Khan, is likely to take up the keeper’s role for the upcoming IPL 2023. England’s Phil Salt could also be one of the options behind the wickets in some matches.

"As of now, it looks like Sarfaraz will start against Lucknow Super Giants and if the experiment works, then he will continue," the source added.

Earlier, during their first camp in Kolkata, DC had called Porel, Karnataka’s Luvnith Sisodia and Saurashtra’s Sheldon Jackson for the trials. While Jackson is someone who has played in the IPL before, at 36, he wasn’t the best option to go ahead with. Whereas Luvnith and Abhishek &nbsp;impressed the DC management, Ganguly and Ponting appeared to go ahead with Porel.

Porel, in his short career so far, has scored six half-centuries in 16 first-class games, in addition to having 66 dismissals with the gloves to his name.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner and the pre-season anticipation around the players and the teams is at its peak. IPL is known to have made or break careers of many international and India players with Delhi Capitals' Prithvi Shaw being one of them.

The right-hand batsman has played some good knocks over the years but lack of consistency has marred his chances to cement his place in the Indian national team. Among the scrutiny, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, however, has backed the 23-year-old batter to come through this season.

"I think we are going to see the real Prithvi Shaw this season," the former Aussie skipper has said. Ponting made the assertion based on Shaw's pre-season practice and attitude.

"He’s in a better physical shape than I’ve ever seen him before. I spoke to him the other day about his attitude, the way he’s working, and how things are going. I honestly feel that this is going to be his biggest season in the IPL. He just has that different look in his eye this year. You can see, he’s hungrier than ever," said Punter.

The former Aussie batsman was confident of Shaw making it big this season and said that he feels that the upcoming season is going to be defining&nbsp;for the Mumbai batsman.

"It just seems to me that this season, something has really clicked with Prithvi. I actually said to him at the end of the training two days ago, ‘This game, if you don’t pay full attention to it, it’ll take away from you. But if you put in the hard yards, it will give back to you all the time.’ That’s why I feel that this could be a really big year for him," he added.

Shaw, who made his debut with Delhi in 2018, has been associated with the franchise ever since. In 63 IPL games so far, Shaw has scored 1588 runs at a strike rate of 147.45, managing 12 50+ scores and a highest of 99.

WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians thrash UP Warriorz to set up showdown clash with Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has opened up on the proposed new rule of the ‘Impact Player’ as his side gets ready for the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Delhi who are coached by the former Australia skipper will be one of the favourites to clinch the title. Ponting, in the final stage of the preparations for the season, voiced his opinion about the new rule and thinks it will negate the role of an all-rounder.

<h3>Ponting opens on Impact player rule</h3>

"It [usage of Impact Player] depends if you bat or bowl first," Ponting said at an event in New Delhi.

"So at the toss, we will be putting in a bowling-first team and a batting-first team. And obviously if you bat first, you're probably going to sub in a batter. Or if you bat first and lose an early wicket, you might want to bring in a batter straight on top of that. So there are a number of different ways to use it.

While there are mixed opinions about the rule, Ponting believes that unless a side has a world-class player they won’t be excessively using the impact player. He further adds, there will not be many teams who will use a batter at number seven and perhaps could help in the bowling department.

"It actually almost negates the role of allrounders in the game now. So unless they're absolutely world-class and they're getting picked either as a batsman or as a bowler, not sort of a bits and pieces guy, then I don't think you'll see many, many teams this year actually use the guy that might bat at seven and maybe bowling over or two. Because you don't need those guys anymore."

Delhi will kick start its IPL 2023 campaign on Saturday, April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow and will try to clinch their first-ever title. Delhi will be without regular skipper and influential man Rishabh Pant who was injured during a tragic accident in December. Veteran star David Warner will now be in charge of the side as they try to go all the way.
