<p>Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Sourav Ganguly, has revealed when the National Cricket Academy will give the fitness clearance certificate to Rishabh Pant ahead of IPL 2024. As per Ganguly, the NCA in Bengaluru will clear Pant to participate in the IPL on March 5.</p>

<p>Pant, who was appointed DC’s captain after the franchise didn’t retain their previous skipper, Shreyas Iyer, met with a road accident on New Year's Eve in 2022, suffering several serious injuries. Although the locals saved him and succeeded in pulling him out of the burning car, Pant had to undergo several surgeries on his knees and other joints to stand tall.</p>

<p>With the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League approaching (starting on March 22 in Chennai), Ganguly responded to queries related to Pant in an exclusive chat with the Times of India (TOI).<br />

When asked if Delhi is looking at alternative options in case Pant fails to get a fitness clearance from the NCA, Ganguly said, “He has done everything to get fit, and that’s the reason NCA will clear him.”&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Let Rishabh get cleared on March 5, only then we’ll talk about captaincy backups. We are taking a cautious approach with him because he has a very long career ahead of him.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We don’t want to push him in excitement. We will see how Rishabh reacts. He will be joining the camp once NCA gives him the clearance. We will see match by match. We can’t predict,” the former India captain added.</p>

<h2>Will Pant keep wickets? Ganguly answers</h2>

<p>While Pant is almost sure to return to the playing XI for the upcoming season of the IPL, Ganguly revealed he might not take up the wicketkeeping duties.</p>

<p>"As for wicketkeeping options, there’s Kumar Kushagra. Ricky Bhui has had a very good season. There is Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs," Ganguly said.</p>

<p>"Rishabh coming back fit is a huge addition for us. We hope he plays the full season because he is a very special player. We have worked on some domestic players who have done well in all formats, but Rishabh is very important,” BCCI’s former president noted.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board has so far announced fixtures only until April 7 and will list out the remaining ones after the Indian government announces the date of the general elections.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Lanning clears intentions</strong></h2>

<p>"Even last year our focus was to create a good system, good routines and follow it. And it's no different this time around. These were the very things that gave us the kind of results it did last year," the 34-year-old said on the eve of the WPL opener.</p>

<p>Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting has said that Rishabh Pant is going to play the upcoming 2024 season. Ponting, however, was not sure if the southpaw would be keeping the wickets or captaining the side. <p>"But I'll guarantee if I asked him now he'll say, 'I'm playing every game, I'm keeping every game and I'm batting at No.4.' That's just what he's like, but we'll keep our fingers crossed.</p>

<p>"He's such a dynamic player. He's obviously our captain. We missed him incredibly last year.</p>

<p>"We'll just keep our fingers crossed and hope that he can be out there and play. Even if it's not all the games, if we can manage him through 10 of the 14 games or whatever that might be then whatever games you can get out of him will be a bonus," added Ponting.</p>

<p>Australia and DC opener David Warner had captained the team last season in Pant's absence and Ponting said the Aussie will again take up the job if Pant is not able to perform the dual role.</p>

<p>The Telegraph reported that the GMR group - the co-owners of the Delhi Capitals, is in talks with Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove, who holds the majority share in the club, over buying shares and selling the club.</p>

<p>"Hampshire County Cricket Club's majority shareholder is in advanced talks to sell his stake to the part-owners of Indian Premier League team Delhi Capitals," The Telegraph report said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also said that if this deal is agreed on, it will make Hampshire the first English County side owned by an overseas franchise. Outside of the usual thought-of benefits, an IPL franchise trying to put a foothold in the English game is the biggest plus of this deal.</p>

The left-handed batter has been out of cricket since suffering a fatal road accident on New Year’s Eve last year. Currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Pant will return to lead DC in IPL 2024.</p>

<p>As per the DC management, Pant is likely to regain full fitness by February-end next year, and even then, his participation in IPL 2024 will be subject to clearance from the NCA doctors. Having undergone knee surgery earlier and dealing with back and ankle-related issues all this while, chances of him being able to keep wickets are still under the dark cloud.</p>

<p>The source close to the information revealed Pant will only keep wickets if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) permits it; otherwise, the 26-year-old will continue playing as a fielder and a batter.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>DC retained and released list:&nbsp;</strong>Delhi Capitals have released the list of players released and retained by them ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction on December 19 in Dubai. The Capitals have let go of a total 11 players from the squad including West Indies batter Rovman Powell and South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw.</p>

<p>Out of the 11 players released, four are foreign and seven domestic players. Segregating the players by skills, three players released are bowlers while eight are batters.&nbsp;</p>

The accident took place near Pant's home town - Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Pant suffered two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and several other injuries. <p>The match everyone has been waiting for is finally upon us – the return leg of Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023. With Delhi regaining top form in the final hour and Chennai needing to cross the last hurdle to finish in the top two, this match promises to deliver. As Delhi is out of the tournament following a dismal start, they will aim to upset CSK’s rhythm in Saturday’s afternoon clash as the playoffs approach.</p>
